My spouse and I chose Folk to celebrate our anniversary this year. It has been on my "to try" list for a few year and I was saving it for a special occasion. When we arrived, the host asked if we were celebrating, and our menus came out with "Happy Anniversary" printed at the top, which was a sweet touch. That was the only acknowledgment of the occasion for the rest of the evening. Our server never mentioned it, no other gesture was made, and for a restaurant at this price point on a night that mattered to us, that gap was noticeable. The menu changes seasonally, which I genuinely appreciate and think is worth noting. We started with a few things from their starters list. The asparagus and strawberry salad was a nice and fresh with pine nuts. It was light and well put together. The beef tartare was my favorite thing we ordered all night. It came out beautifully presented, served directly on sourdough, though the bread itself had very little or no toasting to it, so it leaned a little soft for my taste. Still, the tartare itself was excellent. Then there were the artichokes, and this is where the night started to turn. They were deep-fried with the tops cut off, which gave you some of the leaves and then the heart. With this cut, I assumed you din't need to eat is leaf by leaf and that the whole thing was editable. Apparently, this was true, but when I tried a significant portion of what was served was too fibrous and dry to eat. When I mentioned it to our server, the response was essentially that artichokes are just like that. A little later, they came back to say other tables had the same feedback and that it was a new menu item they were still working out. That was the end of it. Nothing was offered, nothing was adjusted on the bill, and it was never brought up again. For a largely inedible dish, acknowledged that it didn't hit the mark, that's a miss on the kitchen. We also tried one of their newer pizzas with a Calabrian chili preparation. The heat level was high with nothing to balance it out, and it just did not come together for us. At that point, the only thing that had genuinely hit the mark was my martini, which was well-made. We closed out and went elsewhere for dessert. I wanted to love Folk, and I came in hoping it would become a new favorite. Three stars because the concept and effort are real, and the tartare showed what this kitchen is capable of. Dare I say the best restaurant in Nashville. I love a restaurant with a versatile menu, shared style and a well balanced cocktail - Folk hit all these. We had 7:00 reservations on a Saturday, our server was hustling, the food was paced perfectly and they gave us some stunning suggestions. Great food, excellent service , ambiance and mediocre drinks. Dined here with a group of friends and service was spectacular. They helped elect and accommodated a menu to everyone's liking, We sampled a great portion of the menu and it all was really good. Really enjoyed the pizzas, asparagus and spring greens salad. The desserts were delicious. My favorite was the rhubarb sherbet with the buckwheat pizelle. The inside is warm, welcoming and lots of greenery. This is a must go to restaurant in Nashville! We ordered the focaccia and olives to start and they were so good. The focaccia is a must get. We also got the citrus salad which was good. For the main we had the margarita pizza which was off menu but really good. For dessert we got the tiramisu which was a skip for us. It wasn't authentic and seemed like it wasn't made with lady fingers. The service was great and the server was so attentive. The restaurant was super cute on the inside as well. The server came to our table promptly and let us know we could order from the happy hour menu for the next 5 minutes. (I love a deal as much as the next guy:) We ordered our appetizers from the happy hour choices and dinner off the main menu. The bottle of wine came from the happy hour menu and was a good one. We ordered multiple pizzas to share for dinner plus all the vegetable plates. The kale salad was a favorite here. The fall squash pizza is very good and the lamb pizza added spice to the meal. Overall, the food was just okay. Maybe it was overhyped, but it didn't hit the bar for me. They're known for their clam pizza which was interesting, but I wouldn't get it again. It was too wet for the crust and the clam overpowered everything else on it. The other pizzas were fine, but nothing blew me away. The crust was better on the pizzas I will point out. The vegetables were very good, the salads were refreshing and I appreciate a good kale salad. The appetizers were alright, not great but okay. I think I'd give this restaurant 10-stars if we could. Went there with our very discriminating (read, picky) family. And even though they weren't familiar with any of the foods... They loved it! Very delicious. The sweet potato falafel felt like a clever, cozy twist- crispy on the outside, hearty on the inside, with just enough warmth from the spices to make you lean in. The pizza - amazing! All the veggie dishes - resplendent! And the oysters- we don't even like oysters- but everyone loved those. I can't believe it took us so long to go to folk. I've been hearing about it for years and we finally went over the summer and it was better than I could have hoped. We order the littleneck clam pizza every. time. without hesitation. And anyone we've brought with us who visits into town, they loooove. Came here a while ago with a reservation on a Saturday. We were seated at high table near the window which was nice. The restaurant was otherwise pretty packed which had us super excited for a good meal. We wanted to taste a little bit of everything so my friend and I split a few items. To start we had the stracciatella which came with bread. The bread was fresh out of the oven and the stracciatella was stringy and delicious. We also had Caesar salad. This was super crispy and fresh with amazing toppings that added another layer of crunch. We then had the clam pizza which we heard is a specialty of the restaurant. We were somewhat disappointed by this though. We did not feel like the clam fit in well with the other ingredients on the pizza and overall just thought it was strange. We also had the Chicken Milanese. This was well breaded and fried/baked, but the sauce on top was a bit overpowering for the dish and didn't mix well with the tomatoes and chicken. Finally, we had the tiramisu which we loved as it was super light and fluffy. Overall, had just an okay experience here. We were impacted by flight delays and the restaurant was friendly and accommodating when I called to modify the time and number of guests for the reservation. McKenzie was our server - very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We enjoyed cocktails and mocktails and 6-7 shared items from the menu. Everting was great. Pizza, tuna, mussels and beer oh my! The best thing were