This review is long long overdue. The owner is the best. She has stories to tell about her life, and is the nicest shop owner I have ever met. She will also tell you if things fo not look good on you. The clothes are cool. Funky, men's, women's, unisex. She always gives a great deal on her merchandise. I love it here. Also, they are super dog friendly. She loves my Zeus. He loves her. She always has nice ice water out for the doggies. Today she shared her apple with my Zeus. Happened to walk by on our way to dinner. Had no intention of clothes shopping....then....Hubby's eye spots an amazing blazer they have displayed on a mannequin outside store - chic, fun, and perfect for SF. Betty was super sweet and very helpful. More shops need her type of energy and fun. Hubby walks out of shop wearing said blazer :) I didn't get a chance to look at the ladies stuff but what I could see from the men's collection, this place is a winner! This place has some decent clothing, but the customer service here is horrendous. Frankly, I am shocked that a business with this type customer service level can even exist in the United States. My wife bought some stuff here before, so she figured she would pick up a few shirts for me and if they don't fit, we can always bring them back or at least get a store credit as long as we have the receipt. Wrong! Based on the prices these guys charge, one can assume that this place tries to position itself like a high end clothing store, but when my 8 months pregnant wife came to the store she quickly changed her opinion of this place. The sales person (Percy Ramos) impatiently interrupted her and told her that he will not accept those shirts because it has been over 2 weeks. The manner in which he composed himself that was completely unprofessional and rude. He interrupted her numerous times and said that he was the "director" of the store and the only decision maker. When I called the store and introduced myself, he took over the conversation (while I was still taking) for about 3 minutes telling me how wrong we are and that there is nothing the store can do for us except "sell us some more clothes". When I tried to make a remark about him being unprofessional, he actually mocked my accent and made a Racial remark implying that I am unintelligent and ignorant when it comes to understanding how business is done in the U.S. Although he did not guess where my accent is from, he clearly he knows nothing about business ethics or even basic customer service. After this, he would refuse to give me his name, until I threatened to come in the store in person. I will wait about a week to give the store owners a chance to get back to me and will be writing a detailed letter to BBB. There is a certain responsibility that comes with running a business and employing random individuals without basic customer service skills shows a complete negligence toward our business regulations. read more

I use to work near this store. I have come here a handful of times. I would shop here more but it is expensive. I come here when I have a need to spice up my wardrobe and can afford to spend a few hundred dollars for one or two items. The best part about this store. They have items you cant find anywhere else. They also carry Docrtine, which is one of my favorite lines. Most of the stuff in here for men is pretty "pimped" out. I love it though. Its great to mix up a crazy studded T with a nice pair of dark jeans. I feel it gives me an edge. The last shirt I got from here Was on sale, which was great! I. Love. Sky. The fit of Sky's clothing is so amazing. This sounds trivial, but until you try on something from Sky, you have no idea what a great eye for design the brand has. From strategically placed accents, unique prints, and tastefully revealed skin, they have such pretty tops and dresses that make you feel oh so sexy. Sky is also ridiculously expensive for things that are typically made of jersey cotton. High Society is pretty much the only place I go to purchase things by Sky. This is because they seem to always pick out the best pieces by the brand to carry in their store. There are also plenty of other fun and unique items you just cant find anywhere else. This place takes a lot of the guess work out of choosing those choice expensive pieces for your wardrobe. You do have to channel your inner rockstar here though! Totally worth going to if you have some extra Benjamin's lying around. The service is super friendly and easy going. There is no pressure to buy and I always have a great time browsing. High society is it not. You aren't getting cookie-cutter conservative clothes here. This is very BAM! in your face, like Los Angeles or non-Harajuku Tokyo. Rock star with a cleaner edge. I got a pair of Crocker jeans here with a discount by the owner. Practically no one wears Crocker jeans, meaning it's great for receiving compliments (more so on my derriere than anything else). Price-wise, it's your standard Marina boutique; if you don't have an expendable income or you're fashionably frugal, you won't be able to buy ANYTHING. The jeans: $200 not including the discount (which, by the way is just like back home in Europa. I felt like I was back on the Black Market with a vendor that was decreasing the price the more attached to the item I got). Great store, although I have a feeling that if I indulge more than once a month, my credit card would start stabbing me in my sleep. read more

