I had an awesome time at Ellington's in Nashville. It is located inside the Fairlane Hotel and I chose this restaurant because it had more vegetarian options than the average restaurant. I made reservations online a week prior. We were greeted with smiles and placed at a table. That area was drafty and our waiter had no problem relocating us to a warmer area of the restaurant. There was a nice neo soul music selection going on the whole time, however I was told that this was random and the music selection changes. For such a nice elegant restaurant, I felt much more people should be there. Our waiter was awesome. He was a guy from New York. I wish I could remember his name though. He mixed us up a wonderful tropically sweet cocktail. It was a vegetarian dinner and the harvest risotto was the star of the show. It was so rich, creamy, savory, and the vegetables where crisp. The crispy brussel sprouts were not shy either with bringing on a punchy roasted caramelized slightly sweet and acidic flavor. The fettuccini with roasted vegetables was good in its own right, but the least flavorful. The atmosphere here was on point in a romantic way. The service was A+. The food was 5/5 and the prices were very reasonable relative to quality. I highly recommend giving Ellington's a try. read more

Wow! Just wow! A classic hotel lounge that drips with elegance and was probably way too fancy for me to be in, but I'm all about it! We sat at the bar and ordered a few cocktails and the Charcuterie to nosh on. Not only was it beautiful to look at, but it was filled with amazing meats, cheeses, fruit and other accompaniments. Perfect before a night out in town. Sitting at the bar was perfect as it was quiet, and the bartender was great with explaining their signature cocktails. I got the Last Word which has gin, luxardo maraschino liqueur, green chartreuse and lime. Super unique, and a great take on a gin based beverage. Second review - half a year later - food and service continues to be excellent. Party of three started with the pimento cheese app, delicious with the bagel chips. Entrees were filet with manchego potatoes, bone in pork chops with roasted potatoes and the chicken with gnocchi. Filet great, finest amount of potatoes ever but that's fine cause they were the saltiest. Despite being described as a petit filet it was huge so the portion size was great, cooked perfectly. Pork chops got great reviews. The chicken and gnocchi said the gnocchi was some of the best and really didn't even need the chicken. Waited 45 minutes on the patio for our food. The server said he was busy and kept making complaints to us. We ordered our first drinks, then when we got them our dinner. And after 30 minutes nothing and we hadn't even seen him. Finally ordered a second drink after catching him walking by and asked about our food and he said 5 minutes. He did give us bread for free (which honestly wouldn't be worth the 16 dollars if you order it, it's just average and the cheese dip is the same I got on the plane for less). But we also saw our drinks sitting inside for a while so as we went up to get them ourselves he finally brought our food. All in all, service .... bad. If we have to wait 45 minutes for our food, and the server complains to us??? Yeah, that is not right. Thanks for the bread though I guess. We were staying at the Fairlane Hotel and were skeptical about trying a hotel restaurant but let me tell you, the food is absolutely amazing, fantastic, and every other positive adjective you could think of. Detail is there, amazing taste, etc. The executive chef really knows what they are doing. However, I want to preface the above by telling you that a population of Yelp reviewers give less stars if the customer service is not up to par. I am not a part of that population. In summary, if the food is fantastic but the service is poor, I will give it top marks. That said, let me tell you about the "customer service" experience my colleagues had about this place during our dinner there: Our server, who you could tell was the head or primary server was extremely rude. Kind of like "I know the food is amazing here and you will wait so I can afford to make rude comments when you ask about your food status." We were sat at 7 pm-ish and did not get the main entrees until 930 pm-ish. The place was not packed - my group are numbers people and we estimated fairly at 30% capacity was there. We saw drinks we ordered at the bar lay there for around 20 minutes before our server took them to us (it's not a huge place). We joked about grabbing the drinks ourselves to help the server out and keep in mind people in our group were former servers; we were not being irrational people since we had former industry colleagues in the group. In summary, food is to die for but if you want to pair it with customer service, you won't be able to. read more

What a wonderful hidden gem in Nashville! Hidden on the fourth floor of a boutique hotel, Ellington's serves classic dishes with precision and a keen eye towards flavor. The roasted chicken and gnocchi is the ultimate comfort dish and the beet salad and bread service make for fail proof starters. Our group also had the risotto which was a little underwhelming, but still seasoned beautifully. Their cocktails and wine pairing are a little sparse but the atmosphere makes up for any limitations. Ellington's isn't reinventing your favorite dishes, they are just cooking better than you can imagine! read more

