I'm a little biased towards Gentle Monster towards my selection of glasses, but that's because they offer something I find unique in the optical space which is shape, storytelling, and craft. This South Korean powerhouse puts out some really interesting and unique collections, such as the recent botanical collection, jewelry collections, and have major collaborations with artists such as Jennie, fashion houses like Maison Margiela, and more. This is one of two physical locations in California at the moment, and walking in feels like visiting an art exhibit. Each location is unique, and I feel that the installment at the South Coast location is fairly interesting. There's always a ton of different collections out on display that you can try on, and workers all around if you have questions. From my experience, they've always been kind and helpful, and you can always be in touch with a sales associate if a particular frame is sold out and you want to stay updated when they get one in stock! You can always come in whenever you want as well to get your frames adjusted which is convenient, as sometimes mine would get loose and I can just come in and be serviced. While the price may seem high, I believe that the quality of every frame is high up there, added with service and uniqueness, it all is a worth while investment and small luxury upgrade. read more

As seen in my photos, the art pieces are VERY interesting! But you're here for the glasses. The first time I was here was when Jennie of Blackpink did her collab with GM and it was crazy. I bought my first Gentlemonster sunglasses, now I can be LIKE JENNIE JENNIE JENNIE! Been curious about Gentlemonster frames since their collaboration with Blackpink Jennie. The Glitz frame caught my eye the first time I looked at their website. It looked more gorgeous in person! The store is stylish and many of their glasses are in display. You can try as many as you choose. I had fun trying them on especially the "sold out" glasses bijou de 02 and briolette 02 when it was in stock here last week. Once you're ready, you tell a staff and they give you a card and you pick the new one up at check out. The check out was a bit of a wait since they also do the fit adjustments then and there. The only thing i think they can do better is the glasses cases that come with the glasses. The shape of the case looks cool, but too big to put into the purse. The glasses are around $250-$500. (Definitely was a little a little intimidating for our first time but Tai helped make the experience a fun and memorable one). Ultimately we ended up landing on their melrose frames in black! The warranty along with the unlimited adjustments at any location make the price a bit more worth it. I went to look for glasses and sunglasses. I just wanted to see the new styles. I had a lot of questions abt many glasses. I just want to say that Brandon (I hope I remember his name correctly, he was wearing green Evan's) was a great salesperson. Every question I had, he had an answer. I went to him about 5 separate times and asked him questions. He was always professional and courteous. I asked about the differences between the new updated styles of sunglasses (new her) and he offered to bring out the original version to physically show me the differences. Came here a couple months ago took look for a pair of Alio frames, which I previously saw available in a different colorway online. After I was unable to locate them myself, I asked one of the attending workers who told me that the Alio frame was being discontinued. I found it odd that the online storefront stated that the Alios were to be restocked whilst this worker told me the complete opposite. Thankfully I waited for a couple weeks and lo and behold, the frames were restocked in the colorway I wanted online. If you don't know the answer to something, just say that lol. This is a cool store that sells really unique glasses and sunglasses. Some of the designs are bold with a loud personality! They have an optometrist on site so you can get prescription glasses and sunglasses. The store was really crowded when we went last Saturday and there wasn't enough staff to answer questions, which was a shame. My daughter has her eyes on a pair of jelly sunglasses and I have my eyes set on a pair of pink tinted sunglasses, so we'll have to come back when it's less crowded. The staff are honestly so clueless and incompetent. We came on Saturday morning and no one helped and just stared at us. None of the girls knew how to even check out so one guy was at the register trying to help everyone while the girls just stood there and stared. Then we were told he couldn't do our prescription in person and we would have to order online. We came back after getting our glasses online for a free adjustment at a flagship store as advertised and we were told they legally couldn't touch the glasses and fix it because they didn't have an optician anymore! One in DTLA and one here. Immediately when you walk in you'll notice the interesting layout and design of the store. There are plenty of different sunglasses for you to try on. Brandon is the nicest guy I ever met in Gentle Monster. I came to Gentle Monster today to fix my severely tilted glasses frame. I met with the manager first and the girl manager referred me to, told me to ship my glasses back to their lab for repair, which will take 1-2 weeks. In all fairness, they were afraid of possibly breaking the leg. The girl employee guided me to the counter and handed me over to a male associate to fill out the form and ship out the product. Welp!!! Guess what?? Repair is not free. It's 20% of whatever the originally cost of my glasses was. That's too much! So, I told him, let me think about it. BUT!!!!!!! Brandon (the male associate) asked if he's able to try and fix the glasses. He was apologetic for taking his time fixing the frame and we were like.... What?? Why?? Is this sweet guy apologizing? I'm really glad they finally opened up in Orange County because driving to LA was far and I was not too fond of the limited parking. I usually don't leave reviews for stores but I feel like this place deserves one in hopes of grabbing the management's attention. The staff was very friendly but I got annoyed by the number of times I was asked if I needed help. It seemed like they were really trying to push sales and that interrupted my shopping experience because I was just trying to comprehend the art space upon entering. Also, it looked like there were too many people inside because I waited about 10 minutes just to try on a pair. I wanted to try on more frames but the crowd was making me feel uncomfortable... Maybe having a line outside the store would help? Other surrounding stores had people queued in line. It's a given that once the space becomes close to full they should organize the traffic... Overall, I think this place has an outstanding delivery of frames. I know that the brand has a creative endeavor to experiment with innovative designs and technology but the retail experience felt similar to a cheap warehouse sale. If you've been to other Gentle Monster stores in Korea then you definitely need to have low expectations for this place. read more

