Now I'm born and raised in Maryland, but I'm currently living in San Diego where there are whole food grocery stores in every block. So the common market has always been a huge staple for me and I really appreciate the variety of vegan and gluten free options they have every time I visit home. I've never really gone to the location in 7th street, but I decided yesterday morning to grab a bite to eat and order a drink. I never really anticipated a bad experience, and it wasn't all that terrible, however, the clerk completely forgot to make my breakfast wrap and there was a lady that ordered 10 mins after me that got her food before me. I was already half way through my drink and I was shocked. The clerk even looked at me and said "oh sorry I forgot about your wrap it's coming out soon". To top it all off I ended up getting sick when I ate half of it, and I feel like the only reason the wrap made me sick to my stomach was because the young man was rushing to get my order out. Not a very good first time experience at this location, and it's sad to say this will be my last time here because the last thing I need is food poisoning. Very expensive, but VERY good quality food and products. It costs about $200.00 for a lifetime membership, so if you live close by, getting a membership might be a good idea. The hot bar food is good, the pre-made salads, sandwiches and grain bowls are delicious. The customer service is great. Its a great place for gluten free options and for those with diabetes! They have a HUGE variety of drinks, really unique drinks too. They have an a la carte food area. The eating area is pretty large, they offer your choice of compostible utensils or real flatware. They also have a water station with disposable cups or reusable plastic cups. I come occasionally for select items, it's a great place to supplement my regular grocery shopping. read more

I am a Common Market member and normally enjoy shopping here, which is why this situation has been so disappointing. During a recent visit, I had an uncomfortable interaction with an older gentleman working in the meat department. I first noticed him interacting with other customers in a friendly and welcoming way while I was filling my water bottles at the water station nearby. However, when I approached the counter to place my order, the tone of the interaction immediately felt different. I requested a specific cut of meat and asked if it could be cut into strips. The employee confirmed the price with me, which I agreed to. I then returned to the water station while my order was being prepared. A few minutes later he walked over to me to confirm the price again. I reassured him that I was comfortable with it. He then repeated and emphasized the price multiple times in a questioning manner before walking away. What stood out to me was that after this interaction I continued observing his service with other customers. He did not repeatedly question or emphasize pricing with them in the same way. Because the interaction felt unusual, I asked the cashier if repeatedly confirming pricing like that was standard protocol and was told that it was not. I then spoke with someone from management to share my concerns. Unfortunately, I left that conversation feeling as if my experience was being minimized rather than taken seriously. Today I returned to the store and had another interaction with the same employee. He took noticeably longer to assist me than other customers and had the same dismissive demeanor during the transaction. When I received my order, I thanked him. As I walked away, he and a younger employee said something to each other and laughed, which again made the interaction feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I understand that misunderstandings can happen and that employees may be having a difficult day. However, when a pattern of behavior feels noticeably different from how other customers are treated, it creates an uncomfortable experience. I am sharing this feedback because I believe Common Market values professionalism and respectful customer service. I hope management will take this seriously and ensure that all members are treated with the same level of courtesy and professionalism when shopping in the store. read more

I would have given this particular store four stars but the staff deserve an entire star for the superior level of customer service and friendliness that they show to you the minute you walk through the door. Service like this just doesn't exist in large doses anymore (for good reason) and when I experience it I very much appreciate it. The selection here is very good for organic and all natural foods. I come almost exclusively for the water alone but if there's something else I need while I'm there and it's priced reasonably then I'll take it with me. read more

I love Common Market. Been a member for years. I've only been to this new location twice. My review is mostly going to be about the curbside shopping experience. But, before I do that, I have to say what a huge, bright and wonderful new location this is. I still love the old location, it's much smaller and cozier shopping experience, but the larger size and variety are amazing at this location. So, onto the curbside shopping experience. I've been trying out a lot of curbside shopping during COVID, and it's basically the only way I do shopping at the moment, since I have a high risk family. Only the larger, 7th street location offers this service. I drive up from Montgomery county to use it. So when you go to their site, you have to create a "Mercato" account, which is the engine they use for their online shopping experience. It' was painless. Once you do that, you can look up The Common Market and then see their entire inventory and start shopping. I will say the Mercato interface isn't as great as some others (like Instacart or the one Harris Teeter uses), but it's good enough, and I got the hang of it after a few minutes. You can pick out your products, put them in the cart and pay. They do give you the option to have substitutions and I was able to write a note on the products to say what subs I was okay with. They do charge a 5% service fee, which is pretty standard. I've gone to other stores that charge about $5 unless you spend over $100 and another store that marks up the prices a bit and charges 5%, so I feel like these guys are one of the more reasonably priced ones. I liked that my shopper texted me on my pick up day, while she was shopping, and asked me about substitutions. I was able to approve them right there. Pick up is painless. You pull up on the right side of the store in the marked curbside pickup area, open your trunk and call the number. An employee was already out there doing another car, so they just asked our name. A few minutes later, they were loaded in my trunk and off we went. The employee was also very friendly. I shop Common Market for special organic items, farm fresh half and half, etc. Stuff I can't get at my regular grocery store and I'm grateful that they have this curbside service so I can still get those items regularly. We'll definitely continue to use this service. read more

