GenuWine is such a cute place! Tucked away in DT PHX, you'll have to find street parking or park in paid lot across the street. It's very close to the light rail too, if that's your jam. This place puts on so many activities, including a wine club, book club and wine tasting nights. There are also happy hour specials and all day happy hour on Tuesdays! My friend and I came here on a Thursday evening and took advantage of the happy hour deals! The wine is self serve and you can choose from a sample, half or full pour! I tried a few different red wines and they were all good. We also ordered the spinach and artichoke dip which was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!!!! Warm and flavorful, served with carrots, pretzels and pita bread, I highly, HIGHLY recommend this if you like spinach and artichoke dip! The pesto pizza was also awesome too! I think there was an event going on that evening because a lot of tables were reserved, and it was very busy, but the staff working were all very nice and helpful! Great little spot! I popped in for an event, otherwise may never have found myself wandering in, especially given distance from home and the parking situation. Once inside, I chilled at the bar getting some work done over some sips. I ordered a cheese board with Aged White Cheddar and Brie and both were exquisite! They had the perfect kick, leaving me wanting more! I got them with the soft pita bread and honey, which were perfect compliments and a great snack! Be warned about location and parking. It's a little hard to find if you're using navigation apps. Several were wandering around the building until they found the door, which is around the side of the building. There is a parking lot across the street. If you're lucky, you'll smell the deliciousness of the nearby food truck adjacent to the parking lot, playing Reggaeton music outside! A great little spot away from the downtown crowds. If I lived in the area, I'd be walking there frequently. They host a lot of events to keep people coming back - happy hours, trivia, cards nights, live music, etc. What really keeps thirsty people returning is the self-serve wine machine and rotating options. Its fun to be able to pick and choose small samples instead of committing to one full glass at a time. to In addition, they have craft beers and ciders available too (in cans, no taps). Small light bites menu complements the drinks. Definitely a good happy hour spot if you don't have a large group. Space is precious here, the largest table fits maybe 8 adults. If you're able to remote work, they offer free wifi too. This place is so cute and fun to hang at. I only tried a few of the white wines and they were all pretty good. The only thing I would have liked is if the wines were clearly marked as to what time of wine they were because it's really only separated by whites, reds, and sweets. But some whites can be sweet so to avoid that, clear labeling would be helpful. Service was good. The woman working when we first got there took the time to show us how it works since it was our first time visiting. There is also a large sign above the wines that explains how to do it. So excited to have FINALLY made it to GenuWine! I've been following them on social media since they opened but never made the long trip downtown. It definitely lived up to my expectations! I love the self-serve wine option. I was surprised to see a smaller selection of AZ wine than I expected, but I also understand many of the wineries have limitations on production. The wine dispenser machines are separated for white, rosé, and red wine with prices listed depending on ounces poured. Super easy process and great wines available! My husband ended up getting beer when he saw the massive selection of canned beer available. He said the Irish stout he drank was super good. Staff was super courteous and inviting! There is a small garage where they do validate parking. They explained how everything worked when we got there and it was all very simple. They provide you a card to use at their wine machines and you pour as you please. They have three different pour sizes so you can get a taste of a few or get a full glass of something specific you want. We ordered a few items to eat as well, a cheese board, the spinach dip, marinara flatbread and pretzel balls. All super yummy and great finger food to have with a group of people. You hand the worker your card or an ID (such as you would starting a tab), then you are assigned a new card and number. You use the card to buy wine pours through a machine, all self serve! The vibe of this little spot was very relaxing and still fun. For a Saturday night it stayed steadily slow and chill. They offer a rack of board games that you can play and there are many options! The food is all little snack stuff, aside from personal pizzas. It was very tasty and you get a lot for what you're paying. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that they only offered one sweet wine. Everything else was semi sweet and dry as it was mostly reds. The vending machines could dispense a tasting, half or full glass of each wine at various price tiers, with the lowest tier price being in the $1.75-$2 range. We also got to customize and order a cheese board with various meats and dips, which was delicious! There was plenty of seating areas, along with a good-sized library of board games and card games to play with your guests. We could easily have spent the whole afternoon here. I was really excited about this place, but was greatly let down. It's a self-service model for wine, which is convenient, but then you're supposed to tip 20% to serve yourself? I went on a Wednesday, and wanted the "bottle and pizza for $20" deal. It turned out the "bottle" was either a specific Chardonnay or Red. I asked to taste the Chardonnay but they didn't have any open to try first. I ended up opting for wine by the glass. The largest size glass is only 5 oz. but costs $10-11. I ordered a flatbread pizza and it was very small and was very thin, like a soft Ritz cracker. I initially sat at the bar, but as a bigger girl I found the bar stools to be very small and uncomfortable. I moved to an arm chair once it opened up. I think this place was overpriced for what you get. I do not recommend it. read more
