Background: my wife's family was in the concessions business. We averaged about $1.5 million a year in purchases at Restaurant Depot in Pittsburgh. I know a little about wholesale food and beverage purchasing. Fast forward 10 years to a new life in the Hagerstown area. Nearest Depot is about 70 miles away I'm throwing a party at the house and need to make some wholesale purchases. A Google search turns up Johnnies I'm so excited! We grab our Jetro cold bags, jump in the car and drive there. As soon as I walk in the i catch a whiff of rot and Clorox. The "wholesale" meats are individually flash frozen steaks. Delmonico: $22.95 per pound. The frozen produce is lower quality than Sysco, and that's saying something. Frying pans that are $25 at RD are $65. After less than five minutes, we put our empty cart back and start to walk out the door. "Hey!", the guy at the checkout calls. ""What the f*ck did you put in those bags?" I fight down the urge to channel my inner Deniro - "Are you talking to me?" - and say, "Nothing. Feel free to look." He then tells me not to go anywhere, comes over, looks through my empty bags, and says, "You're lucky this time. You can go." And, like George Thorogood, out the door I went. However, this fine grocery store had not closed, and rather, it closed briefly about 3 years ago and then moved just a short distance from its old location on West Patrick Street, and popped up again in short order at 45 Waverly Drive, less than a block from its old location (which had been near the intersection of West Patrick St. and Waverly Dr.) and still to the north of West Patrick St. So, this grocery store is still open, and doing fine, and it seems to use both the shortened name Indian Bazaar and the longer name Frederick Bazaar - Indian-Pak Grocery Store. Currently the hours are 10 AM to 8:30 PM, according to the store manager with whom I spoke on Jan. 20, 2016. BTW, the current primary phone # for the store is (301) 668-8899. The old phone # (ending in 2090), for the old location, which still shows on the older (CLOSED) Yelp listing, is no longer the correct number. I submitted some edits to Yelp on Jan. 22, 2016 to enable the creation of this new listing for the shop, one which updates the name of the shop, and also corrects the street address and the phone number. This is a very good grocery store that offers an excellent selection of Indian and Pakistani and related grocery items, including a large array of refrigerated and frozen foods. In my experience, the staff is always friendly and helpful, and when I called the other day just to be sure that they are still open (I was last in the store a few months ago), the older man who answered the phone was very helpful. And, during a recent visit to the shop on Jan. 22, 2016, even though the shop was incredibly crowded, the staff was very calm and helpful. Incidentally, all of the prices here seem to be very inexpensive. To my best knowledge, this is still the only Indian and Pakistani grocery store in Frederick MD. Yes, there are one -- and sometimes two (the number fluctuates) -- general Asian markets located in Frederick, and each of them do claim to offer at least a small selection of Indian foods, but neither of them offers the vast array of Indian and Pakistani foods that are offered by Indian Bazaar, aka Frederick Bazaar - Indian-Pak Grocery Store! I spent around 2 hours shopping inside the market as I made sure to visit nearly all the vendors and get all the items I was interested in trying for the first time. First stop was the candy vendor where I got a quarter pound of cookies n cream fudge $3.98. Then the Bakery vendor where I got a carrot cake (whole) $21, cream cheese cinnamon buns $7.59, white icing cinnamon buns $7.59, pumpkin roll (whole) $10, and a carrot cake roll (whole) $9. Then I went to the donut vendor where I got a dozen assorted donuts $15 but I only had a glazed, chocolate Oreo, fruity pebble, Dutch crumb filled, and s'more. Then the fresh produce & juices vendor where I got an orange juice half gallon $14, strawberry lemonade $10, and blackberry lemonade $10. Then the pizza vendor where I got a slice of their bbq chicken pizza $4.55. Then Ben's bbq where I spent $43.68 and got less than half a pound (.40) of their bbq ribs, a quarter pound beef brisket, stuffed chicken breast meal with 2 sides (smoked Mac n cheese & mashed potatoes), and 14x assorted wings (bbq, smoked, Cajun, honey bbq, old bay, seasoned, and bourbon). Then the log & pretzel vendor where I got a Cajun crab log $7, beef brisket log $8, cinnamon sugar pretzel $4, and a side of white icing 0.75$. Then Verna's sub shop where I got an 8 inch steak n cheese sub $12.49 and large boardwalk fries $7. Then the farmer's cookhouse where I spent $23.82 and got a 3pc dark meal with 2 sides of wedges, 1 fried chicken breast, and a pulled pork sandwich.
