A New Neighborhood Favorite! We're exploring our new neighborhood and decided to give 5th & Taylor a try -- and we're so glad we did! From the moment we sat down, everything was fantastic. We started with cocktails, and both the margarita and Greyhound were perfect. Really well balanced, refreshing, and delicious. We shared a few starters, including the beets and the chopped salad. The chopped salad was such a unique presentation and was absolutely delicious. For our entrées, I had the duck, which was phenomenally cooked, while my partner had the braised short ribs -- quite possibly the best short ribs I've ever had! The service was excellent and very attentive without ever feeling overbearing, which made the entire evening feel relaxed and enjoyable. Such a great spot in the neighborhood. Oh, this place is soooo good and worth the price! I came here for a birthday dinner with a couple of friends and seriously you cannot go wrong with anything you order. We ordered some sausage cheddar biscuits, tomato pie, and bacon wrapped quail as appetizers and they were all delicious especially the tomato pie. Nobody had a bad word to say about entrees either! I ordered a seasonal sea bass dish and it was seriously one of the best things I have ever eaten. My husband got the short rib, and it was really tender and so yummy. What a find! After a year in Nashville, we finally made it here! Sad it took us so long because our experience was fantastic! The server was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was lively but not over-the-top. And the menu was full of delicious options. There was also a special menu for folks with various dietary restrictions, which came in handy for our gang. We started with shishito peppers, beef tartare and mellon balls with shaved ham. All were delicious! For the mains, we had beef cheek "pot roast", short rib and a NY strip, accompanied by creamy mashed potatoes. Elevated "comfortable food" that leaves one quite satisfied. The wine list was mainly US wines (I'm a fan of Italian reds), but they had one of our favorite Napa cabs at a reasonable price, so all good! The bar serves a range of interesting cocktails that we plan to try next time. I usually pass on desserts, but the fried peach pie and ice cream was too good to pass up. One of our go-to neighborhood gems. Chef Daniel Lindsey continues to update the menu often. The steak tartare appetizer is a must try, as is the Chopped Salad. Try the new Chocolate Crunch Cake! There is an open floor plan, with patio and party spaces, and a full bar, often full by 6:30 pm. The service was very good at the bar. I went for an early birthday dinner and can only describe the meal as something magical. We started off with the charred shishito peppers and okra with horseradish sauce. This was the most "okay" part of the meal as there's nothing much extra or special you can do to peppers and okra. They were good for what they are. Next was the dinner rolls. I would pay a ridiculous amount of money for the recipe to this bread. I want it everyday. It has a little sweetness to it like a Hawaiian roll does but not as sweet. They were fantastic. For entrees I got the mixed grille which had a tri tip steak I believe, lamb sausage, and pork tenderloin. Everything was absolutely amazing. The lamb sausage was incredible, but obviously if you don't like a little "gamey" taste not for you. The steak was great and seasoned/cooked perfectly. The pork tenderloin was juicy and well seasoned. The creamed corn and charred zucchini on the plate was also amazing. Every bit was incredible. The filet steak had a nice charred/wood fired taste to it, seasoned perfectly. The mushrooms were extremely savory and buttery. The Brussels were cooked to perfection and also had the wood fired taste. Mashed potatoes were extremely creamy and buttery. The entire meal was just delightful. They brought out some bourbon vanilla ice cream as a birthday treat and I want to know where they source it from. Server made some great recommendations for drinks and food alike. Very educated on the menu. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, it feels like an old church or dark lit castle or something. There are candles EVERYWHERE. It's really a cool environment. Wow! The space is stunning, for an upscale restaurant to be both cozy, beautiful and not intimidating is impressive. From the hosts the person clearing the table everyone was so kind, but our waiter was exceptional. He guided us in all of our food selections in a non-overwhelming way. We started with the bacon wrapped quail, beet salad and apple + cheddar biscuits, for mains we had the beef cheek pot roast and pork chop, then ended with the chocolate crunch cake. Again, wow! We felt everything was priced super well and portions were generous. I will be dreaming about the beef cheek and quail. Our only grievance (if you can call it that) was the pork chop was slightly overcooked. But in our book if you can overcook a pork chop and it's still 8/10 you're fabulous. My husband and I visited on a Sunday evening for my birthday dinner with our three kids (ages 4, 3, and 1). I've been here at least 10 times over the past eight years. Parking was easy, with plenty of street parking nearby. We had a 5 p.m. reservation and arrived around 4:52. The doors were locked, and although an employee was standing just inside, we were asked to wait outside until exactly 5. