Let me share you my story…read more We were on a road trip from the SF Bay Area to Seattle and back. That's about 2000 miles (probably more including the side trips). Needless to say, I had our diesel BMW X5 checked before leaving the Bay Area. When we got to Redding, CA, the dreaded check engine light (CEL) came on. So, we were frantic not knowing what was wrong with our car. Also, we had no idea what shop to go to. Can we find somebody knowledgeable and with the right equipment to work on a diesel X5? Can we find somebody honest enough who'll tell us exactly what's wrong and not charge us an arm and a leg? The universe must have been on our side because we found Steven, the manager (or owner) of Angelo's Classic Import. With Steven, all our fears were gone. They have a very updated shop with all the equipment needed to diagnose our car's problems. We found a very honest person in Steven who charged us honestly. (Turned out the issue was minor and he charged us only $20!) How I wish his shop is in the Bay Area because I would drive the whole length of the Bay Area just to have the privilege of me becoming his client for life! Try his shop and I'm sure you'll experience the same type of excellent Customer Service as I did! Thank you Steven for your service!

We were headed home to Southern California from Seattle when the battery light turned on and our battery died near Redding around 7pm. Thank goodness we found Roy on yelp! He came out to our hotel to diagnose the car later that night and returned the next day with parts to fix the alternator. We were back on the road by lunchtime. Roy being a mobile service was such a god send for us as we were traveling with 2 kids and a large dog. We didn't have to Uber back and forth from an auto shop to the hotel and back again which cut out so much stress from an already stressful situation. Tips: I would recommend texting Roy if he doesn't pick up. Depending on the time of day, he can be a one man show and not able to pick up the call right away.

Sometimes the job just doesn't go smoothly. When he finally arrived he was quick to diagnose the problem and order the parts. He was told the parts would arrive in 1-3 days depending on where the part came from. Completely understandable. On the afternoon of the third day I a sent a message to see if the part had arrived. He said it had. He would pick it up and head right over after he finished with a jump start. After waiting a few hours (maybe the jumpstart was in Sacramento?) we asked to reschedule as it was getting late and we had a family situation to handle. He agreed to the next day. That was a week ago as I write this review. Tried texting. Tried voicemail, full box. No return communication and still need a repair.

I bought very expensive aftermarket bulbs but discovered the front bumper must be removed to change the light housing which I also wanted to replace. I saw this body shop had high stars on Yelp so I called to ask if they would perform the work. Their immediate response was "no" and "we don't do that kind of work and only install OEM components." I kindly asked " do you recommend anyone else that will do this work for me?". Immediate "nope, you'll just have to call around" They were about as helpful as a broken fence post and could care less in my opinion. My next phone call was to Underhood Automotive. Immediately helpful and professional. Chris said they do this kind of work all the time and install DOT legal headlights on older Shasta County Search and Rescue vehicles. Every single question I asked was answered. I live 4 hours away from Redding so coordinating this was somewhat of a Challenge. Chris even told me my mom's car had loud squeeking brakes and he would inspect those as well. Strong Automotive has high stars so I'm guessing their body work is pretty good but customer service is also very important and in this department, they have a long way to go.

Told them I would not be doing that and when I got my car back there was no cap on my coolant reservoir. Luckily I caught it quickly and went and immediately bought another one. Had them reimburse me for the cap but it was a shitty aftermarket cap and the functional original cap I've had to do without. Not to mention having to once again buy coolant. My engine block would have been toast had I not caught it as quick as I did. Could have been an honest mistake but also would have guaranteed I needed a new engine. Had never had an issue before but won't risk going back. Changed the head gasket myself for $800 after buying tools and parts.

Had to bring the car back twice to get an accurate diagnosis on the problem with my car. Although I had an appointment when I brought it in to have it repaired, I was told there's a chance they might not get to it that day. (It wasn't an urgent issue...why make an appointment if your schedule is full??) When I picked up my car after hours, the lockbox where my key was stored was left unlocked, and my car was also unlocked. And finally, after having my bakes serviced, the lug nut key was missing...requiring another trip back to the shop to pick it up. Overall, a frustrating experience.

