Yonge Eglinton Centre - view on Eglinton Avenue East at Yonge with construction
Mary T.

Yonge Eglinton Centre brings back fond memories. I have had a couple of stints in my life where I spent a lot of time in this area and at this mall. I recently cut through this area to reminisce and check it out amidst all the construction happening with the TTC's Eglinton Crosstown line. I attended York University as an undergraduate student. My home college was Glendon, which is a subway station and a bus away from Yonge and Eglinton. In my first year of university, I had four hours to kill between two classes on Tuesdays. It didn't make sense to go home and back. Instead, I'd hang out at various places nearby when I didn't have to study or do homework. Yonge Eglinton Centre was one of my chosen places. Back then, the Metro grocery store was a Dominion. I'm dating myself and don't care! There was a Grand and Toy, which I loved as a person who has always loved school and office supplies. Eaton's was alive and kicking around. I liked shopping at Fairweather for accessories and sweaters. In my second year of university, my last exam was on December 22. It was Linear Algebra I. I had a professor who loved theorems and had us rigorously write proofs. This exam was six hours in length. I frankly don't know how I survived. I finished just before 6 pm and my cognitive abilities felt like mush. I hadn't done my Christmas shopping, but did it all at this mall. I was exhausted, but it was good therapy relief after going through the longest exam that I had ever endured in my academic life. I did get all my shopping done, which is the cool thing about this mall. It has what you need. I loved this area so much that I had contemplated getting a condo here when I moved back to the GTA from Winnipeg. Everything is within walking distance, including this mall. I settled for Markham and am pleased being in suburbia. My second stint in the Yonge-Eglinton area was a decade ago. I worked at a company on Eglinton for two years, which recently folded last summer. I went out on Fridays for lunch. I liked the food court. I got hot dogs from New York Fries. I got my mozza burger fix at A&W. I was a happy camper. The food court has changed quite a bit. At least A&W is still there! I remember hanging out with a friend after work during this period. We sat on the steps of this mall, in front of Rexall. She was showing me her BlackBerry and we spent some time fiddling with it. It's interesting that we both don't work in this area anymore and don't have BlackBerrys. I often got ready-to-eat fruit at Metro. I liked the cubed watermelon and cantaloupe. It was nice having a treat after downing so much fast food! There was HMV where I spent my time browsing DVDs and CDs, which is sadly gone. I also hung out at Indigo and the Starbucks, which are still there. I went so often that the baristas knew me by my first name. I also banked at RBC. The Rexall, which is still there, had an RBC ATM. I'd often go there to get some cash and snacks. I do like the Pickle Barrel at this mall. I'd come here after watching a movie at the Cineplex. It's roomy and comfortable to grab a bite to eat. This mall has Sephora and Winners, which weren't there a decade ago. Once this pandemic is over, I'd like to check these stores out and the rest of this mall. Things have changed so much in this area. I need a third stint hanging around this intersection and mall! (47)

This place feels quite empty and quiet for the location and amount of space they have. The stores in here are not the trendy and popular kind, but it's got a small Urban Outfitter, Sephora, and Winners. I think most people come here for grocery at Metro, Cineplex Movie Theatre, or entering/exiting the Eglinton subway. They also have a tiny food court in the basement level, but much better food and restaurants are outside the centre across the street (Chipotle, Rolltation, Paramount, The Keg...etc.) I think this place has the potential to become a popular mall with a great location. But for now, it's just a pass by, or a chilling spot.

This is one crazy confusing shopping centre. There are escalators that don't really get you to anywhere, random people movers, and signs that point you in every direction that you don't want to go. I haven't done a ton of shopping here as I mostly just come for a movie once in a while. The stores I have been to are your run of the mill stores. The mall probably has everything you need to get your errands done on the weekend but if you're looking for everything, this place doesn't have it.

