Their foie gras

Decent food and service, a little crowded, but this is the first restaurant we've been to since we've been in Barcelona that had a tip screen on their card payment machine. Don't let the cancer of US tipping culture spread to the EU.

Muscles and Tartare

This place was my FAVORITE food spot throughout my 9 day Spain excursion!!! Michel is an awesome awesome awesome host and owner. Checks in with you often and provides great conversation. The ambiance is awesome. The art is great (you can purchase it if you want, and they have special lighting for it.) Food was insanely good. We got the tartare, steak frites, duck, olives, and a few drinks (highly recommend the black mojito). It's super foreigner friendly and is a place I'll always go to whenever I'm in Barcelona. Been in business for over 13 years and has a lot of regulars and return customers (and after you go, you can see why!) 10/10 would recommend again!!!!!

A friend who lives in Barcelona brought me to Gilda to try & it was so delicious! The environment is lounge like aesthetic; the bar area was very live as well. We were seated right away & staff were friendly/attentive! We tried different tapas & my favorite was absolutely the patatas bravas it was so delicious we ordered another round. We enjoyed all the food, the desserts as well. I would definitely recommend this spot for their patatas bravas!!

Steak tartare with avocado mash. Unlike some preparations, this one didn't hide the taste of the excellent beef.

We were tired from a long day of sightseeing, and really wanted a resto that would take a last minute on-line reservation. Gilda fit the bill, and so we gave it a try. SO, so glad that we did! It's a small-ish place; maybe 24 seats, plus room for another 6 at the bar in another room. We were seated quickly, and given menus in English. We perused the bill of fare, and the waitress asked for our drink orders. There's a small but solid wine list of Spanish reds, whites, roses and cavas. We went with a delicious cava; at $21 euro, it was a steal. Prior to ordering, the proprietor stopped by our table to chat. When (not if, but when) you go to Gilda, make sure to ask for Michel; he's the most wonderful host you could imaging. He made recommendations that were spot-on; not recommending only the most expensive items, but the ones that the kitchen did particularly well. We decided on steak tartare, served on a bed of avocado mash (not quite quacamole), the crispy Argentinian red shrimp with curry ice cream (a MUST have; it was spectacular), the fried cauliflower with tahini sauce (not the thickly breaded kind you find in sports bars; these were tender florets fried just to the edge of caramelization, the papas Bravas (served with crepe fraiche and the most wonderful sun dried tomato compote), and, finally, a dinner portion of the Thai mussels with curry, lemon grass and cilantro, served with perfectly crispy French fries. When the mussels were gone, Michel wordlessly passed us spoons to drink the sauce like soup; we added a frite to each spoonful, and it was, oh, so good! Desserts were Creme Catalan flamed with grand marnier and the "cannabis" ice cream (the resto is directly across the street from the historical hemp museum and sources their CBD oil from the museum) served over a warm chocolate fondant cake. Michel took a liking to us and gave us a complimentary taste of his "zabaglione ice cream" that was quire extraordinary. He then sat with us and we swapped stories over a second bottle of that amazing cava. When in Barcelona, Gilda should be your first (and, also, possibly your second) choice for dinner! Highest recommendation given.

Shrimp with curry ice cream. Amazing

Last night in Barcelona. Went across street and wandered into Gilda. Best meal in Spain after 11 days! Shrimp with curry ice cream. Who does that!?!? It was spectacular! Wine was perfect. Served us couple of entrees as tapas. Everything was delicious. Also a very entertaining conversation with the owner. What a special place. Thank you!!

Went here randomly but looking in it looked like it was going to be a great little spot. We ended up here a second time on our Trip because we loved it so much. Great food, service and ambiance. I highly recommend going here when In Barcelona. You will not be sorry! We got so many things and everything was incredible. The Goat cheese salad I will try and replicate for sure.

We were sooooo excited to try this spot after reading all the wonderful reviews. I think we just came on an off day because they were short staffed and I understand the waiter was doing his best, but we came all this way and they were out of three of the main dishes. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but even being short staffed, the waiter wasn't apologetic about everything taking as long as it did. I ordered a drink and he wanted me it would take long to get and I said it was fine, but he was basically trying to discourage me from ordering an old fashioned. Really disappointed. We should have been told them we sat down that they were out of so many dishes as opposed to trying to order them and get denied three times.