This place is an absolute embarrassment in every sense of the word. The food is made with outrageously low standards and the service is pathetic. After attempting to contact management a multitude of times to handle my issues discreetly and directly I was rebuffed over and over again. Promises to return phone calls never materialized and my emails went unanswered. Needless to say, I feel sorry for anyone who patronizes this establishment as they will surely leave unsatisfied. We went to their Alice in Wonderland pop Up first which was fun. My friend and I then went to sit at the bar here to have dinner. I ordered a glass of rose and my friend ordered a cocktail. My drink was fast my friends took over 30 mins. They only had one bar tender working and he was working his ass off but there was too much for him to handle. He was very nice and engaged with us. My friend and I shared the charcuterie and cheese board and the burger. The charcuterie and cheese was great. The burger sucked. The bun crumbled and fell apart. It was a small burger. As previous reviews mention, Ellington's offers a great happy hour menu! Prices are awesome, with food options for $5 and cocktails for $7. If I was only reviewing drinks, this place would've been easily 5-stars. The Rosemary Collins and Cucumber Gimlet were both dynamite. What is lacking was the food.. which could've easily just been what we ordered. The Hot Chicken Deviled Eggs were pretty much just boiled eggs with a spoon full a chipotle mayo on top. The center of the egg was not mixed as you would expect with a traditional deviled egg. Could've been a personal preference, but it just wasn't good. We didn't order any additional food items so I'm not sure if other items are better. Hard to judge the atmosphere during COVID, but I would expect summers to be really cool with their outdoor space. I'd recommend definitely checking out the happy hour drinks and other food items, the prices really make it worth stopping in.o read more

As somewhat of a foodie, I was excited to try Ellington's on a recent trip to Nashville. We got there maybe 15 or so minutes early and the host asked us to have a seat at the bar as they were seating right on time. So, we sat at the bar and ordered a lovely drink and waited. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Apparently the host stand forgot about us completely, despite us trying to flag them down. Finally we gave up and decided to just eat at the bar. Anyway, the food was delicious, and the bartender (sorry I forgot his name!) was awesome! I think we got MUCH better service at the bar and the people watching was way better there. Plus the cocktails were interesting, complex, and very well-made courtesy of aforementioned awesome bartender. We had delicious roast chicken and gnocchi, and porchetta with cacio e pepe pasta. While everything was VERY tasty, our favorite was actually the cornbread with sorghum butter. It was simple, just a little sweet, and had us dreaming of more for the rest of the trip. Decent food, bad service, overall disappointing. My parents were visiting from out of town so I wanted a nice dinner out to celebrate my dad's birthday. Dad ordered Bacardi, server went to the bar and came back and said sorry we don't have Bacardi, so Dad asked ok what other types of rum do you have? Server just said, "um idk." Not, "I'm not sure but let me check." Or you'd think if you're already at the bar, you'd check what other types of rum you had to offer an alternative. There were several other occurrences like that where the server just seemed untrained and clueless. They were out of 2 items on the menu that we ordered but server waited until after we ordered them to tell us. When the food came, it was good and we all enjoyed what we ordered. Not an amazing, memorable meal by any means, but good. I snuck away to ask the server to bring out a piece of cake after dinner for my dad's birthday.. but after clearing the dinner plates, the server brought out spoons and napkins to the table 10min before the cake. Like the cake was supposed to be a surprise and the server knew that, and he basically ruined the surprise by bringing the utensils before the cake. For the high prices you're paying, you expect not only fantastic food but a high level of service and attention to detail. This was severely lacking for a several hundred dollar bill. Tucked away on the fourth floor of the Fairlaine Hotel is Ellington's which boasts a retro 20's ambiance. While we weren't around in the 20s, we weren't getting 1920s pre-depression realness, unless Hotel restaurants of the era were the same vanilla-seen one- seen them all - average. From there, things picked up. A delightful mezcal old fashioned was a new trick on an old treat. The food was average at best. Nothing really interesting or noteworthy, and we really wanted it to be. With some much going on in the food scene on Nashville, we were really hoping for something special. This was our second attempt at dining here. The first time we couldn't because the heat was out, and we were directed to the deli in the lobby. In that visit they were out of most items. This hotel has so much promise. No. No. No. I'm pretty sad to leave this review but it should be known. First, we walk in the place is basically empty. And I'm already worried because it's in a hotel but I'm giving it a shot. Sat in the "bar" area in where the booths are. So the bar tenders had to come and serve us which wasn't bad but they had to leave the bar to come around and it was just wonky. The first guy bar tender was just so lax and loose he seemed like he just was there to be average. I'll explain. Ordered the Caesar salad and it was fine, nothing exciting. He split up the plates for me and my date and I didn't ask for that. Then says "well you have two forks to eat both." Uuummmmmm I can't. I ordered chicken and said I DO NOT want mashed potatoes and to sub them with the Brussels sprouts and jam. He repeated and said you know what hey when we get the chicken we get the Brussels sprouts I'm literally