White Vans
Brian B.

Rolled up on a weeknight and started casually browsing through the men's section. I saw these practically brand new pair of white vans that were my size. I asked one of the employees, Kenzie, to see the other shoe. She initially could not find it and I thought no worries and move on. Kenzie made it her personal mission to find the missing shoe which she did. The fit was on point and the customer service even better so it was an easy decision.

I was visiting the city so I wanted to thrift to pass time. I was hoping SF had better pieces than SJ. // Location This Crossroads is located in Sunset district. It's a busy street with lots of other stores to check out. I went on a Saturday afternoon so parking was terrible and I had to go through multiple streets. My car is an SUV and I was surprisingly able to park in between two driveways (shoutout to the random lady on the street that helped make sure there was enough room). It took 10 minutes to walk to the store. // Organization The store was really well organized by section by garment and size, which made the process less overwhelming. Still a lot of clothes to dig through nonetheless. // Clothes Crossroads can be pricey. I'll see shirts from fast fashion stores that are priced at $15+ which seems unreasonable for used clothes. Some clothes had stains on it and I saw a pair of pants that were ripped at the crotch. Some pieces just seemed too worn down to justify the price. You can find pretty solid items if you check the label to see the value. I think it makes it worth it if it's something you know you can wear multiple times and look up the brand. * For example, I got a Tommy Hilfiger jacket from the men's section for $35. It was in great condition and I couldn't find a flaw. Normally jackets would be $100+. It's really big on me bc it's a men's large (literally swallows me) but I love it cos it reminds me of my moms clothes in the early 2000s. * The reversible bucket $15. The manufacturer is Super Prima which makes items in bulk so I have a feeling it might have been overpriced. I still decided to get it though cos I liked the look of it and didn't want to go through the trouble of ordering online (where I'd have to order 12 at once and pay for shipping) Other notes: * Men's T-shirt section was cool and had Urban Outfitters and Obey. I saw a cool Andy Warhol and Simpsons tee. * They had Lisa Says Gah, NAKD trousers (retails $50+, selling for $23), BGD denim, and other popular brands. * I wish the dressing rooms had more knobs to hang the clothes. I put my personal stuff on one and all the clothes I wanted to try on the other. It was hard to fit and switch between them. It tires me. * Staff was friendly when ringing me up and it was a nice chit chat. Tips: * If you find a piece you like, but the price tag seems discouraging, I recommend looking the brand online to see if it's worth buying thrifted. * Dont limit yourself to a section bc it's marked for "women" or "men". Big picture is that clothes dont have gender so dont limit yourself.

Sign about 3.5% surcharge to "preserve affordable prices"...WTF

Hit or miss. Can be really awful depending on the behavior of other shoppers. Noticed this sign in the dressing room about a surcharge?! Just raise the price, don't add on a 3.5% hidden surcharge that you only disclose on a sign hidden in the back dressing room, that's dishonest!

I felt the need to share my experience at Crossroads Trading. Last week I came in with clothes to sell, the individual who bought my clothes was so incredibly nice and went out of their way to make the experience rememberable. I wish I knew their name however they had a few piercings and hand tattoos. They also gave me recommendations of items I should purchase after I told them what I was looking for. They bought a lot of the items I brought in and will come again soon.

I decided to revisit Crossroads after they reopened this week. I decided I like the men's plaid shirt section and that it seems unisex to me in SF. I would buy plaid shirts and I decided on the "kale" shirt used for $13 and paid cash. I like to browse for a bit and I decided I don't like the ladies section and that it can be unisex.

One fellow had to depart for a break or the shift was over I can't remember which and he said goodbye after hypnotizing me with his skillful clothier ways. We were captive for better part of an hour on a day where plants and maybe a fun t-shirt were the only things on the agenda that couldn't be eaten. Plants in hand and t-shirt plan abandoned headed back to the vehicle on this side of Fillmore because the other side had already been traversed. And near Bush on that half block with old single-story SF historic shop buildings under small trees was 45R. Was it new? I hadn't noticed before or perhaps I wasn't paying attention because no, it had been there for almost a decade. And inside there weren't really the t-shirts I had originally thought I was interested in meeting but there were all these other tops and bottoms and quiet chill super helpful and engaging three then four shop people that wanted me to simply give them my wire transfer information so they could swap out all my savings for really cool clothing. I almost did! Though at the last minute elected to just procure a trousers and a t-shirt that wasn't even remotely what I had been considering but which also was actually perfect so there you go. Simply, you should just pop in. It doesn't matter your mood. If you're blue, your frown will turn upside down. If you're already having a good day, the rest will be better. If you've been cocktailing try really hard to not just volunteer access to all your accounts with an invitation to have at it. All their wares are high-quality, thoughtfully built, for everyday or special occasions, looks that maybe not everybody else is sporting. Worth a special trip and for sure a pop-in if you're traversing the shady side of Fillmore on a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

I was escorted to the dressing room which was the size of a small apartment. The employee (or possibly the owner) brought me several pieces to style the pants with and surprised me with how well everything fit my body (which is a challenge). She had a wonderful eye and explained the story behind many of the items I tried on. I was embarrassed to try on so many nice things without purchasing anything. I can't stop thinking about the drape of all the fabrics and how beautiful everything was. Hope to return and actually invest in one of this store's beautiful items.

I returned to the SF Bay area after being gone for almost 8 years in December 2023. The transition did mot go according to plan because life is often that way. It necessitated me shopping for a variety of clothes. Rolo has had a unique blend of clothes and quality/value for the discerning individual warrants perpetually shopping here as was the case for my friend's son Aaron exclusively. My needs are different for work attire and dinner/evening wear so Rolo didn't share in those categories. About a week ago, I was buying another swimsuit from the 50% off rack and a jock strap. In the middle of checking out, who I learned to be your employee #1, what I consider rudely interrupted the transaction between me and emplyee #3 to insistently question if I would vote for the existing mayor. After repeatedly asking for clarification, I explained I was a recent transplant having been gone for some time. What appears to be not satisfied with my answer, employee @1 went on to tell me there were no other candidate choices. The convo transitioned to the ills of the city being the fault of landlords of which I explained I fir in that category. Gabe, with what I consider false humility, corrected himself clarifying that the commercial property landlords are the issue, not residential. I interjected my close, more than 13 year relationship with the Marsten family, a prominent commercial property owner. (I have the express permission of a family member, Ursula, to use the family name - her response was that it appeared I was in the "right place at the right time."{ The mayoral representative interjected in the conversation that there were good and bad in all aspects of tenant/owner relationships, effectively ending the conversation. I returned days later to make employee #2 aware of a quality issue I had observed in my latest purchase. I followed in to ask who made what I consider a scene in the store. Howie replied that it was just employee #1, answering my follow on inquiry if he was an employee in the affirmative. The conversation also included how the recent show availed exclusive purchasing rights. Based on my 30+ years in and around supply chain, I know vendors provide exclusive purchasing arrangements i limited territories. The ideas above lead me to my present position. With the advent of online shopping and the advancements in motorized transportation, I will vote where I shop with my wallet. Rolo presently is not in the list of choices where I will procure what I want and need. Signed, Richard Scott The Mayor can contact the store as my direct email contained my personal cell phone.
