Not very Common for a market!! Everything here is exceptional. I love all the fruit, I literally just ate a peach and was so compelled to write about it. The staff, while is mostly comprised of college age hippies are knowledgeable and actually care. The whole store is very clean and the meat counter while very small screams old school home made!! The sausages looked so good I had to buy some, and after cooking them up with some onions and peppers my neighbors above me who are vegans were peeking as they chewed their grass and had to rethink their decisions on eating food that my food eats. There are fresh made sandwiches that they will press for you and give it that grilled awesomeness that only comes when your doing something special with meat and cheese and good bread pressed with 400 degrees of steel resulting in a sandwich that makes you want to light a subway franchise on fire. Now on my most recent trip, covid is rampantly knocking off people so a lot of the fun stuff has been put away. Normally they have fresh cooked food that you can box up hot and take and eat. The selection ranges from American favorites like loaf of meat and spaghetti to Indian food to soups and salads ( spinach salad is good, the dressing makes it the bomb dot com ) and fresh cookies and breads oh my. ( Public Notice: no lions or tigers ) You will spend more money per item here than Walmart. They don't have as good of a selection as Wegman's. They don't have a coupon app thingy that makes you think your saving money like everyone else. But you will feel like your saving baby seals and once you leave and start to load stuff into your vehicle a rabbit will wink at you in a attempt to say thank you. The lesson here is pay more money for food that tastes like food and not canned crap. Yes, we all like to save money, and that's noble. But there is a time to eat your extra long chili cheese coney ( much love sonic ) and there is a time to bite into a peach and feel like your a little kid again and have wonderful sweet juice roll off your chin and life is once again, is worth living. While I like this place for the produce, it's very expensive. Wegman's is equally good and more cost conscious.

This location does not have a hot bar, only a small salad bar and soup. Also, the seating area doesn't have a sink to wash hands like the other location, but the still offer teal ad disposable utensils. I think this location is a little bit smaller than the one on 7th Street in Frederick. The selection is still great, lots of organic and vegetarian options, I love the juice selection! Lots of juices with 1 or 2 ingredients. I like getting snacks here for my daughter's lunch because they're not filled with junk. It is definitely more expensive than other grocery stores, but they have so many healthy options. read more

Sixty seven dollars for one pound of crabmeat. Enough said. I could spend less buying a crab trap, driving to Annapolis, and catching enough crab to make one pound of lump crab. And please don't tell me, "It's about the quality." They get their Chesapeake crab from the same provider that Cameron's around the corner does. Same name, same container. $42 at Cameron's. For $25 more per pound than Cameron's, I was expecting to see angels hovering over the seafood case, or something equally miraculous. So, if you feel the need to stroke your "eco-ego", then this place is for you. If not, I'd call this a hard no. read more

I've found the same exact organic chicken from the same makers and the same organic Indian dinners at Lidl's for fractions of what common food market is charging.. The frozen Indian dinners are only $1.99 on sale at Lidl's versus what CFM is charging. Also, $25 for a quiche that's insanity! read more

I have had a great experience in the past with common market and that's why I have continued to shop here for several years. However, on my recent shopping trip, upon purchasing a career salad for dinner, I opened the container to find a bug inside. This has never happened to me before but being that the strange insect was "sealed" inside the container for who knows how long, I was afraid to eat it so I threw it away without touching it. I contacted customer service via phone and email and have not gotten any type of response. A refund would have been nice, but it has tainted my willingness to shop here again. The staff has always been friendly and I'm sure this is just an issue from the back end (kitchen prep, customer service, management, etc.) but I would say just make sure not to blindly throw items in your cart and to inspect them beforehand just in case of issues such as this! read more

Why would anyone shop here instead of Mom's Organic Market (down the street)? I haven't been here in years (since I go to Mom's instead). But I was nearby, and wanted to pick up a few things. Romaine and leaf lettuce were both $4.99, while at Mom's they were $2.99. And the size of the heads of lettuce was half the size of those at Mom's. I also noted much higher prices on other produce, and it was lesser quality. I turned around and didn't buy anything. On my way out, a man (another customer), told me my shoe was untied. It wasn't. I don't know if it was a ploy to distract me (and maybe rob me?), or if the crazies shop here. Regardless, I don't think the $1.20 you get for being a member makes up for the ridiculous prices here...especially when there is a better option nearby. read more

