    Spicy beef noodle, added wonton
    Shaun L.

This spot used to be the best place for wonton noodle soup. My guess is word never spread and the owners changed hands. Overall the wontons are great but the overall soup and noodles were lack luster losing its spot at the top of the podium. Part of it is probably due to the larger menu. They sell Chinese bbq and other dishes, really expanding it to an eatery which probably distracted them from slinging the best wonton noodle soup the city had to offer.

It's in the name. The wontons are IT. Very traditional pork and shrimp recipe but giant and delicious. Reminds me of what I grew up on. I'd come here everyday if I could. It was PERFECT on this cold snowy afternoon. Many other traditional dim sum dishes which were just like any other dim sum. Soup dumplings were also very good. But it's the wontons that you want. Best part is that they sell these wontons frozen for you to take him. I took home 3 trays and they are incredible. Simply goes into broth that's at boiling, few minutes and they are perfect. I love adding them to my ramen even though it's not traditional I'll find any excuse to eat them. Inside is small and limited seating but clean and worth it. They also do take card but you can get a discount for cash payments!

Shrimp Pork Shumai was so good! You should eat it. All of the food was delicious and hot. They made it to order. Restaurant was quiet for lunch and the server sat and ate food at the other table. Would Recommend! 4 stars because: delivery of food came in through the front door and the guy slammed into our chair.

Curry fish ball rice, signature wonton soup

We don't have much wontons specialized places so I was excited to try it. It is a tiny place with four/ five tables. We ordered the curry fish ball rice, signature wonton soup, spicy wonton appetizer (not pictured) and custard buns to share. Dishes came out super fast. All dishes taste homey. My favorite would be the wonton soup - wontons are flavorful and the broth is light. The curry fish ball rice is not too remarkable. The spicy wontons have a unique tomato taste. The custard buns are just okay. All in all, a decent place but not too remarkable. -6.5/10

My partner and I got the HK style dumpling noodle soup (w thin egg noodle) and signature wonton lo mein (w flat egg noodle) - TASTE: 3/5 - was expecting more flavor, both noodle dishes tasted bland to me. The shrimp wontons were great TEXTURE: 4/5 - enjoyed the texture of both the thin and flat egg noodles, plus the tender wontons and crisp green onion PRICE: 4/5 - total was $40 SERVING SIZE: 3/5 - satisfied us for lunch. With a name like Gigantic Wonton, I thought they would be truly massive lol, but they were just slightly larger than usual SERVICE: 4/5 - walked in at 1:15pm on a Friday and one other table was filled. Our food came out 10min after ordering ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - small space of about 20 seats w minimal-style decor and photos of Hong Kong PARKING: 4/5 - parked on a street spot close by on Harvard Ave

I hadn't seen many places selling wonton noodles, so this was definitely a must-try. We stopped by here on a weekend around 2pm so it wasn't too busy - we were immediately seated and given menus and water. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and when we asked about the difference between the signature wontons and the HK style dumplings, they pointed out the photos on the menu and what each one was called. They both looked great, but I ended up getting the signature wontons instead since the HK style dumplings looks like a thicker skin (my partner got the HK style, and they were very similar - with maybe mushrooms added?). The food came out incredibly quickly, and they even didn't mind that my partner had brought in a bubble tea she had purchased somewhere else. Signature wonton lo mein - While this may look like plain wonton noodles with wontons on top, veggies, and a side of broth, it's one of my favorite ways to eat wonton noodles. Mixed in with the noodles is actually a salty and savory sauce (perhaps oyster sauce based?) that seasons the noodles. I mixed in some chili oil and vinegar from the table and it was just perfect. The noodles were fresh tasting and bouncy - just how I like them. The wontons were delicate and full of flavor, and the side of veggies and soup were a nice addition on top of that. The only issue stopping this from getting 5 stars is that $14 for this type of food feels a little steep. I've definitely had this meal for much cheaper in the past, but with inflation this may just be the market price. Still, it feels a little much, but the actual taste of the food was great. I probably won't become a regular here, but I will definitely be back a few times when I'm craving wonton noodles! 4/5!

