I had a wonderful experience here! My friend and I were shopping at Legacy when we got hungry, so we decided to try out Mecha since I've heard great things about it. The inside was very clean, nicely decorated, and had a small bar area. They also have a good variety of dishes on the menu. Our waiter, Ken, was absolutely amazing. He helped us out with our menus when ordering and suggested some new drinks that weren't listed. When I couldn't decide which drink to get, I told him to surprise me. To my surprise, he brought out all three drinks and gave us the last one for free, which I really appreciated. My friend and I both agreed that our favorite was the Pandan flavor which paired rlly nicely with the vietnamese coffee. Our second favorite was the Coconut, which had coconut slushy on top of the vietnamese coffee. Lastly, the Ube was still delicious, but we liked the other two a little more. I also really enjoyed both the appetizers, they were packed with flavor. The firecracker wings had a spicy tangy dry rub that tasted amazing, but be warned, they were a little spicy but super addicting. The dumplings were also rlly delicious and drenched in this flavorful chili oil. The ramen was amazing as well. The broth was rich, and the bowl came with a generous amount of toppings that worked rlly well together. During the spring, I tried this ramen shop at Legacy Place. I got the korean fried chicken bao, smash burger bao and the chicken laksa. The fried chicken bao came with fried chicken, gochujang, pickled daikon and carrots and kewpie mayo. The burger bao came with a smashed beef patty, cheese, and bacon jam. Both baos were fluffy and delicious. On the other hand, the curry laksa came with chicken, fried tofu, mushrooms and greens. The coconut broth was spicy but also a bit sour and tangy for my taste. Let me start with this. The staff? Excellent. Really good. Friendly, attentive, respectful. They check on you, they help you out, they make you feel welcome. That part, no complaints at all. Top notch service. Now the food. Very flavorful. A lot going on, in a good way. But I'll tell you right now, it's got a kick. Not a little kick..a real one. If you don't like spice, you might be in trouble . If you do, you'll enjoy it. We tried the KFC Bao, General TSO's Shrimp, Laos Crispy Pork, and a cheeseburger bao kids meal. The flavors are there. You can tell they care about how the food tastes. But here's where I have to be honest. The "share" plates? Not share plates. No way. These are single portions. Calling them shareable is a stretch. Big stretch. You're basically ordering individual meals, so just be ready for that. Pricing is questionable for these "shared" plates as well. Let's talk price. Two "share" plates, one KFC bao, a kids meal, 3 cans of soda, 1 non-alcoholic drink, and we're at $107 with tip. That's a little high for what you're getting, especially when the portions aren't really built to share like advertised. Overall? Good spot. Strong flavors, great service, solid vibe. Just go in knowing it's spicy, portions are smaller than expected for "sharing," and the bill adds up quick. Would I go back? Sure. Ima start by saying that, as an Asian, I'm glad that Asian cuisines have finally made it to mainstream food scene and are no longer seen as some cheap eats that one can only get from a back alley in the seedy part of town. What I appreciate is that Mecha offers various Asian culinary profiles from Japan (ramen) and Korea (gojujang pork belly bun) to Vietname (pho), Malaysia, and Singapore (Laksa). The place has a happening vibe - bright colors, clean design, upbeat music. Onto food - I can imagine the Tomahawk pho would be epic for Insta, but I would personally prefer the humble version of pho with solid broth and herbs. So of course we didn't order that, esp at that price point. We got a couple apps, two ramens, and a Laska; can't say that I was wowed in any sense. The pork belly bun came in one piece at $8, a bit overpriced, honestly. Ramen was ok, just nothing to write home about. Laska was kinda weird in the sense that the mushrooms were literally thrown in there el fresco, not even a quick blanch. To the point, I have not had raw mushroom in Laksa in Asia, the few places that I've been. Even other fixings in that Laksa seem like they just got thrown in there; there was no "marriage" in there. Ramens were ok in terms of noodle quality and broth, but part of the grievance is that there wasn't a meat/broth combo that jumped at me. The broth I like only came with chicken, and the pork chasiu only came with spicy broth. Out of all things, though, the pre-marinated chicken meat was the highlight - flavorful, tender, and not-dry. Price point is on par with what's in the area, and I appreciate that they had a liquor license so things can get interesting later at night. Mecha seems positions itself more as a "fun place to hang" with some Asian options for food. While the meal itself was not bad, I would have to admit that, as a former "FOB" (aka immigrant), I am not their target customer (and that's ok!). Personally, I would be unlikely to return "just to eat", because I know where to go for food with less fluff and more substance. read more

Some of the best ramen we've had outside of Japan and San Francisco. The manager, Baron (hoping that's spelled right) was incredible. He was informative, kind and proud of their work. After a day of tough news, the kindness extended was truly the "warm hug" we needed. Comfort food at its finest, yet beautifully elevated without being stuffy. It's rare to find a spot that serves pho and ramen. This spot was a crowd pleaser. We both ate pho. I ordered the pho ga with extra greens ($3) and tofu ($2). I only received one small bok choi for my extra greens, so I took away a star. For that price I'd expect at least 2-3 bok choi. When I didn't make it to the end of my dish, the waiter thoughtfully packed it up for me separating the broth from the rice noodles. read more

