The cornbread was good but not hot at all. I honestly did not care about that! The sweet tea wasn't favorite but I didn't care about that either!! The portions here are HUGE! My daughter and I shared one meal and we were stuffed for the entire day! Did I mention that we ate the food in the car?? We opened the containers to take a peek as I was backing out, then I pulled right back into the parking spot and ate right there! Judge yourself, not me! For now the restaurant is take out only. They were smothered and gravy, so you can't see that they barely cooked the oxtails. I've done a review on this establishment before, but today's experience warrants an update. While I love the food at Amazing taste and have previously referenced it as my new go-to Soul Food Spot, that has changed, I am currently in need of a new Soul-food spot. While I don't proclaim to be the healthiest eater, I do love my food to be well seasoned, yet not over seasoned. Today I ordered a Fish Sandwich and Fried Shrimp. Although I felt that both were too salty, it literally felt as though I laid my head back and allowed someone to pour the Diamond Crystal Salt directly in my mouth; this was how it felt eating my shrimp. My love for shrimp is endless and I always devour any shrimp dish that is placed in front of me, however, today I just couldn't do it. There was literally so much salt that I had to toss the shrimp, in addition they were missing the crunch factor. Now you may be saying, Maybe they were just having a bad day, And I can understand if that was the case, but the last time I placed and ordered the fish, it was too salty as well. So in conclusion I have decided to find a new spot for take-out fried Shrimp & Fish or just stop being so lazy and cook it myself; after all, at the price of food nowadays I can't afford to be paying for something and then throwing it away because it's inedible, I would have gone back & complained but I didn't try it until I got to work. And all the Jamaican food places were closed. So I try this place. Well the jerk chicken didn't looked like jerk chicken. As you can see the picture. The mac & cheese had no flavor. Was in the area and found this place on yelp. I was craving soul food. Wanted fried chicken, which they didn't have but OK. I tried the honey barbecue wings with collard greens and potato salad. The wings had what looked like a bottle of bbq sauce...I couldn't even see or taste the wingettes. The collard greens would have been good if they had cut them, the flavor was good, but it was literally like eating large leaves. They weren't chopped at all. They knew my friend and her order even though she wasn't quite a regular at the restaurant. As for the entree I went with the jerk chicken and it came with 3 legs (small) and two slices of corn bread along with the two sides you chose. It's all very flavorful and tender. We finally made it to Amazing Taste! I definitely enjoyed our take-out meal. My husband and I shared both types of chicken (jerk and bbq), collard greens, green beans, jerk fries, oxtails with gravy and rice, mac and cheese, and of course the corn bread which comes with the meals. Sadly, they were all out of their infamous candied yams, probably because we ordered close to closing time. Lesson learned. We had leftovers for days. It's true that we ordered enough food for 5 people, but also, the portions are impressively huge. We were also very pleased with how inexpensive our large order was. I definitely appreciated all of the unique flavors and spices that went into everything. The bbq sauce on the chicken was tangy and sweet. The dry rub on the jerk chicken was authentically flavored. It's aromatic, fragrant and has some heat. Both chickens were a little dry. The oxtails with gravy and rice were the epitome of comfort food. They warmed my soul and tastebuds. The meat was tender and fell right off the bone. I felt that their sides fell a little short of expectations. The hot and fragrant seasoning on the jerk fries was good, but the fries were soggy. The collard greens were a little too coarse for my liking. And like the chicken, the mac and cheese was dry. I had high hopes of it being gooey and delicious. Perhaps these issues are due to the fact that we came late at night or maybe they were having an off day, but hey, that's what yelp updates are for. I called to place an order and a rude lady picked up the phone and had a complete nasty attitude with me when I inquired about how they prepare their collar greens (I don't eat meat). I proceeded to place my order and specifically asked for two pieces of their fried whiting. As I was preparing to eat my meal I noticed that they gave me one piece and a half, (even though I asked for and paid for two pieces). (*I went to the one in South Bound Brook*) I haven't had true "Soul Food" since I was a kid.  