Awesome place! I went on a Saturday without planning for lunch. I never heard of this place before and I left amazed. I will definitely come back. The service was very good. They were very attentive and got our order just right! My friend complemented the shop sticks and the waiter got us 2 sets of their shop sticks. That was very nice of the waiter. They also didn't rush. We were able to eat at peace and stay for a bit after eating. I loved the ambiance. It's an excellent place if you want to do something intimate, the low light, soft music. It's a good place for big parties too. I noticed that they have some large table sittings on a side with curtains to diverse the big party from the rest. So if you need a quite place for a big party, this place could be perfect. The good was super delicious! The maki rolls were super big. The drinks that we got were very good as well. I used to frequent Genki in high school all the time! Nothing really changed, I just moved away. However, this was a friends choice for their birthday dinner, as he loves sushi. We ordered an array of sushi rolls which were all fresh and delicious. Gyoza was the same, both pan fried and steamed are as wonderful as ever. We were thankful that our waiter was wonderful, and accepted a cake we brought and even brought it out with a candle and sang, which we were not expecting. The prices vary, because the menu options vary. After all my experiences here, the food is usually great but I know the service can be inconsistent. Have ordered 3x via Uber Eats. Delivery can take a while (one time took nearly 2 hours so that wasn't the best and missing item). Great sushi for what I've tried thus far. Fresh and nicely packaged. I ordered takeout and it was good, but not great. I tried the spicy yellowtail roll, the Philadelphia roll, and the "fashion roll" which had eel, cream cheese and avocado. I appreciated that each roll was packaged separately to go, and the fish was incredibly fresh. The sushi itself was more sour/vinegar-y than I typically like... the flavor was just not quite there. Service for takeout was quick and friendly though - a nice stop after a busy day of shopping. The price was right - about $25 for all three rolls, and the location in Legacy Place is definitely convenient. read more

A pretty nice place for sushi in Legacy Place that's not too expensive and has a lot of variety. The first time I came here, I shared the Spicy combo and the Makimono combo with someone, which were each 24 pieces for $20.95 and also came with miso soup. The second time I tried the sushi lunch special, which had 5 pieces assorted sushi, 4 pieces salmon roll, and 4 pieces tuna roll for $13.45 with miso soup and salad. Fish seems pretty fresh, and there are also a bunch of vegetarian options on the menu as well. Service is pretty fast and they always refill your water quickly, which is nice. read more

I am sad to say but after the first try, I would honestly never going to come back here. The only reason I am giving two stars is because of fast service. Edamame was very plain, missing salt. The biggest dissapointment is their tempura. The dough did not have any crunchy feel to it , you could feel a taste of fried oil in both: sushi and appetizer (tempura covered veggies and shrimp). The volcano roll is AMAZING!!! It looks messy but actually tastes good. The sushi part is hidden under the tempura flakes. Throwing in the mushrooms and baked scallops, the tempura flakes couldn't taste any better. The spider roll and the scorpion roll are good choices for those who don't like to consume raw fish, despite of the names. I wish they could go easy with the eel sauce on the sushi though, hence the four star. Salmon soup is also pretty good, not too salty. read more

if I could give half a star, I would this place has gone downhill. We went last night after the Barbie movie I went with a dear friend, and my spouse was looking forward to eating sushi as soon as we got to the door, we proceeded to think it was closed, and they proceeded to seat us right away which made me a little suspicious because closing time was at 9:40 and it was going to be 9:45pm. at that time, I should've just proceeded to follow my instincts and walk over to Yard House next door. We sat down and waiter didn't even understand the menu. When I asked a few questions we ordered food. We got food so fast which made me think was pre made not fresh at all. food was tasteless and cold. Drinks were disgusting. At one point we heard one of the waiters or cooks make a hacking sound right in front of us and spit sputum right in the restaurant while we were there. That's unacceptable. And to make matters worse we were rushed, and once we got home, we got so sick started throwing up and had diarrhea. Never again we will set foot in that establishment again. We are foodies and never encountered such poor quality of food, and to top it off the waiter never came by to ask us how her our meals. Wow. read more