I don't get the two reviews that were negative about this place. First the review that one starred the store because of a Covid-19 outbreak. They were very open to their customers about what had happened. However some people use that as a reason to go all 'chicken little' over the situation. No one was ever at risk of exposure. This a 'deep clean' of the store was not necessary. Second the friendliness of the staff. You should expect everyone to be false friendly to you all the time. It may make you feel good to have staff fawn over you, but it's false. They greet me and they check me out. I don't look for smiles or pretend friendship. Some however obviously do.... The place is a welcome addition to Frederick and it's better for a fat guy like me to move around in. It's a whole lot less cramped and a greater selection to be had. I'm told the community spaces are larger, which is a huge benefit to Frederick. It's just a shame that their grand opening had to be during the hard times that we are all facing together. Even more so with negative nancies about who want to put a place down without caring about the full facts. I'll be in as often as my waistline allows. And yes I'm also a long time member. read more

This hidden gem Cafe is head above shoulders in quality. Neighbored by starbucks and dunkin, you can find WAY higher quality coffee here. Fine tuned, locally/ethically sourced, freshly ground and properly stored from my observation. Great job! Awesome culture unique to a grocery store. The customers are insulated by a team that invests passion in their work and community. Shopping here is an experience. Oh yeah + superior products to fuel your body's engine. So nice to have all the fresh Organic Local Owned Veggies and Fruits and Meats! Their Smoothies they make fresh In House Made To Order are SO GOOD! Still need to try the Sandwiches and such they have too they make Fresh Made To Order! The Grocery side has lots of options and variety when it comes to what you are looking for or something you just want to try out! I went here yesterday (7th St..location) and checked out with two boxes; one had a salad in it and the other was hot bar (they are the same price). A lady approached and asked the cashier if she needed help bagging. The cashier asked me which box was which; when I answered her, the lady bagging literally stuck her finger in one of my boxes and said "that's not hot bar that's salad." Seriously? Please don"t contaminate my food to see if I was right or not, especially when both bars are the same price. I will not be returning to this location. read more

My one complaint: Never in my 19 years of grocery store experiences have I been to a store that is sheerly CONSTANTLY out of Dino nuggies. Two days in a row and they have been out. And of course one does not want to embarrass themselves by asking for a product like so! I love this place because of the products they carry, not just the groceries like amazing local made breads, but herbs and supplements too!! And who would have thought mushroom jerky could taste so good! I also appreciate the attention I get every time I'm trying to find supplements. I did however have a lesser experience today with getting juice made for the first time. I've tried to get juice in the past but no one was ever available to help me behind the counter. This time someone came to help (!) but unfortunately acted way too busy to be bothered with me and got my order wrong. And it's $9 juice. Great organic market that recently opened a second location on Seventh Street. The new location is larger has an even better meat and seafood selection and takes special orders. We ordered a rack of lamb for a special occasion and it was the best meat I have ever tasted. The produce section is wonderful as well. Staff are friendly and helpful. read more

Wow! What RUDE employees they have hired for the new store! I have been a member of Common Market for decades, since they were a tiny storefront. I was excited about the opening of the new 7th street store, which is closer to my home, but based on my first visit today, I won't be shopping here. Most of my trip went uneventfully, but when I reached the checkout lane, I was surprised to find that the checker, Juliana, did not greet me, or in any way acknowledge my presence. She seemed angry for some reason. Then when I tried to use the Thanksgiving special I was notified about by postcard, she said I could not use it without bringing the postcard in. I was told explicitly at the other store, years ago, that you don't need to bring in the postcards and that use of the specials and one-a-months is tied to your membership number. I have used dozens of specials over the years since then, without ever bringing in a postcard. It did not even occur to me that I would need to do so. When I stated that I had been told they didn't need the postcards by the other store, Juliana just restated the price. I reiterated what I had said, hoping for some solution other than just to pay full price, and both her and the bagger (Kate) who had materialized at the end of the line also without greeting me, did not respond at all, nor even look at me. Having not received any response, I said I guessed I would need to leave my groceries then, and Kate said, extremely rudely herself, that I "didn't need to be rude" and finally bothered telling me I could come back with the postcard (which thankfully was still in the recycling bin!) and receipt, which she should have told me in the first place. There are good things about this store, such as the expanded pet section and the polite and knowledgeable meat counter staff, but I am so angry at the way I was treated at checkout that until and unless I get assurances that staff will be trained better, I won't shop here again. I cannot overstate what extremely poor, customer-unfriendly attitudes Juliana and especially Kate had. Not worth it to face rudeness like that again. One employee might be a fluke, but two in one trip implies to me that there are hiring and/or training issues. read more

The 7th street store is very nice. Great layout, checkout folks were very pleasant. However, I asked for a salad bowl at the cafe and was told it was available on the floor. It was not available on the floor and the person behind the counter, although well-intentioned lost the sale because they didn't know their inventory. Overall the shopping experience is very good and I've been an owner for years. I'd recommend store management improve customer service by making the staff more aware that it's a new store and as things open up more people will be coming in who aren't familiar with the layout. Don't avoid eye contact or zip by customers who may need a bit of help finding things. read more

Don't listen to the 1 star reviews, my guess is they are just sad trolls or haters of the people. I live in Frederick and go to Shuffs weekly for meat. They have never been anything but helpful and professional. The selection is AMAZING and they will cut whatever you need if you are a BBQ'r such as I am. Do yourself a favor and stop in and buy a steak, go home and cook it however you like, you will be a fan forever. read more
