Been here a few times and it's always great. Always always always get the french toast because it's the best, but a lot of their things are really good. The prices get a little expensive but it's worth it. The place is cute and the service is great and I love the whole vibe. The weekend gets so busy so I usually go during the week but yeah... it's one of those Seattle essential brunch spots. The parking in the area is pretty easy and there are a lot of other great spots in the area so definitely check out the area if you have time. read more

Geraldine's is an adorable, vintage neighborhood eatery that now has a place in my heart. After seeing lines out the door consistently (especially on the weekends), we decided to stop in today to see what it's about. This place does not disappoint! First of all, everything we ordered was so fresh. The French toast was thick, sweet, and crispy. Best I've ever had. The casserole was also amazing, not your average greasy breakfast fare. While hearty, the rosemary in the casserole gave it a sophistication I didn't expect. We will definitely be back! I'm eyeing homemade coffee cake for next time. read more

Quick to seat us but I think we beat the rush since 10 min later there was quite a line. Our server was friendly and took care of us well. Their pancake flavors change but I would recommend always getting a pancake on the side for whatever breakfast meal you get if you don't already go for the 3 stacks. Portions are good. Really wanted to try their cocktails since they had a variety that looked good but thought it was too early to drink ....maybe next time. read more

Today was my second time at Geraldine's and my boyfriend's first! We ordered the spinach, feta, basil & tomato omelette, country fried steak, and their well-known French toast. For drinks we got a strawberry lemonade and ginger ale. The omelette was a little too wet in my opinion, and came out with a puddle of liquid underneath it probably caused by the excess liquids from the spinach and tomato inside. Not too terrible, but O wouldn't order again. Anyways, I was willing to overlook this because of how delicious everything else was. The vanilla pear French toast was arguably "the best French toast we have ever had". The exterior has an uber crispy crust and a soft chewy texture within. 10/10 recommend getting a half order like we did if you are craving a bit of sweetness in your meal. Lastly, the chicken fried steak was also not a let down. We couldn't get enough of the delicious, creamy gravy. On top of this, our service was a 10/10 today. The food came out within 5-10 minutes of ordering and our waitress was extremely attentive. We will definitely be returning again soon! read more

Been going to Geraldine's for years. It's good and local. I can order for pick up and staff is friendly enough. What I do not like is the inability to reach the restaurant. I've placed many orders and occasionally they will call me about my order and if I miss the call I absolutely cannot get ahold of anyone when I call back. Also, if there is an issue with my order that I pick up then I cannot reach anyone. Most recently I tried to call to see what time the last orders are taken, no one answered per usual so I went in and ordered in person a usual, the Cobb salad. I have modifications like I always do. I showed the person my typed modification (just a cheese substitution) and I verbally stated it and confirmed. I paid cash and then left with my two Cobb salads. I got home and the salads were incorrect! Nope, not the salads I wanted and paid for. Like usual, I tried calling Geraldine's 3 days in a row, leaving voicemail messages twice, and still no response. It's a shame that I have to leave this review, (which might otherwise be 5 star because mistakes get made and that doesn't necessarily outweigh the collective experience), just to get a response from management or the owner. read more

Great service! The sandwich was tasty. One star off for not seasoning the egg and sloppy sandwich assembly. After adding salt and pepper and rearranging the sandwich, all was well. Another ding for only making some of the hash browns crispy. I like my potatoes crispy. read more

I got the emerald scramble with the sourdough which includes pork sausage, red bell pepper, shallots, hashbrowns, spinach, and pepper jack. The meal was barely salted and everything seemed to be steamed together so there wasn't much flavor. I couldn't taste any pork even I can see it is there. All i tasted was cheese. Sourdough was good though. read more

This place is a must when you're in the Columbia city area. My favorite brunch spot since they have the best french toasts in town! Not too soggy, but not too dry. Just a bit oily in my opinion. I would recommend to get a cup of fruit to go with it. Another favorite thing from the menu is chicken fried steak, the portion is big and it comes with 2 slices of fruit, 2 eggs and some hashbrown. Nothing too special about them side dishes because the chicken steak took all the spotlights! The gravy is thick, creamy and well seasoned. If you're in the area, gotta try this place out. And they close pretty early. So take a chance to try out the legendary chicken fried steakkkkk read more

