Beef & Curry chicken on white rice.

I love this place! SUPER tasty food that's served hot and fresh, and for pretty low prices overall. Today I got #55, their beef and curry chicken over white rice. It also comes with steamed cabbage and topped with cilantro. SO good and flavourful. They also have a little station with hot sauce, hoisin, soy sauce and fresh lime, if you want it too. I always add hot sauce (ps, their hot sauce is in sriracha bottles, but mi no think it's sriracha in there. But it's still a decent and mild hot sauce). With this meal and others I have gotten here, they are always very generous with their portions, and not just the carbs. If you order a meat dish, you will get LOTS of meat. I also ordered a chicken spring roll today, as I usually do, and it came hot and crispy as always. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for something, tasty, cheap and filling! And if you don't mind a super casual, cafeteria-style atmosphere .

The curry chicken on rice is better at the church street location (not sure why). Staff is nice here and it's a great location.

GIANT sized bowl of pho (under $40)

We came here literally right the second they unlocked their doors! And as soon as we saw that they had a giant bowl of pho here, we knew this is what we were going to order. You don't need to pre-order the giant pho (at least, we didn't and they were still able to accommodate us!). This gargantuan pho is like a pho dac biet sans the tripe - it's topped with rare beef, beef balls, brisket, and chicken. They are extremely generous with the meat - there was TONSSSSSSS! It's meat heaven for you meat lovers. Fyi, the lime is kept where the sriracha and hoisin sauces are so be sure to grab some to squeeze on your pho! Taste-wise, it's a pretty average pho... soup is decent, not super flavourful or anything. We had 5 people sharing this bowl and it was definitely more than enough! I would say it's good for 4 very hungry people or 6 meh-hungry people. We also ordered the spring rolls and fresh summer rolls. Spring rolls we got were just out the fryer. The summer rolls were just okay, I would've preferred more veg in mine personally. Service here is great though! The owner came over to check in on us a couple of times and asked us how it tasted. The giant bowl of pho is worth a visit just for the picture tbh in my opinion as it is quite well-priced. It's under $40 for that huge bowl and works out to be around $10 per person anyways! Bring a friendx3 to come try this picture-worthy pho!

This is definitely the place to go for cheap eats in downtown! I came here a few times on the days that I didn't feel like cooking. The portion is really good for its price. My favourite dish here so far is definitely the grilled beef with spring roll vermicelli. The beef is flavourful and not overcooked. The spring roll is super delicious. Ginger gives off the vibe of a fast food place where you place your order at the counter, pay, and be served in a very short amount of time. Super efficient and hits the spot. Would definitely recommend this place if you are downtown!

Small bowl of pho...I think? It was realllllly small

There are several Ginger locations, and this one was convenient for me. Some other locations I went to weren't very clean. This one is a bit better, and is also a bit more spacious. Everything is self-service here. There's a station where you can grab a cup, get some water, and then add a lemon slice. There's another station full of utensils. They have a large menu with different types of food depending on what you feel like getting. Maybe you want some pho, or a rice dish, or perhaps you just want a sandwich. When your order is placed, they'll give you a number and you can just grab a seat. They also take do Ritual. Prices are a little under $10, so not that cheap, but compared to other restaurants in the area it's definitely more affordable. I find the portions aren't too big compared to other vietnamese places I've tried. The customer next to us had ordered a regular bowl of pho for $6.50 and it was just the tiniest bowl of pho I've seen so far. Their large isn't that much bigger either. I ordered a grilled chicken rice dish. It came with cabbage, as advertised on the menu. Kind of wished I had the option of getting bok choy instead, but I'd have to pick a different dish. Food tasted alright. Rice was a bit hard but I'm not sure if that's just how vietnamese rice is done. It's an alright place if you're looking for vietnamese cuisine under $10 when you're in the area. Though for an extra 5-10 mins of walking you could head to chinatown and access more vietnamese restaurants. There's an advertisement up front for a 16-inch bowl of pho, which they call the "world's largest" bowl. Something unique at least.

Grilled pork chops on rice

We weren't planning to come by here on a Friday night, but since the place we initially wanted to go had a line out the door, we stopped by here for a warm meal. We both ordered the grilled pork chop on rice which came with stir fried cabbage. The dishes came out quickly after we ordered. The first thing I noticed was that the portions were huge, from the pork chops to the cabbage and rice. The grilled pork chops were juicy, almost melt-in-the-mouth juicy. As someone who doesn't particularly enjoy stir fried veggies, I also found that the cabbage tasted great and was a good complement to the meat. Felt guilty after eating this dish though as it was quite greasy, but it was so comforting to have on a cold winter day. Try this place out if you're nearby and craving for some good comfort food!