We just ordered here using Uber Eats. The food and maki rolls were made very well with fresh ingredients, but the sushi rice was borderline inedible. It tasted so strongly of vinegar and sugar. Just not good Sushi. I'm here traveling from a landlocked city and my expectations I suppose were just to high being close(ish) to the coast. The Volcano roll was the worst I've ever experienced (who puts mushrooms in a sushi roll!?). I know there isn't crab stick, but I never knew (until tonight) that there was scallop stick?? A friend of mine keeps telling me how great Genki is and how fresh their sushi is, so we decided to go for lunch on our day off. It was about 1:15pm, we had just left our yoga class so it was a little after the usual lunch time. The dining room was not too busy, maybe 6 tables with 2-3 patrons at each. We were sat in the middle of the restaurant, in a table for four. We were left with menus and decided on what we are getting. We probably waited about 5 to 10 mins until a waitress came by and dropped off 2 waters. We were just about to order and she started walking away, saying she'll be right back. We waited for another 15 minutes and still no one came by. My friend called over a waitress and she acknowledged us with her pointer finger, indicated for us to wait as she stroll passed us. By now, most of the tables that had come in after us were being served. We finally got a waitress to take our order and then our soups and salads came out fairly quick afterwards. Unfortunately, the waiting game continues. All we ordered were 2 to 3 maki rolls each so technically it shouldn't take that long. Again, people that came in after us have finished their meals at this point, and we still have not received our sushi. At 2pm we are still without our food. Just as we were going to grab the host (and I am assuming manager?), our food finally came out. My friend wasn't lying when she told me Genki is great. The sushi rolls were fresh and delicious. It was the only saving grace for my first time experience. The food can easily get 4 stars from me but the service was what left a bad taste in my mouth. Our water glasses were never filled since we sat down and had to ask the waitress to fill it. We then asked for the bill and the waitress left it on our table. At this point I was still working on my last two pieces of sushi. We figured that since everything else took so long, there was no rush to look at the bill. The funny thing is, the waitress came right back within a minute and grabbed the bill and started walking away. We had to call her back over and tell her we haven't even looked at it. Overall, food: 4 stars, service: 1 star. I hate to write it off completely because their food was delicious, but service is what makes up the dining experience. VERY pleasantly surprised! I got a hankering for sushi and didn't feel like going out to sit at a restaurant. My husband found this place, which isn't far from our house - and they deliver. We decided to give it a try and the food was better than expected! My sushi was fresh and tasty, and my husband got the beef negamaki and a chicken appetizer and he was happy with both as well. The place is beautiful and a lovely decorated space for an casual or romantic meal or special occasion. Unfortunately the food does NOT match. The photos in the menu were ghastly and unappetizing to begin with - I'm talking about photos that looked like sloppy chef work or even regurgitated pixelated piles of a past meal - but we figured it was just a poor photography choice and banked on the 4 star Yelp review. We were kind of glad to happen upon a 4 star Japanese place just by the Cinema. Now, not so much. The sashimi was cut too thick, not mouth size and a was bit too cold. The garnishes seemed dried and old. The rolls were nicely presented but there were not many options that didn't involve some sort of spicy fish (often minced older fish) or filler crab sticks. The sushi ala carte are very expensive for this level restaurant. Lastly, probably the worst Tomago/Egg Sushi I've ever had - it was weirdly hard and too sweet. Very nice service. Had high expectations for Genki based on the stellar reviews but they weren't met during my solo dining experience. The service was horrible, to say the least. My table was smack dab in the center of the restaurant--I requested a seat at the sushi bar but I was denied by the host who said "they were doing something." Once seated at the most awkward table in the restaurant, the waitress took ages to come me over, greet me and take my drink order. When she finally appeared, she dropped a glass of water down and disappeared again. The sushi was meh, I've had better from whole foods. The dumplings I ordered first weren't fried like I asked, but I was so hungry and I didn't know when I would see the server again so I ate them anyway. The ice cream was the best part of meal since my two rolls were boring and not that great. I can't even remember now which ones I ordered so that says something about the experience. Got take out from here seeing as a work next door. They have a two or three roll cash only special that is totally worth it. $11 for the two roll and $14.95 for the three roll. Lunch here was so delicious! Everything was very fresh and you could taste that all the ingredients were organic and healthy. Genki is a fantastic sushi joint, and there are a handful of locations around the Boston area. I'm reviewing the Dedham location. The sushi itself, whatever you choose, is fantastic. Whether you go for the rainbow roll or some hamachi sashimi, you will not be disappointed. Plus I am always amazed at the size of each roll and nigiri. They do not skimp. We've had Genki maybe a dozen times, but, perhaps best of all: only one of those times was at the restaurant itself. Yes...this is high end sushi that can be DELIVERED! Oh my poor wallet! And another added bonus: set up an online profile for delivery and you get reward points to be used for subsequent orders. Almost every time we get delivery now, we get 10% off. I will always be loyal to the sushi restaurant I used to frequent all the time when I lived a few towns away, but Genki has really come to be the standout near us, out of the 4-5 sushi places we've been to. Came in at 1pm on Friday. Two other tables, otherwise empty. The server sat us in the middle small table which is awkwardly situated and weird since it's empty. The restaurant is dark and feels depressing. Menus are old and have different prices for the same items. There are 9 people working that I can see. 4 at the sushi bar (which is empty) and four servers on the floor, but everyone seems to just be standing around talking to each other. We wait 30 minutes for our food even though the place is empty. There are 9 people working on 3 tables and we waited 30 minutes for two bowls of noodles Our noodles were over cooked and disintegrated and the soup in one of the noodles had been absorbed by the time they came out.