This is a very good independent grocery store! I'm a regular Mom's Organic Market shopper. This store is better in some ways such as wider selection of products. I believe Mom's produce might be a bit more extensive based on my search for organic ginger roots. I didn't find any at Common Market. However 4.5 stars would be my more accurate rating. I'm delighted that enough people got together to form a co-op. I will make it a point to return when I'm back in Frederick. read more

I work in Frederick and this is my favorite place to go for lunch because they have a market cafe that sells sandwiches, fresh juices, fresh smoothies and they have a salad bar and hot food bar that is amazing. They always change up the hot food selections and It never disappoints! They also always have a dessert option that is a part of the food bar as well, and they are always always so delicious. It's always worth It! This place isn't as big as Whole Foods or wegmans, but you shouldn't think if it as providing any less. Also, I don't suggest buying anything you may later need to return. There is a female manager there that acts like she's doing you a favor to take back a spoiled item they should have never sold you. I have been coming to common market since they were a tiny store across the street many years ago and honestly I loved the place back then.. so much has changed for the worse over the years. I used to love shopping at the new location as well but not anymore. To start off the employees and management are rude and unfriendly. I am never greeted with a smile throughout the store or at check out. When I last visited three weeks ago I was checking out and I was trying to force some niceness out of the cashier.. I told him thank you so much and I hope you have an amazing day and he just looked at me rudely and said nothing. Now let's get to the food and selection- To start the entire store is completely over priced and that does not come with a good customer service as mentioned above. The same items I purchase at my local groceries I find here for A couple dollars more. This last visit I bought two bags of these coconut grain free chips that were on sale for about $3.. when I got home and opened the bag it smelled so bad and old as if the oil the chips were made out of was from many years ago. my family agreed that the smell was nasty and the chips were bad so I tasted one and it was even worse than the smell.. not edible at all. I get these chips all the time at another grocery store so I know what they're supposed to taste like. So I look at the expiration date and they are completely expired.. they went right in the trash and this is during a time where I can't afford to be throwing away groceries. I now live further out from Frederick about 40 minutes so it's not worth the drive to return but it is also not fair that they sold me expired chips that stunk like a rancid oil. If that bag was open for sampling no one would buy those chips ..they would go right in the trash. I also bought some bulk items which after being weighed ended up being so expensive for what I got. After a couple days at home I started to have moths that were coming from bulk items. Also unacceptable! I came in to pick up a snack for the ride home and after walking around came out with only the chips and a few other items because all their snacks were disturbingly over priced. They are making pure profit of their customers but also losing them in the process. Their produce section had declined tremendously from my last visit over a year ago..Very little to choose from at very high prices. That section was also pretty empty. Are eatery area was closed but even if open the prices again or enough to make you want to cook your meal at Overall the environment was unfriendly and I did not enjoy shopping here as I used to love. read more

Not only is the staff rude, the manager lied about an incident we had there. He approached me and my husband in a very defensive manner because I didnt have on a proper mask (it was mesh- a mask I have worn for ten months, to the doctor, dentist, etc)....he told us to leave, and followed us - my husband told him to stop following us, we were already out the door! He threatened us with the police. I called the higher ups to complain and the manager told them I refused when offered me a proper mask. NOT TRUE. He never offered me another mask. He was a complete and utter jerk to us. If customer service is the rating, these people get an F-. You cant fix things when people LIE. read more

My husband and I have been shopping at the Common Market for years. We are members but you don't have to be to shop there. The new store on 7th Street (just off of Rt.15) is fabulous. The team members are extremely helpful and friendly. If you have dietary restrictions, you'll find what you need...along with the regular items, i.e. deli, fresh meats/seafood/prepped foods, etc. I appreciate the organic selections...as well as the locally produced/sourced items. It's a grocery shopping experience you'll actually enjoy. read more

