Amazing Taste is genuinely good food. Takeout is the main way I enjoy it, and it's always fresh with a wide variety of treats and entrees. Anything fried is amazing, and the veggies are well maintained and taste great. The establishment always hooks me up with utensils and has everything ready to go. It's a staple in the central Jersey area, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants soul food. It's Black-owned and delivers great comfort food, service is good, and it seems to keep growing. read more

Ok, so I've been driving past this place for a while. Finally made it in. I always support my local spots. Especially soul food places. I don't like giving bad reviews, but I have to speak on this in hopes the owner will read this and do better. Small clean spot. Very clean and organized place. Very nice order taker. Open kitchen. Few tables to eat at if you want or take out which is what I did. Ordered the spicy wings, fried catfish, fried shrimp, greens, Mac and cheese and candied yams Wings...small and yes a little spicy, but OMG soooo small. Catfish...Only ONE small catfish piece that tasted good and was seasoned well. Greens, and Mac and cheese weren't too bad. Candied yams were very tasty. I've been to a lot of soul food spots and have never been given only one piece of fish. It's unheard of unless the piece is super big, which this wasn't. Shrimp...again small and over seasoned on the salty side. Overall, the food wasn't great and the portions were beyond small for the price. Oh yea...no prices are listed on the board. Very bad in transparency!! The price for portion size was ridiculous, and quality... I will not return. Very much let down by this place that looked like a gem. read more

this place was disgusting. we walked in chill small place menu on on the board, but no prices are shown they're written in black marker which you have to get very close to the board to see it. I got catfish that was supposed to come with two pieces. on the way home, the bag began to leak oil from the catfish when we open the bag. I have one whole piece and 1/2 of a half for my second piece of fish. The mac & cheese is noodle and cheese no flavor. The candy yams are burnt. They taste like they were just poured out of a can. i haven't even ate my food completely and im already having stomach pain otw to the toilet . i had to put a put a paper towel under my fish to catch the oil in the fish ended up falling apart because it was so soft and mushy. do not eat this place read more

4.5 stars Ordered the fried whiting, jerk chicken, Mac and cheese, collard greens, rice, candied yams and fried wingettes. Really wanted the oxtails but they were sold out. We were pleasantly surprised at how delicious everything was. The -0.5 star was for the Mac and cheese which was too salty and too mushy. The fish was fantastic as well as the collard greens. I could not believe how much I loved the candied yams. Sweets are normally not my thing but the yams were cinnamony and so good. Great portions too! We will definitely be back. read more

Nice people and extraordinary food. Hands down the ox tail and I will keep coming back.

The staff was nice, highly attentive and polite. I ordered the BBQ chicken platter with candied yams. The yams were pretty good, the chicken was just baked chicken with warmed up bbq sauce spread over it. The potato salad was among the worst I've ever had, something I couldn't even finish. Happy to support a local family owned business. But I didn't love this meal. read more

Food is always top notch. Everyone behind the counter are helpful and get things done as quickly as possible. Clean too. Love this place.

Been to the Bound Brook one several times but decided to hit up this one because it was on my way. The place is nothing fancy but could use a little TLC. The dining area was neat and clean but from there to my journey to the bathroom was a off-putting. I almost had to question everything. BUT the food is ALWAYS delicious and seasoned to perfection so I stuck with it. The staff was at the ready and pleasant. I was going to comment on how efficient they were until I got home and realized there was a mistake on my order. I wanted a 3 pc Whiting with Yams & Collard Greens. I must have repeated the order 3 times from beginning to end to two of the different workers and STILL they got it wrong. I even commented how heavy the bag was after he packed up my order. No wonder. That Mac & Cheese weighed a ton. I really wanted the greens. read more

Absolutely the best soul food/carribean food in New Jersey. This place is a hidden gem. The sign is small so you might miss it. Jerk empananda is extremely tasty, a must try. I was so looking forward to this meal. I was hoping for southern fried chicken, they only make baked chicken. I was very disappointed. Chicken was dry and no breast. Candied yams and cornbread were great. Green beans were very overcooked, not the way I like them. I want this place to succeed, so I will return to sample another meal. Adding fried chicken would be a plus. read more