said that is exactly what I want with no mashed potatoes. My chicken was fine nothing go home about and I didn't get sick which was a plus. The shrimp and grits were also ordered thinking how can you screw up shrimp and grits. Well apparently you can. These grits were terrible and tasted like spiced dirt water. The shrimp was rubbery and tasteless. Whatever seasoning used was awful. They did take it off the bill and said they would also get dessert on them. Ordered the key lime pie because they were out of cheesecake. It was fine, but then I get the bill they freaking charged me for the dessert they said they were going to comp. I was about to lose it and just remained calm and paid it. The best thing about this place is on Sunday's it's half priced bottles of wine. Two stars for the effort and zero stars for the adding insult to injury of offering to comp dessert then charge. The most disappointing thing about this entire experience was, it was the last night in Nashville and we just had a rough experience. After our first visit back in October we left with a bad taste in our mouths, but we gave this place another chance and I'm glad that we did. It was a much better experience and everything was wonderful. We sat in the dining area away from the bar. When we first visited we sat right next to the bar, during happy hour, and it was very loud (one specific group that was there was awful), but this time it was peaceful as we sat nearly alone, right by the window with a nice view, and it was quiet. My wife and I ordered a total of 3 signature cocktails, 1 draft beer that was on tap, 2 appetizers, and 1 side menu option. Each one of the cocktails were tasty, with a wide range of ingredients, and they were all nice and strong. The beer was cold and wonderful as well. The cheese curds were fantastic, and not overly cooked as they were last time. They were perfect honestly. I loved the green goddess dip that was provided with them. The roasted cauliflower was really good as well, but the green side sauce needed a kick more flavor, but was still very good. The fried brussels sprouts were really good, even though I generally don't enjoy brussels sprouts! We had them put the bacon jelly on the side as I am allergic to bacon. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and went out of her way to make sure we had a good dining experience. The vibe of this place is far out! The ghosts of 1970 are alive here! The wood, the brass, the planters, the color scheme, the swank... the attention to period detail needs a shout out!! Mr Roeper night walk in any minute! (Three's Company reference, millennials) But the food is modern and fabulous! The watermelon and feta salad is one of my favorite dishes in The city. The roasted cauliflower is downright meaty. The diver scallops are large and in charge. The burger is a winner, and the fries are delightfully lightly kissed with a touch of lemon zest. The wine list is fairly priced (thank you) and the selections are fantastic. We had a rosè, a white and a red... all rave worthy. Dessert was a perfect ending... mud pie! My favorite was the fresh whipped cream. In nice weather, take a seat outside. Or enjoy live music inside. Can't go wrong either way. I love this restaurant. The interior is nicely decorated and it has a nice outdoor dining option as well. The cocktails are a particular high point for me--they are unique and well-crafted. I only gave this restaurant four stars for the following reasons: (1) because they make everything by hand, sometimes they are out of certain dishes because the prep for an essential item of that dish is incomplete (e.g., pasta); (2) the service is slower, which is okay in some circumstances, especially in a nice restaurant such as this, but if you're particularly hungry or are rushed for time, maybe try somewhere else; and (3) their brioche bread, while it had a good flavor, was especially dry. read more

This bar is tucked away on the 4th floor of this hotel. There is outdoor seating, which is nice when it's not too hot out. It's not rooftop seating but still nice to have. There are formal tables and some lounge chairs as well. Atmosphere is casual but felt upscale but didn't feel like that I didn't belong in my jeans. During happy hour, it's a happening spot! Half off of most drinks and appys. It's from 3-5p at the date that I'm writing this. We got cheese curds, olive tapenade and shrimp cocktail. All were wonderful. I'm giving a 4 out of 5 on this because it took about 20 minutes to get our drinks with no explanation. Our food came out before the drinks, which was super disappointing. A few friends and I went to Ellington's before a show at TPAC this week, and there were definitely some things I liked about it! But there also things I didn't. The good? Their happy hour has GREAT prices. A lot of happy hours in Nashville kind of suck? This one doesn't. Seriously discounted prices. All cocktails on their menu were half off. One house red (a red blend) and one house white (a pinot grigio) were half off. And all their beers were half off. HALF OFF. They had $2 oysters, and ALL THEIR STARTERS WERE $5. These are some real discounts. More good? The service was good. The wine and the cocktail I had were good. The restaurant is beautiful. Very Donald Draper walking in for a few martinis over his lunch hour. And it's really close to TPAC. There aren't that many dinner options walking distance to TPAC, so another option is good. I'm not huge at sweating through a nice meal, so you won't catch me on a patio until late September but for those of you who like to sweat and or don't sweat - they have a beautiful patio as well. The not so good? We decided to try ALL the starters (there are 7 of them) since they were all $5 (there were four