I live two hours away and stopped in to grab some food after my brother's funeral. The associate named Nicholas that was standing around self check out was very rude and acted like I was bothering him because I was having trouble checking out. He didn't even offer to give me a courtesy one time Giant card so that I didn't have to pay $10 for five avocados! Come on people! It doesn't cost anything to be KIND. read more

The only reason that this grocery store is still in business is because it's the only one in the Urbana area. This grocery store has to have the absolute worst self checkout. I can say, without hyperbole, that 70% of the time I shop here, the system screws up and I have to have an employee override it. Despite the fact that I'm on Yelp complaining about a self checkout system, I'm not a senior citizen so this is not "new technology" to me. No matter what I do to try and avoid this, more often than not I have to call someone over to fix it every time I check out. They are regularly out of basic items like vegetables. It doesn't matter what day of the week or time of day you go in, I have found empty shelves. If you have the time, just drive to the Safeway in Damascus. Far more options, rarely are the shelves unstocked, and the self checkout doesn't make me want to rip my hair out. read more

Rudest employees I have ever seen. A few examples: 1. Couple of days ago at self checkout I was struggling with a few grocery bags, and trying to put away the plastic hand basket. The self checkout employee was actually standing over the place where you stack the baskets, and watched me drop one of the bags while attempting to return the basket. Never said anything, or offered to help. 2. Was dressed down by an employee at self checkout, because apparently I wasn't scanning correctly. I had a few heavy items, and there are no scanning guns available, so you have to lift the items to scan them. Once I scanned them, I put them down where the groceries go, but the alarm would go off. The self check employee begrudgingly cleared the alarm, but not before checking item by item through my bags to make sure I did not steal anything. After that he told me I needed to scan and lift the items up to a certain level for the alarm to not go off. Quite a difficult process, that maybe I should train at. 3. Giant allows you to donate after your purchase up to the whole dollar. Every month it is a different cause. Sometimes I donate, and sometimes not. One month the donations were for USO, a service for military members away from home. Anyways I could over hear an employee talking to other workers, about how if people knew what the USO did they would never donate. He then went on to mention his disdain for the military. Every one is entitled to an opinion, but not as a worker in front of customers. Other Giants I have been to seem good, and never had any issues. I never take the time to leave bad reviews because all places are going to have bad days, and maybe an employee was just having a bad one as well, but this happens almost every time I go to this store. Unfortunately it is the closest store to where I live, but will try to avoid it as much as possible in the future. read more

Lovely new shiny Giant store. Well new to me, but it's very shiny none the less. I've had bad experiences of Giant in the past, though that was because I lived into the more shady areas of DC. The ghetto Giant if you will. Where ice cream is left to melt at the till because a customer decided to change their minds and the staff were too lazy to hussle it back to the freezers. Anyway that was my bad experience of Giant. This place seems nothing like that. The staff again are friendly (I'm putting that into a lot of reviews lately) and the place is well stocked. The ASR's are narrower than I'd like, but I'm willingly to overlook that as it's not a perfect world that I live in. The parking lot could do with much more space, more so as it shares its few spaces with the many businesses. But space is limited in this new purpose built town. The service is bad here. I've just moved to this area from Virginia and Whenever i come to shop I get followed around the store by workers as if I'm stealing. I am a military police officer and honorable veteran and I follow the law as well as educated with a degree in cyber security and make plenty of funds to buy my merchandise. It makes me feel as if something is wrong with my character. Lastly, Stop basing assumptions of people off how they look, yeah I'm a young black guy but that doesn't mean I'm going to steal. I will not be shopping here again it just sucks because it's the closest store to my home, but my character will not be infringed by your workers. read more

I was in the Urbana Giant the other day and I saw this beautiful poster of associates that graduated this year. The store did  a great job honoring their graduating students. This is why I shop at a community involved store. It is a very clean store and staff is very friendly.  I will tell others about what I saw and how they should shop at our local Giant in Urbana.  They totally get 5 stars from me. read more

This is a clean grocery store, and they have a nice selection of products. The produce is fresh and the associates are hard working friendly people. The only reasons for stars and not five is, I think the prices are not competitive enough with other stores that also offer fuel perks like Giant. The perks expire too quickly for as much as you have to spend to get a good discount on gas. read more

Swastika on the men's bathroom wall. While visiting this Giant I stepped into the men's bathroom to find a swastika etched into the wall at the urinal. Knowing how the world is today, and what city I live in, I wasn't shocked. So I took a picture to let the staff and management know about it. So as I'm finishing up in self checkout, I ask two employees who were standing close by to speak to a manager. Curious as to why I need a manager, I tell them about the swastika they have in the bathroom and show them a picture. To my surprise, they both look completely complicit with it and one even rolls her eyes. I get pointed to the manager (of Asian descent) who even more shockingly, has a complete nonchalant attitude towards it. I've contacted corporate, but should I even have had to? read more

I was at the giant in Urbanna Maryland. I was so ticked off watching this guy in the produce section of all sections of the store not wearing a mask because he thinks it's more important to talk on his cell phone he's been doing it for over 10 minutes now. The produce section seriously?! It looks to me that he just doesn't give a shit about this virus going around I will be contacting the manager of the store. It's not that important to make a phone call you can still talk on your phone while wearing a mask!!! read more

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE !!! asked my 12 year old daughter and her friend if they were shop lifting ?? they had a basket full of deodorant and razors for summer and after being accused of shop lifting and knocking everything off the aisles they left and were then followed outside by the manager and told not to take things off the shelves with out the intent of buying them after the girls politely explained they wanted to leave and not buy them after being accused of stealing and she told them not to take things off the shelves crazy ! after going back and speaking to them about the issues they told me they had never accused my children of shop lifting even though another worker had said they also saw it. they tried to tell me my daughters where lying and that they never had said they were shop lifting and never followed them out of the store this is crazy and they have lost a big customer. read more

Could be a nice store, but over time the aisles have become too full of merchandise. Everywhere you look! You have to maneuver cardboard displays to obtain merchandise behind them. The check out area is the same way. Open up the space and lower prices. read more