Great store. Great glasses. Great employees. Great customer service. No optician. I bought frames here around last week and was informed I would need to get lenses somewhere else or drive to the gentle monster in Los Angeles. Hassle #1 but it's a bit understandable as I was told their optician had been promoted. After I had gotten my new lenses from a different place, I noticed the fit of my glasses to be a little different, so I went back to gentle monster take advantage of the lifetime adjustment thingy I was told came with my purchase. Unknown to me, they are no longer allowed to touch them because I got new lenses due to their lack of an optician. Pretty disappointing experience even when I asked if i could pop in the old non prescription lenses at home. They said it was too much of a liability. No blame at all to the employees there they were just doing their job and were all kind, helpful, and understanding. Arguably they were the only bright side to this entire ordeal. I was also told their earliest they would get a new optician is march of 2025. Overall pretty lame, but if you run into the same problem, go to costco! They wouldn't do my lenses there, but they will adjust any frames you bring them at no cost. They just say if anything breaks they're not responsible. Took 2 seconds and now my glasses fit perfectly! read more

I stopped by a week ago and purchased a pair of sunglasses. When I got home, I took them out one time to try them on again. The frames felt looser than ones I tried on in the store. (I was also told they should fit tighter since they are new). Even after multiple adjustments by the employee when I bought them, I didn't really feel like the employee did much because they still didn't fit the way I wanted them to. I stopped by to return them today and my experience was absurd. The manager had assumed I wore them out (I did not), said there were many scratches on the lens and asked why I didn't examine them when I got home. I asked to look at the scratches and he didn't let me. He refused to refund me even though I had stated multiple times that I only took them out once and they were in the case the entire time. He decided to provide me a refund since it was my first purchase with them but let me know that he put a note in the system that if I were to ever shop there again, my next purchase would be final sale. That's honestly okay because I don't plan on ever purchasing from them again anyways. read more

This is my first Yelp review and I rarely use Yelp. I wish I could put 0 stars. The experience I had alone was something worth writing about. Extremely unprofessional work environment. I came in a week ago on a Monday to check out some sunglasses in hopes of walking away with a pair. However, this was clearly not the case, shockingly one of your staff members I believe his name is Daniel (his co-worker called his name) was intentionally ignoring my presence as a customer. I loved the aesthetic of the store and the layout. Yet the same can't be said about the employees here. For a high-end luxury brand, I expected better treatment for the customers. Isn't the point of having a sunglasses store to drive sales instead of neglecting your customers? I came in asking Daniel for a certain pair and he said he would check in the back for me. Shortly after, I saw him again, talking to a female co-worker, and forgetting to follow up with me. I was waiting to see if he would still touch base with me but he continued talking to his co-worker who I assumed was his girlfriend from the way he was speaking and body language. You shouldn't be holding conversations with your co-workers when there are customers on the sales floor. I did not come to this establishment to get disrespected and my time wasted. I hope this is not how your employees are trained around customers. Mind you I am a manager at another high-end retail sunglasses store in New York.