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal, but it was about 95 degrees, I'm eight months pregnant, and we had three young kids with us. That wasn't a great first impression, and I think if reservations begin at 5, guests should be able to come inside a few minutes early. Once the doors opened, we were seated promptly. They had a high chair ready for our youngest, and our server was excellent throughout the meal. The restaurant has a trendy, upscale atmosphere, and while our oldest did great, I think it's a better fit for adults than families with very young children. One thing I really appreciated was that when we realized they only had glass cups available, our server found paper coffee cups for the kids. It was a small gesture that made the meal much less stressful. The sausage biscuits are still outstanding and easily my favorite item on the menu. The steak was good, but I wasn't impressed with the Cobb salad. Our kids shared the fried chicken and mac and cheese, and my husband ordered the pot roast. Our bill came to about $190 before tip. Overall, the meal was good, but it didn't feel like the special dining experience I remembered from previous visits. Between the rough start, the prices, and food that was good but not particularly memorable, I don't see us returning anytime soon. There is a nice, long bar down the right side. They also apparently havea private room larger parties can book. I have not been in there. Service was impecable. Asked for suggestions of things I had not tried and she recommended the bacon wrapped quail and the beef tartare. Honestly one of the best tartares I have ever had and currently my favorite in Nashville. The quail was also esquisite. Kudos on both counts. We came here one evening for dinner during our trip through Nashville. We had a big surprise. Walking in from the plain exterior to the exuberant interior was a shock to the system. It's kind of industrial warehouse, it's kind of greenhouse, it's kind of British Museum, it's a lot of things all at once, but above all it was very chic and cozy. I felt relaxed and at home. The service was excellent, too. We had a server that was beyond friendly. A local musician, they all are in Nashville, she was kind, friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu, and made good recommendations for us. And the food all came out nice and timely. As for the food, it was the best part. We ordered way too much, because it all sounded so good. We started off with the sausage cheddar biscuits. Served with an apple jam, four sliders filled with sausage and sharp cheddar. It was pull-apart style, a lot of fun, and every component was packed with flavor. We then moved on to the dish of the night, the duck wings / spiced honey. Ummm, just look at those things. Tender, crispy duck wings, tasted so good, so unctuous. And they're also swimming in a spiced honey for dipping or drizzling. I was shocked. I could have just eaten a dozen of these and be happy. For my entree, I got the prime beef ny strip (served with grilled onion, herb butter, and family-style mashed potatoes). This thing was cooked to a perfect medium rare. A nice char on the outside, perfect seasoning, just an A+ dish. These people know how to do steak. I also got to try the short rib / delicata squash, baby turnip, date compote. Dude. Melt in your mouth, falling apart off the fork, very tender and delicious. Loved the unique accompaniments. The earthy sweetness from the compote went well with the short rib, and the squash was a unique squash, which made the plate very pleasing to the eye. We ended the meal with a bang, too, the fried apple pie / miso caramel, vanilla bourbon ice cream. This is a very good dessert! The hot dessert with the cold ice cream, the bubble caramel, the crispy pie dough, the ooey gooey apple pie filling, it was just luxury. The touch of bourbon adds another level, and the miso does, too. Don't fear the miso. You don't taste it. It just added a layer of umami. So good. Overall, this was wow, one of those restaurants that makes me rethink all other five star ratings I've ever given. I wanna give this place six stars. Went to 5th & Taylor to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was okay and definitely felt like a nice treat meal. Everything came out looking beautiful, it actually tasted good too. We had the qual as starters it was good flavorful nice sweet and salty balance. My gf and I ordered the roasted beet dish was also really good and had a nice mix of flavors and texture with the onions, pecans, and goat cheese. This is something we don't often see on a menu. For entrees, the meat dishes were the stars. The short rib was tender, rich, and super comforting.m. