Awesome little Rib joint. The smells hits you before you open the front door. It's not traditional smoked BBQ but rather charcoal rotisserie and does it pack some backyard tasting goodness! The chicken and rib combo was more than enough for me. Both meats expertly seasoned and cooked. Collards and Meg's cornbread concoction were absolutely on the money. Unfortunately they were out of the banana pudding. Guess I'll have to go back again. Gary and Meg are the friendly, welcoming owners . Loved talking to them, you can tell that they're sincere about serving up heartfelt homemade food. This is a BYO and just a great place to hang for a few cold beers and a fantastic meal

By chance we met Gary out and about and in talking with this owner we got to hear his story and how this amazing place came to fruition. We had to go and try and it DID NOT DISAPPOINT! This is NOT your ordinary BBQ at all. No fancy sauces disguising or coating the meat. Instead you are getting charcoal slow cooked, amazing, tender, flavorful and delicious BBQ. The owner Meg was so kind to make us try her homemade BBQ and it was off the charts insane and that you wanted to drink it up. The wings were outrageous. The ribs tender to the bone and the brisket melted in your mouth. Now if you like corn bread this corn bread left you feeling cozy with homemade goodness. Definitely a must! Stop by and support an amazing family and small business where they put the heart and soul in every plate they serve. J&R

The food blog scene might be a bit quieter up around Wayne, as Gary & Meg's seems like the sort of place that should be famous. It's relatively new, and it's not like they're secretive - they're on the 'gram - but I'm curious to hear more about the origin story. Operating in the charcoal rotisserie subgenre of barbecue, they use an awesome smoke hit that you can smell from outside and a dry rub with no sauce in sight. I'd strongly recommend the chicken-and-rib combo but if I'm forced to state a meat preference I'd vote for the chicken. The short menu means you won't accidentally pick something non-core. No turkey burger here. I believe there are currently four sides available, and the corn concoction and mac and cheese seem more popular, but I skipped the latter in favor of collard greens to meet my vegetable quota, and it was delightfully tangy. There's also cole slaw. It's mostly takeout/delivery oriented, with excellent service from Gary and Meg themselves during my visit. Aqueduct Park is nearby with two picnic tables and rustic Pompton River views. I wish the NJ Transit schedule wasn't so abysmal, but I'll definitely be back.

This little BBQ joint in Mountain View has definitely been attracting attention over the past few months, and deservedly so. I've encountered positive buzz online and have driven past it a few times (usually coming back from grabbing Kenko Sushi). It seemed like the perfect spot for a to-go lunch on a cold, rainy Friday afternoon. I wasn't disappointed - and the issues I had were purely palate-based, not necessarily anything negative that the restaurant did or didn't do. I decided to order my lunch online via Gary & Meg's site. It was pretty easy to use; no issues in that regard. Constructive feedback-wise (and I didn't take points off for this at all), I'd recommend that they use consistent language across all social media/online platforms when it comes to the menu items. Several times I saw that the entrees came with two sides (indicating you could choose) and other times, including in the store, it said that the entrees automatically came with the corn concoction and the mac and cheese. It didn't end up being an issue for me since coincidentally those are exactly the sides I wanted, but I did write out my preferences in the special instructions, which apparently I didn't need to do. That seems like a pretty easy fix in terms of updating social media accounts, etc. Also, when I was selecting a pick-up time, the minimum "ASAP" option was for at least 35 minutes. Totally fine by me, but when I came in to pick up the order, they just prepped it for me right there. I'm assuming that the 35 minutes is more for the ribs and chicken than the pulled pork, but I'd tailor the wait times based on what the customer is ordering. Not a huge deal at all - it didn't take very long to have my order packed up and ready to go. As an aside, I hope they spend some time this summer concentrating on the interior presentation. Right now, I'm sure this is probably at least 95% a to-go business, but the storefront has potential as an in-house dining establishment. It looked like you could theoretically eat at the diner-esque front counter, but it's not too hospitable for that quite yet. Here's hoping. I liked the pulled pork - it's juicy, tender and flavorful - but for me it was too spicy. I can typically handle spice, but because it was so strong it actually overwhelmed the sides - I could barely taste the corn concoction and mac and cheese until I grabbed some water to clear my palate. From what I could tell, it looked like there were red pepper flakes in the pulled pork, which definitely provides a kick but in my opinion drowns out the supporting cast. The corn concoction was excellent. It tasted very similar to the cornbread pudding that House of Que in Hoboken has. I'd definitely get that again. The mac and cheese was also very good. I'm always a huge fan of breaded toppings, though it was a LITTLE too reminiscent of that Velveeta/milky taste. Again, I'm sure that's a huge selling point for a lot of other people, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Next time I'm bypassing the pulled pork in favor of the ribs, as that seems to be the big seller here. Even though this wasn't my favorite BBQ meal of all time, another customer easily could have had a perfect experience with the same food. Also, the customer service is top-notch. Meg was on the premises when I came to pick up my lunch and was very hospitable; can't undervalue the intangibles like that. There's definitely a lot to like here now and going forward.