the underdogs..the smoked mussels with dill. The flavors were light and creamy and so good! The blue fin tuna wasn't my fav with a lot of olive oil and small portions for the price. The pizza took about 20 minutes gap in between dishes to arrive. It was the good, the lemon was a bit heavy..the outdoor seating was nice and peaceful at night with lighting. My husband and I went for our 2 year wedding anniversary and when we walked in, they had personalized menus that said "happy anniversary" on them! Such a sweet little touch. Our waiter was very helpful and recommended some of his favorites. We went with the focaccia bread (it's a MUST), the olives, and one of the pizzas. It was all so delicious. My one gripe was that the table were pretty close together, so when you're having a conversation, you battle talking over the people around you. But the atmosphere was very welcoming. Very authentic. To start off, the interior and service here were both incredible. It's super cute inside and our waitress was so kind and attentive. Parking was not bad, lots of street parking on the street over. But to be honest, I was a little disappointed with the food. We got the focaccia and stracciatella to start which were both really good, and the citrus salad which was my favorite thing I had all night. We then got the chicken Milanese and the pepperoni and jalepeno pizza. The chicken portion was huge, but it just wasn't my favorite with the thick breading. The pizza was ok, but the crust was a bit soggy. We ended with the satsuma sorbet which was just so icy and with the texture of the meringue it was just not good. She wrote out a list of 8 other great dinning experiences in the hood that had strong food. Folk was on her MUST TRY LIST. What is better for a large night snack than pizza? The pepperoni pizza with jalapeno and hot honey was chosen. When I went inside the place, it was hopping with a cool vibe, hip and eclectic clientele. People were actually talking, laughing and smiling at each other. The bar, outdoor seating and inside was popping. It had a upscale vibe of a place you wanted to go for a date. The pizza was hot, flavorful and had a great chew. It was not over seasoned and all elements were tasty. I scanned the menu as I waited and noted several other dishes I would love to try. Folk is a HIGHLIGHT of the Nashville culinary scene! I came here on a double date while visiting this gorgeous city. Definitely make reservations. Street parking can be a bit of a challenge, so make sure to allot a little extra time. Our group was seated promptly by the friendly waitstaff. The whole way to the table, I was in awe of how cute and classy restaurant looked. We ordered a TON of food to share, and unsurprisingly, the highly-recommended Littleneck Clams Pizza was one of the best menu items. Our appetizers included Anchovies, Mussels, Bread, and Caesar Salad. Alongside the pizza, we got Eggplant Parmesan, Steak, and Trout. Not sure how often they rotate their menu, but everything was incredible. For dessert, we wrapped up with Tiramisu. Not to mention, every cocktail we tried was refreshing and flavorful. Can't remember exactly what I ordered. Overall this feels like such a typically 5-star American dining experience, but I'm so here for it and want to come back again. We went to folk the day after we went to Rolf and daughters, because we had such a wonderful time there. Our waitress Megan at Rolf and daughters was amazing, and the food was outstanding. When we were eating at folk they sent a few dishes to us on the house and when I asked our waiter Ben (another phenomenal waiter) why they sent the dishes he said the staff recognized us and knew we were at Rolf and Daughter's the night before. Honestly the extra food was nice but the fact that they were so aware and recognized us (our reservations were under completely different names) is amazing. This staff is top notch. The kitchens are both well oiled machines with well thought out and creative recipes in both restaurants. I was not surprised when I found out the chef at Rolf and daughters came from Pujol in CDMX as that is my favorite restaurant of all times. You will be happy having a meal at either place. Heads up to anyone ordering the focaccia: look at the menu before the server starts making suggestions. Folk lists actual focaccia pairings -- whipped ricotta (which comes with the bread for $7) and stracciatella ($10). We didn't get steered to either. We ordered the focaccia as an appetizer and it arrived completely plain. Other tables were dipping theirs in something whipped that looked great, so we asked. Our server offered oil and balsamic -- no mention of price, no mention of the actual menu items other tables were eating. A second server circled back to say the oil would be extra. Sure, fine. What showed up was a tiny dish, maybe two inches across with a quarter inch of oil in it. Six dollars. On top of the $4 for the plain focaccia. So we paid $10 for an off-menu workaround when the menu had two purpose-built options sitting right there, one of them cheaper than what we ended up with. Two servers had multiple chances to point at the menu and neither did. Food itself was good to very good -- Merlot beef, chicken parm sandwich, and the pork sausage pizza all delivered, and we'd come back. This little restaurant is located in East Nashville and boasts a romantic, casual vibe. There is no parking lot but plenty of street parking on Wilburn street. I made a reservation the night before. They do wait for the whole party to arrive before seating, but once everyone did, we were good to go! Our server was absolutely incredible and walked us through the menu. We asked him for his recommendations and ordered accordingly. Boy, did he do a good job! We LOVED every dish he recommended: Wild nettle, pickled ramp, mozzarella, sausage pizza 5/5: A pesto like pizza base, very light and thin crust, very unique and delicious. Littleneck clams, parsley, bonito, lemon pizza 10000/5: A fan favorite of the night!! This pizza was literally melting in my mouth, and I didn't know that was possible. Whatever you do, get this one! The chili oil was delicious and the focaccia was good. The whipped ricotta was very bland - needed more salt and flavor to add some depth. I got a focaccia bread app that was a 7/10, mostly just fluffy bread and the portion was nice but I asked for a small ramekin of olive oil to dip it in and was surprised to see I was charged $5 for it at the end. Dinner at Folk was amazing from start to finish. The cocktails were fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious and the perfect start to the evening. We tried both the mushroom and pepperoni pizzas, and they were easily some of the best I've ever had, flavorful, perfectly charred crust, and made with incredible ingredients. The kale salad was the perfect side dish. It is light, crisp, and balanced everything out beautifully.
