A very cute rooftop restaurant and bar at the Conrad. We were helped very quickly and I loved that we could sit wherever we wanted. We got some small bites for dinner which included the Spicy Salmon Crispy Rice, Cheeky Gordita Crunch, and T&R Burger. The crispy rice salmon and Gordita were okay, but the relish and pickles on the burger were really sweet and complimented the burger really well. We also ordered the Diskin Cider which is a local cider, and the White Lotus, a zero-proof cocktail. The cocktail had a really good Smokey flavor that paired with the orange and coconut cream. The staff were really friendly and helpful with suggestions for food and drinks to order. I think this is a great staple when visiting Nashville. read more

So, if you read my review of Blue Aster, the question of where my friend and I were shunted off to is... Thistle & Rye. Upstairs the BA, T&R offers a relaxed lounge experience with cocktails and views. The issue was: we were here at noon. For brunch. Starting to see the issue? Being that we were told to go to a lounge rather than enjoy the brunch reservation I made was rankling to begin with. Making the journey upstairs to find a (rightfully) closed space in which we were the only people was even more frustrating. So... four stars? How? Because David swooped in to fix a mess he didn't make. He was apologetic, courteous, friendly, and helpful... even to an audience (me more than my friend) who wasn't in the mood. He tried his level best to make things better but dietary restrictions, a menu not accustomed to breakasty items and guests who would rather be anywhere but there is a hard situation. As I mentioned in my BA review, my friend and I hadn't seen each other in ten years so we (she more than I) determined to play the cards we were dealt. We talked, laughed, caught up, shared photos, and looked around at the venue that (in another time) we'd enjoy doing all of the above over drinks. Despite the diet issues, she ate the food David was able to whip up. I did not. I was too annoyed to eat (plus, you know, diet issues and the like). To my surprise, our meal was comped and accompanied by yet another apology from David for something he had nothing to do with. Appreciated. While I will never return to Blue Aster, I have to recognize the tenacity of someone opening his doors hours earlier than expected, to serve a couple (who weren't in the greatest of moods) while staying professional, courteous and kind. He must have been a boy scout. That level of hospitality is worth shouting out.* *I tried returning to T&R when a friend of mine was staying at the hotel but it was closed. read more

TLDR: Ambiance was great, our apps and drinks were good. Gets a point for good service, loses a point because our simple orders took incredibly long (did get comped tots for that though). My wife and I treated ourselves to a night out for Valentine's Day (though on the 16th). We had a resy so they sat us and immediately grabbed our orders. We managed to get Happy Hour orders in just in time and it was pretty dang well priced. My wife got the Mocha Matcha Dream and I got their Happy Hour cocktail, which was an old fashioned (right up my alley), as well as the Cassava Fries. My drink was well balanced and delicious; my wife's was too, once it got to her. Main complaint about everything was the time; her drink came way after mine and our fries took so long they brought us out free sweet potato tots as we were waiting. The sweet potato tots were honestly delicious, better than the fries by far. We didn't get anything else, so I can't comment on the burgers or others things. Both Christian (our server) and Cooper (I think that was the manager's name) were polite and helpful. Mainly, it loses a point for timelineness of our orders. My husband surprised me with a date night to thistle and rye to celebrate six months of marriage! It was a lovely experience. The restaurant is located on the third floor of the Conrad hotel. Discounted valet is available (and is super friendly and prompt!). It is a positive experience right from the start. We started our meal with seasonal cocktails inspired by a French 75. Absolutely delicious! We loaded up on small plates and loved them all. Out of the Brussels, tuna tostada, shishitos, and galbi, the galbi was my favorite! They have a mix of Asian, Mexican and American flavors. All bites are shareable so plan to get a few options from the menu to sample around. The service was incredible and friendly. The highlights of the menu included: Pork Bao Buns, Sticky wings, Spicy tuna temaki, KFC (cauliflower), and Brussel sprouts. For cocktails, We ordered a Ms. Foxy (Whiskey sour inspired) and a Mrs. Murdock (Gin gimlet inspired) and both were delicious. We ordered the Pinot Grigio for our spicy and seafood dishes. And ended the night with the Fonseca Port for dessert! What I will say is in the OpenTable description, I did not notice that it was basically only tapas and not other dishes and that surprised me. As a hotel guest stopped here for pre dinner drinks on two separate occasions. They do have happy hour from 4 to 6 daily, which includes a special menu of apps, a drink of the day, and craft beers. The bartenders are friendly and attentive. The drinks are phenomenal- even if not staying at this hotel I highly recommend coming for a happy hour or night cap. Mixology is their strong suit. Stopped in for a snack while waiting for our room. So happy we did. We had a few of the happy hour dishes and loved all 3 of them. I'm not a Brussel sprouts fan but these were . The sauce was delicious and it had some of the crispy burnt ends that were amazing. I'd get this again and again. The Bao Buns were done really well too. Full of flavor and the meat was tender. Perfect! Sticky wings were sooo good. Perfectly cooked and the sauce was great. We had dinner that evening at another restaurant and I was still thinking of these wings! Service was good. Our waiter was attentive at first. When it was time to get the bill it got a little hard to get her attention. All good though. As for the chicken and waffles, the chicken was battered well although a bit dry. It had a nice five spice flavor. The waffle was soft and lacking in pandan flavor. The only thing special about the waffle was the green color, but aside from that you wouldn't have known it was a pandan waffle. We just visited Thistle and Rye and I booked the snow globe experience . Truly one of the worst dinner experiences I have had in Nashville. We were overcharged (via Open Table). The only plus was our waiter. He was great! He was very helpful and very attentive. The food was average at best. The drinks were decent but we spent an absurd amount on appetizers here. We could've gone to Kayne Prime and spent the exact same for a nice steak dinner. Do not recommend. DO NOT RECOMMEND THE CHRISTMAS BAR/EXPERIENCE. Cant remember our servers name and he was very nice but he just did not come over to us at all. It took about 8/9 mins just for a glass of water and one of their food runners even came over and ask if we had been greated yet (he hadn't been he came back after she grabbed him) and then that continued the entire time that he was no were to be found which again it was empty and its a small place so idk what he was doing. My coworkers and I stopped in for happy hour after work a few weeks ago. We were initially disappointed by there being only one drink on the happy hour menu, but the food menu was more extensive. Someone in our party is gluten free and told our waiter about the allergy right when we sat down. There was confusion about what gluten is, which is understandable, but our waiter clarified with the kitchen. They brought out the dish without the side of fries (which contained gluten), but the waiter did not tell us that before bringing it out. When we asked for a replacement side, our waiter said the upcharge is too much for a different vegetable (brussel sprouts) but that we could get salmon tartare or kefta as a side instead. Then the waiter came back out after we were almost done with our meals to say they can actually make brussel sprouts as the side and brought some out a few minutes later. Once we all finished, the waiter brought out another side of brussel sprouts saying that the previous one he brought out wasn't gluten free. He asked what he should do, but we had already eaten them... the bill was not comped and they did not seem to care about the allergy or mess up on the kitchen/waiter's behalf. Needless to say, we will not be retuning which is a bummer because the food had potential to be good. read more
