Got there at 10:30am. Order was taken at 10:45am but it took 45 minutes to receive 2 pretty basic breakfasts. The home fries had no taste at all. Needed alot of help. The orange juice did not taste real. Almost like a frozen can mix. Pricing is reasonable but would pay more for better quality. Also the place was not really clean. Table sticky. So this is my third review. Hopefully this one will not be filtered. This is an unsuspecting experience. First off it is in a strip mall and positioned so that you might miss it. Once you go in you will notice a bar in the back, a kino machine and big open spaced hard top tables. So at this point you would expect typical diner food. But a quick glance to the specials board, or even inside the menu you will notice that they are a little more. They do have the typical stuff, but then they have the little nuggets with a French influence. I suspect that there is a chef in the back that was just looking to take it down a notch. Anyway, they have great crepes, wonderful French toast, great hash and if you are there in the afternoon, great hot wieners. The price tag is a lot less than you would expect. The first time I came to Gel's I was not impressed. The waitress completely got my order wrong which wouldn't have bothered me because I am not a picky eater but what she brought me was not good. I went a second time and it was a bit better, I enjoyed my food a bit more but everything just took forever, from getting our food to paying the bill. Good food, great prices, even better service. Everyone is so friendly. I would recommend the corned beef hash, it's not from a can and they've made it perfect each time I've been here. My daughters love the mickey Mouse pancakes with a side of fruit. I usually get the platter which is a large amount of food and very inexpensive. 12/27/2013 Update: The owner contacted me and we spoke about my experience, the owner was courteous, professional and very concerned with my experience at there restaurant. I am very impressed with the communication I received after I posted this. I will be giving the restaurant another try in the foreseeable future and will post what my experience was and will give the review of what I perceive and adjust the review accordingly. I went to this place the first time the food took 30 mins to get out and was not warm and the place was not even busy. The waitstaff was waiting on other people and other people that came in 10 mins after we ordered were getting there food first. I decided to give them another try and it was worse the second time around. I had my 3 kids with me both times and there food was cold as well.. Totally coming back! We went here for breakfast. It was our first time here so we wanted a spread. In one order we got 3 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pieces of sausage, 2 pieces of toast and home fries for about $6! The other order was a 3 egg veggie omelet that was PACKED with all sorts of veggies, home fries and toast. The food was great. The price is right, the food is good, and the staff is friendly. Well now, this place was a pleasant surprise! I hadn't heard about Gel's even though it opened over a year ago. My girlfriend and I went for breakfast. I ordered blueberry and banana pancakes with a fresh fruit cup, she ordered the fruit cup as well and one egg, corned beef hash, and rye toast. She also received the requisite hash browns that normally come with an egg breakfast. We both enjoyed our fruit cups. The three pancakes were large and light (not doughy like the majority of breakfast spots). Absolutely delicious. Though they don't offer pure maple syrup, the syrup that came with the meal was warm and of thinner consistency than the all too familiar wall paper paste I've practically choked on in many establishments. I normally don't like corned beef hash because what I've had a few times was over-salted and with a sour taste. But Gel's was obscenely good - overloaded with meat, not heavily salted, and with a nice mellow flavor without the sourness. Hell, I would have ordered just that for a meal! We both felt the hash browns required more seasoning. Personally, I like well-done hash browns that have a bit of a "crunch" to them. Overall we were very pleased with our experience, and the wait staff was very friendly. How about offering whole wheat pancakes? It's our new go-to place in West Warwick for breakfast. read more

My wife & I went to Gel's today based on what we read on RI Magazine's online article "Best Breakfasts in RI". Gel's wasn't chosen, but many commenters within the article wrote that they couldn't believe that it wasn't. I'm here to say, they were right. Gel's is fantastic! I had Alvin's Hot Wiener Omelet and it was amazing. How it is that no one else ever thought of this is beyond me. My wife had the Irish Benedict and she said it was the best hash she has ever had. Breakfast was so good we ordered another Alvin's to-go. We mentioned to our waitress that we were from CT and the only bad thing was we lived over an hour away and couldn't have breakfast at Gel's every day. On our way out, one of the staff stopped us at the door to personally thank us for coming in and trying them out and wondered how we happened by. We told her our story and she thanked us again. A pleasant suprise. It wasn't too crowded. The server was very attentive. My better half had a fruit cup which was varied and adequate. The place was busy but very quiet. I had been here under the previous ownership and was hesitant to return. I'm glad I did. I ordered the breakfast platter. The waffle was fluffy and they served it with warm syrup which was a nice touch. The homefries was pretty stock but well cooked. Our coffee was plentiful and our cups didn't even make it to half empty. The prices were pretty good for a breakfast plate. The breakfast platter is two eggs, homefries, 2 bacon, and a fantastic waffle. We received our food in about ten minutes or so. No warmer plate time. Just hot and fresh. Gels staff by FAR are the a RUDEST people if you're calling for pick up. They get my order wrong every time (it's just a bacon egg and cheese). They're horribly organized because when I get there to pick it up they don't ask my name, make me wait standing there for 4-7 min before someone attends me, and when they do attend me it's almost as if I'm bothering them with my order. Today they charged the wrong order on my card because they assumed (not asked) that I was the "big order". They are extremely rude, have 0 customer service, and clearly hate their jobs. I called to get take out, the lady who answered was extremely rude. Just as rude when I picked up my order. The food was okay. Attempted again as dine in customer with my brother. We sat down and the lady came right over and asked what we wanted to drinks, we both got coffee. Than we sat there listening to this woman talk about how much she does for the community and and how tired she is from everything that she does. She continued on and on and on about how great she was. Finally a young lady came over and asked how everything was, I said well the coffee we ordered was great, but that lady talking about how wonderful she is never came back to take our order. The young woman apologized to us and said that's the owner, she's a little conceited, I wonder how her crown even fits through the door in the morning. I told the young lady to just bring me the check we are all done with just the coffee. I will never go back there! Waited a few minutes and someone (a waitress)? asked if I wanted something to drink, she brought me coffee then I sat there for ten minutes waiting to order while everyone ignored me. I'm an easy going customer and a very generous tipper. I left there wondering if maybe I missed something and did something wrong. I have been here several times and the food has always been good. Breakfast is always good and fast. I would recommend the sausage, biscuit and gravy meal.
