I recently moved up to Redding from Orange County. My 2004 caddie DTS Northstar Engine had a blown head gasket and found Kirk via positive word of mouth. Fixing a Northstar head gasket is extremely difficult and time consuming. The whole engine has to be removed. Kirks performance was nothing less than awesome. He repaired the gasket and stuck by his warranty commitment after experiencing some initial difficulties. Kirk is honest and won't give up until the job is done right and for a fair price. Short story - my Jeep had a water pump and radiator go out while driving across town. I got a quote from a mechanic near where I was stranded in the Jeep, but Kirk's price was still about $130 less so I had it towed over to GM Specialty. In addition to replacing the radiator and water pump, he also replaced the rear shocks where he beat the price of a national chain. I have quite a bit of history with Kirk Taylor over the last eight years, so this isn't just a "one-off" experience. Without exception, he's provided the best prices of anyone in town and on several occasions he's helped me avoid unnecessary repairs and fixed the source of the problem. My introduction to him was in 2004, when I had just moved to Redding and had the challenge of finding a good mechanic - particularly since I had a 1994 Saturn that needed repairs. While other mechanics were quoting me hundreds of dollars on a replacing a system, he told me only a small inexpensive part needed to be replaced (something to do with a belt pulley, if I recall correctly). He did so, fixed the problem, and I didn't have a problem with it since. I've since had a 2005 Silverado crew cab, 1997 Jeep Wrangler, and a 1997 Honda Accord, all of which he's serviced for a variety of repairs. I can't think of a single repair that has been repeated in my 8 years with him. In addition, he provides valuable advice that other mechanics don't mention. For example, earlier this year, I was replacing a couple tires on my Honda Accord at a national chain store that specialized in tires, and the mechanic told me the axle boots (CV boots) needed to be replaced because they were leaking and probably had dirt inside. They quoted me a price (over $300) on replacing the boots, but I took it to Kirk to get confirmation. He confirmed it was true, but went a step further and recommended that I replace both axles along with the boots for only $50 more. He explained that the failed axle boot probably introduced dirt into the CV joint and likely caused additional wear to the axles. I'd rather pay a little extra now instead of coming back to him in a year or so and have the worn axles replaced for another $350 - thank you, Kirk! The most important things I look for in a mechanic is competence, great price, good advice, and integrity. Kirk Taylor and his crew of mechanics have met all of these requirements and are the best team of mechanics I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I use the word "pleasure" intentionally because I know he's going to take care of it right and he'll treat me fairly. Bottom line - he's someone I can trust. I've recommended him to friends and strangers needing auto repairs (GM or not). My friend and co-worker has taken his vehicles to Kirk on several occasions, and he's had the same experience - prices much lower than the competition, helpful service, and someone he can trust as well. read more

I've been a customer of Kirk's since 2005. I've had him and his guys work on three of my vehicles - all GM products. He's always come through with the right repair and the right advice. I felt like I got my moneys worth out them. Never felt screwed over. The only complaint I can make is that he's always busy. His phone is ringing off the hook. Wow what s surprise! Kirk Taylor's shop has worked on two cars of mine over the pat 18 months. The repairs have been done well and the cost of services have been fair. That is why my latest experience was such a shock. I called his shop to make an appointment to take care of two issues with my 2001 Caddy. One dealt with my ignition switch, which keeps me from driving the car. The other, with a light that comes on that makes it impossible to smog the car and deals with the torque converter. The issue dealing with the light that comes on is an expensive repair and we were trying to save money up to take care of it. The ignition problem prompted us to try and take care of both issues at once. When I called to make the appointment I was told I'd have to wait a week to bring the car in. That's a Long time to be without a car, but I thought it was worth the wait. The next day I received a call from Kirk, who asked me if I could bring the car in for them to run diagnostic tests to confirm the problem. He told me it might take 4/5 days to get the parts. I live 25m away and wasn't sure if I could get the car back and forth. I did it anyway. They ran the diagnostics on a Friday. They had all the information they needed to order my parts. My appointment was for the following Thursday. On Wednesday, the day before was car was scheduled to be repaired, I got a phone call from Kirk himself. He informed me that it would take 4-5 days to order the parts for the repairs. When I asked why he hadn't ordered the parts on Friday, after I had brought him the vehicle as he requested, he told me he didn't want to do the repair for me anymore because of my bad attitude and then hung up on me. Really? A simple straight forward question, and instead of taking responsibility he gets offended and hangs up. I've run my own businesses for my entire life. I don't take crap from anyone. But I asked Kirk the question in a respectful manner. Why wouldn't I. I've been happy with the service and had no reason to be mean spirited. I don't know folks.