of us). While some were better than others, only one really knocked my socks off. Here's what we had: warm olives with orange zest, roasted garlic and brioche (good, but it turned out that two of our party don't eat olives, and the other two of us coudln't eat the 100 olives that were in that bowl! way too many); piquillo peppers with queso fresco and chimichurri (okay); roasted cauliflower with togarashi spice, split pea puree, and ponzu (this wasn't a hit at our table); picked deviled eggs (this was the one - the one that impressed a lot - despite the fact that I'm not a deviled egg eater generally!); cheese curds with green goddess (okay - sort of bland cheese that could have been string cheese rather than a real cheese curd and I wouldn't be surprised); pork loin with white bbq sauce (I think that was the least favorite at our table - the pork seemed really dry and tough and bland); and a cold shrimp dish (I can't describe this one, because it wasn't on the menu, but it was one of the better starters in my opinion; the 7th starter on the menu was a feta with olive oil, thyme, and watermelon, but that's not what we got; all of our group ate shrimp, but I think they probably should have let us know that one of the dishes was different than on the menu). Overall, the food was okay at best. I was certainly happy with the cost ($35 for all 7), but the food definitely wasn't good enough that I'd be excited to eat there for dinner (when entrees range from $20-42). Some of the dishes we had seemed a little too much like bar food for the location and the prices (if weren't happy hour) - cheese curds? In a place as decked out as this? The Fairlane Hotel is beautiful (this restaurant is on the 4th floor), but parking in this part of town is practically nonexistent, so you're going to have to valet out front or park in a nearby garage (I was parking for a show at TPAC anyway, so this wasn't such a big deal for me). (Note: we had a reservation for 4 at 5:30 on a Tuesday evening before Ilana Glazer's double header show at TPAC. We didn't need a reservation. The restaurant was still pretty empty when we left at 6:40.) The restaurant is beautiful. And the happy hour is great. I just didn't think any of the food was great unfortunately. read more

Dined here last night, and we were so excited to try it, but let down in a lot of ways. Pros: the food and drinks were excellent- can't take away from that. Both of us loved our cocktails - mine, the debt collector, was particularly unique - like a boozy smoky tiki drink- which I loved. We ordered the spinach salad to start, and the crab bucatini and ribeye for dinner. Everything was a sizable portion and delicious. Additionally, the ambiance was great - very 50s Queens Gambit vibes, which I loved. The pros sort of end there, unfortunately. The host seemed very scattered (like maybe she was new) and mixed up our party, took an exceptionally long time to seat parties, etc. Our server, Chris, was extremely negligent. It was clear to us after taking our drink orders that he wouldn't be the best, but we still had high hopes. After drinks, he nearly abandoned our table. We had to physically flag him down for more water, and our cocktails were empty for a good 15 minutes before we got his attention. He was spending his time cleaning off other tables, but neglecting the ones present in the dining room. It took about 1 hour from ordering our entrees for them to come out - which would have been fine, if he ever checked in on us and gave us an update, but after finishing our salad we were sort of left on our own. We were a two top with minimal ordering, ordered everything up front, and spend 1 hr 45 at the restaurant - would have been longer had we not physically waved him down multiple times. Now, My boyfriend and i work in the service industry and are very understanding of the stress and pressure that comes with it. But to go to a nice restaurant and spend hundreds of dollars, you expect the service to match, and it was extremely disappointing. Maybe it was a fluke with our server, so we told the manager, Casey, who wanted to make it right - but it's hard to come back from a service experience as negative as that. During Christmas, it was rather rainy one evening and there was a three hour wait to get into one of the Christmas Bar Pop-Ups downtown. We intended on going, but wanted to eat dinner in the meantime. We googled restaurants near by, and saw that the Fairlane Hotel had a restaurant AND another Christmas Pop-Up Bar as well, so we thought, 'sure, why not?!' This was around 8 pm, and there were not many people eating in the restaurant (these are pandemic times) and were seated almost immediately. Upon entering, Wellington's is an upscale restaurant with white linens, classy music, but without the snobbery like many upscale places around town. I hate myself for not remembering our waiter's name (young African -American man), because he was AMAZING! Outstanding customer service, wonderful wine and cocktail recommendations, and he let us take our time on ordering. It is rare that I enjoy everything that's ordered, but boy, were we pleasantly surprised! Our table ordered: 1. Crispy Fried Brie 2. Chilled Gulf Shrimp 3. Caesar Salad with Halloumi Croutons 4. Crab cake 5. Beef Tenderloin 6. Hanger Steak Frites (omg so good) 7. Meatballs We also had the recommended wines with our dishes! Second time visiting this place. Still a classy joint. The menu seems to have changed since my first time. Either way it is a solid place to check out. Great patio seating here. It's superb actually. Service was great. We had a few different drinks. Ryman, Black Manhattan, and Tattooed Lady. All great drinks. For food we had the "Steak for 2". Big tomahawk cut ribeye. I believe 36ish oz.