I grew up in a city-section of Long Island, and the only soul food I had was at my friends houses, made by their mom's.  Fast forward to today.  My boyfriend and I find another "hole-in-the-wall" near my home that specializes in Soul Food.  I'm *so* game.  We walk in, and it's super clean, with friendly employees and hella-good music rollin' in the background.  Yes, please! We have a sit-down and a lovely lady comes over to take our order; My man orders Oxtail on rice, with candied yams and collard greens.  I order Baked Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese and collard greens.  Fast turn-around, it comes out and looks amazing!  I had to snap photos.  The oxtails were like butter!  Chicken was as fall-apart-ee as *I* make them at home (so yeah... they were THAT good!!!) Collard greens were insane!  Not one ounce of bitterness left in them.  Candied yams were so delicious... wow.  And the Mac and Cheese was just as yummy.  I didn't get a chance to try the corn bread because I was focusing on my food.  We brought two desserts home with us, and including the desserts, everything was $40.  Sooo affordable.  Needless to say, we will be back to this amazing restaurant NUMEROUS times in the future... read more

So damn good! My dad discovered this place while he was driving down Rt 22. I don't eat soul food often either, but the food here is amazing. We went the day before Thanksgiving. The restaurant itself didn't seem too busy when we came, but they had non-stop catering orders coming in and many people coming in for takeout. All the entrees come with two sides, with the exception of the Oxtail which comes with one since the rice is already included. Entrees: Oxtail with rice - For $13.50, I feel like this is actually pretty cheap for the amount of rice and oxtail they give plus a side. That oxtail was one of the best oxtails I've had. It was so incredibly tender and fell apart in your mouth. It had delicious pieces of chewy fatty parts. The sauce on the rice was addicting. I shared all the entrees with my dad and brother, but next time I want a plate to myself. Jerk Chicken - The chicken is dark meat with lots of spices. It's not spicy, but has a tiny bit of heat to it. I'm glad the use dark meat since it's a lot juicier. My favorite was the oxtail, but this was also great to order. Fried Whiting - I liked the cornmeal breading. The pieces are somewhat small, so only two pieces might not be filling enough. We got three since we were sharing. Sides: Mac and cheese - This was very cheesy. I'm not sure how many cheeses they used, but I saw a few different colors of cheese. For some reason, the mac and cheese had a slight mustard taste to it. I hate mustard, so I would prefer my mac and cheese without it, but if you like mustard this would be a good cheesy mac and cheese for you. Collard greens and green beans - We got these just to have vegetables with our meal. I liked the collard greens. The green beans are of the canned variety. Jerk Fries - I think they put the same jerk sauce they use for the chicken on the fries. It makes the fries soggy, but for some reason it really works. Candied Yams - These turned out to be yams with cinnamon and sugar. It tastes like you are eating the filling of a pie. Thank god no marshmallows, since I dislike them. Everything comes with cornbread. This was my brother's favorite. It wasn't the most moist cornbread I've had, but it wasn't dry either. It had the perfect amount of sweetness. I was so full I could only eat half of it, but we had a second lunch with the leftovers. We also tried their banana pudding. I wanted to try this because I had amazing banana pudding for the first time in North Carolina. I have not had banana pudding that good since my first time trying it, but the one here was pretty decent. It's a little bit different since this one seems like it's just chilled instead of baked. This is the best meal that I have had in a while. We got jerk chicken with cajun fries and candies yams as one entree and ox tail with mac and cheese as our second entree. Every entree comes with 1-2 sides and cornbread. Every single thing I ate from here was soooo delicious and flavorful. Everything was the right amount of sweet and savory, hints of spicy. My least favorite location. I've been to all three. Can be inconsistent and really salty at times but when it's good it's good. Service can use some work. I would recommend the collards green they make that really good. I actually love their jerk chicken empanadas and I would recommend it to anyone but not so much the bbq one. read more
