The Walmart Supercentre at Islington and Rexdale is a decent, middle-of-the-road option for basic…read morehousehold necessities. The store features a standard selection of groceries, electronics, and clothing, making it a convenient one-stop shop for quick errands. However, the experience is frequently hindered by long checkout lines and understaffed registers during peak hours. Stock availability can also be hit-or-miss, with popular items occasionally cleared off the shelves. While the prices remain predictably budget-friendly, the messy aisles and minimal customer service mean it is best suited for quick, independent runs rather than an enjoyable shopping trip

I recently stayed in Vaughan for one night, close to the Brampton border. I was looking for a place…read moreto buy bubble tea for lunch the following day and found out that there's a bubble tea place at Westwood Square. I ventured out to this mall. I know this mall as Westwood Mall. When I worked at the old location of my current employer, I'd often drive up Goreway Drive to head home, and dropped by this mall now and again. It has been a good decade since I was last in this mall and it has changed. It used to be anchored by a Walmart. It was gone, which saddened me. It was a decent store that served this neighbourhood well. These days, you have Shoppers Drug Mart and Fresh Co. anchoring this mall. I do like the latter. The produce is fresh and it's a clean store that always has everything that I need. Although it looks nicer inside, it's a weird assortment of stores. I recognized the Scotiabank and that was it. Most are local. You get everything from luggage to cell phone accessories. The food court is on the second floor. It was where my bubble tea place is, but I never got that far. I ultimately got my beverages from Westwood Convenience on the main floor. Several people have mentioned that this mall has a sketchy vibe to it. I'd have to agree. The woman in front of me at the convenience store seemed incredibly out of it. She was looking for wrappers for her smokes. I couldn't tell whether she was in the lineup to pay. Frankly, I didn't think she knew, either! I'd return for Fresh Co. You can shop at this supermarket without going into the mall itself, which is what I like. Other than that, it serves the local community. However, it's such a shame that the Walmart is gone and folks need to drive further to find another one. (257)

You have a precious few necessities like the Bank of Montreal and .. I wouldn't necessarily call the Tim Hortons or any of the other retailers, necessities. You have an LCBO, a Winners, a Dollarama. So many tiny little other enclosed booths inside that are hardly worthy of being called stores. It was like looking at a strangely ruined version of a cross between a Pacific Mall kind of setup and an abandoned shell of a mall in Buffalo, but with few patrons. Not at all bustling, practically depressing. The whole interior is badly deteriorating. The floors are faded and worn, the glass windows are cluttered and dingy. We went into the Ardene for a gift shopping run and it's pretty much the highlight of this mall. Would not bother coming back if I can avoid it.

Lots of animal print clothing in synthetic fabrics. Why do I go here, you may ask? Well, it's across the street from my dentist, who is the best dentist ever, and I have followed him all across town from since the time when he was at Bathurst and Bloor almost 2 decades ago. And even now that I live in Ottawa, I still see my dentist in Toronto and make a whole road trip out of it, but I digress. I never know what traffic is like in Toronto so sometimes I arrive for my appointment way too early and so I head across the street to the mall. Every time I'm there, I ask myself what am I doing here? This is not a shopping destination. I have never purchased anything there. If you live in the area I'm sure it's functional enough - there is a Walmart there, but I would never make a special trip just to go there. Even the Winners, which is one of my favourite stores, is not that good there. The food court has independent stores as opposed to chains although they have chains too. And the layout is interesting, the food court stalls are in a cluster at the centre and the seats are all around the perimeter. This Mall is in serious need of revitalization in my opinion.

I drove over to the store and found a parking spot fairly close to the entrance. I then walked in. As soon as I walked into the store, I got a security guard. He was standing by the checkout area, but was pacing around the doors. I already didn't like the atmosphere. A male customer behind me shuffled into the store. He raised a bit of concern for the security guard. Moments later, I saw two security guards on duty, talking to this customer. I'm not a fan of security guards making folks feel uneasy. I did feel this way less than a minute browsing in this store. As far as merchandise goes, I did like the pasta-ramen-pho section. The canned foods section is great, both with its variety and price. The Valentine's Day merchandise was cool. I liked the heart plushie and candy. I ended up getting a couple of bottles of Diet Pepsi. I went to the checkout area, walking past two security guards. There were three self-checkout kiosks. I used the middle one. A human cashier was standing behind me as I scanned my items. I paid with a debit card. The transaction was smooth. I stared at the human female cashier. She didn't say a word until I wished her a good night. I didn't care for the stares from this woman and security. I will say that they were consistent and treated everyone the same with their cold stares. It's not how to attract customers into your store to shop. I will say that if the environment instilled some warmth, this store would do well. Get your meat and fresh product from Giant Tiger, and then get your shelf-stable and canned goods from this store while you're in this plaza. You'll save a ton and get what you need quickly. Maybe I need to visit this store more to see whether my shopping experience is less icy over time. The merchandise is great. Staff need to chill more. (23)

York Lanes is a small shopping mall at York University. If you are living on campus and don't feel…read morelike heading off-campus, it's a decent walk over. It has been there for eons. It has changed quite a bit since I was an undergraduate student, but feels the same. Although shops have come and gone, the York University Bookstore remains a staple. It was unfortunately closed when I was there for CRAM learning sessions at night. I like that there is a decent Shoppers Drug Mart now. I often had to visit one off-campus to get munchies, cold medication, and frankly hang out because everything was closed after my night classes had ended. At 10:30 pm, Second Cup and a few eateries were still alive and kicking. After admiring all the York University-branded sweatshirts, t-shirts, water bottles, and more, I need to come back and get something. I don't have much gear as an alumna! There is a decent parking lot on Vanier Lane where you can park your car. It's $8 if you park after 6 pm on weeknights and is good until 6 am the following day. It's cheaper on weekend with flat rates. You pay at one of the most sophisticated parking machines I have ever used. It accepts coins, credit and debit cards, bank cards, and YU-Card if you are a student. Yes! I used my bank card and the transaction was seamless. There is a walkway between this parking lot and York Lanes. The parking lot ismonitored, which is positive and reassuring. I had no problems here, as I spent nearly four hours on campus. I will return to get my York U. gear. It felt the same being here, even with the change in stores and look. (123)
