I was excited to try out this place because it has a high Google rating. However, my experience didn't match what a lot of the reviewers praises. The two stars are for our server Charles, the kitchen staff did listen to our experience, and I met Anika Noni Rose (yes, Princess Tiana!). The space is gorgeous. The food was not good. Most of it was flavorless, not enough of a main ingredient, or overcooked. This was a reminder that for me that hotel food is hit or miss. You'll have to pay to park at the hotel or nearby. Don't go by the overall rating! Looks like some people have 3 starts but wrote nice things which is weird. My husband brought me here for dinner and it was great! The staff were friendly and our service was quick. I got the chicken pot pie soup and it was amazing; just what I was in the mood food. I tried my husbands burger and fries and both of them were also very good. It was my birthday and they gave me a slice of mud pie for dessert which was so sweet. Nice place for lunch. I visited Gathre for lunch during Burger Week. The staff were really friendly and they seated us immediately. The $8 Angus Burger was topped with smoked white cheddar cheese, smoked brisket Mac & Cheese, Blueberry BBQ Sauce, 2 large strips of bacon, and onion rings served on a brioche bun. The sandwich was a little top-heavy, but it was delicious! I don't know if they offer the "Blue Smoke Show" on their regular lunch menu. They offered a large amount of fries for an additional $4, and these were definitely worth it. They were hot and crisp. My only complaint is that my soda arrived in a skinny glass filled with ice. There was hair hanging from the mirrors and it was slow and weird. The French toast had some awful flavor that wasn't described in the menu. "Baking spice?!" Just a waste of a meal opportunity. My party of 3 had Sunday brunch at Gathre and loved everything about it--ambiance, options, service, and food. They'll also valet for $10 for 2 hours, which is a great perk. We had a salted caramel latte, milk, and water. The chocolate French toast shareable was incredible. My teen had the chicken and waffles (shareable) as his meal; it was plenty of food, the waffles were soft, and the chicken had a great batter and fry. Which, they seemed slightly understaff to manage tables with what seemed like two waitstaff with. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich and it came with fries. I liked that they offered ranch dressing with it. The chicken was tough to eat, seemed overcooked and not warm. The fries were ok many of those left over hard fries. Others at the table ordered brunch and were surprised that omelets didn't come with sides and said they were still hungry when they left. Everything was pretty good: ambiance was good, entrees were great (the pork chop is so tender), and the drinks (although they are pricey). What really lowered my review was the one of the hosts. The blonde was super nice and helpful, but the brown/black haired woman was very rude. The boy who brought our food out said it was a steak he was holding (it wasn't, but mistakes happen), and we told him we did not order a steak. When he started leaving our table, the lady got frustrated at him and us. She told us bluntly "you better make sure you're right because if I send this back to the kitchen you'll have to wait very long for your food"... like ok? I told her "He told us he has a steak for our table, and none of us ordered a steak" and she just rolled her eyes! Our wonderful waitress came over and told us that it was actually the pork chop I ordered- fantastic! It's all good, mistakes happen- but don't sass me and my family when we were given false info. It really rubbed me the wrong way. She folded silverware next to our table the whole time we were eating and it was uncomfortable since she had just been so rude to us... This newly opened restaurant is beautifully decorated. It makes a great brunch spot offering bottomless mimosas. Hot Chicken and waffles with sunny side up egg. The chicken was well seasoned and crispy. Extra syrup is needed. Greek Yogurt parfait fresh fruit and granola. Broadway breakfast two eggs, potatoes, toast sausage or bacon. Plant based sausage is available. Fig and goat cheese flat bread needed a more fig. I stayed at the Hotel Fraye. Requested a birthday surprise room service breakfast. Mr. Mcateer, restaurant manager, rolled in a very impressive breakfast cart. I've never had a manger bring me room service. It was very impressive. On that cart was a Cinnamon bun with a candle. He served it to my husband and from that point on he couldn't get rid of us. His hospitality is impeccable. Our last day we met the GM and he was also very attentive. Popular spot !! So I've gone for dinner & we didn't have the best experience, the food wasn't up to par at all. Honestly, I wouldn't have gone back but I've heard that their brunch was a lot of fun. They said the DJ played great music, it was like a party in there & they'd play rnb music as well. Recently we went on a Sunday for our friend's birthday brunch. She went to check it out beforehand & said they had a great time. Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience the day we went. There were only 3-4 tables that were there the same time we were there. We had a party of 16 or so. The DJ wasn't the best. We requested for more up beat songs like he played before when our friend went to check it out. I don't think he got it, I'm not sure if he was hungover or what, but we could tell he didn't want to be there. Definitely not a party atmosphere. The food was very mediocre, I got a salad with salmon. It was alright, everyone who ordered salad had to ask for extra dressing. Everything else was basic breakfast food. Most of us got the bottomless mimosas for $30 so everyone's tab ended up being around $70 with food. We were told their system was slow, so we each had to go up & pay for our tabs at the counter. At the end our server freaked out & asked who was going to pay for the water, she put the water all on 1 ticket. There were 5 orders of sparking water & 5 orders of still water that was $120. I understand paying for sparking water but why are we paying for still water? That was the first time we've ever paid for still water & if they were going to charge for that, they should've just put it on each ticket. This was such a great experience! This is definitely not your normal hotel restaurant. This place goes way above an beyond to make your visit magical. My mom and I share the same birthday so we decided to celebrate at Gathre. Miss Mikayla was a great server. She was very knowledgeable and provided great recommendations. I ordered the steak and while it came out a little more rare than I ordered, it was great. My mom ordered the salmon and said it was great. The restaurant manager was awesome and gave us two glasses of champagne to celebrate our birthday! I don't really drink so I only tried it, but it tasted great. She then brought out several bottles, which we later discovered were $9 each, a detail that was not communicated to us when we made the choice to have water for the table. Later in the evening, staff began refilling glasses using carafes, which would have been completely acceptable had we been informed of that option from the start. When we politely asked to have the $40 water charge removed, we were told that the server had "already helped us by providing a complimentary birthday dessert." I ordered the chicken and waffles, very a tasty! I don't like eggs so i substituted potatoes. I also split an order of the stuffed french toast I would recommend as well. As far as the atmosphere they had a DJ pretty good the music was not too loud so you could enjoy conversations at the table. The restaurant is super cute, makes for good pics.... The staff from valet, hostess and the waitress/ waiters were all so nice and friendly, making the experience even better! Again there was nothing bad I can say, my new favorite brunch spot! One of the managers Kevin, was so helpful in helping us book a last minute reservation for a party of 10 for a birthday celebration. There's a lounge on the rooftop that has live music in the evenings. We sat so long at dinner we didn't get to hang out there. Something to try next time. I stopped in on Friday night and there was a live band that was pretty good. Service was prompt but I did sit at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and I wish so bad that I could remember her name! The food was good. I had the Quail as well as the chicken. I wasn't a huge fan of the quail but the chicken was great with a little extra salt. Overall I'm intrigued enough to come back to try their brunch but will likely not be back for dinner. I actually tried coming a few weeks earlier, but arrived at 11:10 just to be told that they were already closed (their website says brunch ended at 11:30 so I wasn't quite expecting it and was kind of bummed. So the second time I went, I made sure to arrive in plenty of time. It was a Monday morning so the restaurant was pretty empty and we were seated quickly. The space was large and beautiful. My friend had a salted caramel cuban latte which was very good (probably the best part of the meal). We ordered the cinnamon roll and croissant sammy to split. The cinnamon roll was huge which was perfect for sharing, but we found that it could have used a little more icing giving its size. The sandwich came with a hash brown on the side which was super crispy and we enjoyed. Overall, though the cinnamon bun and the sandwich both tasted good, they were nothing special. In all, it was a pretty pricey place for average food and though the service was otherwise great, not sure I'd come back. read more

