Genki is a stunningly executed sushi restaurant in Legacy Place, and quite frankly the best quality food in the plaza. If you're with a group that enjoys sushi I can not recommend this place enough. We started with some fried pork gyoza and moved onto two simple rolls and two specialty rolls. The specialty rolls we order came out pleasantly warm and practically melted in our mouths, while the Smoked Salmon rolls we order were some of the best I've had in a while. While prices aren't cheap, they're fair for sushi and considering the locale I may even say priced at a bargain, we certainly would have spent more at some of the surrounding eateries! Overall I highly recommend this place, though it isn't overly large so I would recommend checking in early! They have a sign up waiting list on the wall near the entrance if you run into a packed restaurant don't forget to add your party! read more

Nice ambiance, sushi is fresh, cooked food have eaten here a number of times and the food is consistent and great!

When I saw the sign, Genki, I thought that it was Genki sushi, which is a sushi chain that serves conveyor belt sushi. I stepped in and realized that there was no conveyor belt sushi, and that this restaurant was not part of the chain. Anyways, I decided to give it a try. The service was quick and efficient. I ordered the sushi dinner set which included several pieces of nigiri sushi, as well as a california roll and spicy roll. The sushi was delicious and filling. I also had the beef negimaki as an appetizer, it was good. Not a bad place to grab sushi. They have lots of options for different rolls too.. boston roll, rainbow roll, healthy roll etc. read more

Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. We ordered the three rolls Maki lunch special. I had mushroom tempura roll, spicy tuna and spicy yellowtail. Wife had unagi roll, California/shrimp roll and spicy yellowtail. Each meal came with a small salad and a bowl of miso soup. Miso was really good, had straw mushrooms and green onions. Salad was fine, but too much dressing. Sushi was good. The mushroom tempura was just sliced mushroom, no tempura batter as far as we can tell. Other sushi was typical. Filling and quiet setting. Nice staff, had to ask for a green tea refill. Atmosphere was fine. The restaurant needs to clean up the hallway leading to the restrooms, lots of stuff in the hallway. read more

Fairly-priced sushi with friendly waiters and plenty of parking? Count me in! Their selection of sushi is HUGE! AND!!! They have VEGETARIAN OPTIONS! I'm not talking about just miso soup and and some edamame, but they have rolls that are veggie friendly!! I love this spot. Plus, you can walk around the shops at Legacy Place to work out all of the sushi you've just eaten. read more

The hostess is extremely rude. Went in there to order food for my daughter who has a dairy, soy and shellfish allergy. Her favorite food is sushi. I told the hostess about my allergy and she replied "okay so no soy sauce." I replied "it's a contact allergy, so it's much more than that." She was visibly frustrated. Then a man came out and basically told us we couldn't order. We have never had a sushi place turn us away. They did. It would have been easy enough to wipe down the area and take care. Their actions showed that they are not serious about customer allergies and they are not accommodating. We won't be going back. read more

I was surprised at how bad the service and the food was. The place smelled like bleach which is not a good sign when going to eat raw fish. The waitress stood around watching us eat, and whispering. The food was subpar nothing to brag about. No taste and bland. read more

Pretty good here if you're local or in the area! Pros: - lighting is great - lots of seating and high ceilings - quick service - massive portions - good quality sushi Cons: - none! read more

Not really sure how some people consider this acceptable Japanese food - tastes more like poor imitation Japanese from your typical Chinese restaurant. Ordered nabeyaki udon from ubereats as well as the karaage chicken. Thin of the thinnest slices of chicken that are cheaply breaded and chewy - that was the karaage. Probably the worst I've ever had. Do not recommend. And the nabeyaki udon was super salty, barely any veggies or mushrooms (2). Tons of noodles. 25 dollars a bowl for that. Egg was overcooked. No way. You're better off traversing into Boston. I'm sure the people are nice, but the food barely passes as edible, and for sure isn't Japanese. read more