Geraldine's just seems to never get old, and it shows with a line outside the door every weekend during the brunch hour. Every single time I've visited Geraldine's it takes a bit to get in, and there really isn't anything fancy nor unique about this place yet it's special. This no-frills, diner-style breakfast joint serves good ol' classic dishes that the Gilmore Girls would eat, and that's something every neighborhood needs. In my last visit a group of four of us came around 10AM on Saturday and the wait was about 40 minutes, which was not surprising. Once we were seated our server came by with menus, and asked if we wanted anything to drink. Oddly enough, I always have a difficult time deciding what to order here because I'm not too big on hearty breakfast meals. For breakfast I'm usually good with coffee and a croissant and call it good, so you can imagine the predicament I was in when I was here, trying to decide between a breakfast item, what Geraldine's does well or a lunch item. In the end, I went with the Biscuits and Gravy over the Turkey Sandwich because if I'm gonna eat at Geraldine's then I damn well eat breakfast. It may not have been what I normally eat for breakfast but I didn't regret my decision. The Biscuits and Gravy came with a side of hashbrowns, fruit and two eggs, cooked to your liking (I ordered mine poached). The food didn't take long for us to get, and I was pleased with my entree. It was a big portion; and though I don't usually like pork sausage, the gravy was tasty and not too salty. The same could be said for the hashbrowns, too. It wasn't too salty, which I hate with homemade hashbrowns, but it was good here. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, and loved the runny yolk I slathered my hashbrowns with. I love biscuits, which is primarily why I chose this dish, but have to say that it wasn't the best. It wasn't as dough-y or fluffy as I would've preferred, but it wasn't bad either. If they had been taken out of the oven just a minute or so before they may have been perfect! Overall, the Biscuits and Gravy was a solid choice and am glad I tried it. read more

This is a great breakfast spot. Food: I loved my french toast with homemade jam. ICam with two eggs any style you want with a sausage patty. I'm telling you the jam wasn't too sweet which most places that have jam i USUALLY don't like. I found a place that can make the acception. The crunch of the french toast which was most likely wrapped in corn flakes but wasn't named to be. So amazing! The lightly powdered sugar parking: All street parking, you mostly have to park in the neighborhoods. verdict: it's worth a shot. read more

I don't quite get the hype: run of the mill service, bland food, canned peaches on top of the French toast. The food was overall uninspired and uninspiring. The portions are quite small, particularly given the price point. The casserole was devoid of salt, mushy, with a tiny amount of sausage and hash browns . My main gripe was the $15 french toast which is 3 small pieces of deep fried toast with 4 canned peach slices on top. Like, can't you throw a few fresh strawberries or blueberries on top? It's the PNW and they're in season. The tartness of some fresh fruit would cut the cloying sweetness and greasiness as well. Not a repeater for us sadly. Perk - no wait on a Saturday and the food came out fast. read more

We were in town for a football game and decided to yelp for yummy food experiences throughout our stay! This one was a disappointment for sure. Our wait wasn't long for a Thursday morning, however, once we got seated our server asked for our drink order. I said, "coffee please". My husband interjected and said "two coffee's - wait, I'll take a sip of yours babe, let me get an orange juice instead". I replied "sounds good" - we sometimes share food or drinks ... the server looked at us and said "we don't share coffee". I said umm, what do you mean? She replied "we don't share coffee" - I said well, we would like one coffee and one orange juice. She had a face. She went to the counter/register and started talking s*** to the other servers and they were making faces the whole time. The rest of our group, noticed it too. I'm sorry but you can't tell me when I can or cannot share my drink. I'm paying for it and that's all that should matter. I didn't even finish one cup so if refills are your concern - that's wasn't the case. She was extremely rude and I can tell I was being talked about. The biscuits were bland and nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to an American breakfast. Given I spent $110 dollars, sharing a coffee cup shouldn't be a problem. read more

Love this diner! Super friendly staff and their food is consistently good. You can find free 2 hour parking a couple blocks away, or pay parking within the area. Highly recommend their French toast and chicken fried steak. FRENCH TOAST (5/5): They have different toppings each time, but every time I go, it's poached peaches or mixed berries, which aren't that exciting or special. But the French toast itself makes up for the toppings. It is beautifully crispy with the right amount of softness. Best French toast I've had in Seattle (i think even better than portage bay). The half order comes with 2, while the full order comes with 3. Definitely worth to share the half order to get your sweet tooth in and try this deliciousness. Or you can have it all to yourself and get a side of hash browns or bacon to add the savory touch. Their hash browns are super crispy and just the right amount of potatoes. If you pay the entire check in cash, you will get a G buck for every $10 before tax and tip, which is $1 that can be redeemed on your next visit! Highly recommend this place! read more