Normally I would give Common Market a 5-star rating. I have been a customer here since the days they were in that tiny shop across the street at the red light. So much good can be said about this market. But this is a review of their sandwich counter. Several months ago they changed their sandwich menu. It's been an adjustment but for the most part has remained quite good. I will say that their switching away from Tofurky and using Field Roast as a turkey substitute has been a huge disappointment. But this is about two consecutive experiences that have colored my once-rosey view of CM. A week ago I stopped for lunch with my son. He got something ready-made and I ordered my usual Garden Turkey sandwich, made vegan. We took our lunch to eat on the way and after a couple of bites I realized they had not made mine vegan. I looked closer and found I was right, it was turkey. So I removed the turkey and finished up my $8 cheese & spinach sandwich. Today my wife and I stopped for lunch. She chose a ready-made sandwich and I ordered the same I usually get, taking care to ask them to please ensure they do not put turkey on it. After a few minutes my order was called. I went to get it and found it to be some wrap. I asked and the lady said she would get it corrected right away and took it to the guy making sandwiches. I decided to just wait at the counter, believing it would only be a minute. After several minutes went by, and several people ordered and picked their food up, I asked again. She went and checked - the guy had not even started mine. By the time I got my sandwich my wife was done eating. So I skipped lunch. This was very upsetting for me. We are very busy so we take our Sunday to have a nice lunch together somewhere. Unhappily CM was not it for us and frankly it ruined my day. The lady at the counter did offer to refund my sandwich purchase and was very apologetic and very nice, and I did appreciate it very much. But I declined the refund because I was not out to get a freebie. I was, and am, genuinely unhappy, because this is two consecutive negative experiences at CM. I will have a hard time going there again because of this. I will likely just go for grocery items from now on and skip the deli counter, and that makes me sad. read more

I'm impressed with the improvements this COOP has made in the last year. Service has improved, their juice bar, hot/sandwich bar selections are delicious and things seem to be prepared much faster than they used to. Additionally, they've updated their outdoor seating area to make it more inviting. Weekly community event/activity offerings, combined with a decent selection of healthy produce, meats, etc., make this COOP a winner. Parking is never an issue and you get a "coin" for bringing your own bags (BYOB) which you can use upon exit (see dropbox to benefit charity of your choice). Also a great place to grab a gift for a health conscious loved one. read more

Very nice selection of organic foods. Common Market helps me get away from factory farmed meat and poultry. I like that I can find free range chicken here, along with locally raised beef. I docked two stars for two reasons: one, please train your cashiers that raw meat and poultry should be in a separate bag from produce. I don't want chicken juices leaking onto my lettuce. I understand they're trying to save bags, but severe food poisoning isn't worth it, trust me. Second-- their overly aggressive loss-prevention. It is impossible to spend any time browsing the cosmetics and supplements without being followed around. I am not shoplifting! It makes me really uncomfortable when they do that-- and causes me not to purchase what I otherwise might. read more

This is definitely one of my favorite local markets to shop at! Aside from the expensive prices (why I rated 4 stars instead of 5) Common Market offers a variety items for any type of diet preference or food allergen/sensitivity. The products are high quality and unique - you honestly can find any kind of product here that you are looking for that you can't find at your typical grocery store. The workers are extremely friendly! Unfortunately there are never any discounts here and signing up to be an owner is not worth it - hardly saves you any money in the long-run, despite the draw for getting 10% off 2 days out of the year. read more