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and one of my favorite things on the table. The mashed potatoes were gooey almost like glue it went perfect with everything else. I'm not sure if I recommend it. This is the only item on the menu you can get unlimited. I do wish they allow you to select a different sides instead the whole table shared the mash potatoes. The whole place has an upscale feel without feeling too formal, so it still felt comfortable. The hostess were friendly and greats you as you walk in. Our server was just okay she didn't really check in on us much we had to get her attention multiple times to get drink refills. We came here for a family dinner for 6 on a Tuesday night. They have a small parking area but we found easy street parking (at least on a weekday). We had reservations at 6pm & were sat immediately. Staff was friendly & attentive the whole night. The quality of the food was good. Exactly what I'd expect for a more casual upscale restaurant. We ordered the bacon wrapped quail, tomato pie, shishito peppers, halibut, scallops, ny strip, grasshopper pie, brown butter chocolate torte, & ice cream. Entrees are served with a shareable side of mashed potatoes which were really good. One note is the food took quite a long time from the time of ordering to get it on the table. We waited 30-45 minutes. Even the desserts took 15-20 mins to come out.. Overall, it was a good experience. Recommend for a more upscale date night if you want a nicer ambience with a safe American-based menu. Just make sure you have the evening to wait. read more

You understand the hype the moment you walk in, before a single plate lands. 5th & Taylor lives inside a hundred-year-old Germantown warehouse, and the room is a stunner: timber beams soaring overhead like the ribs of an overturned ship, low candlelight, tall fiddle-leaf figs, and a long bar tucked beneath the original steel warehouse windows. An open kitchen with a wood-burning grill sends heat and aroma across the floor, so the whole space feels alive and warm at once. The staff matched the setting, gracious and sharp from hello to goodbye. The food kept pace. The sausage and cheddar biscuits earn every word of their reputation, we could have made a meal of them. We ate family style, which is the move here, passing everything so the whole table got a taste. Tara's halibut was the runaway favorite, our server called it his top pick on the menu and he nailed it. The mac and cheese and the brussels sprouts vanished fast, and the tri-tip with spaghetti squash and the delmonico rounded out a generous spread. My one small miss was the fried chicken, flavorful but a touch dry, the lone soft note of the night. The carrot cake ice cream cake split the table down the middle, though nobody walked away disappointed. Four stars, with only that dry chicken keeping it from a clean sweep. Great dinner here tonight with coworkers. We each started with a few cocktails and then decided to split some appetizers. While I skipped the tomato pie, my coworkers said it was delicious. I thought the zucchini fritters, sausage cheddar biscuits, and apple jam and cheddar biscuits were all amazing. Even though I was tempted by the halibut, I tried the mixed grill instead. While the pork tenderloin and lamb sausage were both delicious, the tri-tip was a little tough. One friend got the tri tip and loved it, while two others got the fried chicken, and both agreed it was wonderful. For dessert. I had the brown butter chocolate tort, which was amazing, while one other got the pear sorbet, and another tried the strawberry shortcake. All desserts were wonderful. The mushrooms and brussel sprouts were wonderful. My coworkers said the beets were delicious as well. Service by Eric was prompt, attentive, and friendly. We made a reservation for dinner here on a Saturday evening in January for 8:15pm through Resy. We were visiting from California and were worried it was going to be hard to find reservations. We were greeted by friendly staff and our table wasn't ready yet but it was bustling inside and at the bar, nice vibe and a pretty hip spot for American food. We got a bunch of different cocktails, I really liked the old fashioned and my friends got fruity and tequila cocktails. We started with the wedged salad that had a really nice presentation. The sausage and cheddar biscuits, raw hamachi that came with Plaintain chips, and duck legs. All a lot for a group of 4. For our main entrees we got the grilled Mahi mahi, short rib, wagyu/Delmonico steak. And we got some extra sides-- mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and creamed spinach. Service was great and we got the fried apple pie for dessert and had a surprise birthday which was ice cream! Such a nice vibe and great meal! Service was disappointing, it was drastically different compared to the couple sitting next to us. Didn't feel welcome. We did wait a long time for a weeknight before 7pm (from the moment we sat, tried to order and wrapping up) Considered leaving before ordering. We were not checked up on or talked to much. Majority of