It honestly felt like the entire restaurant was reserved just for us that evening, which made our anniversary dinner feel even more intimate and special. The ambiance was beautiful and dark, dim lighting with such an elegant and relaxing vibe that instantly set the tone for a perfect date night. Whether you're planning a romantic evening, girls' night, or even just drinks with friends, this spot definitely creates the perfect atmosphere. We also heard they have live bands at times, which would make the experience even more amazing. We started the night with a bottle of red wine ("Jam Jar) I Love it! along with an Old Fashioned and a smoky Old Fashioned, both crafted perfectly. For appetizers, we had the greens and collard greens along with the turkey eggrolls, and they were absolutely delicious. For dinner, I enjoyed the steak with a loaded potato and salad, and every bite was flavorful, fresh, and cooked perfectly. My husband truly enjoyed his meal as well. We even ordered the oxtail macaroni and cheese to-go, and it did not disappoint! A special shoutout to our waiter, Javon, who was knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely cool throughout the evening. He made sure we had everything we needed and helped make our anniversary dinner even more memorable. As far as the food, I would say that it was just Mid and very moderate. I think the prices are very overpriced. Based on the portion of the food a side of rice was $18. My lychee blush was also pretty good, and most of my party enjoyed their food (the oxtail ramen and calamari were solid). I had the salmon over mashed potatoes. It was good, but I did not like that substitutions were not allowed. I would have preferred a vegetable instead. Service is where things fell off. We waited about 40 minutes for food, and only half of our table was served at first. It also took a long time to get the bill, and we had to ask multiple times while holding our to-go boxes. I also didn't like they didn't mention anything about the happy hour to us and seemed confused when we mentioned it to them. & what actually was on happy hour was very unclear. A few girlfriends of mine came into town during the week. They chose Doves as a belated birthday celebration for me. Location was easy to find. Street parking can be a bit hard to find, so I opted to do the valet parking for $15. It was basically just a small parking lot where you park yourself, but just pay and leave your keys with the attendant. It was a short walk to the front of the building to get into the restaurant, so that was nice. Food wise we chose to start with the shrimp appetizer and we all liked it. Good flavor and good shrimp size. For entrees, I did the salmon. It was a little on the dry side but flavors were good. My friends did the lamb chops, sea bass, and the orange chicken. The lamb chops were great, the sea bass was some of the best I've had, and the orange chicken looked fantastic. For drinks, I did an espresso martini and the Christa Dior which were both great. My friends did some sort of mocktail and they both loved it. The decor is really cute, music is just right, and the service was amazing. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The food ranges from a minimum of $40 and up. I ordered the Opelousas pasta and it was good, portion was a bit small, but overall good. Drinks start at $12 and up. They include a gratuity on your bill if you get a table, no matter how many people. Only complaint is that the music is played so LOUD every time they announce someone's birthday, anniversary or special event. You literally have to yell to talk to anyone in those moments. Valet is $15 and they ask for a tip when paying upon leaving. It is hard to leave the parking lot, because the cars that cannot fit in the small parking lot are parallel parked on both sides of the street making it a one way street when leaving. The restaurant is small, two levels, and patio dining. The restrooms are unisex and there is a male bathroom attendant. He provides you soap and a paper towel for drying your hands. There are mints, gum, and mouthwash for use. I am not sure if it is complimentary or a charge. There is a jar for tips. The standard restroom stalls are small. Your knees touch the door when sitting. The restaurant decor is nice and chic with warm lighting throughout. The stairs to get to the second floor is slippery. There is no elevator for handicapped patrons dining on the second floor. Once on the second level there is a DJ who was playing good music that night. The upstairs is narrow and gives an intimate dining feel. There also was a costumed dancer on a platform downstairs that night. My friend had reservations for 8:45pm on a Saturday. We waited for an hour before being seated. We had to continue to ask for an update on our table at the hostess stand. They kept saying they were waiting for a large party to leave. Therefore, I am not sure if there is a dining time limit of 2hrs here. People kept coming in who did not appear to have reservations and were being seated before us. Once seated our waitress was friendly and efficient. Her name was Unique. We ordered various dishes for the table gumbo, general Wilson's wings, étouffée wonchos, orange chicken, hoisin smokehouse ribs, and Brussel sprouts. The gumbo in some of the women's opinion was watery and lacking flavor. The orange chicken batter was too thick. The Brussel sprouts were dry and could use more sauce. The étouffée wonchos were lacking flavor. The best dishes were the wings and the ribs. The dishes were pricey especially entrees. I recently visited Doves on 4/26/26 at 5:00pm for a birthday dinner with a party of seven, and unfortunately, the experience was very disappointing. To start on a positive note, our waitress was absolutely amazing, attentive, kind, and professional. She was truly the highlight of the evening. However, the overall experience was overshadowed by poor management and several service issues. One of the guests ordered the oxtail mac and cheese. While it looked great when it arrived, the taste was overwhelmingly salty. To be sure, several of us tried it, and we all agreed it was excessively salty. When the manager, Adrian, came over to address the concern, his response was dismissive and unprofessional. Instead of listening, he immediately insisted the dish was fine because it had been "selling all day." When asked if he personally tasted it, he admitted it was "slightly salty," yet still downplayed our feedback. What was most off-putting was his approach to resolving the issue. He stated that if we ordered a replacement dish and didn't like it, we wouldn't be allowed to send it back. That policy, especially when paired with his tone, felt unreasonable and unwelcoming. There were also additional concerns. When it came time to pay, we were told that if paying with cash, we should bring the exact amount because they do not provide change. That was surprising and inconvenient for an establishment positioning itself as upscale. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we expected at least a small gesture, something as simple as a dessert acknowledgment. Nothing was offered until we specifically asked, at which point a brownie was brought out. While appreciated, it felt like an afterthought rather than genuine hospitality. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations. Between the management's attitude, lack of flexibility, and service gaps, I left feeling disappointed. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. Wow was this place yummy! We had the opportunity to stop in a few weeks ago and I forgot to post this review. We are trying a new brunch spot once a month and were so happy to have tried Doves. The restaurant is gorgeous and the service was great. I do have to say we were a bit underdressed compared to all the beautiful ladies in their best dresses so make sure to step up your wardrobe game when dining there. However that didn't stop our server from being so nice and attentive. We tried the different flavors of mimosas but all ended up ordering the chicken and waffles which were some of the best I've ever had.