This is a great find in Frederick! The store is always well-organized and clean, and the produce section in particular always looks fresh and inviting. Though the dairy section appears small, it's actually stocked with a variety of cow and non-cow milks, cheeses, and eggs. I just enjoyed a delicious homemade Cobb salad for lunch made with CMFC's salad greens and blue cheese :) On my first visit, I bought a couple of beef tenderloins that were pricey but amazing. I don't have the most refined palate but I can taste the difference between commercial and grass-fed beef and it is worth the money IMHO. The prepared foods are no less tasty. I bought potato salad, as well as beet salad and both were fresh and without all of the heavy handed ingredients found in similar items at a regular grocery store. The cookies are a bit pricey at $1.99 each but they're huge, moist, and flavorful. I like the chocolate chip and peanut butter ones. They have vegan cookies too, of course. My favorite part of the store is the smoothie bar. I've always enjoyed frosty drinks in the summer but it sucks how most places use mixes with tons of sugar. Here, the only ingredients used are the ones you ask for. I love the banana bread smoothie, which is just banana, cinnamon, almond milk, and almond butter. So simple and so good! I also like the Heart Beet, which is beets, ginger, carrots, and kale but it's definitely an acquired taste if you're used to super sweet drinks. Can you tell I like beets? I docked one star because while most items are comparable in price to other organic stores, some are just too outrageously expensive. $7.99/lb for asparagus? No thanks, I'll find another side for my steaks. Recently I went specifically to get wild salmon but it was $29 freaking 99 for a pound! Even Whole Paycheck charges $19.99 for the same! read more

I liked the Common Market a lot more 5+ years ago before they were catering to the carnivore crowd. They used to have such amazing selections of vegan and vegetarian food. Favorite spot for a nutritious meal is Common Market Hot Bar. Never have gotten a bad meal, and too many items to mention from the salad bar, hot meals, soup, stews, you name it I've tried it. I've tried to mimic a few of your meals for my family to enjoy as much as I enjoy yours. Also met a few from the kitchen who always great me and answer all my questions I have about a meal. Love this place! They have Whole Foods quality / offerings, even though they are smaller. We also used to sit st their cafe and eat wraps - those are good! Most recent visit we unknowingly purchased already rotten/moldy strawberries and an onion. Other than that we haven't had issues with their food. You can also become a co-op owner which provides some sales, etc. The staff are friendly/ helpful. Some of their prices especially in produce are more expensive than WF but if you're without WF in Frederick, this is a great alternative! read more

One of my favorite grocery stores! My dad goes there almost everyday and I found them through him! It's a little small, small aisles but I know they are expanding and I can't wait! They are the only place I know of who carries my favorite "yogurt" known as Yooga! It's amazing! I also love their tuna salad, chicken salad and vegan Mac and Cheese! Smoothies are good too have tried a couple. Prices are a little expensive but still worth it and it hasn't stopped me from going! read more

I love coming here for great organic produce selection and all-natural toilettries/beauty items. The best part about common market is their cafe area. The have a hot bar with an awesome selection of fresh, clean, and healthy food. They also make great sandwiches and smoothies. It is perfect place to eat healthy on your lunchbreak and at the same time pick up any grocery items you need. They also have a water dispenser to fill up water jugs. They have a lot of bulk foods like nuts, granolas, beans etc. I have not been impressed by their seafood department- the past two times I got fish there it was not good. read more

Common Market is a good organization, but I guess I am spoiled. I have been a customer since before whole foods were a "thing", (25 years) and I have watched their prices skyrocket over the years. In the old days, a very modest fee bought you a place in the co-operative. The co-op would then purchase items in huge quantities and make them available to members for a fair price. Bulk foods particularly were available for health- (and financially-) conscious people. I stopped supporting them once they moved to the new location and the prices tripled. They now have paid employees, rather than member-volunteers working there. I guess their competition is now Whole Foods, although the nearest one is 20 miles away, so they can charge whatever they want, however - there is a MOM (Mom's Organic Market) now, in Westview Center http://www.yelp.com/biz/moms-organic-market-frederick They are a little bit less expensive and a lot less reverse-pretentious than Common Market. So anyway, if you are just interested in selection and don't care about philosophy, Common Market is a good place. If you would rather just go to the place that doesn't hide that they are "corporate" you may as well head to MOM for price, Whole Foods for selection, or the organic section of Giant for convenience. I will hold out waiting for spring and the Farmers Markets, though those have become trendy too and the prices also have skyrocketed. At least there, my money is going right to the farmer. read more
