Not sure where to begin. Long review but please read it. First time there but have gone to countless sushi restaurants without such dissatisfaction. We have literally been working in restaurants for over 20 years and lived in the Boston area for over 40 and have never once taken the time to provide a negative review. We arrived and there were 4 tables occupied and 3 servers. I could on about the details, but lets say the service was horrible, nobody smiled or acknowledged us for about 10 minutes. Then someone said follow me and they literally dropped two menus in front of us and said "here you go" without breaking pace of there speed walk, then walked away. We tried multiple times with one of the 3 servers to order a couple of drinks but they would not give any eye contact. They returned a few minutes later and we ordered sashimi appetizer, volcano, genki delight and spicy tuna salad with some saki. The food arrived fairly quickly and before the saki which made us concerned since saki takes 3 minutes and a good sushi chef would take maybe 5 to 8 minutes. The food actually looked delicious and was fresh but had almost no taste. We requested extra wasabi and after a lengthy wait, we had to flag down the busser. As we ate the food we counted no less than 12 fruit flies circling the food and between bites constantly waving them away. Now I understand these flies being near a bar, near fresh uncovered fruit as they linger towards sweet aromas, but I have never seen anything like it in a sushi place. We finished the food, saki and then again waited 27 minutes for the check but not even a "how is everything". We looked towards the sushi bar and the entire staff was sitting and eating. Again, I understand people, food, hunger, time to eat, but they ignored us yet on two occasions, someone walked in to pick up some take out and they ran to the door. Once we got the check, we noticed that all 5 items on the bill were between $2.50 and $3.50 higher than the menu on the table and online stated. We waited until the server returned and asked why, she said prices have gone up and we haven't changed the menu. We understand costs, but to not tell the patron and hope that they don't see the discrepancy is completely wrong. Now first of all, the prices were already reasonable so any increase would have been just fine, but the dishonesty of the restaurant, the server making no apology or attempt to give a resolution is just infuriating. After explaining the "bait and switch", we even gave her the out and said, we know it is not your fault, but the owner needs to correct this as it is dishonest and it makes you look like very bad. She just smiled uncomfortably and said she would talk to the owner the next day - 99% of the food establishments do something, a comp, drink, next time free appetizer etc. It is not about the money, it is the action that they take for the dishonesty and embarrassing service they provided. We have both currently work hotel and food establishments in Boston and have been doing so for half of our lives and this is not how you treat a customer. So long winded story, but one that needs to be told due to complete unprofessionalism and dishonesty. Poor service when the place is empty with ample servers, average food that looked picture perfect, but would send back after the amount of flies circling, then the dagger where they don't honor any prices in the menu, give inflated prices without any warning, then don't even try to apologize when they are caught with false advertising. Such a disappointment. I feel bad for the servers, sushi chefs etc. Management and ownership should be ashamed of themselves for false advertising and such an unclean atmosphere. Needless to say, we still gave the server her 20% tip which is what we always want to do, but she is going to lose so many customers when they see what is going on in this place and it is not fair to her. read more