Came for breakfast during the week with my dad on Wednesday last week had the day off after a late flight. Forgot how much I love Geraldine's. They're like a well oiled machine service and food is always consistently spot on! Their service has always been friendly and quick even when they're busy. Sooo much easier getting a table on a weekday morning we even tried going at 8:30am on a weekend before and still had to wait a little. This day the french toast was exceptionally delicious, I think it's probably the only place I actually order french toast. All around good food - I had the peach coffee cake and chicken pot pie, along with a freshly squeezed orange juice I was told came from Pike's Place. LOVED the coffee cake - its consistency is more like corn bread, so it's not too sweet, and I highly suggest topping it with jam for best taste. The chicken pot pie tasted pretty good - like the other reviews have mentioned, it's more a chicken soup + biscuit combo. The chicken was grilled nicely and added a delicious flavor to the dish. Overall very filling and I felt pleased with the meal. Definitely aim to get here earlier especially if you're going over the weekend! We got here at 11 and weren't seated till 11:45. read more

I've heard recommendations about Geraldine's as a great brunch place for years, and we finally got to taste it for ourselves recently. Maybe my expectations became too high after all the talk, but my experience here didn't live up to the hype. We ordered the famous French toast with apple slices topping and maple syrup, and a daily special of scrambled eggs with chorizo/green peppers/tomatoes. The French toast was definitely "well" toasted - too much so that the hard texture made it difficult to cut even with a knife. There wasn't anything special about the taste itself and the syrup was average as well. The daily special was pretty good - it tasted as one would expect eggs with chorizo/green peppers/tomatoes scrambled together would taste. Pros: The atmosphere was casual & lively. The staff members were all super friendly, and we were seated very quickly despite the packed restaurant. Cons: Too hard french toast. Food tastes so-so. read more

Good coffee and that really sums it up. Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. The gravy and two stacked pieces of chicken fried steak just didn't go well together. The gravy was a bit watery with ground beef (?) cooked in it. I don't think that gravy should be eaten with anything. Eggs and hash browns were so-so with a piece of watermelon and an orange slice. Corned Beef Hash. Asked for onions to be added. The corned beef chunks were quite tender and enjoyable, however the rest of the dish (a la potatoes) really didn't mesh with the beef. The dish came with eggs, an English muffin and again the piece of watermelon and an orange slice. The decor is colorful and bright with friendly waitstaff. The prices for the above are much higher than I would like to pay for an average breakfast as I left unsatisfied and pretty much unhappy. read more

Daaaamn Geraldine's, I don't know how you do what you do. But I'm hooked on you. First off, this place is SUPER cute. Brick walls. Cute lantern style lighting. Bright, open space. What the hell isn't to love? All the employees are super nice. The lady that greeted us may or may not be the owner/manager. Did I meet Geraldine herself and walk away without an autograph? I may need to go back. Our waiter was super nice too! The food. Ooo, the food. I had the Country Fried Steak because that's ALWAYS my determining factor when it comes to deciding if a breakfast place is good or not. The gravy was different from anywhere that I've had really, but in a good way. Hashbrowns were nice and crispy, and the eggs were good (but not as cheesy as I wanted them to be). The mac and cheese was BOMB too. So flavorful. So yum. So baked. Strong mimosas, too. Haaail yeah. While everything was all good and grand, I feel that it was slightly expensive. $85 for three people - only one of our drinks was alcoholic... Meehhh. Maybe I'm just cheap. Who knows. Grilled cheese. Tomato soup. Huckleberry soda. Geraldine's, can I just move in? I so very rarely make the trip to Geraldine's in Columbia City because I am a crotchety old lady and do not like to wait and be in crowds. However, I think the amount of business here is all you need to know about how delicious it is. This place has the feeling of a down-home divey cafe with all the modern perks. I love that the menu has all the staple comfort foods. Pretty much everything I have seen come out of the kitchen looks absolutely delicious. And the fact that they have tasty strawberry lemonade and huckleberry soda just makes me smile. Corned beef hash? Amazing! The grilled cheese is buttery, and the cheese just oozes out of the bread. It is perfectly paired with the cream of tomato and basil soup. If you get there early enough, try one of their fresh-baked goods warmed up as an appetizer for your meal. The gravy served with many of the breakfast dishes looks divine. Prices are very decent here, and if you know where to park, the parking is free. I would say the atmosphere is hipster during the weekend but locals during the week. There's a good vibe both from the customers and the staff. I love Geraldine's as a brunch place, but I have heard that the dinners are very good as well. I'm looking forward to trying it! read more

