The space had a very "old fashioned" steakhouse vibe from the 80s or Early NY before a family friendly Times Square, but the service was top tier. Took myself on a solo date here to try it out while it was restaurant week. I walked in and sat at the bar (which I high key hated because it was right by the door). The bartender was super busy as the restaurant was packed, so I tried not to rush her to get my order in. The HRW menu was pretty decent so I got the Caesar salad, the salmon and the chocolate cake for dessert. Paired all this with a lemon drop and tried to take in the experience. The salad was so good and they provide you with a chilled fork to eat with. The salmon was huge and definitely didn't need any sides, but the chocolate cake was bleh. Seems like many restaurants can't get it right when it comes to rich and flavorful chocolate cakes. While the food was great (forgot to get the shrimp devil eggs smh), the ambiance left a lot to be desired. I'm surprised by all the rave reviews about it. I thought the decor was tacky, the place looked dusty and like it needed a deep cleaning, and sitting by the bar was the worst because it smelled so bad because the kitchen was right there. Hidden Gem! Made reservations for friend's birthday the day of. Valet is available for $10 or you can find street parking in the back or near by. Upon arrival greeted. I arrived early and had a drink at the bar. Various cocktail options. The ambiance is beautiful 1920's, vintage, art deco, golden decor like Gatsby is. Perfect place for a birthday, date or to treat yourself. Business casual dress or dressier is recommended but some people were in jeans, just don't come in tank top, shorts & flip flops. Cause have you seen my photos? Here's the good stuff upon guest of honor arriving. It's restaurant week so we opted for that. There's a wine offering which is a great buy so do opt for it & Cabernet pairs well with steak & chocolate. And it's 3 courses. First course: Friend ordered the prime beef tartare with quail egg and Parmesan. It was my first time trying tartare and will say I have been missing out! It was savory and delicious. I took the leftovers home. I ordered the Caesar salad, wanted to be sure I finished my steak. Salad was good, it's easy to mess up Caesar salads but they did it right. Second course: Friend and I both got the Filet 8oz, medium with Peppercorn Sauce. It arrived sizzling to the table. But it was well seasoned, savory and enjoyed every bite. Do note that it does not come with sides, but you can order them a la carte. Between the beef tartar and the filet, we were actually full. Third course: Friend kept it simple after eating chocolate cake the day before and had the vanilla ice cream. It was good. I had the Flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis (sauce) for a dessert it was light and not overly sweet. Paired well with the wine. Overall our experience was memorable and enjoyable. I had a wonderful time celebrating Galentine's Day here. The service was excellent, Jared was our waiter he explained the menu really well. He was also the bartender and he made well balanced drinks. I started off with a Great Gatsby, it was refreshing and citrusy. Later, I got the Mary Pickford - rum, pineapple juice and maraschino. It was a bit sweet for my taste but it was still nice to drink. We were recommended with the sautéed shrimp. He asked if we wanted to add another shrimp, since it comes with 3, and we did. They were colossal. Served with a delicious buttery sauce and Parmesan toast points, which were great to sop the sauce up with. We also had a bread basket with pretzel bread, brioche, sourdough and cornbread. The cornbread was my favorite, slightly sweet and baked well, not dry in the slightest. The crab cake was also great, jumbo lumps were noticed throughout and there wasn't much filler to the cake. The wedge salad was good, served with chilled silverware. There were blue cheese crumbles and dressing, bacon chunks. Honestly I think we could've ended our meal there, we ordered too much! My steak came out sizzling on a 500 degree plate, cooked to perfection and tender. The broccoli accompanied it well. It was topped with shaved Parmesan. The lobster mac and cheese, for me was drowning in cheese sauce, there were large chunks of lobster. A year ago this restaurant was easily 5 stars and one of my favorite steakhouses in Houston. The food and atmosphere were spectacular. I don't know what caused such a huge change in quality. Weekday nights are not the most popular time but other restaurants in Montrose book out each night. We were one of 2 other tables in this place the entire night. The staff was very friendly and their tropical cocktail was delicious! The margarita had a very unusual