Mariah Huges is a great PA. However, the rest of the staff has been a nightmare. Scheduling, customer service from their front office, communication and followup are severely lacking. Both my husband and myself have had sub-par experiences with this staff costing us time off work, stress and money.
My husband was told by one of Dr. Gilliam's employees that he could have a time sensitive medical testing done at the Benicia Quest clinic and she would fax the Dr's order to Quest. He took time off of work to do the test, attempted to drop off the specimen at Benicia Quest, only to embarrassingly find out that they did not do that type of testing at that location. He finds out that the closest location is in Sacramento. He went directly back to Dr. Gilliam's office upset and asked them to re fax the order to the Sacramento location. He schedules the testing for another day in Sacramento. To avoid another wasted trip, he calls Sacramento Quest to confirm they received the faxed order, which they did not. A lot of back and forth calls between my husband and the Dr's office. Finally, we get results when we asked Quest to call the Dr's office directly to get the test order. The headache doesn't end there; try getting the results of that test! First, my husband calls the Dr's office. Receptionist says she couldn't find it and they'd call him back. 48 hours later, no call. My husband went to their office in person and the results weren't in his file. Eventually, they locate it and claim the results were found on the Dr's desk.
My husband's last visit, one of his concerns was a blister on his finger. The Dr. advised him to duct tape it. My husband was not satisfied nor amused by that suggestion. He tried it anyways but it didn't resolve the issue and he still has the issue several months later.
The final straw was the only time I personally was seen by Dr. Gilliam. I was prescribed pain killers, they tried laser therapy (which didn't do anything) and told to call back in a week if the RX wasn't helping the issue and sent on my way. Since the Rx wasn't helping, the pain was getting worse, I called Friday and was told to call back Monday because he was out. I called again this morning (Monday) to request he order imaging (as he verbally stated in the prior week's appointment would be the next step) only to find out that he just had surgery and wouldn't be back in until Friday! The receptionist said I'd need to make another appointment with their PA who would need to assess me herself in order to proceed to the next step. Wow - WTH. Along with my excessive, disabling pain, I am now frustrated. I told her I didn't believe I needed to pay another copay since this should've been taken care of at Tuesday's appointment. At this point, she transferred me to their "Office Manager" named Shelly.
Shelly said I would need to make another appointment and pay another copay. I attempted to explain that Dr. Gilliam, knowing that he would be out for a week for his surgery, should've had an imaging request in my file ready to go. She began talking over me, instead of listening, then hung up on me. Real professional, Shelly, "Office Manager". What a joke. At this point, I am infuriated.
I called back and asked for Shelly, who happened to answer the phone and antagonistically said, "You got disconnected." Really... mid-conversation? Nice try. I expressed my strong dissatisfaction with their services and her childish response, "I don't like the way you are talking about us and I'm going to tell Dr. Gilliam." Let me help you out. No need to; he can just read this review along with the rest of the world. read more
