Sauerbraten plate! TWO big pieces of beef, 2nd piece hidden under the top piece!
Joyce T.

The outside and interior of this restaurant might look plain but the food here is outstanding! The sweet lady server brought our delicious sauerbraten and roladen plates. Saturdays are the days to get the roladen. Friday's and Saturdays are to get the sauerbraten, like a roast beef, 2thick style cut beef slices. They come with a choice of starch sides and cabbage. Their other specialties are the chicken or pork schnitzel with their array of toppings. These are served everyday. Easy to get to and lots of parking. Beer, coffee and more to drink!

A casual and comfy mom-and-pop style diner serving generous portions of German food. We were seated immediately for lunch. The woman working at the restaurant was courteous and friendly. We ordered the Rahm Schnitzel Entree and Jager Schnitzel Entree with a side of Currywurst and sauerkraut to share. The food was prepared fresh to order and took a bit of time to get out but it was worth the wait! The star of the meal was the creamy Rahm schnitzel and sauerkraut side! I do regret not ordering the potato salad but we will definitely be back to try it in the future.

The super friendly service from the time we walked in was wonderful. The food suggestions were on point and so delicious. Everything served was fresh, hot and so awesome. There's so much more I wanted to try!

2.5 that I'll round up to a 3. The food was good but it took too long to prepare the food. We arrived around 12:15 on a Tuesday. There were already 3 small parties finishing up their food and a party of two that had drinks but were waiting for their food. The ambiance is no frills but clean. I ordered the meatloaf with red cabbage and mashed potatoes. The potatoes were buttery and delicious. The meatloaf was on the drier side but the gravy was very tasty. I love meatloaf, so I specifically picked this restaurant to have it for lunch. Unfortunately, the food takes a really long time. We waited well over an hour for the food. For the two people who had salad as part of their lunch, there was a long wait between ordering and getting their salad, as well as over 30 mins for our lunches to come out after they got their salad. At one point I thought they had forgotten about us, but then the table of 2 next to us got their food and I realized it was just slow. I also saw two people pick up a to go order about 5 mins before we got our meal. It would have been nice if they gave us a heads up about how long you have to wait when we ordered. We left the restaurant at 2. There is a 3.5% charge to use your credit card, so bring cash.

I came here with my mom and sister. The atmosphere is no-frills but the service and quality of the food was incredible. I cannot believe that I haven't tried this restaurant until this visit. Everything was so good. The food, the desserts, the beer--all delicious. I will make German Diner a MUST every time I am in town. 10/10.

Jager Schnitzel Entree Spatzle Bratkartoffel

Found this little gem in Lacy WA, looking for Doner Kebabs, lol. Took the drive from JBLM after a long day of cold and rain. Arrived at the German Diner. The lady that ran the place was very nice and explained a few things. Needless to say the food was excellent. Washed it down with a cold Kristal Weizen. Would definitely recommend.

I've had a hard time finding great food in Olympia ever since I moved, but maybe I've been looking at things the wrong way. Instead of expecting amazing Parisian grade pastries, Austin level barbecue, or San Francisco level Asian food, I should try the stuff that the settlers around here specialize in- Nordic/Euro type foods. We had a craving for some German food, which we never have, but we were watching a movie at the Regal and wanted dinner before, so we drove up to German Diner and wow. It was weird. We came in and there were people seated at the tables near the wall and they looked at us silently. Did we interrupt an AA meeting or something? I guess they were just waiting for the lady to take their orders because after awhile, things warmed up and those diners started acting normal. The restaurant is proud that their food is homemade and for once that is actually true, because I think the owners actually live above the restaurant. And the food is so good! I had the meatloaf with red cabbage and mushroom sauce and it was so freaking good. Sis had the Jagerschnitzel with noodles and that was even better. Even the side salad dressing was simple, but delicious. We had a piece of cake and that was great too. Both Sis and I have traveled around Germany and we were not impressed with the food, but this place in Lacey was better than anything we found on the continent.

Been there many times I love the schnitzel cordon bleu (extra cheese and ham). It is excellent, and my wife likes the schnitzel.

