This is for a delivery order. I ordered the 2 meat combo and they only gave me 1. Then the meat that was there is overcooked to the point of crispness. There was even a piece that was just burnt. They hid the overcooked meat under the normal cooked meat. So clearly they knew what they were doing. Also the sides I picked...are in sauce containers. Absolutely incredible I was very surprised to even know that I had a really tasty Korean barbecue place right here in Glendale!! I'm so used to driving down to Alhambra or Koreatown for some tasty Korean barbecue and this place did not disappoint!! First of all our waiter, Elijah had incredible energy and kicked off one of the best dinners I've had in a long time and was an incredible server!! He recommended his top four and we instantly went with it, and it was spot on!! Meh. I remember when Gen first came out, it was pretty good. Either the quality has gone way down or competition has just gotten way stiffer. I think it's a combination of both. Gen has huge sales on gift cards at costco nowadays. You can get like a $100 dollar gift card for $65-70 bucks. So your meal is like 25-30% off. Even with that, I wouldn't come back again. The meats were very poor quality. Freezer burnt briskets. Side dishes weren't good either. Rice was mushy. Maybe it's a bad spot, but almost everything just wasn't really good. Wouldn't come back again. I think it's company has expanded too much and quality isn't there and operations isn't good anymore. Probably go out of business in upcoming years. My husband and I came for our anniversary dinner and had such an amazing experience tonight. We've been here countless times and this was definitely the best experience. Gen Korean BBQ serves some great food and at a reasonable price, especially compared to others. At $31 for a weekend price, that's pretty incredible. You get about 30 choices and a bunch of appetizers included. Also comes with rice and salad. Standard Korean BBQ place where you cook your meats and eat. Be careful what you order, though, because if you can't finish it, you get charged $5 for wasting an item. Pretty standard at these places. The ball was really dropped with the service, though. As my wife and I were seated, we waited for a waiter, that never showed up. After about 20 minutes, we pulled a random waiter from another side and asked what the heck was happening. The dude, whose name was Ethan, was very kind and amazing. He took over and helped us with everything we needed. He was a great guy and deserves the recognition, and I hope he gets recognized for going above and beyond. However, apparently we had a girl waiter who was supposed to be our main waiter but instead avoided us and did not assist us. When she was confronted and was told that she basically ignored us and we were upset, her reaction was to look at us and say"I don't care," like she thought I did not see or hear her, but guess what, girly! I did! Needless to say, this obviously pissed me the F off, and I had to inform management of the issue. The manager apologized and corrected the issue and made sure we were taken care of. I don't like to be this crazy about these things, but sometimes you just have to in order to bring the attention of management to this behavior from people who clearly don't want to work. Aside from the issue that the manager did resolve, Ethan attended to us well and provided us with everything we needed, and our experience was great while we were attended by him. I've never been to this Gen location but decided to give it in a try since I was shopping in the area. The server was friendly however forgot to bring out some of the sides until after asking a few times. I asked for smaller portions which the server assisted, with the exception of the Korean fried chicken. She mentioned that the portion was small however it wasn't that small and my party was not able to finish it. Other downsides were that the japchae was a little too salty and at times there were no employees around to assist with a grill change. read more

We haven't been to gen in forever. We had the best server named Robert! He was on top of all our orders, referred us to really good choices, and was overall so kind. Came here on a Thursday night for dinner for $30.99 per person. The food is okay for ayce Korean bbq but the reason for the 2 stars is because the service here is terrible. The bussers and runners were fine but one hostess and server were unfriendly, unwelcoming, and everything felt so rushed and forced. At one point, our server checked on us and asked if we wanted more meat, I said no but I was about to order something else and she just turned around and left...lol. A little while after, we weren't even done ordering and our server automatically gave us our bill?? Totally get it if we were there too long or if there was a wait for a table but the restaurant was not crowded nor were there people waiting at the front. We decided to just pay the bill but then our server was nowhere to be found to even grab the check. What a weird and awkward experience. Ambiance was ehh. There's a parking garage located across the restaurant with 90 minutes free parking and no validation. The service was rough long waits, staff clearly overwhelmed, and zero attentiveness unless you waved someone down like you were hailing a jeepney in rush hour. If you're understaffed, say that but don't let it show this badly. Food quality? Not what it used to be. Inconsistent cuts, lackluster flavor, and plates coming out way too slow for an AYCE spot. When service and food both miss, that's a double whammy. The biggest issue though? Management. The manager does not seem to have control of the floor. No urgency, no organization, no presence. This was actually our first time at Gen and it was so nice. Our server Alfonso really made this experience for us. He was really nice and paced our meal perfectly. I used to love coming here when I went through a big KBBQ phase a few years ago but I recently came back again for my friend and her boyfriend who were in town craving KBBQ and recommended this place only to find out I was wrong in doing so. I'm not sure what's happened in the last couple years but it has really gone downhill. The food - honestly it was really bad. All our food that we didn't cook ourselves was cold. I ordered the