This is a new Chinese spot specializing in wontons!! They make Hong Kong-style food. The owner is so kind! It's very small with only a few tables and service is typical of that. They specialize in their gigantic wontons (hence the name) along with lots of other dishes like wonton noodle soup. For food, we got soup dumplings, spicy wontons, cumin fried wings, wonton soup, beef tripe, rice rolls, and egg yolk buns! The soup dumplings were good with delectable soup but the wrapper is a bit thick for my taste. I liked the spicy wontons a lot. The wontons were indeed gigantic and so juicy and the chili oil was great. The wings were crispy and also juicier than expected and I liked the spices. Unfortunately, I did not love the wonton soup because it was a bit bland but Hong Kong style tends to be more bland so if that's your style, it'll be right up your alley. The beef tripes were not for me.. I didn't like the texture at all. Rice rolls were very thick and very heavy but I liked the chewiness of it. I loved getting the buns for dessert because they were so delish!! The egg yolk mixture in the middle was sweet and grainy which was cool and the bread was so soft. If I went again, I would definitely get the spicy wontons again and the egg yolk buns for dessert.

This is such a great addition to the Allston area! The restaurant is tiny on the inside but the staff are very quick, friendly, and attentive. I was in the mood for some wonton soup so I ordered the trio dumplings in soup ($15). It came with 6 plump wontons (3 different fillings, 2 of each), some fresh veggies, and a light but comforting broth. The wontons were super impressive. The skins were tender while the filling was plump and flavorful. Each wonton had its own unique flavor profile and I loved how there were still large-ish chunks of shrimp in the shrimp wonton. There are a lot of condiments at the table (chili oil, salt, white pepper, vinegar, soy sauce) so you can dress up the broth to your taste. I also got a salted plum spritz ($6). It was refreshingly fizzy and tasted mostly like lime except for the added saltiness from the salted plum they add on the bottom. I would get it again! My friend tried their Hong Kong milk tea which had a strong tea flavor. It wasn't sweetened which took us by surprise but the staff kindly added sugar to it when we asked.

I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. My friends and I ordered: -signature wonton noodle soup: came with 4 wontons, 2 pieces of bok choy and yellow egg noodles. The wontons were okay, nothing special. They were a bit pasty/gritty. My favorite wontons are from Maxis in Flushing, NY for a baseline. -beef brisket noodle soup: the beef needed to be cooked for MUCH longer. It was so tough, hard to eat. -hong Kong milk tea: very sweet and seemed like it was made from an instant packet.

This is a 3.5 star place, but I have to give whole number ratings...I'm erring on the side of 4 for now. This place is right next to Coreanos in Allston. Its a very small shop that has maybe 5 or 6 tables. The place is brand new so it looks clean. We were seated facing outwards so I didn't get to observe what the place really looks like. There were people behind us so I didn't want to be awkwardly staring backwards and taking pictures. Oh, this place does not have air conditioning! As for their food, the menu is not huge. Come with an appetite for wonton noodle soup! The wontons are a good size, maybe slightly larger than the ones you get in chinatown (thinking of Chinatown Cafe and HK Eatery). There also are good amounts of shrimp inside. The egg noodles are cooked perfectly. 2 pieces of green veggie pieces are also included, as are some scallions. You can choose up to 2 additional "toppings" or add-ons (wontons, dumplings, brisket, etc). The broth was hot and savory -- more on the salty side for both my wife and I. The stuffed chicken wings are mostly boneless, stuffed with some shrimp. I was most excited for this but it wasn't as special as I'd hope. Just get the wonton soup. My wife and I had the 2 bowls of wonton soup with brisket, and an order of wings. With the 5% cash discount (it comes this way - they assume you are paying cash), and 18% tip, it came to $60. Afterwards, we went to pick up my daughter and her friend who ate at Spring Shabu Shabu (down the street). They also paid $60 total for the 2 of them with a plate of meat. Hmmmm....? I'm glad to have tried this place, as its different from most of the korean offerings in the area. Hopefully they can expand their menu to maybe include some chinese BBQ toppings/add-ons in the future. Other considerations: - There is only street parking in a very busy area. Good luck. - Today was near 80 degrees and drinking their hot soup with no AC or fan was not a good idea. I relished every second it took for their front door to close once someone left. - You get the most flimsy (thin) plastic soup spoons ever with your meal. - When we were seated, we got exactly 2 pieces of bathroom paper (hand) towels. When I asked for extra napkins, I actually got 2 pieces of real paper napkins. Weird that I got towels to begin with. - The wonton noodle soups come out quickly. - The waitress there spoke to us in chinese by default. My wife speaks chinese so its okay, but when I spoke in English, they seemed to not understand.

