The food was a good value for the money. But the juices are so watered down. My orange juice tastes like water with pulp with very little orange flavor. My son said his apple juice also tasted like water with a small amount of apple. I ordered the apple crepes and they were very good, but I was turned off that my plate had dried egg on it. This cute diner was conveniently located, so my girlfriend and I stopped in. We were seated right away and the food came out promptly. The inside of the restaurant has an old school feel with memorabilia hanging on the walls and small signs. I had the best biscuits and gravy and to be honest it was the best biscuits and gravy I've ever had in my life, it was perfect. We go to gels almost every week. Sometimes twice! I LOVE their corned beef hash. I've never had it anywhere else the way they make it. Like it was made right after st. Patty's day! Real shredded corned beef, not like the cat food canned garbage everywhere else! All of the employees are great as well. I am upset that I have waited so long to come here. This location has changed names numerous times, so I always avoided it. I actually tried it because of the reviews on here. Came for breakfast and the food and prices are great. Staff is mostly friendly. There is one waitress that is not so nice, but she only seems to be there on Sundays. Really cute atmosphere :) I ordered the hash and cheese omelet which was really delicious. Very large portion, took me two days to eat! My boyfriend got their banana bread French toast which I thought was really unique! I've been to Gel's a handful of times since they opened. The service is always friendly and the owner is always present. The food is fresh and cooked to order... and when I get what i ordered, its delicious!! Unfortunately, more recently, the servers have become a little lackadaisical. The last 3x there my order was messed up, with no apology or offer to correct it. I should note that even though it was not how I ordered, it was still delicious. Even still... I want what I want. Also, when asking for something extra : more napkins, sugar, butter, the check, I have had to ask twice as the servers are either really busy or really forgetful. that being said, I will recommend you check it out! read more

My Friend and I came in today at 11:50. The restaurant was busy but we were seated right away. The waitress took our order. We got the wrong drinks. After correcting that we then waited... and waited. About 10-15 mins after we sat three tables around us sat. a table of 2, 3 and 5. All three tables were served before us. The waitress came over at one point and said sorry it's very busy. That would be relevant if the other three tables did not get there food. I understand its a busy place and you may have to wait, But an hour with no food for breakfast when three other tables one that was 5 guest get there food before us is just unacceptable. After over an hour I decided to leave. No FOOD served. I went up front to pay for out drinks and one of the waitress looked shocked we hadn't been served And Told me I didn't have to pay. Another waitress new what happened and said the printer jammed when we put there order in. Not only didn't we get served but NO ONE came over to us and said we made a mistake and your order didn't get put in. They blamed it on how busy the restaurant was. If you came over and said we are sorry but something happened and your order didn't get put in I would have waited paid in full and tipped well. Be honest with your guest. you will be surprised how they will be patient and leave happy. read more

This review is long over due. I've been to Gel's multiple times and have always enjoyed it, everything is always fresh and delicious, customer service is always number one in their priority list. The owner Angelica is always around keeping an eye on everything and her mother is sometimes there helping out, I believe her name is Lori. Anyways, nice family oriented atmosphere. Now for the food, I swear by their hash it's delicious and always made up fresh, that and a couple of farm fresh eggs and toast is the way to go. The hot weiners believe it or not are delicious as well, a RI tradition. So I think it's safe to say, try out gels kitchen it's more then worth your time. read more

Good food, service slow and inattentive. Service staff texting and talking with each other, finally ordered and eventually got food. Order was in correct, distracted staff usually messes up orders. We were looking for somewhere new for breakfast and did not have high hopes of great service considering other reviews. Not the case at all. It was seat yourself and we sat at a cleared table but had not been wiped down. Someone came over immediately to wipe it down and set it up. Our server was very personable sharing funny stories while filling us in on menu selections etc. food came out quickly and was all done perfectly. Coffee was refilled, check was delivered without a wait and picked up in the same manner. Such a pleasant experience and so happy we tried it. Staff is always friendly food is always hot fast and excellent personality on all wait staff when I had time I used to always go everyday but work just got too busy and unfortunately I do not have the time in the morning to make it mainly because I sleep too late ! I wish I could give the restaurant more than 3 stars,but I can't because the cooks are brain dead. The service is good,and the food is good as well. The cooks can not get a order right no matter how many times I go there. It is a shame because Mike & Gel are good hard workers, but I guess it is hard to get through the ( brain dead) cooks they have. If you are ok with hoping they get your order right I would recommend this place because they have very good food for a fair price, and good service from the waitress & waiters. The food was pretty good. I'm giving it 2 stars because of the service. We walked in, no one greeted us. Everyone looked miserable. We sat after 10 min of waiting, and had to ask for menus. Ok, I finally came to Gels for breakfast. First off, I did try the hash everyone was complimenting on. I enjoyed it and trust me, I would never get hash from a can so I will only eat home made hash. It does not beat Oatleys hash but it is very good and I would recommend it. My scrambled eggs and homefries were good, no complaints. Now for the service, i ordered onions on my home fries and when my order came there were no onions. When I finally got my servers attention I informed him that they forgot the onions. Now I'm not that much of a stickler that I'm going to trash them for forgetting the onions but here is the problem, after I told my server I also said I was ok and I did not expect them to fix it and my server walked away and never went to the kitchen to let the cook know. I did not expect them to accommodate me for forgetting the onions but I did expect the server to inform the cook that he screwed up so it doesn't happen again. I was never asked how my breakfast was and one more thing that was weird, maybe it was fine but I have never seen this before. When I paid my check at the table, the server pulled out a wad of cash and did the transaction at the table and gave me change. I do not expect a grand looking interior in a place which serves breakfast and lunch but Gels does serve dinner as well. It's definitely dated but it was fairly clean. Have frequented now several times. Gel loves to bake and will aim to please with your favorite. I am gluten sensitive and she loves to even make gluten free pumpkin or banana bread and cookies. Se loves to keep her patrons happy. It reminds me of mom aiming to do her special baking just to please me. My dad loves Gel's so much only wants to eat there for breakfast when he comes. read more

My husband and I continuously look for great breakfast places and always get disappointed. We have run into ridiculously (and needlessly) complicated food, greasy food and tons of just blah or heavy food. I completely took the leap of faith based on Kevin G.'s review. We were so glad we did. It's a smaller place, smaller staff, but they were friendly and attentive from the second we walked in. We ordered simple since it was our first time but I had to try the hash. It was actually perfect. Homemade, not fatty and perfect. That is all that needs to be said. Everything we ate was cooked perfectly. It was so good that we decided to purchase some breads and a muffin to try at home the next day. I visited this place considering high rating. But I honestly have no idea why is this so overrated. My friends and I visited this place on long weekend, wait for getting a table is understood coz of holiday season, but they took freaking 40-45 minutes to get our food once we were seated. And we are looking around, almost 75% of the tables had no food. Also the food is average, not that great. House fries is hyped in reviews, but it's just boiled potatoes that are sauteed. read more