My 5 star rating is for the food and customer service ONLY! The location and condition of the restaurant is not the greatest but the food totally makes up for it! Ok so let me testify real quick... THE FOOD HERE IS BLESSED! I was born and raised on southern cooking so trust me on this one ok??! You will not find any soul food better than this! I'm a huge critic when it comes to southern cooking because I naturally compare it to what I was raised on. I've been struggling to find a soul food place that I love but my search is officially over. I stumbled across Amazing Taste while out shopping for furniture and I am so happy I did. I was a little hesitant to go inside because the outside was not appealing to me. But as soon as I walked in, I knew I was at the right place. 1. The girl at the desk was warm and inviting and made me feel like I was at home! 2. I saw the pots that they were cooking in and my heart skipped a beat! If you know, YOU KNOW.... I decided on the catfish, string beans, Mac and cheese and yams! Everything was absolutely delicious! The crispy fried catfish and string beans were seasoned well, the baked macaroni and cheese was cooked perfectly and full of cheese, the candied yams?? DELECTABLE!! The cornbread was good but not hot at all. I honestly did not care about that! The sweet tea wasn't favorite but I didn't care about that either!! The portions here are HUGE! My daughter and I shared one meal and we were stuffed for the entire day! Did I mention that we ate the food in the car?? We opened the containers to take a peek as I was backing out, then I pulled right back into the parking spot and ate right there! Judge yourself, not me! For now the restaurant is take out only. It's somewhat of a greasy spoon so I don't think I would eat inside anyway. They offer catering which is definitely a good thing because the food is out of this world good! Amazing Taste is a little on the pricey side but it's worth every single penny that they ask for! This is a perfect example of not judging a book by its cover! EAT HERE... I've done a review on this establishment before, but today's experience warrants an update. While I love the food at Amazing taste and have previously referenced it as my new go-to Soul Food Spot, that has changed, I am currently in need of a new Soul-food spot. While I don't proclaim to be the healthiest eater, I do love my food to be well seasoned, yet not over seasoned. Today I ordered a Fish Sandwich and Fried Shrimp. Although I felt that both were too salty, it literally felt as though I laid my head back and allowed someone to pour the Diamond Crystal Salt directly in my mouth; this was how it felt eating my shrimp. My love for shrimp is endless and I always devour any shrimp dish that is placed in front of me, however, today I just couldn't do it. There was literally so much salt that I had to toss the shrimp, in addition they were missing the crunch factor. Now you may be saying, Maybe they were just having a bad day, And I can understand if that was the case, but the last time I placed and ordered the fish, it was too salty as well. So in conclusion I have decided to find a new spot for take-out fried Shrimp & Fish or just stop being so lazy and cook it myself; after all, at the price of food nowadays I can't afford to be paying for something and then throwing it away because it's inedible, I would have gone back & complained but I didn't try it until I got to work. Such a disappointment! Addendum: I felt bad for a minute after reading the owners reply, but then thought to myself, "Is it really bad to give an unfavorable review?" & Should I as an Elite Yelper, should have reach out to the establishment? Then I began reading the reviews of others and the owners comments as well, that's when I concluded, I don't work for the establishment, my reviews are honest and this wasn't my first experience with the food being too salty as I stated earlier in my review. The purpose of reviews is to give feedback when things are good as well as bad. This allows business to get a pulse of what the customers are saying and how they can better improve their businesses. I've read other reviews where there were complaints of the food being too salty. So with that, I stand by my review and wish Amazing Taste nothing but growth & success. While I continuously strive to support Black Businesses, I will be nothing but honest when I review them, good, bad or indifferent. read more

Wow. Amazing Taste. What can I say about this place. I like to try new things. New places to support businesses in my area. Well I don't know if I can support this one. There are a lot of things I wish could change about this place. 1. Most important- The Food. I order the Jerk Chicken because I was carving Jamaican food. And all the Jamaican food places were closed. So I try this place. Well the jerk chicken didn't looked like jerk chicken. As you can see the picture. The mac & cheese had no flavor. It was just greasy. It taste like it was in the fridge for some time and they just reheated it and sold it. Smh. The yams were decent and the cornbread was ok. Nothing to run home about. 2. Their containers are HORRIBLE! All the juice from the food spilled out in the bag. So now the utensils are sticky and the container is sticky. As you can see in the picture. So over all I didn't have a good experience. So I personally would not recommend this place. read more

