    Lamb chops, tagliatelle with prawns

Fresh, inventive, flavorful food in an intimate setting on one of the charming side streets of Alfama. I wanted to find a special restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday and I made the right choice. Waiter/owner Werner charmingly guided us through the menu. The lightly pan-fried prawns with garlic sauce were perfectly seasoned and delectable. I couldn't stop smiling as I ate it. The pork cheeks braised in red wine were intensely flavorful and tender, but not overwhelmed by the wine. We also had the special--an amazing dish of white beans stewed with seafood--I would be hard pressed to choose my favorite of the three dishes. Mario, the owner/baker, made a lovely orange tiramisu and a very creamy light lemon cheesecake which ended the meal perfectly. We came back again to try the black pudding with pineapple---an excellent choice of complementary flavors. We also had the succulent lamb chops which had an excellent sauce. I would have preferred the lamb to have been more rare, but I realize the pieces were quite thin. We also had the perfectly prepared tagliatelle with prawns in a delicate, creamy red sauce. You can tell when a restaurant is run by people who put their heart and soul into their food. This is one of them. Bravo Werner and Mario!

Was in the neighborhood after catching night sky at La Gracia. Happened on this cozy bistro and got a table outside. Shared a Greek Salad, Chicken Wings, Bacalao, and Grilled Shrimp. All delicious and well seasoned. Had room for a homemade orange tiramisu. Wonderful! The restaurant has a cat theme, nice seating and lighting. Couple running the place are friendly and speak great English. Highly recommend!

    Pasta with sardines

Quaint little restaurant with charming outdoor seating, especially at night with the glow from the illuminated bell tower of the nearby church overhead. We were served by a friendly and attentive waiter. Our food was delicious. We started with an excellent sweet potato soup. My pasta with sardines was unforgettable. My wife enjoyed the lamb with mint and the caponata. Wonderful overall experience and I would be back regularly if I lived in Lisbon.

Visited this restaurant last year and then again at the beginning of this year just before Covid lockdown. Food is absolutely phenomenal. Had the prawns and the sea bass delish. Also the red sangria the best I've tasted. The staff very friendly will travel again to Portugal from the US just to eat here.

Tiny stop for cheese and wine. Had dry white Port. Prices very reasonable and service friendly and quick. They appreciate your business. The cheese was ripe and just right. The wine was good at the price.

    Great Ambiance and good presentation.

My wife and I enjoyed our last meal in Portugal at Gato Pardo and we both agreed we saved the best for last. The cozy little restaurant and friendly and attentive staff made for a special evening. But the real stars of the show were the garlic shrimp, grilled sea bass, saltimbocca and sangria. Give it a try, you will be glad you did. Cheers!

Shrimp with garlic pepperoncini sauce. There were more shrimp originally.

I absolutely adored the atmosphere here. The waiter was phenomenal and friendly. The food was home cooked delicious. In fact it was the best Portuguese food we had in Lisbon. I ordered the sausage with nettles, and my boyfriend got the shrimp with garlic pepperoncini sauce. The sauce that his shrimp came in was incredible! I am going to try and make it when we get home. The sausage was really tasty too. Like a chorizo but actually good I'm not keen on them typically. Just overall a lovely lunch in a beautiful area.

Pastries de Bacalhau - the crust was not brown enough. May be longer time. The stuffing was flavorful but it's more the cod taste than the flavored mash potatoes which I prefer. I actually prefer the other local restaurant I tried the night before better. Caldo Verde - The potatoe part of the soup is great. Perfect viscosity but the flavor is not. It wasn't salty enough but more importantly is the flavor of the veggies and the spicy sausage they supposed to use that makes the soup taste different. Grilled giant pawns - The flavor of the prawns is not as intense as expected and hope to be. The squid ink pasta also lacked of flavor. That's disappointing. With the prawns, they should at least use the prawn shell to make sauce for the pastas. The pasta was tasteless, didn't even use enough garlic and olive oil to flavor it up. Seafood rice - Another disappointment. They used fish, small mussels and little bit of shrimp pieces along with some bigger whole shrimps and mussels. However, the rice was lack of the true seafood flavor that made from shell fish. They also added cilantro which overwhelmed the whatever left of seafood flavor. The lemonade was not a sweet lemonade but sour. Fyi. It's not fair we just went to another restaurant in the neighborhood and everything was so much better but people should know.

It's rotisserie chicken doused with a spicy hot sauce so what's not to like? I knew it was a Portuguese-originated dish, so I looked for a place famous for it. Here on a Sunday evening, there was quite a queue extending up the cobblestone alley, so I realized this must be the place. Although it was at least thirty people deep, it didn't take more than twenty minutes for Jamie W and me to secure a table upstairs. It was a homestyle dining room set-up that hovered between cozy and crowded depending on the fluctuating volume level. Interestingly all the servers were male, and while ours was the most junior, he consciously followed the behavior of his veteran brethren. There was no question about our main course, the 13,5€ Frango Assado No Espeto (Roast Chicken on the Spit) (Photo 7). It was tender and succulent enough albeit a bit under seasoned, all the more reason to pour a liberal dose of the piri piri sauce (Photo 8). Our sides were simple but shareable, the 3,2€ Batata Fritta (French Fries) (Photo 9) and the 4,3€ Salada Mista (Mixed Salad) (Photo 10). Both were fine, though we really wanted to try their Cream Spinach. They were already out of it in the kitchen. We were quite satisfied nonetheless, and their service pretty much worked like clockwork. Jamie and I agreed we'd definitely come back if the passion for poultry strikes us on a return trip to Lisbon. In the meanwhile, I'll just do a run to Costco, buy a rotisserie chicken, and dream of Portugal. He will talk to you for hours and teach you about food and wine and culture and talk about the history of food and how it came to be in Portugal. I loved it. I learned so much. I aspire, as an American, to learn from and look up to other cultures. I feel very honored to have dined in a restaurant managed by him on our trip to Portugal. I'm going to recommend to our travel coordinator to add this restaurant to the Google map recommendations list because more people need to go to this place - they need more tables, more space, because I'm convinced this is such a hidden gem that should be exposed to the masses to enjoy! We visited several wineries and this restaurant had the best wine - bar none! The fish, a fish I hadn't tried before, was deliciously seasoned, falls apart with the fork, the creamy rice was just divine. I normally will never eat little cherry/grape tomatoes - ever - but the perfect bite of fish, creamy rice, and a tomato was... perfection. The menu is deeply curated; flavors - textures - wines that make sense. You can tell Frederico what you normally like and he 100% knows what wines he has that you will love. The tomato, orange, ham, salad, was absolutely balanced and delicious. I'm so grateful that our first trip to Portugal we got to meet Frederico and dine with these wonderful people who love food and wine as much as us. I'll never forget it as long as I live. You will not be disappointed. Promise.

I started with the chorizo, which you cook yourself right at the table. For my main course I ordered the steak with eggs, and it was excellent. To finish, I had the crème brûlée for dessert, and it was also outstanding. Overall, a truly wonderful hidden gem in Lisbon. I cannot wait to return.