    HK Style Wonton Bowl

Never seen a restaurant specializing in wontons before, so definitely had to give them a try! The restaurant itself is small and accommodating to walk-ins. The service was perfectly fine. The wontons themselves were pretty good and filled with a lot of meat, but unfortunately you only get 4 wontons per bowl. That is such a disproportionate ratio of wontons to noodles. The Golden Black Phoenix buns were actually grey (not black) and filled with salted egg yolk filling. However the bun texture was oddly hard (almost like they half steamed some frozen buns). Not really a fan of them and they were overpriced ($8 for 3 small buns). Overall, this spot is convenient if you have soup cravings, but definitely overpriced for what you get.

Spicy beef noodle soup ($16), add wontons ($3)

It's a small space that used to be the old fish market restaurant. I arrived on a weekday afternoon for lunch and there were a few patrons dining in and a couple waiting for take out. They just opened not too long ago, so it looks like they are just figuring things out still. If you are dining in, you sit and order with wait staff. It's confusing since the place is small and there's an ordering counter. The menu is small, but confusing.. not sure why the items listed as side dishes are mostly just the main entrees copied and pasted into the section. We ordered the spicy beef noodle soups and opted to add wontons (+$3 for two wontons) into one of the bowls. Waitstaff speak mandarin and canto but English was a bit of a language barrier. They don't automatically give you water, which I didn't mind since I was having noodle soup anyways. The beef was very tender, falling apart easily. Great braised flavor. Wontons were the highlight. Well seasoned, not salty. Thin egg noodles were chewy. The broth tho... got very salty as we were eating. I'm not sure if it's the same broth they use for the regular wonton soup but I think the added beef made it much more salty. Might be fine if ordering just the wonton noodle soup. Waitstaff doesn't really check on you. Wave them down if needed. I just walked up to the counter and paid since we were in a rush to leave. Overall food was decent, they just opened so I'm sure they'll figure out a better rhythm. Won't rush back here but might try some of their other options in the future.

I got the signature wonton noodle soup and added extra vegetables. The wontons had shrimp fillings. For some reason there was a slight bitter aftertaste. The noodles were a great chewy and bouncy texture. The wait for food was quick, but the place is very small. My friend and I (party of 2) had to wait a couple of minutes to be seated on a Friday night. Not great for large groups.

This is a 12 out of 10, and I don't just hand those ranking out willy-nilly. I came here through winters first, which is honestly the ideal origin story. The Spicy Hot Udon in Boston winter is the equivalent of someone putting a blanket on your shoulders without being asked. The broth hits deep, the udon has that perfect chew that tells you someone back there actually cares and respect their noodles, and you leave feeling genuinely restored rather than just full. Then summer came and I almost made the mistake of skipping it entirely--because soup in summer? I mean c'mon. But silly me, I should've tried the Spicy Cold Udon sooner than later. Same exceptional broth. Same gorgeous chewy noodles. But served cold in an absolutely refreshing way. I mourned all the summers I could have been eating this. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable, and the service moves at a pace that impresses you without making you feel like you're being processed; the atmosphere is nice and simple too. Anyway: hot or cold, winter or summer, just go, get some, sip some amazing broth, bask in all of it!

I always worry that…read moretraditional flavors will be toned down to appeal to a broader audience, so I walked into Yume Ga Arukara with a little hesitation. Those concerns disappeared almost immediately. Looking around the dining room, I noticed many of the customers were of Asian descent, which gave me confidence that I was in the right place. I grabbed a seat at the counter, and it ended up being the best seat in the house. Watching the cooks prepare each bowl from scratch was fascinating. They hand-cut the udon noodles, cooked every component to order, and assembled each bowl with incredible care. It felt like dinner and a show all in one. On a rainy Boston afternoon, the Spicy Hot Niku Udon with an onsen egg was exactly what I needed. The broth was deeply flavorful, with rich dried fish and beef notes that tasted comforting without being overwhelming. The thinly sliced beef was tender and perfectly cooked, while the freshly made udon noodles were the star of the bowl. They were silky, smooth, and wonderfully chewy. The tempura flakes added a satisfying salty crunch that contrasted nicely with the soft noodles. The star of the dish, onsen egg, stole the show. The white part had an almost custard-like texture and the yolk was rich and creamy, blending effortlessly into the broth to make every bite even more luxurious. My only suggestion would be to offer sliced jalapeños as an optional side garnish. As a Korean who grew up enjoying spicy foods, I found myself wanting just a little more heat. I understand that Japanese cuisine typically isn't as fiery, but having the option to add fresh jalapeños would have taken an already excellent bowl to the next level for my personal taste.