They now have zones called neighbourhoods. The newest neighbourhood is called Union Market, which opened 2023-05-09. This neighbourhood is made up of many stalls with many different vendors. Every stall is very modern. There are a few permanent vendors and 2 pop-ups on opening day. A few other vendors will open soon. There are a few lounging stalls with tables and chairs. There is even a sub-neighbourhood called Union Fresh Market! Union Market is not easy to find because it is tucked away when coming from the Union Station Subway Station. I had to ask some other vendors to point the way for me. There is "The PATH" that runs through the middle. The current stalls are south of The PATH. The stalls north of The PATH will open Sep 2023. It seems obvious to me I haven't explored Union Station since at least 2018 since I didn't know they extended The PATH into Union Station! The current vendors are: - The Alley - Patties Express - Chocollata Gourmet Brigadeiros - My Olive - Lena's Floral Design - Manotas Organics (not open yet) - Gemlet (pop-up) - Virtue Vintage (pop-up) I spoke to the staff/owners at each stall except for The Alley because they were constantly busy while I was there 16:15 to 19:30. I'm excited for Union Station. They made a modern Union Food Court many years ago, then they opened the Union Foodie Aisle in 2022, and now Union Market in.2023. The place is wheelchair accessible. There are washrooms nearby but not in Union Market. There is very little paid neighbourhood street parking, but there are paid parking lots. Review 2023-127

On my most recent visit to Toronto, my family and I visited the Bayview Village and had dinner at a restaurant where we made a reservation in advance. There's something for everyone and plenty to see and do, and I appreciate the renovations that have been done over the years. Bayview Village is known for some great restaurants and shops. In fact, there are many different options from upscale and casual restaurants to coffee and grocery stores. My favorites include Italian food at Il Fornello to shopping at Lindt and LCBO to casual like Aroma. You can find all 19 options at https://bayviewvillage.ca/shop/dine. There are also plenty of shops from upscale shops to more casual ones. You can find all 47 retail options at https://bayviewvillage.ca/shop/retail. Find exclusive offers from stores at https://bayviewvillage.ca/whats-on/?promotions. There are also fifteen different wellness options from dentists, hairstylists, spas, drug stores, and more (https://bayviewvillage.ca/shop/wellness) and thirteen different services from tailoring to financial planning to travel services, and more (https://bayviewvillage.ca/shop/services) There are also special events that take place (https://bayviewvillage.ca/whats-on/?events) at Bayview Village. While stores and restaurant hours may vary, the hours are typically weekdays from 10 AM to 8 PM, Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday from 12 Noon to 5 PM. There is plenty of free parking around the entire mall. You can read more about the Bayview Village at https://bayviewvillage.ca including a place you can sign up to be "in the know." I certainly plan to return again on my next Toronto visit!

We occupied the ninth floor. I loved the location. I'd take the GO train from Markham down to Union Station, and take the PATH briefly to Brookfield Place. There are a bunch of elevators that don't all go up to the same floors. You need to find the floor interval that suits where you want to go. If you are a visitor, Brookfield Place is beautiful. I remember taking a couple of Swedish colleagues to a Toronto Maple Leafs game and we passed by my old workplace. The Hockey Hall of Fame is located in Brookfield Place. I suggested that they go, as they were huge hockey fans like I am. They went the following day and absolutely loved it. My love for Starbucks is due to working at Brookfield Place. I'd drop downstairs to get a drink and take a breather. It's convenient to do a bit of shopping or grab a bite to eat. There's a food court where there are many fast food eateries. I'm sure they have changed since I was last there. There is also a Longo's Market. I'd often get cubed fruit, such as watermelon and cantaloupe, that was easy to eat at my desk to keep me content throughout the afternoon. There used to be a Marche, where you can choose from sandwiches and hot meals. I don't think it's there anymore, but it was awesome. The top floor is where you get to see the high glass ceiling and gorgeous architecture. I didn't appreciate it when I worked here because it was a fairly crazy time in my life working full-time and doing a master's degree part-time. However, when I have returned as a visitor, be it during Nuit Blanche or when I'm heading to Scotiabank Arena, I appreciate how beautiful the crystal cathedral of commerce is. My favourite memory will always be lining up with a few colleagues to get a free heart rate monitor on the first floor of Brookfield Place. We enjoyed missing a bit of work, chatting with one other, and getting a health gift in return. I gave mine to my parents and they still use it to this day. I miss Brookfield Place and the various giveaways that take place. I don't miss the job that I had or the stress that I had experienced. Luckily, I do get to drop by whenever I'm attending a concert.
