I knew this place had closed their old location last year, but it wasn't until a few weeks ago I saw they had only relocated. It's a much larger space than previously and there's even a bubble tea place in the back. You can find a lot of ingredients, snacks and other items not available in other stores. This is a beautiful shop with a unique and broad selection. The herbs and produce are something I come back again-and-again to buy--because they taste so good. The Asian Market is small but well-stocked, and far cheaper than the grocery store for spices and other ingredients you might need for Asian dishes. I first went to the Asian Market several years ago in search of garam masala--I found a rather large bag of it and it was cheaper than the tiniest bottle I could find anywhere else. They also have every kind of noodle, tofu, rice, tapioca, pickled veggie, spring roll wrapper, and coconut product you can imagine. They also carry mochi, bean dumplings, and a huge variety of candy and cookies. Vegetarians, look closely at the shelf by the noodles before you get to the produce...it is full of mock meat products. I did not notice this on my first several trips to the store because the shelves are very densely packed. On my most recent trip I was very pleased to find a whole section of seitan and other gluten- and soy-based faux meats. I bought a can of "braised gluten" (seitan tidbits) called curry cha'i pow yu ($1.99) and a can of veggie mock chicken ($1.59). read more

Although it has only been a month since reviewing this place, an H-Mart has recently opened its doors in Frederick. Despite this, I still believe that vegetables and produce at the Asian Super Market is fresher than the ones sold at H-Mart. The Asian Super Market also provides a more homely ambiance as it is a family-runned store. read more

This place is much better than I expected. I was already disappointed with the lack of several Asian groceries in Frederick, and I'd heard that this place was really small, but today I decided to pop in and was pleasantly surprised. First off, mostly of the prices are great. I'll definitely come back later to stock my pantry with the various Indian curries and sauces that run no more than $2.00. The Japanese and Korean sauces (soy, mirin, bulgogi, kalbi, etc) are all priced fairly as well, much cheaper than other stores I've been to in Maryland. The produce section is quite small, but I don't really care to buy my produce from Asian grocery stores anyway. I was glad that they had fresh kimchi though. The frozen food section is decently stocked, although there's a little too much fish and not enough variety of other meats. But overall, for a town that doesn't have much variety in both Asian cuisine and shops, this store is much better than expected and shouldn't be snubbed. read more

Myanmar owns have many Asian food, have a few fresh vegetable gear to more southeast Asian which is very convenience to me. The food item organized by the regions. If you can't find it the owner is very helpful to locate stuffs. Great find! read more

I was in Frederick on business and decided to check out a couple of Asian markets in the area. This store was a bit hard to find at first, because given the name I was expecting something larger. It really is no bigger than an average convenience store. However, this little store is packed! I kept on finding things I wanted at every shelf I searched. Lots of spices, noodles and rice. A small, but select, selection of sauces and produce. They have really maximized there limited space. And there prices are excellent. Case in point- Asian Rice vinegar 24 ounce bottle for $3.29. The family that runs the place is Burmese, and very knowledgable and friendly. I will likely stop by any time I am in town. read more

A great resource for the Frederick community! You can find a wide range of South Asian (Indian-Pakistani), Southeast Asian (Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, etc.), Filipino and Korean goods, and some Japanese and Chinese grocery items. Much better selection and prices for these items than in local supermarkets. Has a limited amount of fresh produce, but fresh Thai basil, cilantro, mint, lemongrass, green papaya, upo (luffa), tofu and eggplant are usually available. No fresh meats or seafood, but small range of frozen seafood and cured meat products are available. Very good variety of dried spices and spice mixes for Indian, Pakistani and Indonesian cooking. Limited varieties of dried beans and lentils for same. Good selection of dried and frozen noodles, and wide selection of rices (white/brown basmati, jasmine, medium and short grain white rice, sticky rice) for many types of cuisine. Good but not extensive selection of sauces and other bottled seasonings, including fish sauce, soy sauces and curry pastes. Interesting variety of snack foods, both sweet and savory, from all above-mentioned regions. In addition to salty chips and cookies on the shelves, look in freezer section for Japanese mochi and dorayaki, Vietnamese and Filipino sticky rice snacks, Indian samosas and different types of frozen ice treats. One of the few places we have EVER found Filipino ube ice cream (Magnolia brand) -- and we looked in Asian groceries and supermarkets all over Montgomery County for 2 years when we lived there, and was surprised to find it here! We still have to travel 25 miles to H-Mart or Lotte Plaza for fresh produce, especially greens, and for fresh Asian cuts of meat once a week or every other week. But for shelf-stable products and last-minute ingredients like the herbs, the prices here are competitive and we would rather buy them here to support a local business. The staff are very helpful, but not effusively friendly -- they let you alone unless you ask for help. Don't be shy to ask if you're trying to locate something -- they know their inventory very well and will answer your questions, and will actually take you to products on the shelves It's not as small as it looks from the street and is tucked away at the far end of a strip mall on a one-way street (Patrick Street), just after Patrick splits and becomes one-way. But easy to access if you're coming from west Frederick, by turning left on Jefferson, then turning left again on Patrick so you're going the right way. read more
