Black Bear Diner on Alma School Road in Chandler delivered a classic diner experience done right…read more The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, exactly what you hope for when sitting down for a relaxed breakfast. The service stood out immediately--our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything arrived quickly and exactly as ordered. The food itself was hearty and satisfying. The steak breakfast was cooked well and paired perfectly with the traditional breakfast sides. The Shasta Scramble was flavorful and filling, and the drinks were kept refreshed throughout the meal. Everything came out hot and well prepared, showing the kitchen clearly takes pride in consistency. What made the visit especially enjoyable was the combination of comfort-food portions, efficient service, and a laid-back diner environment. It felt like the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy a solid meal, and leave happy. A great stop for a dependable, satisfying breakfast in Chandler.

Always hoping a local recommendation turns out great. *Service: the service was fair. Our waitress spent most of the time sitting in the booth across from us on her phone and checked in occasionally. A few times we had to ask for things we needed. Nothing rude, just not especially attentive or engaged. Definitely didn't feel like her #1 priority. *Food: I ordered the tuna *melt*. It was alright, but nothing to write home about. The tuna itself was relatively cold (should have been warm on a melt) and lacked flavor, the cheese wasn't melted (it's a "melt", right?), and the bread was good. I dipped and drenched in salt, pepper, ranch and hot sauce to give it some flavor. The fries were good, hot and tasty. Overall, it felt like a mid-level café sandwich made by a basic "cook", not a well curated restaurant sandwich. My lunch buddy ordered a smothered omelette that looked great, and he said it was very good, so that was good. *Ambiance: the atmosphere was decent. Very basic, a bit cold feeling, café-like, casual, and reasonably comfortable. Nothing stood out strongly other than it seemed pretty clean and bright. *Value: my tuna melt and fries, with no drink, was $16. Not great, not terrible. It felt like an $8-$10 sandwich max for what I got, not a standout value. I posted a picture of their specials board so you can get a feel for the value. *Overall: everything here was fair, food, service, and ambiance while value was not great. Nothing bad, nothing memorable. A three-star experience for me. I wouldn't rush back, but wouldn't avoid it if I was in the area and others wanted to go. *Update: I have a strong reputation for detailed, honest, and trustworthy reviews. What we experienced is accurately and honestly captured in this review. There were no misunderstandings, our experience is captured exactly as reviewed. Any responses attempting to paint a different picture are not accurate.

It's kinda a hidden gem in Chandler, although it's been there for as long as I can remember. After breakfast, I like to spend a bit of time checking out the aircraft coming and going. We stopped in on a Wednesday around 1 PM expecting it to be quiet... and instead found the place happily buzzing with families, pilots, airport staff, and pilots. First thing you notice? The people. The servers have clearly been there for years, and it shows. They greet regulars by name, remember orders, and make everyone feel like they belong there. That kind of service is rare these days and it sets the tone right away. The space itself is cozy but surprisingly roomy. There's a classic countertop (which I absolutely love), plenty of seating, and even outdoor tables for those beautiful Arizona days when you want sunshine and a side of airplane watching. Being right at the airport adds a fun little bonus -- you can catch planes taking off while you eat. Now let's talk about the food -- because wow. The menu is classic American comfort with a Mediterranean twist, and everything tastes fresh, made-to-order, and high quality. I ordered the mushroom burger, which was perfectly cooked and loaded with flavor. One of my sons went classic with a hamburger topped with bacon -- simple, juicy, and exactly what a great burger should be. My other son ordered the chicken shawarma sandwich, and that one might have stolen the show. Tender, flavorful chicken wrapped up and -- great touch -- stuffed with fries inside. He absolutely loved it. The portions were generous, the prices were very reasonable, and every bite tasted like it was made with care. It's the kind of place where the food is excellent, the service is even better, and the atmosphere just makes you want to linger a little longer. Great food. Friendly people. Cozy vibe. Airplanes taking off in the background. Honestly? Amazing. If you're near Chandler Airport, this spot is absolutely worth the stop.

Everyone is so kind and engaging, there's plenty of space inside and out, and the kids can run and play freely. But my favorite part is the coffee and food. Being Italian, this was a must. I tried sooo many lattes (I had to!!) and they were all excellent. Everything is made from scratch using amazing, high quality ingredients. The coffee flavors are complex, but not overpowering so you can actually enjoy the espresso. The food is the same- home made and beautiful quality. I love this place so much and wish we had one in California!! Will be back, for sure.

We are coffee snobs, so we have pretty high standards. We returned a second time. The play area is now outside since there's a new taco shop setting up inside. My wife and I both ordered the Cannoli coffee concoction. We weren't impressed at all, especially given that we were told that it was their best seller. I got the hot version, and all it tasted like was warm, lightly sweetened milk. I couldn't taste the coffee, cinnamon, or any other ingredients supposedly in it. It wasn't until I got to the bottom that there was some unmelted chocolate syrup of some sort. My wife got the iced version. She wasn't impressed either, but noticed that the chocolate was solid too. If it wouldn't melt in a hot drink, then obviously it'd be worse in a cold one. The main complaint is really just about the weakness of the coffee. For me, $7 for a 10oz coffee drink that tastes like warm milk is enough for us to not try it again. I also think that they should use a less solid syrup for flavoring so that it mixes well hot or cold. The service is awesome, so no complaints there. The environment is nice and welcoming too, especially since they have the play area for the littles.

When I think breakfast, I want something that sticks with me for a while. The fruit on the side was fresh, and the service was great. We also joined the waitlist online before heading over, which made things really easy. We walked right in and were seated almost immediately. I'd definitely come back, but next time I'd encourage him to try something a little more filling.

Hoosiers on the other hand did. Their biscuit is most definitely fresh and didn't have that chalky taste. The gravy itself wasn't runny. If anything, it was rich with flavor. Oh what I would give to have another bite of it. What's interesting too is that, the biscuit and gravy was only a side. I loved the cheese and spinach with this omelette. The hash browns also had a crisp exterior. Our server was exceptionally nice too! To think we almost switched restaurants because they were so busy and I had to catch a flight.