flavor though. Appetizers - lobster bisque was excellent. The Burrata salad was okay - it was a bit cold. The Caesar salad dressing was too fishy. The bread basket was disappointing - previously the bread was warm and fresh, this time it was extremely dry and overly toasted but the pretzel bread was great. The steaks were good! The peppercorn sauce is more of a au jus but still nice. The sweet corn, mashed potatoes, and fries were all quite nice! The crème brûlée had a curdled custard - quite disappointing. The bread pudding was tough. Overall really disappointing. Unless there's another change and the restaurant goes back to its old quality, I will be unlikely to return. Previously the high prices were justifiable with superb food but now it is certainly not worth it. Maybe it was an off night for the restaurant. read more

Hello HRW 2023!! This is my first visit to this place and my first restaurant to check out for on the Houston Restaurant Weeks list this year. Two of us arrived early for a 6:45 reservation for seven folks. We each had a drink at the bar while waiting for the rest of the group to arrive. Drinks were great. Unfortunately I don't recall the full names. I checked the Gatsby's Steakhouse website to see if I could locate them and the drinks listed online are not the same as what's listed on the actual bar menu, they may have done some revisions and not published them yet. If you are curious, just know the one in the mule cup is called Brooklyn something and I believe the other one my friend ordered has the word Breeze in its name. We ordered wine for the table, for our visit they were offering a bottle of The Prisoner (Orín Swift version) for $30. You can't turn that down! I and others at the table are fans of Dave Phinney's, and since the price was right we ordered a bottle for the table. Lobster bisque was delightful, contained large and plentiful pieces of lobster meat. Most of the time when I order bisque, it's piping hot and you have to wait for a few minutes for it to cool down. This one was creamy and comfortingly warm, and ready to consume when it was delivered to the table. For my main course, I ordered the filet, prepared Oscar style. It was buttery and delicious. We ordered whipped potatoes for the table along with corn. Didn't get to check out the corn, but those whipped potatoes were light and fluffy, and thoroughly enjoyed by the group. Raspberry cheesecake was excellent. Overall, the entire meal was great and I did not have any leftovers. I have to give a special shout-out to Jordan, our server for the evening. He handled our large party like a boss. This guy guided us through the menu, answered any questions we had and was just an all around rockstar. read more

Jeremiah - Very rushy, not friendly and no personality or upbeat vibe. This crashes the party on a night you want to go out on the town. His demeanor was very stand off-ish, cold, unwelcoming.... just all around bad. It bummed us out a bit to have to annoy him by asking for anything as he rushed to and from the table. And when we arrived there was literally no one there. The place opens at 5p and our reservation was for 5pm so there was no need to not take his time and provide friendly service. I would go back for the crab cakes, but Killen's Steakhouse and Trulux have much better staff & side dishes with excellent flavor. Went for a galentines dinner with the bff and it was really great overall. We got there right when they were opening because that was the only reservation available. We were shown to our table right away. It's not a very big place but it's cozy. I was not a fan of the black walls and red leather seats. We started with the sautéed shrimp which came with some Parmesan bread and a really great sauce. Next we tried a crab cake and some salads which were really great as well. The crab cake was just that, CRAB! I don't like going to places that serve "crab cakes" that are all cake and barely any crab. The wedge salad was tasty but then again it's hard to mess up a wedge salad. For my main course I had the filet with Oscar toppings and the lobster Mac n cheese. The steak with crab and hollandaise sauce was great and cooked to the temperature that I ordered and the lobster Mac n cheese had big lumps of crab meat in it which was great. The apricot martini was delicious with the sugar rim as well. Overall it was a great experience, my only complaint is that the interior seemed to be a bit tacky and there was no attention to detail was made when painting and such. If my bill is close to $400 for two people I expect all aspects of my dinner experience to be great. But food was really great. read more

