Salesperson Ricky offered suggestions but one by one I shot them down: Too preppy, don't like the pockets, no button downs, no pastel rugby shirt. Then Ricky showed me this table of cool sweatpants, hoodies and t-shirts, a limited time collab with the logo of The Brooklyn Circus and the Black Panthers, coo-ol! The cotton is so thick and soft, quality stuff. I didn't know I wanted something for myself but I bought beautiful cotton pajamas in an awning stripe of pink, blue, yellow and white, buy one piece get the second 50% off. Because I'm a bad shopper, I have to have the picture painted for me. Ricky did an excellent job asking enough questions to get me from "I don't know what I want" to "that's perfect!" I wandered into Baby Gap today, searching for a birthday gift for a one year old. I usually have no problem being ignored while shopping but being clueless when it comes to baby clothing, it would have been nice to have a bit of help. The two employees camped out behind the counter seemed less than enthusiastic to be there (and that's putting it mildly) We all have our bad days but if you're in the customer service industry (and hello, retail sales is customer service!) at least fake a smile. I live 5 minutes from a Gap in the city yet always come to the chestnut location to shop. I love their gap fit line and they always have my size. Not only are they well stocked but the customer service exceeded and still exceeds my expectations!! On one occasion while purchasing a sweater, Ree, at the register realized I was getting a diff size than i usual do, she acknowledged it and I told her I couldn't find my size so I was settling. She refused to let this happen and went to look for my size herself. There was a line and felt a little bad but she assured me there were other registers and I should be happy with my purchases. She even searched the back for me! Sure enough she returned with it and I love how it fits! Im glad she did because I probably would've worn the larger size just a couple times! While the clothes and styles remain the same, and I actually kind of like Gap's everyman/woman look, I recently found out that we got hoodwinked at this location. The story so far: About a year ago and a half ago, we went in and purchased a bunch of gift cards to use (some to give away and some to use for ourselves!). Just last month, I tried using one of the Gap cards and found out that it was issued with a $0 balance on it. I talked to the salesperson about this, and then called some Customer Service line -- both agreed that is was odd that I would keep a card with no money it, or not be asked to see if wanted to repleNish it. I was hoping that since each card has a unique serial code on it, they could track it down. I actually did this once at J. Crew, and they had no problem doing it. Admittedly, we should have kept better receipts ourselves, and are now trying to track down the credit card statement to prove our case. It was only for $300 or so (as I had mentioned above, we had purchase a few of them, so wasn't keeping track so carefully), but it's upsetting they could hire someone who would do this; I'd like to think it was a mistake, but somehow I feel that some sales manager from this Chestnut branch is out wearing a v-neck cardigan, a twist neck jersey, and casual cool cargo pants, courtesy of my family! read more

I love kneesocks. I have quite a collection and love each and every pair as if they were my children. I love to pull them up high, put on some sweats, put on an old rerun of Seinfeld or perhaps SATC, heat up some hearty chicken soup, turn up the heat to 80, cozy up to my many cats and cry a little. Sometimes when I've had a particularly bad day I put them on my hands and do a little sock puppet role playing using "I" statements and a talking stick. But that's private. I came to Baby Gap on Saturday and experienced the worst customer service ever from a person who obviously didn't wanna be there. You know how you usually have to fight off overly cheerful Gap people when you enter the store? Not in the Baby Gap section. This woman obviously hated her job and couldn't even crack a smile. Let me re-phrase: They have the best selection of size XL Girls Gap Kids clothing in the city. If you wear a girl's size XL at Gap, you know the joy of getting an adorable dress (tunic), stretch pants (leggings), top, sweater, or anything really for anywhere between $3.97-$19.97, knowing that no one will ever guess where you bought it and NO ONE will be wearing it at the office on Monday. Seriously. I am right this very second sitting at my desk, in my office (hi, boss!), wearing a very professional skirt ($6.97), tank top ($3.97), and bra ($10) recently purchased at this very location. Ok- so I'm wearing them with $800 Bottega Venetta boots, a Kate Spade bag, and a Ted Baker jacket but still... Also love that this store has a lot of inventory. What can I say? I'm a yuppy. I'm a boring yuppy. I like boring yuppy things for really really cheap. I haven't been to a Gap store in many years. However, I was in dire need of a belt and a friend on the street mentioned the Gap would be the closest place. So I tied my dog up to the bike rack out front and took care of business inside the Gap. I was in and out in about 5 minutes and managed to find two decent belts at a reasonable price, overall a pleasant experience. I then untied my dog from the bike rack when a woman came up to me and said, "You probably aren't aware of this, but you shouldn't tie your dog up outside. I left my dog outside of a store and a Chow came along and ate and killed it." Wow...Definitely a gap experience I will never forget read more