If I could give a minus i would. We were there at night after a movie looking forward for dinner. We were seated everything was fine. Until we were last to leave as were seated kind of late. We were finishing our meal but the waiter hacked a looey omg I wanted to be sick. Clearly he knew we were still there.we were the only ones with another people in another table. I was eating g my udon, I nearly got sick on the spot. I have never been sooo discussed. He knew and saw we were there. The lady was also rushing us with our food the bill and our drinks. We have been there before no problem. This time however would be the last. The waiter hawking a looey in the place people dine was a done deal. Never again. My mom wanted to go here for her birthday I called her to tell her sorry I won't be bringing her here. Sooo freaking gross. I don't know what ever happened to the integrity of this place. Maybe down the floor with that disgusting hawcking. Simply a health hazard if this is what happens while you are dinning I can just imagine in the kitchen. The waiter didn't even ask us how wasvthe food, I guess he was too busy hawking ewwww. read more

We went her impromptu on a weeknight, the place was not so busy and were seated right away. The ambience is great and liked the decor a lot. We ordered edamame, Scorpion roll, torch roll, rainbow roll and rich salmon roll. All the food arrived at the same time and it was delicious. Scorpion roll was my least favorite, the eel was a bit chewy. I know not to order it the next time. Not a huge fan of spicy mayo on sushi and they had plenty of options for me. The servers were polite, attentive and we had a nice dining experience. We are very likely to go back. read more

I did take-out so I'm only commenting on the food. My favorite was the one on the left which I can't remember which roll it was. I definitely would order from them again read more

Great service and delicious food! Sushi is typically expensive but I found the prices to be reasonable.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to write this as we are big Genki fans. We have had good experiences at this location as well, but we are done. Food is generally great, no issues. I think its a great sushi/Japanese chain locally and they never disappoint. We have always had fresh sushi here and they had great items on the menu. Our waitress was also great, she was helpful and ended up giving us a discount for our frustrations. We have always had good service here as well. The reason for the poor review is solely based on the host during a lunch date we had on friday. He had been clipping his nails and when we asked to stop, he continued to do so. We lost our appetite quickly and were really disappointed. Our waitress gave us a discount which was a nice gesture but we won't be coming back to this location ever again. Very gross. read more

I like the atmosphere inside, and the staff is friendly. The sushi is always solid. Try the agedeshi tofu.

Just good sushi takeout. The menu has a good selection and everything e guy ordered was great and fresh. This will be our staple sushi spot

This is my favorite restaurant chain for sushi in Mass! I religiously eat at their Brookline location, but when I heard they were opening a location in the beautiful Legacy Place in Dedham, I had to try it. The food is still amazing as it is in Brookline. But the location is much larger and very modern looking. Its in a great area of Legacy Place, right next to the movie theater (perfect for dinner and movie). I had the makimono combo which is 24 pieces of various sushi with a miso soup for only $19.99! The sushi is always made fresh and delicious. The service is quick and pleasant. Literally in and out in about 35 minutes. Still the best sushi around! If you haven't tried this place, I highly recommend it! read more

Genki Ya - Spicy Tuna Tempora Roll, Shrimp Tempora Roll, and Crazy Roll - Sushi Bars Near Me - Dedham, Massachusetts

Not very good place... we came here for the second time and will probably not come back. We came in at around 4PM on a Wednesday and the restaurant was pretty much empty, except for 2 other people, yet it still took 10 mins to get seated. The workers were not attentive, so the only 2 people sitting there had to get their attention. Finally got seated and ordered California Roll, Caterpillar Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll and Ikura Sushi. The California roll was huge with too much rice. The caterpillar roll was even bigger, yet it had almost no eel in it. The spicy tuna roll was ice cold and the Ikura sushi's fish eggs were saltier then the ocean they were obtained from. Overpriced sushi to be honest, will not be coming back. read more

We stopped by for dinner before going to the movies. Love the restaurant décor and ambiance - intimate yet inviting. Server was prompt to greet and to take our drink order. The menu was mostly pictorial so it was easy to navigate on what to order. We opted on the following: Salmon sashimi x 2 Sashimi and sushi combo Spicy triple maki combo - spicy tuna, spicy salmon and spicy yellowtail The sashimi items were super fresh and great quality. As for the maki rolls - the rice was overly drenched in vinegar - oh what a waste to the fish. Note for next time. read more