Swung by this place on a weekday for lunch to avoid the rush - most weekends I pass by this place and the line wraps around the street! We were confused on the menu whether our ramen included chili oil or not, and the staff did not help explain anything and just quickly dismissed our questions to get us to order quicker. Once we sat down, the food was done relatively quickly. However I was very surprised on what we had gotten. Now I admit - I am not a vegetarian. However, I have enjoyed many vegetarian meals and this was quite upsetting. We both got the garlic miso ramen. The ramen was not temperature hot at all. The chili oil was not flavorful. The "soy meat" was simply just mushed tofu with awful texture, and it soaked into the soup and created a pretty unpleasant texture (I took a picture which makes me sad and unappetized). I was unable to finish my bowl. The food combined with the service made for a pretty negative time for me. I really wanted to love it - a place with a full vegetarian menu is amazing for all my friends who have that restriction! Maybe if they tried pan frying the tofu create a better textural experience? I will not plan to come back, and will highly recommend you go to any other restaurant in Back Bay.

Will definitely find a reason to come back here soon. ------ FOOD: 1. [MUST TRY] STIR-FRIED CABBAGE W/ PORK BELLY (5/5) Presentation was phenomenal (in a clay pot with its own burner underneath to keep it hot). The portion was much larger than expected, and most importantly, it tasted incredible. Generous amounts of pork in this, and the sauce was authentic and addicting. 2. SCALLION CHICKEN (5/5) Another great choice. This was a huge portion with lots of tender chicken, and the scallion was present without being overpowering. 3. CRISPY BEEF WITH FRIED DOUGH STICKS (5/5) I was expecting Chinese you tiao but these were actually the small, ultra crispy manhua twists! Paired with the beef, this was a large and unique dish that I loved. The crispiness of the mahua made this a textural delight to eat. 4. MANGO SAGO DESSERT (5/5) Big portion, wonderful assortment of toppings including grapefruit, mango, sago, and popping balls over a creamy dessert soup base. 5. PEKING DUCK (4/5) I think I'm a tough critic since I just came back from Beijing and had so much Peking duck there. We ordered the half portion here and it had a generous amount of meat for not being the full portion. There were an assortment of accompaniments, including pineapple (new to me) and sugar (like the Beijing style) which were welcome additions. The wrappers were steamed well and didn't curl up on the edges. Overall this was a solid Peking duck, but the meat wasn't as standout as I was hoping. 6. STEAMED PORK SOUP DUMPLING (4/5) Solid soup dumplings. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely hit the spot. 7. SAUTEED PEA SPROUTS (4/5) Another solid classic. 8. PORK MEATBALL IN CRAB MEAT SAUCE (4/5) This was the most unique thing we ordered. I've never had a shi zi tou meatball with crab meat sauce before. The meatball itself was large (maybe size of a tennis ball), tender, and fatty, as it should be. It was then drowned in a generous lake of traditional crab meat sauce. If you're not a fan of crab meat then this might be a bit too fishy for you, but honestly it all combined surprisingly well and I grew to like this dish more and more with each bite. I wasn't the biggest fan to start, but by the end I wouldn't have minded getting another one! ------ AMBIANCE / ENVIRONMENT: * The interior has the classic Asian style of decor, but you can tell it was recently built / renovated because everything felt new and fresh. * The ambiance also felt more new-school luxurious vs. the typical Asian establishments that are more no-frills with as many tables packed in as possible * You're still somewhat close to the tables around you, but it's not overwhelming during lunch time and we still felt like we had enough space regardless * There's a bar area at the front of the restaurant and then a large, spacious dining room in the back * This is a great place for a date or a meaningful family gathering * Right outside is Boston Common, making this restaurant very well-located for lunch before or after a nice day in the park. While there's lots of parking around the park, a spot itself can be hard to come by, so your best bet might be to use the nearby parking garage instead ------ SERVICE: * Overall the service was great and quick. They did forget our tea, but when we asked for it later they apologized profusely and were quick to bring it out for us * This place fills up quickly so be sure to come early if you don't have a reservation or if you're a big enough group, make a reservation for your desired dining time