japchae and my friend ordered the deep fried mandu and they were colder than our water. It was unfortunate too because I opted to not get the ayce dinner and chose the appetizer as my meal as I was not that hungry which left me only to take a couple bites before I couldn't do it anymore. My friend had to warm up her mandu on the pan. The service - extremely slow, they seem very understaffed and drinks came out waaaaayyy after the side condiments were already given to us. But the part that upset me the most was that there was a bug swimming in my sauce and when we brought it up to the waiter we did not even get new sauces. He did apologize and I do feel bad for writing a bad review as he was nice, but did not do anything to solve the problem by at least bringing us new sauces. The other thing was, I was charged for an entire meal despite only ordering an appetizer which I was already too upset to even bother bringing it up to him because at that point we just all wanted to leave. I also realized today that I may have left my credit card there and tried calling to see if anyone found anything, but after 3 times of trying to call no one ever picks up. I am going to have to give this location another try I came here not too long ago, I believe it was on December 18. I had my family in tow. You were a small party of four. We waited about 30 to 45 minutes to be seated. Our server started out being absolutely wonderful. Based on the service and friendliness that was being received by that particular server, I would've immediately given this restaurant five stars. He really made all the difference. Unfortunately, the one thing that made this is a very memorable was the terrible service that we later received when our original server had to go on lunch. When our original server was helping us, everything was phenomenal. The speed of service was insane. He put in a request for a certain item for us and even before he could leave our table, the item was being delivered. I was absolutely floored. I've never seen that kind of efficient service like that at any restaurant. He was fantastic. Unfortunately, all of that took a turn for the worst and changed when he had to go on his break. The woman who replaced him for a while was terrible. He not only had a terrible attitude, but she also had the worst expression on her face. She approached and asked us if we needed anything, but you could tell it was definitely NOT what she wanted to do. I feel like she hates her job. The way that she looked at you and she asked if you need anything. It's like that daggers in her eyes. Exceptionally rude. He doesn't seem to care very much for her tables. But then again she's just filling in for the other guys so maybe that's why she act like she really doesn't care. I feel like her ideal situation would've been to have no tables or to have tables that all needed nothing from her. Unfortunately, that is not how things work. Especially when you work at a place like an all you can eat Korean barbecue house, people are going to need things all the time. The food that we had was great. Everything was nicely prepared. There were always busters coming around to remove empty plates for us. That was nice. The one thing that really ruined our entire meal was that lady who became our server when our first one went on break. I am hoping that not all of the other servers are like that. The restaurant was also very clean and had a nice atmosphere. For all you can eat at $31/ person for the dinner menu, you really can't go wrong. Minor cons: 1. Appetizers (side dishes like kimchi) should be served automatically without having to ask. This is the first Korean BBQ spot that has asked me if I would like the side dishes served. Just bring em, don't ask. Everyone wants it. 2. The digital menu is a bit confusing when you scan the QR code. The first half of the page is all boba options, which had me questioning if I was even looking at the right menu. It would be much better to have the Korean BBQ section at the top since that's what people are there for, with the boba options at the bottom. Not big on giving one star ratings but this location specifically needs an overhaul with customer service. We were seated quickly as it was not really busy (about 6-7 tables). Once seated, waitstaff passed by us a total of 4 times over 8 minutes and not once took our drink or food order until we called for one. From there, it was a nonstop waiting game and fight to get anyone's attention to serve and help us. Every time we tried to get anyone's attention they would either forget what we asked for or just keep walking. It was such an unenjoyable experience that all we wanted to do was leave. At one point, our grill was dirty and so burnt from waiting and leaving it empty just burning without food that it actually caught fire with flames coming up and I tried to lower the flame. Waitstaff walked by and didn't even do anything until we got their attention to please change it, "oh wow" is what was said when they saw the empty grill on fire. Even when we asked for the check we wait and after giving our card we waited over 12 min for someone to return. Mind you, it was not busy. Food was okay, we basically had to ask three times for any sauces and most of the meat was so fatty that it was inedible. Ambience was normal Gen ambiance but cleanness could be better. The appetizer plates are so small and literally almost empty, I had to ask for another one and it came with slightly more but still a shock that basic kimchi appetizers are being given in bites. Went all the way to the top and walked back and my parents were still waiting to be greeted! Another family was also waiting and the father went to get someone to assist for seating. Bad way to start a restaurant visit. Still took another 5 minutes or more before we were seated and the other family at least another few minutes after us, unacceptable without an apology for the wait. Look at all the similar comments on the reviews for this Gen location. It's just the way they run their restaurant. I tried to call to speak to a manager about our experience, and no one answers and you can't leave a message. We sat for so long without anyone greeting us that we actually decided to get up and leave. Went to the Greek restaurant across the street and had great food and great service.