Friendly service and great vibes - a good spot for shoppers to stop by for a quick bite. Overall food is just okay for what it is. They offer two noodle types: pho and ramen. Their pho is fine but soup is a bit bland. Their meatballs don't hit the same as other Vietnamese places which was disappointing. I added an additional item which was a mistake because I didn't get much but the bowl itself did fill me up so I probably won't add any extras next time. Mecha at Legacy Place is fantastic. The location is great, the food is consistently delicious, and the service truly stands out. Manager Baron runs a wonderful operation--professional, warm, and attentive. Our server Nini was absolutely the best. My son has a disability, and she was incredibly kind and observant--helping us hang our jackets, checking in thoughtfully, and making us feel genuinely cared for. That level of attentiveness means so much to our family. The food was amazing. Highly recommend the Pho King, egg rolls, kale salad, Vietnamese coffee, and don't skip dessert--the ube dessert is a must. A place that delivers great food and true hospitality. Food is good, but pretty over priced. Portions are small; the bao is particularly bad. There's usually a wait, place tends to be over crowded, with not a comfortable amount of space between tables. Service is bad. Food is slow. Wait staff is discombobulated. I've done both take out and sit in, and there was some tip chicanery with missing order stuff not being closed. I have been to mecha numerous times and adore the food and friendly staff. My favorite is the curry laksa with chicken and I like to add an egg, it's fantastic. My sister always orders the pho, chicken or beef depending on the day, and loves it as well. The appetizers we have had are also very good, both the mushroom and red oil dumplings. The general tso's shrimp is also very good. I have only two complaints. One is that they recently took off my favorite drink, which is sad but I can live with. The second is the reason i'm writing this review. The seating situation is awful. Ninety percent of the seating are these small stools with no backs, and the rest of the table is booths. I like the booths, but if you are with another person atleast one of you is going to have to sit on the stool. There have been a few times where i've come during lunch on a week day and been able to sit 2 people at a 4 person both sitting at the booth, but that's still not ideal and wouldn't be able to accommodate a third person. I find the stools incredibly uncomfortable. There have been numerous times i've wanted to go to Mecha but haven't because of the seating situation. I haven't even brought my mom to this resturant despite really wanting to because she is disabled and would not be able to sit in those seats let alone comfortably. I am begging for this resturant to replace the stools with real chairs. read more

Skip this place. Deceptive BEFORE THEY EVEN OPENED! Told people to secure tickets online for their grand opening to ensure they'd be one of the first 100 customers and get a gift card. But it turns out the tickets mean nothing so people who would have otherwise showed up sooner won't get anything. Greeted with a big smile and enthusiasm. We ordered one of each ($7.00 each) KFC (korean fried chicken) and SMASH BURGER. KFC had a big piece of fried chicken so I just folded into the bun. Both had gave a punch in flavor. For drinks we ordered, TEMPLE OF THE SUN african nectar tea, pineapple, passionfruit with plenty of boba $7 and a diet soda $5. I thought it would be a bit sweeter but seemed tart to me. I still enjoyed it. I asked for lemon and on the third person, I got it. For lunch we each got, PHO BO'- triple beef pho braised brisket, rare beef, roasted bone marrow and the SPICY MISO 2.0 -red miso, pork belly, braised greens, bean sprouts. Wished it had more flavor in the broth. Lots of meat in the Pho Bo but could have had the brisket half the size and having to use my fingers to tear it apart. The Spicy miso noddles were cooked perfectly, only thing missing no egg and needed more beef flavor. The music was tad loud and not fitting the atmosphere which maybe it was to fit the area it was they were in. And leaving it was just as kind when we left. read more

I don't often post restaurant reviews, but I'm rooting for this restaurant in Legacy Place! (I haven't been to the Brookline location.) My ten-year old daughter and I went after the movies and what I expected to be more of a quick takeout spot turned out to have an unexpectedly sophisticated, relaxed upscale-casual atmosphere. It's comfortable enough to sit and unwind, with a full bar and specialty cocktails, but still feels easy and convenient. My daughter and I both had a fun mother-daughter experience together, but there was also a group of young adults sharing drinks and dinner nearby, which made it clear this is a flexible spot -- good for families, date nights, or a casual night out with friends. My daughter ordered the Pho Ga (chicken slices, "hangover cure," with recommended add-ons: greens & tofu) and had plenty left to bring home. I had the Curry Laksa ramen (spicy coconut curry broth, basil oil, fried tofu, mushrooms, chicken, greens). It was excellent -- I thought the ingredients were high quality with just the right level of heat. I tend to prefer mild to medium spice, and this had a nice zing without being overwhelming. We also tried the garlic edamame, which I'd never had prepared that way before -- I really like it. While it's perfect for a pleasant sit-down meal, it also seems like a great option for high-quality takeout. In fact, it's a couple of weeks since my visit with my daughter and I'm already planning to grab takeout when picking up my daughter and her friends from the movies tonight. I'm especially rooting for this place because I'd hate to lose it. It's unfortunate that a single one-star review affected their rating so much, particularly when the issue seemed related more to an advertising service than the restaurant itself.