Summary: In an era where Millenials and Gen Z'ers flock to restaurants based on how Instagrammable the food and interior decor are (how the food actually tastes is just a superlative), Geraldine'is a throwback to no frills dining and soul refreshing food. Growing up my father (a foodie in his own right) always taught me to seek out long lines at restaurants because the lines would be a leading indicator of the quality of food. The longer the line, the better (in most cases, but with the advent of Instagram, now ya never know). And there is almost always a line outside Geraldine's, including the day I went. P.S., I went during peak brunch hours on a saturday and the wait time was only 30min. Upon entering the restaurant, I won't lie, I was a bit fearful that I was in store for greasy, diner food based on how diner-esque interior of the restaurant, but I shoved my Millenial privilege to the side and was determined to have an open mind. And from the moment my friend and I were seated, we were not disappointed. The service was absolutely perfect- our waitress was warm, engaging, and had the perfect balance of "not checking on us too much but also making us feel loved" kind of service ya feel (we've all been there on both ends of the spectrum). Anyways, I'm rambling and let's talk about the food because great service and a dining atmosphere without great food ain't enough to make me spend 20+ min writing this review. We ordered: 1. Peach French Toast $12 (5/5 Stars): This seasonal french toast was as the Gen Zer's say, LIT NO CAP. I'm personally a pancake kind of guy, but this french toast had me thinking about converting. The french toast has a carmelized, crunch exterior and a fluffy, warm inside. It wasn't too sweet and the peaches were a nice compliment. This is the best french toast I've had in Seattle so far! 2. Pancake of the Day, Buttermilk $10.5 (5/5 Stars): Now usually I like to get my money's worth with pancakes and spice it up with choco chips or blueberries- but the waitress sold me on the simple Buttermilk pancakes, and she was not playin! Each pancake was perfectly made- warm/fluffy with the perfect density and not too dry. There was also this amazing strawberry butter and the homemade syrup was on point. 3. Emerald City Scramble $13.5 (5/5 Stars): People ask me whether I'm a savory or sweet brunch guy, and I always respond with I gotta have both, especially when I'm out to eat. Now I normally don't get scrambles because in my experience, there's usually about two eggs worth of scrambles and I'm like I can get 24 eggs at Costco for $4 and this scramble is gonna cost me over $10? Nah! But this scramble was the best scramble I've had. The hashbrowns are perfectly cooked with the eggs and the combined with the spinach, pork sausage, pepper jack, it absolutely melted in my mouth. Plus I think they might have used 3 eggs lol. So clearly I'm a fan, and highly encourage anyone and everyone to show some local business love to this amazing establishment. I will be back! Tip: There's free parking in the neighborhoods nearby and plenty of small shops to and coffee joints around to pass the time if you're on a waitlist! read more

Really delicious breakfast/brunch any day of the week, any time they are open! Be ready to brave a line if you go at a regular brunch time on the weekend! I had wanted to check out Geraldine's after driving by and seeing the long line. If people are willing to wait hours for brunch, it better be good! I tried to avoid the line and went around 2:30pm on a Sunday for a late lunch. We were seated for 2 at a table without any wait. The restaurant was still full of patrons even by closing time at 3pm. Corned beef hash is my go to for brunch, and theirs did not disappoint. The beef chunks were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with good flavor and mixed with enough veggies to trick me into thinking it was a healthy brunch option. Not that we tried to be healthy--we ordered the tator tots side which is a MUST if you like tator tots...wonderfully crispy and hot! The one disappointment, unfortunately, was their famous french toast. I did like how crispy it was (what crazy person likes floppy french toast), but the pieces were thin and didn't have the decadent, chewy inside that I was hoping for. Might just be a personal preference though, as I see many other reviewers have raved about the same dish. Definitely a place I'll come back to, hopefully later in the day or on a weekday to avoid a long line. Hope to try their pancakes soon as a sweet alternative to the french toast for me. Yum! read more

I LOVE their breakfast. It's amazing. I pretty much always get the bacon + arugula + egg sandwich. The only bad experience was one time when the arugula was a little too old so I picked it out. I was there last week and the hashbrowns are PHENOMENAL! (The wait on a Sunday morning was about 30 minutes, but the breakfast definitely is what makes their rating so high for me.) The chili and tomato basil soup were awesome for small meals during lunch or dinner-time. Service: I've gotten good service and pretty bad service. The worst was when I went in for a burger with a friend and we sat at the bar. She asked for some avocado on her burger and they completely forgot and the cook made some lame comment about how he got "distracted" because some pretty girl walked by outside before handing her a small plate of avocado. That's nice.... please focus on your job, though. read more