Gathre is located in the Fraye (Hilton) Hotel. It serves as their on property restaurant and bar. The service was lacking because it took 25 minutes to get a cup of coffee in the morning from the barista, and the kitchen was just as slow, and food came out missing add-ons. I ordered a side of scrambled eggs with cheese, and it came out without the cheese, and the eggs had been sitting under a warmer because they were hard on the top. The Avocado Toast is not fresh, as we were told it is a spreadable avocado that comes in a bag. The prices are hotel high and the food was average at best. The bacon and potatoes were very greasy. The best part of breakfast was the blackberry jam that came with the toast. I thought the decor was beautiful through the entire hotel, lobby, and restaurant. Sadly, I don't think I can recommend Gathre unless you are staying in the hotel and choose to only dine on-site. read more

I came here for dinner with two friends and had high hopes, but was pretty disappointed overall. While our server was friendly and personable, the service was not good at all. Not only did our food take over an hour to come out, but he rarely checked on us and would disappear for at least 20-30 minutes at a time. The restaurant was not at all busy, so we didn't understand why the food took so long or why our server wasn't any more attentive than that. We got the focaccia and Brussels for appetizers, and both were good. Of the three entrees we ordered, the pork chop was the best one, but it was still mediocre at best. I ordered the steak sandwich and could hardly eat it. I'm a runner so I'm always hungry and very rarely leave much food on my plate. I let my friends try it to confirm that it wasn't just me, and they agreed that it was pretty bad. If the food hadn't already taken so long, I honestly would've considered sending it back. I was thankful that it came with steak fries because these were really good and helped fill me up. My other friend ordered a Caesar salad with steak that had barely any dressing. At this point, she didn't bother asking for extra dressing because of how long everything was taking. This dining experience from start to finish ended up taking 2.5 hours. When we got the checks, I chose to pay with cash, but did not tell the server to keep the change. He did not bring any change back and instead kept everything as his tip. My friends and I found this very off putting and presumptuous of him to assume that I intended to leave all of the change as his tip, rather than giving me the option to leave what I wanted. Despite the bad service, they had still been planning to leave 20% (which would've been very generous) until this happened. Redeeming factors: the ambiance was great and it was beautifully decorated, and our drinks were good. If we ever came back, it would just be for a drink and maybe an appetizer! read more

The doughnuts were good but I prefer fluffy over cakey, so my wife liked them more than me. She got the BLT and it was so well created. The aioli sauce, fries, bacon were excellent. The bread was good but not spectacular. The coke needed to be served in a larger glass for sure. There was guacamole on both dishes and it was prepared just the way we like it. I came to this restaurant for a brunch with family and my fiancé for my birthday this past weekend. I was excited to try it out as it was aesthetically pleasing inside and the dj brunch was a cool aspect. We were sat at our table and then waited to even be greeted by a server. When she did come by she took half of the tables drink orders while we waited for the other half of the party. We didn't get water or our drinks until a different server came to our table to take care of us. There was no explanation of why we had a different server. Our orders were taken and then we waited more for our food. The restaurant did not look busy from where we were sitting and we watched tables that were sat after us get their food before us. When we did get our food, two people in my party had orders that weren't cooked well. They had to remake scrambled eggs twice and the other order was taken back completely. Service was slow and inconsistent. For such a small space, there were PLENTY of servers and my friends and I sat water-less and needing a refill for quite a while. Server kept bringing plates and silverware with no navigation of the experience. There was NO interaction from the server. There is a disconnect between what kind of dining experience they're doing for. For example, cleared before each course but didn't engage with the table. Didn't run food. More than likely will not be back as a local and foodie. BUT fine place for a nightcap if you get in late and happen to be staying in the hotel, I guess.