We had the car towed on Sunday night and brought it to Perry's after my nephew researched their website. On Monday we were there at 8am and to our surprise there was a line of people already in the office. We figured we had no chance but the fact that they were super busy was a good sign. Amy took care of us and said they were super busy but would get someone to do a quick diagnosis. Jeremy, the Manager, stopped everything he was doing and provided us with a quick diagnosis and our options. The car had not been serviced in a while And it needed a new transmission. Expensive but the fact that Jeremy took immediate care of our needs and provided options plus we felt so comfortable with the way he handled it. The rest of the staff were very friendly and super helpful. It's a bummer that our car broke down but I am thankful for repair shops like Perry's who are honest and handle their business with integrity and care for the people that get stranded in the middle of no where while traveling on vacation. Who charges a diagnostic fee for every single issue? I did not authorize this ahead of time and I…read moreended up paying over $300. Other customer reviews showed comprehensive courtesy inspections were included as well as an extensive courtesy brake and Tire inspections. I was charged to diagnose a rattle in my brakes. Not only did they diagnose the rattle wrong but when I asked to correct it..It is now still not fixed.. instead, they bent the clips out to build more tension and put spray glue on the calipers to hold them down. I live an hour from town so I got to take 3.5 hours out of my life to have it still not fixed or even diagnosed properly. Wish I could charge them back at an hourly rate. The receptionist tells me they charge multiple diagnostic fees because She can't be having Her guys do work for free. But She apparently doesn't mind having Her customers drive back-and-forth on their own dimes. Awesome. I would pay overly inflated prices if I felt like things were getting done properly. Issac was my mechanic and he did what he could. Very nice guy who I really appreciate. Thank you Issac. But this shops got some issues. Not the mechanics fault. The original estimate link said that the brake stuff would be included in the courtesy brake and tire inspection.. zero dollars. (Take screen shots. I forgot) They found that the rattle clip was bent outward instead of tucked in like they should be on both front tires. So basically they had to bend the clip back in and that cost me 130. They're still rattling. Much better but still it's a band-aide not a fix. Supposedly they checked the back brakes, but one of them is squealing pretty severely and has a stuck Caliper.. completely missed that. When I asked if they looked at them they said, I'm sure I did.. no memory of it and no record of it. The comprehensive inspection also said zero dollars in the original link. 180+ to diagnose the clutch issues. Clutch replacement price was 1400 to 2200. I thought 'that's realistic I can cover that no problem.' Even if the insurance won't cover it. That's a standard price and why the system auto populated as such. After Statefarm got involved I reopened that quote link, completely different price. $3500 plus..more than the Subaru dealership. When I hit them up about it they acted like they didn't know I was was talking about. But I would not have pulled a price 1400 to 2200, out of my ass. I know I saw that. They know that their software auto populates before they change it. I figured that, so I looked it up and that is definitely the case. They went ahead and blatantly admitted to marking up their parts over 68% and mentioned that they added another hour plus to the estimate for labor. If you buy parts online from the dealership that's 105% mark up. Seriously what?? $765 vs over $1600+. I get marks ups, but this over the top. Naturally, the labor rate is not listed on their itemized bill and estimate or website. I will include for you the difference between the actual oem prices versus what they were going to charge. And evidence of free diagnostic and brake inspections done for other customers. Also what ai said about the collision I don't know why, but they insisted that this had nothing to do with the accident. I hit a huge bear, it crumpled the entire right side of my car. It does seem like it's related. The clutch wasn't slipping or going out prior, it's a very young clutch for a Subaru Impreza, and it started directly after the accident. It's a short rubber squeal upon take off. The clutch is still actually working fine. I asked them if they could rewrite the quote saying that this is consistent w an impact only because I have researched it quite a bit and that does seem to be the case. And possibly add that mechanically, the clutch is still sound and operational. They literally told me there is no way that it is related and that I am trying to commit insurance fraud. Are u kidding me?? Guess I shouldn't have bitched that my tires were over inflated. Save yourself the time and hassle.

They could have easily sold me on replacing my timing chain, gears and all the parts that it takes to rebuild that area but instead I was advised that it would be best to have the transmission checked out first before spending $2500 to $3000 with them. The car is only worth about $5000 so it wouldn't be worth spending all that money on it to then have the transmission break down on me and I would have to spend another 4-5K. Thank you for honesty!