Recently stopped in here for a date night with the wife…read more We've been looking for a decent replacement ever since Tacoma lost the Rhein Haus. Since my wife is of German heritage, brats and kraut are a thing in our life. The menu here looked really good, so we stopped in our 29th anniversary. I will say, there is a parking lot across the street. For those who've been in the area for a while and remember past times, it used to be a used car lot Luckily I found an empty spot on the street right out front, so I grabbed it. But yeah, parking in this area can be tricky. Just be aware that there is the lot across the street on Puyallup Avenue, the entrance is from "Court A", which looks like an alley but is technically a road. Tacoma is fun like that. So let's talk food. We ordered the Brätzel, because my wife loves a good soft pretzel with some beer cheese. This one states that it's a beer cheese soup, and it was a bit thinner than a typical beer cheese. But it had a really good flavor. It was not gritty at all like some beer cheese can be (I'm looking at you Hops&Drops). I'm not a huge pretzel fan, but I will say that I tried a portion of it and enjoyed this one. The pretzel had a good flavor and the beer cheese soup was great. We also split the Landjäger / Käse Platte. Let's get one thing clear, this thing is bigger than it looks on the menu. There's a lot here. I'm really not sure exactly which of the four cheese were which. If you go by the description on the Käse Platte then it should be Bavaria Bleu Crème, Raclette, Emmentaler and Butterkäse. The Bleu Crème is easy to spot. The rest look similar really. But each had a unique flavor and all tasted absolutely wonderful. The cured beef and pork sausages were good, but the cheese stole the show here. We also shared the Berliner Platte for a main. Again, I can not stress this enough, there is A LOT of food here. the two of us had no chance of eating all this. This plate comes with the following sausages; Berliner Bratwurst, Smoked Cheese, Spicy Cheese, Chicken Andouille & Bockwurst as well as being served with sauerkraut and you get to pick two sides. We chose the Spätzle and Pommes (fries). All of this was amazing. The spicy sausage and the andouille were too spicy for my wife, but we knew that going in. If you have a group and are wanting to sample the many wursts here, I would highly recommend this plate. Now, let's talk service. I don't remember our server's name, but she was so great. Very friendly, very tentative, very good at her job. This was exactly the kind of service I look for when I go out to a restaurant. I don't want some tablet where I'm interacting with a faceless machine, I don't want a kiosk, I want a real person who engages with us and helps make our experience the best it can be, and this place gets it. The staff here is on point, they are good, they take good care of you and the experience made s want to come back. This place is for sure at the top of our list for German food here in Tacoma. If you have not been, you need to stop by. It's not big, it's not fancy, you'll drive right by it if you aren't paying attention. But this place is by far the perfect replacement for our missing sausage haus. We are so glad we stopped in.

As we arrived, we weren't sure if needed to seat ourselves but by the time we were about to look at a sign, a kind waitress let us know that we can seat ourselves anywhere and brought us menus. I saw that they had tables with fires which was really cool but unfortunately there were a lot of people sitting there so we just sat at the longer tables. The interior of this place is huge and bright! They have plenty of seating inside and it looks like they do outdoor seating which is dog friendly. We were told that they will have days where they have musicians playing German music and that it attracts quite a large crowd. Our waitress Sara was hilarious, personable and did a great job of taking care of us. She really made the visit all the more memorable and fun! We did order a lot: Berliner Platter with chips and spatzle, Berliner Sliders with fries and a bratzel. We did not realize just how huge the portions were for everything, like the platter was going to be big but we weren't expecting the amount of food for other order. Everything tasted absolutely amazing though! We really enjoyed everything and they do not mess around with flavors cause you taste exactly what they advertised. The house made chips were also fantastic and probably some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend and I are excited to return and definitely will be sharing this spot to others as we thought we had to drive to Leavenworth for good German food but it is closer to home than we thought!

Been here many times and well worth the drive from University Place where we live…read more The menu has expanded along with the wines available. The ambiance has increased from a 6 to an 8 or 9. The food and presentation has remained a solid 10 out of 10. We enjoyed 2 appetizers, 1 salad that we shared, 2 entrees 2 deserts, 2 coffee's and 1 bottle of a very nice Southern Rhone wine for a price that was at least 1/3 less the cost of their value. Lamb shanks and duck breast in a reduced cherry sauce that was perfectly prepared, presented and served. I am very particular about duck even if you can find it on a menu. It was a 12. If you miss this dining experience you lose. This is European chefing at its finest. In Parkland no less. A 3 or 4 times a year type of fine dining place. Yes, we eat out often and know our stuff.

Since it was happy hour, they had a lot of their popular menu items at a discount. We got the giant pretzel charcuterie platter, wings, fries, and a bratwurst. Their pretzels are absolutely delicious - so soft in the middle with the classic pretzel flavor crust. I really enjoyed the giant one! I also liked the bratwurst a lot, while the wings were just alright. Drink wise, I got the elderflower cocktail which I genuinely thought was one of the best drinks I've had around here. This place is huge. Service: fast but not very happy looking people. Since today is Sunday, they have brunch menu. You can still order the regular menu except the Entree section. Our fav is the giant pretzel, 9 out of 10, it is thin crispy skin, and very soft moist airy inside. The dipping is ok. As for the wurst, we like the harbanero cheese better than the other two. Overall just ok.