We dined in but there were a lot of to go orders. The phone was ringing non stop, and to me that's a pretty good indicator that the food here is good. staff was friendly as well. They knew my friend and her order even though she wasn't quite a regular at the restaurant. Additionally, the guy up front was also nice and made small talk.. very good quality to have for customer service! If you had to choose one side, Mac and cheese is the way to go. As for the entree I went with the jerk chicken and it came with 3 legs (small) and two slices of corn bread along with the two sides you chose. It's all very flavorful and tender. Had a nice kick to it but it wasn't the hot kind of spicy. Wrapped it up with banana pudding for dessert. Yum! There were also mirror decorations on the walls. Okay so the Mac and cheese and collard greens was my favorite part but they score would be a 5/10 . The fish taste like it was still underneath the sea . It was like 19.19 for the meal and it was not worth the price ! Really worth $12. Mac and cheese taste like all they put in it was salt and pepper . Maybe the collard greens was my favorite but it was not tasting how I thought. And all you people that's giving this place 5 stars should be ashamed, I tried to read the comments before I came but majority said it was good ! We finally made it to Amazing Taste! I definitely enjoyed our take-out meal. My husband and I shared both types of chicken (jerk and bbq), collard greens, green beans, jerk fries, oxtails with gravy and rice, mac and cheese, and of course the corn bread which comes with the meals. Sadly, they were all out of their infamous candied yams, probably because we ordered close to closing time. Lesson learned. We had leftovers for days. It's true that we ordered enough food for 5 people, but also, the portions are impressively huge. We were also very pleased with how inexpensive our large order was. I definitely appreciated all of the unique flavors and spices that went into everything. The bbq sauce on the chicken was tangy and sweet. The dry rub on the jerk chicken was authentically flavored. It's aromatic, fragrant and has some heat. Both chickens were a little dry. The oxtails with gravy and rice were the epitome of comfort food. They warmed my soul and tastebuds. The meat was tender and fell right off the bone. I felt that their sides fell a little short of expectations. The hot and fragrant seasoning on the jerk fries was good, but the fries were soggy. The collard greens were a little too coarse for my liking. And like the chicken, the mac and cheese was dry. I had high hopes of it being gooey and delicious. Perhaps these issues are due to the fact that we came late at night or maybe they were having an off day, but hey, that's what yelp updates are for. I'll just have to come back, reassess, and hopefully be able to order the candied yams! read more

If I could give no stars I honestly would. I called to place an order and a rude lady picked up the phone and had a complete nasty attitude with me when I inquired about how they prepare their collar greens (I don't eat meat). I proceeded to place my order and specifically asked for two pieces of their fried whiting. As I was preparing to eat my meal I noticed that they gave me one piece and a half, (even though I asked for and paid for two pieces). My friend left a Google review and the owner of the establishment commented stating "go to hell" because of our constructive criticism. Please read his comment below, it speaks for itself! Never again will I support this business, and I will continue to encourage others to do the same. read more

Amazing Taste - Response from owner. - Soul Food Near Me - North Plainfield, New Jersey

(*I went to the one in South Bound Brook*) I haven't had true "Soul Food" since I was a kid.  I grew up in a city-section of Long Island, and the only soul food I had was at my friends houses, made by their mom's.  Fast forward to today.  My boyfriend and I find another "hole-in-the-wall" near my home that specializes in Soul Food.  I'm *so* game.  We walk in, and it's super clean, with friendly employees and hella-good music rollin' in the background.  Yes, please! We have a sit-down and a lovely lady comes over to take our order; My man orders Oxtail on rice, with candied yams and collard greens.  I order Baked Chicken with Macaroni and Cheese and collard greens.  Fast turn-around, it comes out and looks amazing!  I had to snap photos.  The oxtails were like butter!  Chicken was as fall-apart-ee as *I* make them at home (so yeah... they were THAT good!!!) Collard greens were insane!  Not one ounce of bitterness left in them.  Candied yams were so delicious... wow.  And the Mac and Cheese was just as yummy.  I didn't get a chance to try the corn bread because I was focusing on my food.  We brought two desserts home with us, and including the desserts, everything was $40.  Sooo affordable.  Needless to say, we will be back to this amazing restaurant NUMEROUS times in the future... read more

Was in the area and found this place on yelp. I was craving soul food. Wanted fried chicken, which they didn't have but OK. I tried the honey barbecue wings with collard greens and potato salad. The wings had what looked like a bottle of bbq sauce...I couldn't even see or taste the wingettes. The collard greens would have been good if they had cut them, the flavor was good, but it was literally like eating large leaves. They weren't chopped at all. The potato salad tasted like a jar of pickle juice was poured into it. Even the drink... The uptown was way too strong with the instant tea mix... I had to dilute it with water. My husband got the whiting... Which he liked and mac & cheese and greens. The mac & cheese was almost all cheese with a little bit of noodles. We got oxtails to go, which were not bad. I hate to bash this place because the lady was very nice, we just did not like most of the food at all. read more

I would order it again and again and again, but next time I would prefer to try other menu items. read more

The name speaks for itself!! After a short hike in the area, my friends and I decided to try Amazing Taste. Probably not the best option for post-workout food, but sometimes it's good to treat yourself. I ordered the BBQ Chicken, Mac and cheese, and jerk fries. The sauce on the chicken was bomb!! The Mac and cheese was seasoned a little as well. But the spicy jerk fries!! They were one of the most delicious fries I've ever had. They weren't really spicy, but the meat and sauce on top was so good- I could have ordered a whole plate full. My friends also raved about their food, and we all took home leftovers. The guy at the register - who I learned is the son of the owner - was also super nice and welcoming. It made our experience even better, and I can't wait for my next visit! read more

