I believe that the people who rated this place are smoking tons of weed. The two of us had a single burger, double burger, fries, mushrooms and onion rings with a bill of $40. The burgers were way overcooked and tasted like old reheated meat. I would have to say it was the worst burger I have ever eaten in my 60 years of living. The fries, shrooms and onion rings were soggy and disgusting, fried in dirty old oil. The condiment station was out in the open and looked like a petri dish growing bacteria from science class in 1970. I should have left when I read that the burger is named " the ugly burger" it not only describes the looks of it, but the taste as well. Take my advice and skip this place your bowels will thank me. read more

Hard to get in this great hamburger joint. Hours don't jive well with a working schedule or if your driving to redding from Weaverville. But if you happen to make it during their open hours, you will be amazed. Hand pressed fresh meat, great condiment bar with all the fixings. read more

We were excited to eat at Giff's ugly burger until my daughter showed up crying and mortified with her experience. We both went in and ordered, I payed. She stayed behind as I had a hair appointment. She showed up at the salon in tears after how she was treated. My daughter wears a mask, she is currently staying with her grandma (so she can physically go to a school that is open) who has stage four cancer. Literally 1/2 of each of her lungs left. My daughter where's a mask to protect the grandmother she loves and adores. These men, who were friends with the owner, decided to bully and bash her like cowards, behind her back, for wearing a mask. Your not even man enough to ask her why she wears it??? You just assume?? Calling her a dumb liberal????? That's masks do no good??!? For wearing a mask to reduce the cross contamination so she doesn't kill her grand mother?!?! Kind a locals place. Nice owner and staff seems friendly but there are some problems here. While the food is decent (I had an ugly burger special) its a tad pricy for the quality. The meat is pretty good, nothing to complain of but the cheese was cheap processed and a tiny piece at that. And the bun is very boring. Condiment bar was OK, seemed fresh and good choices of toppings. Its OK but I'd rather go to Bartel's giant burger for what you pay. read more

Really good quality burger and fries from this spot. The owner is super friendly and greeted us at the door when my husband and I walked in (he also greeted the couple groups that walked in after us). Definitely a local one-of-a-kind spot, full of personality inside and clean (and they take credit cards now). The burger meat was super fresh and high quality that you can taste. This is a no brainer. Giff's Ugly Burger is a homerun when it comes to burgers in Redding. One would argue the best in town. You order it, have it served to you then...you put it together the way you like it. 25 or so toppings that complement the burgers. Giff...well he is one of a king and a Redding icon. Dick is a great dude! I love going into Giff's, as he cracks me up every time! This place is an iconic piece of Redding history. I tend to buy the daily special so as not to get too bored of any one item, as I eat there almost once a week. Ugly Burger, Steak Burger, Chili Burger, GOOD hot dogs, larger sized fries... it is all good. Yes, you put all of your own condiments on to your liking... and he has about every condiment you would want on your meal including horseradish. He does not buy processed patties from a vendor, they are all made custom to his specifications from a local meat market. OH, and, THEY NOW TAKE DEBIT AND CREDIT CARDS!!! My first visit to Giff's was in 1989 (I was four years old), and it has yet to get old. The food still tastes the same, the look of the place has barely changed (save for removing the baseball caps that used to cover the walls), and Dick is still the grouchy (in a good way) man behind the grill. I've never actually eaten an Ugly Burger as I can barely walk out of the place after eating a steakburger and fries, but the burgers are fantastic and the fries are among my favorite. It's small inside, but a table can usually be found with relative ease and you're never far from the condiments. read more