I had a fantastic shopping trip here this past Wednesday. I like this store because it's not nearly as hectic as the Flood location downtown, and it actually is kind of nice to spend time in the Marina every now and again. I'm starting a new job this upcoming week, and I was in desperate need of some new clothes so I won't show up my first day looking like a hobo. They were having an amazing sale, and I ended up getting (4) pairs of shorts, a chambray button down, a t-shirt, a pair of pants, and a hat for $80, after the additional 30% came off for cardholders. When the cashier read the total, I looked at her and said, "Are you sure you got everything?" My only complaint is that the store was a little understaffed with only one associate on the floor and one cashier, and I had to track down an associate to let me into the fitting room. But you know what? Considering all the items I was able to get for $80, I would have been content to just strip on down in the middle of the sales floor and try it all on. Overall, I would recommend this location versus other locations in the City (i.e. Stonestown, Downtown, Post St.) because it's spacious, clean, and has a decent sale selection. This review is mostly based on what I like to call my "12 minute jeans." I was working my morning job, when I sat down, and rii-ii-iiip went the inside thigh of my beloved jeans I had owned for years, YEARS!! They are the only jeans that fit me perfectly, and I was quite pissed to realize that I would be wearing them no longer. Theoretically I could have worn them to my afternoon job, but decide that Chestnut St. Gap was on the way, and I would stop in to check if they had anything, in the half hour I had before my afternoon job. Sure enough, I parked, loaded the meter with 22 minutes, walked in, grabbed 3 pairs of jeans off the clearance rack (lady was marking things down as I was sifting through), and tried them on. The ones that fit like a freakin glove stayed on me, I ripped the tag off, and payed for them. $14.99! Walked over to starbucks to grab a coffee, walked back to the car, and still had 10 minutes on the meter. Hence, 12 minute jeans. And they were long enough!! Since then, I've returned, and found the selection lacking. But, in a pinch, as mentioned earlier, this Gap saved me! read more

I was in need of some basic, preppy, v-neck sweaters for the office and after having searched high-and-low could not find them anywhere! All I found were big, over-sized, chunky, itchy, ugly sweaters that were not the business. Where can I find a simple, soft, work appropriate sweater? How can it be that difficult? Then it came to me.... Gap. I've never been a big Gap fan so I'm not sure how this idea came to me...possibly intuitively. So I'm in the area and I head over to find me some sweaters. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. They were playing great music and there was no limit to the items you can bring in the dressing room! I found some hot pants I liked but they didn't have them in my size, so Gap dude printed a list of the stores that carried them in my size and the quantity at each store. Thanks! When I needed to run to an appointment yet had a few items I wanted to purchase, as well as come back to continue my shopping, another Gap dude held my items graciously for me. No attitude up in here! To top it all off, they had a great 40% off sale going on, which helped me grab 3 soft, gorgeous, just-what-I-was-looking-for sweaters in great colors. Now I like the Gap. I came into the gap a few days ago to pick out some professional looking black pants for my first interview (ever). I had no idea how the fits worked and couldn't find anything that looked professional. An employee named Hannah really helped me out, she knew the exact length and size I needed in the perfect style AND gladly went to the back to dig it out from the stock pile. She was so sweet and the pants were perfect. I always get really good customer service at the GAP, but Hannah really went above and beyond for me, even when I could tell she was super busy. I did great on the interview. 5 stars for GAP and Hannah. read more

Ok...i am not going to lie. I like Gap pants. They actually fit my abnormally long legs. I also happen to like their socks, underwear,and perfume. Gap is the kind of store that you dont really have to try anything on...you just grab your size and you know (for the most part) that they will fit when you get home. However, the quality of the clothes has rapidly gone downhill. I have a pair of gap jeans that fit me when I was 21...and now that I am **cough cough** 25 they still fit me, and have that cool looking worn in look to them. But I swear, i bought 3 pair of Gap pants last year, and they are so damn faded, I cannot wear them to work any more. Oh, and the sales people are non existent. I have never been a Gap friend. On a great once in awhile I will go in there and find something I like that is a decent basic. But lately, I have been seeing some cuter stuff, as I guess they are trying hard to compete with the American Eagles and J. Crews, as their clothing is looking more along those lines. With that said, after lunch at the Naked Fish, I wandered into here the other day. My friend had raved about the sale they had going on, ( they do have really really good sales) so I went in. If you can deal with all the Stepford Marina wives,new moms, and toddlers running around, the gossiping in every aisle, and the chattering about dinner parties, cardio barre and the whatnot, this is not a bad location. It's a good size, they have tons of inventory, and their sale section is larger than most of their Gaps. I walked away with 4 lightweight sweaters for $5.99 each, and 2 pairs of jeans for $19.99.............not bad for an unplanned shopping trip. The employees were average. If I am in the neighborhood, I would stop by this place. I would not make a special trip here. The store is rather clean, nicely organized, and well lit. You can even molest all the dogs that are tied up to the poles directly outside of their door (very cute dogs!). However, I can't say I love this place. I wasn't greeted by anyone during the short time I was inside and it seemed rather pricey. Compared to the downtown SF store, this place seemed rather expensive and with limited to no sales. It's right by public transit MUNI 30. Great place if you are getting weekend brunch on Chestnut Street or having a drink nearby. read more