My favorite new 2021 place so far! Love establishments where you don't feel like you're in Houston but transformed to a different place and time. Which I guess was the intent with the name and decor. It's also very opulent, intimate and a completely different atmosphere than a large format steakhouse. This is a great date spot but also fun for a group or any special night out. Food wise, I'm not a steak person but the seafood is delicious. Love the towers and how decadent they are with the many sauces. The presentation is impressive. I've had both the salmon and crab cakes and both were exceptional. Really loved the crab cakes! The mashed potatoes were amazing. And I'm not really a dessert person, but I adore the flourless chocolate cake and the red velvet, even though I've never had anything red velvet that I've liked before! I went here for my birthday dinner. I loved it. Upon arrival I found out they only have valet parking but it's tips only not an actual charge. They were very nice with the parking. The minute I stepped in the restaurant the entire atmosphere excited me. The hostess and waiters were very nice. They are very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. One great point for me is that you don't have to beg for water. There was one guy who kept our water glasses full. I got the salmon and my son got the chicken and we shared the cream spinach. Everything is sold separately. The cream spinach was enough for at least 3-4 people. It was very good great balance of the cream in the spinach and seasoned well, not bland at all. The salmon was well cooked with a great taste. In addition to the food and the staff I enjoyed to music. It was at a nice level in volume. I plan to go back and try the steaks. read more

I had heard many great things about Gatsby's and had been wanting to try it out so we booked a table for three and gave it a shot! Gatsby's is a superb treat for anyone who enjoys steak and a fine-dining experience. Gatsby's Prime Steakhouse is a restaurant I hadn't heard of before my friend's birthday dinner there. The inside is well decorated, very clean and tables are nicely setup. It has a dark romantic feeling. We were seated with reservation right away and later guests were brought to our table. The staff was friendly. Our server Jessica was amazing! She made our experience so seamless and had great recommendations. Food - Delicious, well prepared, cooked to perfection and plated nicely. They heat your individual plate to like 400 degrees I believe. It's hot, but it's kinda nice that your food stays hot because that. Just be careful. I had the Delmonico steak, which is essentially a boneless ribeye. I had it medium and really enjoyed it with the sautéed blue topper. Creamed corn brûlée was not my favorite but I'm also not a creamed corned person. Oddly I didn't find it creamy enough, but my friends enjoyed it so no points deducted lol. The brussel sprouts I felt similarly about. They were good but nothing to write home about, but 2 out of 4 of us loved them. So again, no points deducted. The mac and cheese was really well done for a steak restaurant and I enjoyed the leftovers. I thought the whipped mash potatoes were divine. I wish I had more. But if you're not in to light airy whipped, you won't like these. OMG, I almost forgot the appetizers. The sautéed shrimp with the bread and sauce soooo good! I wish I could have taken the extra sauce home lol. And the deluxe deviled eggs were the best elevated deviled eggs I've had. I would get them again. Drinks - we had the strawberry lemon drop with tequila. Note they're pretty expensive for what you get so be ware. But they were really good. Parking - Valet only or maybe street parking. The valets were super nice and helpful. My valet thought I left the earrings I meant to wear in the car and flagged me down to be sure I didn't need them. I thought that was awesome. The valet is right in front of the restaurant but if you're coming from the opposite direction, you'll probably end up in the back parking lot. We decided to indulge in Gatsby's for a Thursday evening ladies dinner. Upon arrival I quickly realized that they only parking you could do is Valet ($10) because it's on a main busy street. Upon entering we were greeted rather quickly and sat right away per our reservation time. The waiter quickly brought water and told us a bit about the restaurant. Wanting to take risks we ordered Oysters for the table. Personally it was my first try and while the crème sauce and crunch was amazing the texture of Oysters were not for me. I went here for the second time earlier on this hot, sunny day. I ordered a Prime NY Strip cooked rare, a glass of Sparkling Rose' Wine and Bread Pudding for dessert. The steak and dessert were awesome, high quality, very moist and very delicious. The cold, crispy, carbonated pink wine was very refreshing