Picked up lunch here today because my daughters school was having a fundraiser. We've gone in the past and have been pleased. Today was no exception. The pulled chicken sandwich and corn bread were amazing. The minus one star is for the coleslaw. It is inedible. I took one bite, spit it out and still have a burned, bitter, sour taste in my mouth minutes later. It's that bad. We will continue to order from here, but will go back to getting the mac and cheese as a side instead of the coleslaw.

Hung out at Gary & Meg's Chicken & Ribs tonight and it was GREAT. Food was DELISH. Service was ON POINT. Atmosphere was AWESOME. Had chicken, ribs, pulled pork...my fav was chicken & hubby's ribs but it was all good. Their Mac & Cheese is on my top-3-list and the cornbread is golden & savory...can you taste golden???!!! If you can't you need to learn...tastebuds have color, texture, temperature, fragrance, & flavor! Next time we visit we are going to have STONE AGE SHORT RIB, which sounds amazing, not forgetting a good Cab, oh yeah it's BYOB :) See you there!

Amazing fresh barbecue/rotisserie joint. The family running inside is amazing and the food is spectacular. It's not your average barbecue but more barbecue foods created/made rotisserie style. So expect something a little different but great. Mains Ribs - cooked perfectly, dry rubbed graciously. Tastes amazing, at first it seems like it's oily but it's all the juices. Honestly 5/5 Chicken - Super juicy and tender chicken. Also a dry rub on there and it tastes amazing 5/5 Sides Corn bread - very unique take on cornbread, it's more wet than dry but it's amazing. 5/5 Mac and cheese - traditional mac & cheese with a good crust 5/5 Collard greens - honestly amazing, definitely taste some type of meat in there but it definitely makes it taste better. 5/5 Honestly great food great prices super fresh!

We both added the carolina and memphis bbq sauce blend. Niether was spicy & the combination was sweet and tangy. The sides we tried included the potato salad and the corn bread. Both meat options were PHENOMENAL!!!!! The quality of meat was high. Each (brisket and pulled pork) was seasoned appropriately. The flavor was smokey, & the meat was cooked VERY well. You could tell that the brisket had been smoked for at least 8-12 hours. The meat separated beautifully using a plastic fork. There wasn't one tough piece of meat in the bunch. The fat cap (the fat on the edge of the meat) was not overwelming at all and melted like butter. (When the server cut the meat i could tell he was considerate and he included a fair portion of fat cap and meat. Not an just an overwhelming amount of fat or a dry portion without the cap.) The potato salad and corn bread were right down the middle, absolutely no complaints there. But the smoked meat options are definitely where they shine! They seem to be a small business go support them! The food was great. There seem to be some bad reviews but my experience was great. My advice - get the brisket or pulled pork. The service was good. The portions were great, large enough to fill us up AND have some left over. (I skipped lunch today so I was famished and I still didnt eat all of the food.) The staff was super helpful and kind. I will be going out of my way to find their food truck in the future, wherever they are. (I don't even typically write reviews so this is a lot for me.) To management: Thank you for coming out to feed us. I skipped lunch so this was amazing.

The ribs (Pen's House Ribs) were fall-off-the-bone tender with a flavor that hit all the sweet and savory notes.  The sauce is perfection, but they stand alone without it too!   The sides were just as impressive. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy with a panko crunch, the green beans were seasoned beautifully, and the rice and beans were full of flavor and cooked to perfection.  All of them complemented the chicken and ribs very nicely, and together with the BBQ it was the perfect amount of food for our family of 5 (though I could have eaten the chicken and ribs forever). And let's talk about the delivery, because that can make or break any meal, especially BBQ -- not only was it on time, but it was hand-delivered with care, arriving at the perfect temperature like it just came out of the kitchen.