Steak frites, medium plus. Duck medium (across from me)

Mother of GOD. This food should be illegal it's so good. Steak frites is my favorite meal. I've had it breakfast, lunch, and dinner around the world...and the only place that could ever compare is Le Relais de l'Entrecôte in Paris. I cannot overstate how AMAZING the food is here. And the wine will not disappoint. 10/10 stars. Would fly across two oceans for this. I had the steak frites and my boyfriend had the duck. Both left us on cloud 9!

The food is fresh and amazing! Tiago is a handsome young man with amazing suggestions.

The food is fresh and amazing! Tiago is a handsome young man with amazing suggestions. I had the Manhattan which the orange was so fresh I could smell it before it was in front of me! We had the shrimp And ice cream which sounds weird but it truly was amazing. The cauliflower was another great suggestion. I am going to attempt this at home!! Everything is so fresh and absolutely delicious. The price is perfectly paired. We may be back tomorrow!!

Barcelona has a TON of tapas bars, and if you are anywhere in or around the old city, you will be inundated with them. The area that Gilda is in is known for having great tapas, and the restaurants here run the gauntlet from super modern to totally old school. Gilda is on the super modern side of the spectrum, both in atmosphere and food. Most of their dishes are Belgian and not Spanish, despite the tapas name. Even their classic Spanish dishes are not very classic; many of them have been tweaked quite a bit. You might or might not like this. Their prices are also pretty high, although some of their dishes are a good value. While the meal was somewhat enjoyable, we were mostly disappointed. We had: Fois Gras: Neither of us have ever had this dish before, and we don't ever plan to again. However, we had to try it once in our lifetimes, and the price was right for a small portion. This dish was very well done (although we didn't have other fois gras experiences to compare it to), and was the highlight of our experience here. Spinach Croquettes: Pretty good. Patatas Bravas: Woah, waaay too much going on here. Too many flavors hastily thrown together made for an un-enjoyable dish. We tried patatas bravas at every tapas place we went, and this was by far the worst. Don't get it. Catalan (Tomato) Bread: Way too many tomatoes, they overpowered the dish. Not enough of the other flavors that make this bread so great. Another pass. Wine: Very expensive and not a very good list. We were disappointed. Service: Very slow. Even for Spanish standards. There are better choices around.

Duck and lamb yum

The infusion of foods they make here are unlike anything I've tasted somewhere else. I had the lamb and mashed which was done with an Indian flair, it was very tasty. My husband had the duck and he ate every bite. The art inside is super funky and the service is also very good. I will definitely go back

We were happy to enter the cozy La Alcoba Azul and seated by a smiling host immediately & presented with menus. The interior looks almost like a wine cellar with brick vaulted ceilings. The offerings are best described as fusion tapas but there are a few traditional bites as well. Our waiter presented us with an amuse bouché of pumpkin hummus topped with roasted pepitas on an herbed toasted baguette crisp. DELICIOUS! We confidently ordered the tomato tartare with avocado cream, basil, olive powder and rosemary olive oil caviar as well as a half order of cured Iberican meats featuring chorizo, loin, sausage and ham, an order of the hummus with black olives, parsley, pine nuts and pita triangles. All were terrific! We especially enjoyed the meats and tomato tartare. I enjoyed a red sangria that was satisfying and happened to be topped with cinnamon...a first and welcome addition for me. Our server, Amaya, was funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly attentive. He took great care of us, and every single recommendation he made was delicious. The highlights for us were the Bacalao -- so tender and full of flavor -- and honestly the best octopus I've ever had in my life. We also loved the soft steak with duck liver served on a slice of French baguette, the shrimp skewers, patatas, and the Spanish ham with tomato toasts. Every dish was unforgettable. While all of the food was great, for me the codfish was hands-down the star of the show and probably one of the best dishes that I ate on the trip. The flavor of the sauce combined with the texture of the fish actually blew me away, and I can see why my server highly recommended this to me.