with a great melon type of taste holding ideal acidity. Great on a summer day and with a savory hunk of meat. My strip was very well-seasoned with their unique spice style and very beefy in the middle. It had a deep inner redness as rare should have with a crusty outer layer. It was certainly tender, slightly firm simultaneously, terrific in marbling to leanness ratio and very juicy in every bite. The seasoning was consistent all the way through and had a slight mix of heat, smokiness, saltiness, tartness and sweetness in all the right ways adding a very interesting flavor profile to this top notch cut. No gristle, no dryness and no bland parts. Just like I loved the flourless chocolate cake last time for dessert, I also loved this bread pudding for dessert this time. It was very tasty, doughy and gooey with plenty of milkiness throughout. This dessert contained some mild spices, just enough sweetness, chocolate, raspberry sauce and ice cream. Unfortunately the Delmonico Ribeye wasn't all that flavorful, to pay that much money for a mediocre steak is not worth it and a waste of money that could've been spent on a better steak. Went here for dinner for Houston restaurant week this evening. The restaurant itself: The outside looks nice as you pull up. Oh and it's $8 to valet park btw. The decor of the interior of the restaurant was nice but it's very cold inside so it's best to take a small jacket or sweater with you. What I ordered: 1st course: wedge salad -good. Crisp iceberg lettuce, bits of bacon, tomato and tasty house ranch dressing 2nd course: very good 8 oz medium rare sirloin steak with truffle butter Sides: mashed potatoes- ok but were a little watery and didn't have much flavor; other side: expensive way over priced FIFTY dollar lobster Mac and cheese. Yes I said $50, for very salty flavorless Mac n cheese with rubbery lobster. Somehow my friend and I didn't realize it was so expensive. They have the regular Mac n cheese right next to it on the menu for $14 so it's easy to mix up the prices of the two.I think I was thinking a small Mac n cheese was $14 and a large was $25 bc to be honest I could not recall $50 being anywhere near the Mac n cheese options on the menu. Btw they charge you extra for the sides. They are not included in the restaurant week pre-fixe price. 3rd course: red velvet cake with a side of vanilla ice cream which was very good and a good portion size. Overall the steak and dessert were the stars and the sides were terrible. Service:Other than our waitress, the service at the restaurant was great, from outside with the valet to inside as you walked around. Everyone greeted you with kindness. Our waitress tho, although not horrible, seemed like she had a slight attitude and you felt like you were bothering her if you asked her for anything. All the stars are just for the steaks. The Porterhouse and Wagu filet and were amazing: thick cut, tender, well seasoned, perfect level of doneness, and served on a hot plate. Those were quality pieces of meat and definitely worth the price tag. However, the sides were disappointed. We ordered mac & cheese, mashed potato, creme brûlée corn and sautéed mushroom. I only liked the creme brûlée corn (cream corn with brown sugar on top). Everything else were too salty. Appetizers were delicious enough but not impressed. We got maple glazed bacon, deluxed deviled eggs, and crab cake. Crab cake was too creamy for my taste. I prefer delightful and fresh taste of seafood, especially if it's a good quality piece. I added oscar to my steak, thought it would be just crab lumps, but I got a non-pan-seared version of crab cake (again very creamy). Overall I highly recommend their steaks. read more

Came here to meet some clients for dinner. Even though I live just a 5 minute drive away, I had zero clue this place was here. I am happy to say that this place is really good! Parking is valet only, and you drop your car off on the Northbound side of Montrose Blvd, just in front of the front door. I started with an old fashioned, it was great! For appetizer we ordered the deluxe deviled eggs. Let me tell you that the shrimp that comes on top was SO GOOD! I don't generally like anything fried but I literally could eat an entire bowl of just the shrimp. LOL. I ordered the wagyu filet with truffle butter, cooked medium rare. OMG mouthgasmic!! It is one of the best filets I have had here in town and reminded me of a steakhouse I ate at years ago in NOLA. For sides we got mac n'cheese, which was good (and I don't typically like it), brussel sprouts (excellent), and creamed corn (excellent and great presentation). Getting my car was quick and easy. Very good portion, also comes with a few fried shrimp & peppers. My only critique is I would've liked 2 sauces, maybe