I hate giving a poor rating to a local business but, after getting our last 3 orders wrong - one of which was in person at the restaurant - I can't recommend them, especially to someone with food allergies. I have severe food allergies, which I disclosed on our recent order 3 different times; once in the special instructions for my particular dish, once in the allergens section on the order form, and once in the comments section for the order. My husband arrived home with our to-go order and my food was made wrong. Again. Slathered in creamy, eggy sauces (egg and dairy being two of my severe allergies, along with shellfish). When I called the restaurant back to request a refund, they said they couldn't do anything other than give me cash if we drove back in there. That was not going to happen. It's unfortunate that this place - which has great food when they can get it right - has such a glaring gap in their service. Food allergies are nothing to mess with. Three times now we have relocated our vacations to St. Augustine just to eat the sushi at Ginger Bistro. Few places in this country can offer an Omakase Experience as revered as Chef Tuna's at Ginger Bistro. If only Miami could have a sushi place like this.... Our multi course meal was a journey through the senses. Starting off with "melt in your mouth" Blue Fin Toro sashimi, real Wagyu beef, fresh Caviar, Salmon Toro, cooked blue fin tuna and, eventually, reaching its crescendo with a succulent Miso marinated Chilean sea bass cooked to perfection. Everything immediately melts in your mouth and disintegrates with just the push of your tongue on your palate, Each taste is bursting with flavors and leaves an unforgettable linger in your mouth. Holding back our reaction to the food is impossible. I felt like getting down on my knee's to praise the chef in gratitude. Never have I tried Aged Blue fin tuna so fresh with Salmon caviar, cilantro, 24 kt gold flakes on a buttery toast. The bite sized Toro rolls are just the right size to fit in your mouth, and it melts away there in seconds. The rolls fit in your mouth, as they should. I use to go here for pho and when we were seated there was none on the menu! Oh snap...new management! They had a dish that was similar. Ramen. All I could think was those Ramen noodles in the little plastic tubs,(add hot water and gag)! Fortunately I was wrong! The Ramen was fabulous! Bone broth with bamboo shoots, baby Bok Chou half a hard boiled egg, pork belly and delicious noodles cooked perfectly. My wife's shrimp tempura was too big to eat and the vegetables outstanding. My boyfriend and I are visiting St. Augustine from Miami, and he was very hesitant about eating sushi in St. Augustine instead of the typical Southern, Cajun, or Seafood restaurants. I was REALLY craving it so I convinced him and we ended up having a really great meal. We both ordered sushi, so I can't speak on how good the ramen or hibachi is here (though, ramen seems to be popular here and looks and smells very good from the other tables). We started with the gyoza, which was extremely flavorful and tasted homemade versus the froZen gyoza that a lot of other sushi restaurants tend to serve. He ordered the sushi deluxe boat, which came with a California roll and several pieces of nigiri. I ordered a dragon roll and spider roll. Everything was extremely fresh and seemed like a lot of care was put into it. The only two negative things I have to say about this place are that the service was a little slow- not the fault of our waitress who was hospitable and attentive, but rather the fact that the restaurant is somewhat short-staffed (or at least was tonight). Also, the miso soup tasted a little funny- almost citrusy. It could've maybe been ponzu added to it, but it was certainly not what I'm used to. I've been on a Japanese food kick lately and man, am I glad this place exists. Best ramen I've had in a long time, delicious (and affordable!) lunchtime bento box specials, and a ton of variety. If you want sushi or fried rice, they've got you, and if you're more adventurous they've got oyster tempura, eel rolls, and takoyaki for you, too. I've tried their teriyaki chicken, chicken katsu, shrimp fried rice and miso soup. The teriyaki chicken and katsu were not what I prefer tastewise, so I wouldn't order either again. However, I have 2 friends who like their chicken katsu very much. Personally, I return for their shrimp fried rice and miso soup- I love it! Generous portions of large shrimp in every order. Tasty, flavorful and tender rice. I get it...this is more of a Japanese restaurant that specializes in sushi. I haven't tried their sushi yet, because I always get take out.
