Woodside Square holds a special place in my heart as I grew up there; it's my hood. I've witnessed its transformation over the years into a remarkably Chinese-friendly mall, with an array of restaurants offering authentic Chinese cuisine and wide selection of common franchises. Despite the changes, my favorite spot remains the unchanging library, which holds nostalgic memories of my childhood. It's a vibrant mix of old and new, making Woodside Square a unique and evolving hub of community and culture.

Mall directory by the food court

My rating is 3.5 stars. It's tough debating whether to round up or down. For sentimental reasons, I'm rounding up. I dropped by Woodside Square often when I worked in Scarborough, which was roughly a five-minute drive. Pho Xe Lua was our hangout at lunch. I recently visited it after learning that this restaurant is still alive and kicking. Food Basics has been there for well over a decade. I'd drop by to get groceries after work before heading home. I'd often drag my parents over here to grocery shop, followed by hitting Bulk Barn next door. Sadly, Bulk Barn is no longer there. I'm not sure whether that's the main reason why the entrance between Food Basics and the mall has closed down. This wing doesn't have a ton of stores anymore. Although some stores have departed over the years (rest in retail peace, Bulk Barn, Zellers, Winners, EB Games, and more), the mall looks much better. The food court is much improved these days. It's clean and inviting. KFC is still there (I dropped by often back then that it's almost ridiculous and a tad embarrassing), but it's now a combo store with Taco Bell. Yay! There are new places, such as Call a Chicken. The name of this business cracks me up: "Hello, chicken? I love our phone chats about which came first: you or the egg." Call 1-800-call-a-chicken now! LOL The library is still there. So is Regal Photo, where I got my passport photos taken. It's nice that I still recognize some things. Royal Bank and Shoppers Drug Mart seem to be permanent fixtures here, which I used to frequent often. There are more bubble tea places at this mall. I want to try them. There's also a movie theatre. I've never been. One of these days, I will. This mall has plenty of parking spots. Even with the construction happening where the restaurant entrance to Pho Xe Lua is, there are still lots of available places to park. I love the improvements that have been made here. Some of the empty stores are a concern, but it's definitely more alive than I remember this mall to be. (398)

Woodside Square - Love and Peace International Themed Lantern Festival/World of Lights

This is my second visit here, both for outdoor events held on the Woodside Square parking lot grounds. Tonight, it was for the Love and Peace International Themed Lantern Festival/World of Lights. It was a beautiful presentation featuring a large-scale international outdoor light show composed of four main thematic elements; Light of the Universe, Light of Nature, Light of the East, Light of the West. The handcrafted lanterns originated from Zigong, Sichuan, China, and have come to Toronto after localized design in Canada. More than 50 artisans have contributed to the 100+ pieces in the lantern show. A worthwhile visually stunning exhibit. The general admission tickets were $12.00 (for 13 YO and up) and $10 (child under 12 YO).

Super cute dinosaur theme at this mall. Our favorite dimsum place Casa Deluz is here, next to an amazing Dollarama that has everything at an unbelievably low price and great quality. There are also quite a few household goods and appliances stores. I should brought an extra empty luggage.

Great mall with lots of free parking and plenty of shops. There are lots of Chinese shops where you will find niche Chinese products. The food court is also plentiful with enough dining spaces. They also have the wood side cinemas which displays Bollywood and Indian cinemas. Definite visit recommended

Nice place, greatly improved since last time I was there, but it smells weird. That have way too many shops in the middle of the hallways.

Also the washrooms in this mall haven't been renovated & are usually dirty. One plus for this mall is the new Marry Me Mochi donut place near Moxie's. Also this Moxie's has a great cook. The food here has always been good when I eat at this location. I have been to other Moxie's and they are not good. A con for this mall is the transit is now outside the mall on one of the side roads. When the LRT used to be open there was a bus bay there the buses used to stop. So for transit users this mall isn't as convenient as it used to be. This mall is best for those who have a car.

There's an Ikea city store and Urban Behavior clearance store with all items $10 or less. This new information kiosk is kind of cool. Its setup like a smartphone with widgets. If you are looking to do some Xmas shopping this holiday season then definitely come here. The food offerings here are excellent as well. They got a huge food court with lots of delicous food offerings across the globe. You want more of a dine in experience? Visit Moxies, Jack Astors, Scaddabush, Milestones, Hibachi, etc. The washrooms here need more TLC. The cleaning staff need to clean more frequently to make it a more pleasant shopping experience.

The lack of foot traffic creates a hollow atmosphere, and many of the remaining businesses are specialized niche services rather than general retail. While it is no longer a destination for a full afternoon of shopping, it remains useful for those visiting specific, long-standing tenants like the food court or specialized doctors' offices. For most, however, it serves more as a quiet shortcut than a vibrant commercial center.

The mall kind of shares a parking lot with two other plazas. You can pass through but I'm not sure if that was completely intended. This does happen to mean that it has an extremely busy parking lot as there are many restaurants and even a big grocery store nearby. Both the inside and the outside of this mall appear kind of derelict. On the inside, depending on the day, don't be surprised if there are a bunch of stores that are closed since most stores operate on their own schedule and not with that of the mall. There also are some empty stalls that kind of add to a weird ambiance. Speaking of, there are a ton of ginseng and Chinese health food stores in this mall. They're mostly owned by different people and they're all competing with each other so they will aggressively call you into the store which isn't really what I want to deal with on a leisurely walk. I really just wanted to take a peek at what was going on and after about 5 minutes I decided I was going to spend as little time as possible in here and booked it.

I have been to Dynasty Centre a handful of times. It's an area in Scarborough that I used to frequent with my parents many moons ago. With so many eateries in Markham, we rarely come down here. A few months ago, I dropped by to dine at Samosa Fusion with friends. This place offers an all-you-can-eat buffet with a special promotion at the time of $20 per person. I don't know if it has gone up in price, but it was regularly $25, which is still decent to stuff yourself silly. Next door to it is HK Garden. The Hong Kong-style milk tea (iced) stands out as being one of the best drinks I have had in a while. I recently did takeout from Great Fountain Fast Food. It's in the food court. The fried beef rice noodles were excellent. This combo came with soup and a drink. The hot and sour soup was amazing. I am still dreaming about the iced lemon drink, which was refreshing and so good if you are a lemon fan. This meal was less than $20. It was a great value for the quality of food and drink that I got. There is lots of parking at this plaza. I've seen it being fairly busy on a Saturday. It's fairly quiet after work on weekdays. I have been fortunate to not experience idiot drivers at this plaza, which is so refreshing! I am still working my way through the businesses. I have seen stores that sell DVDs, herbal stores, and more. So far, I've liked the eateries that I have visited. There's plenty for me to explore. (193)

There are a lot of the same types of stores - multiple day spas, places to get your haircut, and of course a multitude of restaurants both on the perimeter and inside at the food court. The parking lot technically has arrows that point you down which way to park but I've seen them ignored so just be careful. If all the surface parking is gone, there is underground parking towards the back of the plaza. The entrance to the main plaza is not the most accessible. The buttons to open the door automatically don't work. Right now the food court is take-out only. All of the establishments are open. They had some hand sanitizer at the entrance to the food court from the inside and social distancing stickers in front of each of the restaurants. I did notice that at the leftmost restaurant they were allowing people to bring in their own containers to get take-out. Maybe not the best idea during Covid.