an aioli type. Main: we shared the rack of lamb, whipped potatoes & Brussel sprouts. Everything and I mean everything was good. While I'm not a big fan of brussels, they were sautéed with bacon so I enjoyed them. What a fabulous and classy steakhouse! This is Houston's newest steakhouse located in the montrose area and they didn't disappoint. I dined here this past weekend and enjoyed my experience. Valet was prompt coming to our vehicle upon arriving and I loved the classy ambiance when I walked in. Plush red seats, chandeliers with black and gold accents on the walls. Totally reminiscent of the Jazz Age. Our waiter was Jessica, she was such a sweetheart and explained the menu to us so that we were well versed with the selections. The crème brûlée was delicious! The crab cake was not lump but it was OK. The interior was a little wet, but the flavor was still good. Their steaks are cooked well but could use a bit more seasoning. I was not a big fan of the sides. Yeah I'll be on was very masculine and dark. Parking is a bit inconvenient. On the other hand service was very good. If I return, then it will be for the crème brûlée. read more

We had a wonderful birthday dinner at Gatsby's last night. It was everything we were looking for in a traditional steakhouse dinner and more! We enjoyed delicious cocktails (Old Fashioned, Martini) with appetizers: steak tartare, raw oysters with an amazing array of sauces, and baked oysters. The Entree was a perfectly cooked Pittsburgh style rib eye topped with jumbo prawns and lobster tail. Desserts were raisin-free (yay!) bread pudding creme brulee and a birthday gift from the chef - banana key lime pie. The food was amazing, but the real gift was our server, Jessica. She is extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the cocktail and food menus, as well as the wine list. Jessica recommended trying a scotch Old Fashioned that was delish! She helped us to order a wonderful selection of dishes without over-ordering (not easy to do). Throughout our relaxed, evening, Jessica was present and engaged without ever being invasive. In a world where old school levels of service are disappearing, it is a treat to be guided through a true dining experience by a seasoned, educated professional. Thank you, Jessica. We had a good dinner at Gatsby's for our anniversary. I had been wanting to try it for months and am glad we did. The menu is fairly diverse, and we enjoyed our food. The spicy crab poke had a really good spice and sauce. My wagyu filet was fantastic and cooked very well, just maybe a little salty. The seasoning was good though. My boyfriend's steak was cooked medium instead of medium rare as he asked, but he enjoyed it. The wild mushrooms were good, and he had Brussels sprouts with his meal. I got the Bramble, and he got the Old Fashioned. Our bill was pretty high at the end, but I think it was worth it. Our server, Simon, did a great job. The place was fairly quiet compared to other steakhouses which was nice. I would consider going back. read more

Gatsby's offers solid, delicious steak dinners. I'll say that my steak was juicy and tender, obviously expertly cooked, just the way I asked. But the real showstoppers were the sides: the mashed potatoes and creamed corn were just mouthwatering--so good. If you have the time, I really liked the red velvet cake but might opt for trying the flourless chocolate cake next time instead. Frankly, B&B Butchers is still my favorite Houston steakhouse, but Gatsby's is a solid, quality choice if your'e looking for a delicious steak. read more

I will request her for the next times we go. The restaurant is decorated nice it small and quaint. I liked the crowd as well Food: We ordered a lot lol we wanted to try the whole menu!! For starters husband got a Caesar salad and a crab pattie. I got a crab cake oh so delish with the side sauce. I got a heirloom tomato cheese salad it was great. Spent my thanksgiving here with a friend and everything went great! First I want to start with acknowledging the outstanding service. The bartender working that night and the server was the best! The bartender made my drinks delicious and strong. My server was super nice and helpful. He made sure everything was good and he was super attentive. The ambiance is quite tight but also gorgeous. We ordered the thanksgiving special, which was really good. I just wish my food came out hot. The fried deviled eggs on the appetizer menu was also really good! The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Mac n cheese - definitely not my favorite. It was way too cheesy (like overbearing CHEESY) and it had no flavor, plus I personally am not a fan of breadcrumbs on Mac n cheese. Others than that, I definitely would recommend visiting!
