    Steak Sandwich and Picanha special

My husband and I have ordered from Portugalo for delivery but this is our first time eating there. It was so good! It was fresh and delicious. The portions were large. The people who worked there were really nice and even made a sauce for us to go. We will definitely be back.

Great food! Really good portions. We really enjoyed the shrimp and chicken. Veggies were delicious. The steak sandwich wasn't bad but we much prefer the chicken and meats.

Excellent portions, Beautiful Color and Great Taste!!! Wish there were more sides and a bigger portion of beans, but a very delicious meal. The food had a light and clean feel and taste. I would definitely recommend it to others. Loved the variety of empanadas too, but they too could've been a little less expensive. Great job!!!

This is a small place with tons of charm. They have a few tables inside to eat as well as some outside. The food is season well. You can actually taste the firewood they use. My favorite by far was the season paella. They have a good variety of empanadas. I had beef and Buffalo chicken. They both were good with enough meat inside. You get a good amount of food. The staff is so friendly. I can wait to come back and try other dishes.

One of the best dishes I've ever had.

Amazing food. Great people working there. Definitely going back. My food was fresh and so delicious. Can't wait to go back.

I read such wonderful things about this place, so I was eager to get in there and try it out! Well, unfortunately my experience was not a good one and it totally left a bad taste in my mouth! Here's why... I went in on a Saturday night a little after 6:30pm and had planned to eat inside. Soon as I walked in, I noticed that the three tables were already occupied, so I placed my order to-go. My order was rather simple- 1/2 chicken, 1/2 ribs with rice (already done), black beans (already done), custard cups (already done), soup (already done) and 2 empanadas! The guy at the counter was very nice but never told me that I would be waiting a very long time for my food. The first thing that annoyed me was the young boy who was well under 18 years old, placed my change down on the table and didn't put it in my hand- HUGE PET PEEEVE of mine! Why was he even handling money anyway? They offered everyone there a small cup of soup and bread which was a nice gesture but I just wanted my food! After waiting well over an hour, I kindly asked for a refund because I couldn't wait any longer. Instead of the lady being apologetic- she scolded me saying I was told I had to wait! I was blown away and very disappointed by her attitude. Her vibe was she didn't care about my business and made no attempt to retain it. It was almost as if she was happy I was leaving! Here's another thing I noticed: I didn't see any hand washing during my visit. The young boy went from preparing soup, to handling money, to picking up bread without washing his hands or putting on gloves. I also watched him prepare someone's soup to-go, and scrapped the greens from the soup into the container with his finger! I probably should've walked out then.... So, the food might be good here, but unfortunately I didn't get to try it. The wait time is forgivable but her attitude towards me is not.

So im Portuguese myself. Of course I can't compare to newark or other well known Portuguese foodie places. But here its a nice place. You walk in its warming and welcoming. It's unfortunate that there is not great seating. Would be nice to actually have a portuguese person working here. Food was ok nothing to call home about or have the memories of homeland feeling. But its good. Filling. I had picadinho. Sauce was very bland. Chicken it it was good and shrimp as well but the pork was not done right at all. But tastea good just not the type of pork that should be used in this dish. In terms if ambiance its nice. Could use some new paint and fix the ceiling stains. All in all great. Just lacks "Portugal" qualities ambiance and feeling. Portugalo Picadinho