I had to beg to sit at the bar since I knew I wanted the duck already. Duck was solid, not gamey. We felt so rushed and uncomfortable eating though. We couldn't order anything else besides the duck. :(

There was a small line of people waiting when we arrived, but the wait was not very long. The dining area is not huge, but the Staff hustles so it seems to turn over quick. Super friendly hostess/server who was non-stop energy and movement. She made it flow while still being personable. I have never had this type of food, so cannot base it on anything except it was delicious. I followed the instructions and added the rice at the end (nice top off). The Miso soup was good along with the Sushi roll. The Hostess gave us a new drink to try and we all enjoyed it. Definitely a great spot !!!

My first impression? Bright, modern, and incredibly welcoming. The space has an inviting energy, but what really stood out was the hostess. Since it was my first visit, she took the time to patiently explain the menu and made me feel completely at ease. Her recommendation of the Tan Tan turned out to be absolutely spot on. Loaded with spicy minced pork, minced garlic, onions, chives, sesame sauce, dried chili pepper, and a perfectly poached egg, this bowl was a beautiful marriage of flavor and texture. The savory minced pork stole the show, while the chewy hand-pulled noodles held onto every bit of that rich, nutty, spicy sauce. Just when I thought the experience was over, I learned the best part was still to come. After finishing the noodles, you're encouraged to ask for a bowl of rice and mix it into the remaining sauce. It transforms the leftovers into an entirely new dish, making sure not a single drop of flavor goes to waste. The entire meal felt like an adventure--one I genuinely didn't want to end. I've always considered myself a ramen guy, but this experience reminded me that it's worth stepping outside your comfort zone every now and then. Japanese cuisine really is the gift that keeps on giving, and I'm here for it!

The decor is bright and cheerful and the room (and restrooms) sparkling clean. The service is quick, gracious and calm. And the food is delicious! I don't care to eat meat, so it was wonderful to have several selections of vegan and pescatarian dishes to choose from. My husband and I enjoyed the soups we chose and want to come back to try the cold noodle dishes.

The restaurant focuses mostly on soba or udon noodle dishes with a good selection between hot and cold options. It's not going to be the best udon or soba you've ever had. HOWEVER, I tried the cold ikura & uni cold soba and LOVED it. It's seasonal, so I tried that one out and was extremely surprised about how much I enjoyed the bowl. Not too much soup and the uni didn't completely obliterate when I stirred it up. They do use American wasabi though, and I found it superfluous to the dish and wished it was served on the side. But regardless, despite not having some extremely high quality noodles, the flavor and experience of the bowl itself was super pleasant. I ended up coming back the very next day because I wanted to try their clam soba. The clam soba only comes hot, which is a bit unfortunately because I actually think a cold clam soba with some lemon or yuzu would be phenomenol. I've been seeing recipes for it online so I've been wanting to try it, but their clam soba is a lot more standard and hot. They had a very good amount of clams in it, but I generally like their cold soba better. Still good, but didn't give me that feeling of needing to come back the very next day like I did with the ikura-uni combo. Overall, I'd still come back when I'm in downtown!

While there are a few tables nestled into the cozy space, most customers opt for takeout. The quality of the plastic goods for takeout pales in comparison to the quality of the food though, so dining in vs. takeout is a bit of catch 22. I was craving the their spicy classic hand-pulled noodles today, and they were as good as I remembered. Chewy and fragrant, with enough potent garlic to ensure my coworkers would leave me alone for the afternoon. Ha! One thing that has changed is their prices. Their website is woefully out of date, as the noodles (no additions) are now $9.40 vs. the $6.87 listed on the website menu! Ordering through their website also tacks on a service fee, which is a bit annoying as ordering in the store usually comes with at least a 10 minute wait.

However, the noodles, soaked in the sauce, became a bit sticky, and they were too thick, as if they were just quickly stretched and cooked. Chilled Noodles涼皮: A weekend limited edition, icy cold, which was nice for summer. But the garlic flavor was too strong, extremely spicy, almost masking all the other seasonings. The presentation was just a box lid, which was a bit too perfunctory. Lamb Skewers羊肉串: Completely cold, and with an extremely strong gamey smell. I really don't understand how they dare to sell this?