Came here on a weeknight right after thanksgiving and this place was empty besides two or three tables! We started with pork dumplings which were delicious! My husband an I split a total of 5 rolls. Our favorites were the spicy salmon roll and the volcano one! You could definitely tell the fish was super fresh! And the quality of the other ingredients was good as well! They have other locations it seems so may have to give them a try! read more

Two stars only for the food. -3 for the service. We got two unaju which come with a green tea. We tried their attention multiple times but to no avail, we get ignored. And then, both me and my boyfriend raised our hands to get service and we were ignored the whole tome. Especially the middle aged woman waitress. I know for a fact I locked eyes with her and she helped her guests only, then walked away. We never shouted for service as we try to be respectful for the guests next to us, but it took 15 minutes for us to get helped..... JUST FOR TWO GREEN TEAS. I can probably say that I locked eyes with that old lady three times and we were completely ignored. We know that she wasn't our server but she was helping the table right next to us. It was irritating because all we wanted was a "Hi, how can we help you?" I would rather wait knowing someone helped us rather than waiting for something to actually come to us. Both of us lost our appetite at this point. As I am writing this review, I am still sitting in our far away booth and we have already finished our food and nothing.... no one comes to us at all. Thank u next read more

Always great takeout. Personally, I mostly get the 3-roll sushi combo deal, which is the same as the lunch combo deal but you have to pay cash. Soo good read more

This place was sub-par, I've had better sushi. My boyfriend and I stopped by after catching a movie, and since he was craving sushi. I personally wanted Shake Shack! Our waiter was nice, but a little clumsy. He kept spilling our soy sauce dishes every time he bumped into the table. We started with the gyoza (pan-fried pork dumpling), and it reminded me of the one's I used to buy at the asian grocery store. I was like for real? I could've gotten this at home, and not have to pay $7 for it. The dumplings were definitely not pan-fried either. We decided to be adventurous and try the tori no karaage (Japanese style fried chicken, battered with ginger and garlic. served with mustard sauce). If that is how Japanese style fried chicken is, I don't think I ever wanna try KFC in Japan. I'm Vietnamese, and it reminded me of this shrimp paste on a sugarcane, I used to eat as a child. We ordered two rolls of sushi because we weren't starving. The crazy maki was eh, I've had better. Their volcano roll was my favorite, it had great presentation. It made my night. Since it was my turn to pick up the bill, I noticed that soda refills were not free (it would've been nice to know). I personally wouldn't return, it was not my cup of tea. My friends told me they prefer the Genki-Ya in Chinatown better, so maybe I'll give that a try. read more

Genki Ya - Volcano Roll | $15.95 - Sushi Bars Near Me - Dedham, Massachusetts

We liked this place very much and tried to go there for lunch each time we were in the neighborhood. It is very sad but I should write about that. Service went down, waiters usually spend their time on the phones chating or playing, not paying much attention at you. The quality of food is also went down. I put 2 stars only because we loved this place in the past. read more

This is my favorite restaurant!!!! I normally come once a week and everyone in the restaurant treated me like friends. Salmon torched is my first choice, super dragon and Yaki udon are yummy yummy. Angel is my personal server lol, she's definitely sweet and kind. I love ginger for my sushi, she's very patient no matter how much time I stop her for extra-sauce or ginger. Also they have brown and multi grain rice for sushi which not much restaurant have this option. Anyway, I love their sushi. Love it!!!! read more

Yum! Fresh fish and nice atmosphere! Came with family for lunch during the week, all three of us got the sushi lunch specials which were a great bite at a great price. Parking is easy in the free parking structure by the shopping center. The restaurant is within an outdoor mall area and was easy to find. Their menu is extensive with many roll options that include vegetarian options and options without raw fish. Since living in Boston, I've learned it is tough to find a good sushi restaurant near Boston that focuses on just sushi/Japanese cuisine rather than offering a wide variety of pan-Asian cuisine. This restaurant just has Japanese cuisine and you can bet it's good! read more