We arrived about 8 pm and were greeted quickly and asked if we had a reservation. Place was maybe at 40% capacity so we got a table right away. They have a big menu with lots of interesting choices. For an appetizer we had grilled octopus. The dish lacked flavor and looked like it was just thrown together. Definitely not worth the $18.95. For dinner Sandra had filet wrapped in bacon. It was cooked exactly as she ordered but was definitely a bit chewy and it also lacked flavor. I had a 16oz ribeye. I'm very picky with my steak as I like it black and blue and lots of places can't get it right. This place actually got it right and it was cooked perfectly. The flavor was also good as it was cooked in a garlic butter sauce and it had a bit of bark on outside. Only problem is the steak was chewy. Both pieces of meat were subpar when it comes to quality. The vegetables that came with our meal were steamed and had zero flavor. Where is the traditional garlicky lemony flavor? Definitely not here that's for sure. Overall experience was average but in my opinion food is below average both in quality and flavor. Prices for what you receive are where they should be for most items. If the quality of meat was better the prices would be higher as they are in some of our other go to Portuguese restaurants. The old saying stands- you get what you pay for. Service was good as our server was prompt and answered all of our questions. Ambiance is very nice. It's warm and inviting. Will we go back probably to try something different on the menu and hopefully it has more flavor. Enjoy.

Where to start?!…read more Parking is a nightmare. There's only a small parking lot behind the restaurant. Half the spaces are for the liquor store next door with 15 minute limit and tow warnings. Parking on the street is not permitted. Had to make 5 laps around the block and wait for a space to open. I called Nero's while making laps to see if they could take us. I was one more lap away from going home. So frustrating! There's supposed to be a parking lot attendant, but he was no where to be found. Parking lot smells like weed. Probably the attendant. Hostess is a bit of a curmudgeon. I booked the reservation and specifically asked for a square 4 top. She tried to seat us at a rectangular table for 4, insisting it was a square. Basic geometry. Dining room is depressing, dull, crowded, and noisy. Too many tables jammed in there. And a lot of them are 2 tops. Just an aggravating vibe. The people here on Yelp who think the vibe is inviting need to get out more. They sat us next to kitchen door, which opens every 10 seconds. Annoying. Fried calamari and octopus salad were both tough and chewy. Likely frozen. Cesar salad was decent, but that's hard to mess up. Rib eye was way too fatty and chewy. Marbling is one thing but this was more like a prime rib. Other entrees were non-descript. Meh. Waiter was nice but too busy. Not enough attention paid to us. Overall this place tries hard but finds subject difficult. The parking lot attendant has the right idea. We won't be back.

I love how you could order online, that's a plus. The lady that called me to verify sounded really nice. The food is so good. Very flavorful. The garlic shrimp is actual sauce not just a bunch of shrimp swimming around in oil and minced garlic. Its a buttery sauce. I recommend buying a loaf a bread for dipping. The serving size is enough for a family of 3 and left overs for the next day for sure. Definitely adding to my list of local dinner eats. Thank you for your hospitality.

When I ordered, it said 45-60 minutes for the food to be prepared (as a standard message), and then told me delivery would take 45-60 minutes. Does that mean I'm waiting 90+ minutes for food? Nope, it came to the door in 40 minutes tops. Great job. As for the food: We've got the meats! I can say that most of the meat was a bit overdone, but it was made fresh and then delivered, so that will keep the meat cooking and I fully acknowledge that. The sausage was excellent. The wings were skimpy and not really worth it. The chicken and steak were both flat and thus both faster to cook. Meat overall was a bit chewy and tough, but again, that's upon delivery. I really liked the flavor, and they did include a nice spicy hot sauce at my request. Verdict: Will need to go back in person to try this out!

I have to say that the best thing about this place is the service: everyone was very friendly, and quick to attend us. Food was great, except maybe the flake fish (first course). Seemed more Spanish to me than Portuguese though. Portions were huge... actually had leftovers from a dish, which is the first for me from a tasting menu. The prices were reasonable In terms of why I'm giving this 4 star instead of 5: -we were seated at the "Chefs counter", but did not really have a view of the prep, which was really far away. Basically could just see the fireplace. The sister restaurant Heirloom is a much better chef's counter setup where you are seeing everything -Dishes seemed to be regular menu type dishes (just smaller portions), as opposed to super interesting types that you would expect from a tasting menu -Beverage pairing was okay... didn't really love the wines For these reasons, I'd likely return, but just stick to the regular menu/ experience.