the time we had to flag her down quickly before she left the table next to us. Our waitress didn't seem attentive to us. Our service was more of a 2, our whole experience was maybe a 3. The service is great, the ambiance is elevated but casual enough to feel comfortable. Food is incredible. For an appetizer we enjoyed the tomato pie, fresh and light! Our entrees were the beer can chicken and short rib, both filling and flavorful and come with mashed potatoes. I don't know what they put in the mashed potatoes but I dream about having them again! For dessert we got the fried apple pie with vanilla ice cream and loved every bite! One of the best desserts I've ever had. I am sure I will be back soon. My colleagues and I were in Nashville for a conference, and for the majority of the nights we decided to explore Nashville food offerings outside of the hotel. After skimming some best-of lists and consulting Yelp, we thought 5th and Taylor looked good as a upscale-ish option (especially when compared to the barbecue and hot chicken spots we were checking out). That being said, we made our way over to Germantown our second night in Nashville for some dinner. 5th and Taylor has an unassuming exterior, but the inside tells a different story. The restaurant is gorgeous - it's large with super high ceilings and a very open floor plan. Lots of windows bring in a ton of natural light, and the greenery throughout the space really adds to the aesthetics. The menu is mostly New American and Southern, and the restaurant describes the food as being Sunday dinner. I can't comment on how true that is since the Southern experience isn't mine, but we *were* there on a Sunday so if anything it fit the bill. We started with drinks - I had the Nightmare on Gin Lane which was smooth and tasty. We decided to start with a couple of apps - namely the bacon-wrapped quail, chicken skin biscuits, and duck liver mousse. I enjoyed all of them, with my favorite surprisingly being the duck liver mousse. It was smooth, topped with raspberry jam, and paired with toasted brioche. I love raspberry, and while it seemed like an odd combo, it worked well. The chicken skin biscuits were also interesting - I wasn't sure what to expect (were the skins going to be baked into the dough?), and what was served was almost a sandwich with the skin in the middle. They were pretty good, but in my opinion sounded more interesting than they actually were. For my main I got the meatloaf sandwich - this was served on toasted brioche, paired with an aioli on the side, and accompanied by sweet potato fries. The sandwich was pretty good - the bread was super thick but it was light which made off for the perceived off ratio. The aioli was really tasty, and the sweet potato fries were thick which helped maintain their integrity (we all know sweet potato fries tend to get really mushy). The fries were a little too big and thick for me - I couldn't finish them but the meatloaf was good and I thought this was a solid dish overall. We also ordered sides of Brussels sprouts, beets, and mushrooms. I tried the first two which were both great. Finally, our meals came with family-style mashed potatoes which were excellent - super smooth and creamy; it was some of the best mash I've had in a long time. Service was good, everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at 5th and Taylor - the food was tasty and the atmosphere was on point. I think this a solid option for dinner in Nashville and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others. read more

Started with some appetizers including the tomato pie, hot chicken skin biscuits, and shishito peppers. All of them were so delicious! The tomato pie was kind of like a pizza in a deep pie crust - lots of tomato and cheesy goodness. The chicken skin biscuits were probably my favorite. Slightly spicy with a very crispy fried piece of skin and these amazing buttery biscuits, served with a slightly spicy sauce too! I ordered the mixed grill as my entree, which was lamb, pork, and beef tritip. The beef was probably my favorite in terms of flavor although it was a bit chewy/tough and probably somewhat overcooked. Quite confused as to why this has a 4.3 star here. We've been twice, getting different dishes each time, and everything we've tasted has been excellent. A lot of the appetizers and desserts are unique and they just nail the flavors. Service is always on point. Would highly recommend to anyone local and visiting. The first dinner we had when we arrived in Nashville. Food and drinks were excellent. Inside is a really cool vibe. I popped outside for a moment and that looked like a nice set up as well. What a great fancy restaurant to stumble upon! The vibe here is amazing, at night the lights are dim and almost feels quiet even with the place full. Food was outstanding. You MUST get the Brussel Sprouts and Mashed Potatoes for the table to share. Entrees were all excellent, but the Beef Cheek Pot Roast melted in your mouth. Putting the potatoes in the broth was a great combination. Will definitely be back! read more