Went there for dinner while waiting for the order at the Apple store in the same plaza. We order sashimi for the appetizer. From the texture and taste, I can tell it's not fresh enough. And as a result, got diarrhea around 30min after my dinner there. And still felt uncomfortable till midnight. I would only give two stars for this. However, tempura is pretty good. One more star. Can't tell whether it's authentic, because chef and waitress are talking in Cantonese read more

This is definitely my go to place for sushi when I'm in town. The plaza is always packed but I've never had to wait for a table. Very quiet restaurant as there are only 3 or 4 other parties when I'm here. My favorite appetizer here is the fried gyoza, on the other hand the seafood delight was waaaayyyyy too mayo'd up. The beef negima was a good filler but not something I was too crazy about. My favorite sushi roll is the doomsday roll, although the banana in there was strange yet complemented the other ingredients. I've also tried the following rolls and they were all wonderful: triple torch, salmon torch, spicy scallop, spicy king crab, scorpion, and spider rolls. The hostess and waiters here are all friendly but the language barrier is a downfall that makes them come off as rude. Fortunately for me I'm used to this barrier so I though the service is always tolerable. It is disappointing that they rarely seat parties at the sushi bar, they mainly use it to prepare cutlery and place water pitchers on. Overall, this is a great place for a Friday date night or to fuel you up for bar hopping around in the plaza. read more

Had to pick up my bib for the Cape Cod Getaway ride and was thinking, "Where can I stop for a quick bite on the way home". Have never been to the place in Dedham so decided to check it out. This restaurant bills itself as high end, local source ingredients. I started with Uni. It was sloppy and had way too much rice. The nori was torn on one and barely around the rice on the other. Had a Tuna Sashimi selection to add to the meal. It was OK but really nothing to write home about. Good service and the price was OK. read more

The sushi rice was a bit on the chewy side and still had a slight vinegary smell. Thought the appetizer portions were on the small size. $10.95 for 3 slices of fish? Hmm...and the sauce was just some soy/sugar/mirin mixture. They do serve uni (urchin roe/gonad) here. The ones I was served still had brown specks of the the poor urchin dotting the roe. Still ate it b/c I was like 'bah I have a strong stomach'-but it tasted a bit off. So my advice is- try to get the pure bright yellow pieces when it comes to uni. read more

Best sushi, Best service, Best everything! No sushi restaurant compares to them. I wish there were more locations near me!

Awesome place! I went on a Saturday without planning for lunch. I never heard of this place before and I left amazed. I will definitely come back. The service was very good. They were very attentive and got our order just right! My friend complemented the shop sticks and the waiter got us 2 sets of their shop sticks. That was very nice of the waiter. They also didn't rush. We were able to eat at peace and stay for a bit after eating. I loved the ambiance. It's an excellent place if you want to do something intimate, the low light, soft music. It's a good place for big parties too. I noticed that they have some large table sittings on a side with curtains to diverse the big party from the rest. So if you need a quite place for a big party, this place could be perfect. The good was super delicious! The maki rolls were super big. The drinks that we got were very good as well. Can't wait to go back! Thanks! read more

Came in around 4:45pm on a Thursday. I was only 1 of 2 customers in the whole place. I think, all the staff was having a meeting by the sushi bar and one of the booths. I was seated as soon as I entered. Chinese-run Japanese restaurant - just an observation, nothing more. They have bamboo/plastic chopsticks. Hate these as those are difficult to grip food! Speaking of food, they didnt have uni nigiri stocked, all out. Shrimp tempura was tempura-battered with a panko finish. Food came out quick: tempura app, torched deluxe, salmon roll. All semi standard. Food was standard good, not bad, not great. Service was good too: refilled glass twice, asked me twice if things ok, took away empty dishes as soon as I finished. A pesky gnat kept circing my food as I was eating though, quite annoying. So overall, not bad, but not the best. Would still come back, but wouldn't hurry back. read more