I came here and ordered takeout for my family, and man, this place is insane. The quality of food is great, and the overall serving size is unbelievable. I've enjoyed their meatloaf, which is so comforting, warm, , tender and super delicious. Their mac and cheese, is a must order. I really haven't had mac and cheese this good, and it honestly looked a bit mushy, but man, the depth of flavor and the amazing balance of flavor is a must try. Ox tail portions were so generous, and it's definitely a must order. It looked so tender and melt in your mouth delicious. The whiting also looked very generous in portion size, and frankly all of these dishes could be shared between two petite eaters, or with a group of hungry family members! It's good, and prices are fairly reasonable. Note that this isn't the best soul food, but it is pretty good. Got the ox tail on rice. Ox tail meat was fairly juicy and the sauce that they added tasted good. Also the portion size was quite generous. It came with a side of mac & cheese. I actually really liked this... I'm not sure if it was the cheese or the flavoring that they added, but it was much better than at other places I've been. Came here before. And wanted to give this another chance. The fish is consistently small for the price. For a two piece they need to give 3 pieces and for a 3 piece they need to give 4 to make up for size. The yams are consistently good. The string beans was better today. The potatoe salad has been consistent with flavor. No complimentary bread with platters. That would be good with the fish platters. I would come back. But far in between visits read more

So damn good! My dad discovered this place while he was driving down Rt 22. I don't eat soul food often either, but the food here is amazing. We went the day before Thanksgiving. The restaurant itself didn't seem too busy when we came, but they had non-stop catering orders coming in and many people coming in for takeout. All the entrees come with two sides, with the exception of the Oxtail which comes with one since the rice is already included. Entrees: Oxtail with rice - For $13.50, I feel like this is actually pretty cheap for the amount of rice and oxtail they give plus a side. That oxtail was one of the best oxtails I've had. It was so incredibly tender and fell apart in your mouth. It had delicious pieces of chewy fatty parts. The sauce on the rice was addicting. I shared all the entrees with my dad and brother, but next time I want a plate to myself. Jerk Chicken - The chicken is dark meat with lots of spices. It's not spicy, but has a tiny bit of heat to it. I'm glad the use dark meat since it's a lot juicier. My favorite was the oxtail, but this was also great to order. Fried Whiting - I liked the cornmeal breading. The pieces are somewhat small, so only two pieces might not be filling enough. We got three since we were sharing. Sides: Mac and cheese - This was very cheesy. I'm not sure how many cheeses they used, but I saw a few different colors of cheese. For some reason, the mac and cheese had a slight mustard taste to it. I hate mustard, so I would prefer my mac and cheese without it, but if you like mustard this would be a good cheesy mac and cheese for you. Collard greens and green beans - We got these just to have vegetables with our meal. I liked the collard greens. The green beans are of the canned variety. Jerk Fries - I think they put the same jerk sauce they use for the chicken on the fries. It makes the fries soggy, but for some reason it really works. Candied Yams - These turned out to be yams with cinnamon and sugar. It tastes like you are eating the filling of a pie. Thank god no marshmallows, since I dislike them. Everything comes with cornbread. This was my brother's favorite. It wasn't the most moist cornbread I've had, but it wasn't dry either. It had the perfect amount of sweetness. I was so full I could only eat half of it, but we had a second lunch with the leftovers. We also tried their banana pudding. I wanted to try this because I had amazing banana pudding for the first time in North Carolina. I have not had banana pudding that good since my first time trying it, but the one here was pretty decent. It's a little bit different since this one seems like it's just chilled instead of baked. Make sure you dig deep as the bananas are at the bottom. They take cash and credit. I think the owner's son was running the place at the time we went. I was really impressed at how he was able to keep up with all the orders for catering coming in by phone and also handle the people coming in to order food, while still being so friendly. He made it look so easy. I will definitely be back for some more amazing food. read more

They do food so well, it's not even funny. I've probably ran though their menu a few times and I can not stop eating here. When I say they're doing everything right I mean they're doing EVRRYTHING right in terms of the food. You can't go wrong but I'll give you my go to order; jerk chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams. Jerk chicken is absolutely fire. The meat falls right off the bone, your taste buds will thank you every bite you take, you will want to go back for this over and over again. Collard greens, are on a different level. I'm telling you idk if they cook them in the jerk chicken broth but I wouldn't be surprised. They're so well season they have that jerk kick in them, those collard greens are top 5 (don't tell my family). Mac and cheese is amazing, I get them almost every time. They're just very well done nothing fancy about it, just made perfectly. Candied yams will mess up your whole life. One bite you're hooked, guaranteed.