Rare beef pho

A good choice for quick, cheap eats. I ordered the rare beef pho which was good but nothing to write home about. The broth wasn't overly salty and I had a good portion of noodles. A-OK in my books.

Ginger covered my required "3 Cs" for an informal lunch/dinner- Cheap, Cheerful and Cuick (or is it spelled Quick?). Upon entering Ginger, I sauntered up to the counter to order a Grilled Chicken Vietnamese Sub ($5.25) and one Crab Meat Avacado Roll ($2.25). I was pleased to see a sign that read "Cash Orders- 10% off"- perfect! After picking up a couple of napkins and pouring myself a free water (with optional lemon slice), I found myself a table. My meal was brought to me table in a jiffy, and it was consumed almost as fast. Pretty tasty. If you are looking to satisfy your "3 Cs", this is the place to be.

Food was excellent and service was accommodating. I had beef rib pho and complimentary warm tea. The sauce to go with the beef rib was quite good. I got the rest of the pho to go, as it was a huge serving. It was a bit of a challenge trying to put the contents of the huge bowl into the takeout containers and I imagine other people have this same issue. Will definitely be back. They specialize in meat platters where you can create DIY fresh rolls. The platters come with lettuce, mints, vermicelli, rice paper and house special sauce. They also have pho, rice, and vermicelli dishes as well. Washrooms are located downstairs which are not accessible. They only accept cash (with a 10% cash discount) or debit. I previously have had Anh Dao for take out before - their pork sausages (nem nuong) are delicious and perfect when you wrap them with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Even when I got take out, the restaurant gives you plenty of fresh ingredients to create your own fresh rolls. I recently went to Anh Dao for lunch to dine in at the restaurant on a Friday around 12:30pm. The place was pretty quiet as it seemed like I was their first customer that day. During my time there, there was another party of 2 that also came in to eat lunch. I opted for the house special soup pho ($19.95). Service was friendly and my food came at a reasonable time after I ordered. The house special pho included slice rare beef, beef brisket, beef balls, and tripe. The soup was slightly sweet with a nuttier flavour. The noodles were unfortunately not the fresh kind but there were ample beef ingredients in the bowl of pho for the price you are paying. I love how in addition to siracha and hoisin sauce, there is also ground up chili sauce as well as a pickled sliced garlic and jalapeno pepper mixture at the table. Moreover, you get bean spouts, a red chili pepper, fresh herbs, and lime that you can add to your pho broth. Overall, a tasty bowl of pho where the quality of the beef was good. Anh Dao is a tasty option for Vietnamese food in the College and Spadina area. Definitely do try their meat platters as they are quite delicious!

I tried to finish the broth because it was so good. I would have given that first bowl 4 stars! Today was terrible! It just felt like a super water-downed broth that I didn't want to drink. Everything was just boiled and dumped in a water-downed soup base. The least they can do is use broth and dump it in the seafood tomato based soup. This was a 9pm dinner. They had their own family visiting to close up shop at 11. I tried asking them what happened to the broth today but they didn't speak English or just decided not to. It was disappointing for a bowl of $21 + tax noodle that was just pretty bland tonight even though it looked the part.... Sigh 2 stars today but couldn't average it out to 3 because now I remembered the spring rolls from the first visit were soggy Yes they are friendly but don't know if it's a place you should come before 7pm to catch the good broth?

The dry noodle dishes under the green column use egg noodles & those under the brown use rice noodles but the toppings & sauce are the same. The most pricey rice noodles are Japanese but otherwise the difference is width. Got the thin egg noodle version in large. It's recommended to add pickled garlic & red vinegar. The soup was pretty tasty with a natural sweetness, 2 springy half fishballs & a large, very fresh shrimp. The sauce was basically oyster sauce but pickled garlic, red vinegar, hoi sin & chili sauce were available to add complexity. The noodles weren't wet but were not dry either. Large was a very big bowl it came with minced pork, thin sliced pork beansprouts & greens. The pickled garlic was good. Also got a shrimp fritter on the side for $2.50. It was big with one tiny shrimp. The juxtaposition was comical but it was cheap. It was not warm but the fritter was crispy & tasty. Unfortunately the shrimp itself was dry & brittle.