I love this store!!! The style of the clothing they have available is along the lines of a Metropark or PlanetFunk type place, but the brands are a lot more obscure, so you don't get stuck with people come up to you saying "hey! I saw that shirt last time I was shopping . . . " Prices are pretty reasonable to begin with, and the guy who always works there (I think maybe he's the owner) can be pretty flexible on price if he doesn't have exactly what you were looking for . . . for example the bf was looking at this one shirt and wanted it in black, but they only had his size in white so the guy gave us 30% off when we decided to go with the white one instead. Same thing when I really really wanted this one shirt, but they only had a M left. The discount nicely covered the alteration costs to make it fit :) read more

OK. this is a dilemma. They have good, cool jeans. Particularly one pair of jeans with white stitches all over the hem. i think its about $267. Trust me, they look damn cool. But, the rest of the stuff looked too over-the-top for me. Bottomline: If you want to dress like the pickup artist ,i mean, full on "peacocking", come here. You'll definitely be noticed!! And there are bargains to be had, as long as you keep your eyes open. Definitely got a more LA/Euro feel to the place, but that might've been the thumpa thumpa trance they were playing. It definitely has a LA feel. There's a store like it on Melrose called Blackjack Clothing. My favorite part about shopping at boutiques like these, is the guy gives you "a good deal" everytime. No one ever says "I'm gonna give you a little to no discount, so shop away!" This last visit I spent $300 on a pair of jeans, long sleeve tee, belt, and a toxic waste shirt. He gave me a $120 discount, which by most accounts is a really substantial discount. Overall, I love the vibe of the place, ambiance was chill, the guy working there dressed great, and I feel pretty sheik when i'm in there. As if I'm in on a secret store that sells very loud and awesome clothing. Thanks High Society for saving me a semi-annual trip to LA to shop for semi-eccentric and fantastic clothing. read more

The Place to get dressed in style and great service. I really felt in love with High Society and not only the amazing clothing they sell, but the service I got. Betty who works there was super kind and engaging in a way that a real friend would be. First of all I finally found a place to buy great clothes (especially one-of-a-kind tops to go with the zillions of jeans that I own). I also got the greatest service ever from Salar. I have to look no further to find a great boutique store for stylish clothes and friendly people. By the way- Salar didn't try to over-sell. He told me what didn't look good on me...and what did! The ladies window merchanising drew me in! Then the manager made me feel completely welcomed and at home, no pressure, just super engaging and REAL. The shop plays great music to keep you humming along while you shop. I just really enjoyed talking with the manager and she gave me a great discount that they happened to be promoting that day. The clothing selection is fantastic and versatile. My guy came in and had a choice between more dressy/upscale, or as she referred to it "Rock n Roll" styling. Loved it all! I don't usually leave comments on Yelp regarding my experiences with the stores of which I'm a patron. However, my experience was so fantastic - and so superior to any other store in that shopping area that I felt compelled to share my these details. The airlines lost my luggage - actually, I think a passenger accidentally took it home thinking it was theirs. Anyway, I literally only had the clothes on my back to wear. After coffee at the french place on Union St, I went into High Society. after I saw the cute ensembles in their windows facing the street. I explained my situation...the sales manager (BLAKE) could have tried selling me stuff that didn't look good as I had an unlimited budget (due to my sweet and successful boyfriend)...however, as I requested, he sold me enough outfits for my short stay. I wrote this because -- HE HAD THE MOST AMAZING TASTE IN CLOTHES. HE HAD THAT RARE QUALITY OF KNOWING "EXACTLY" WHAT WOULD MAKE ME LOOK MY BEST - AND SHOW MYSELF TO MY BEST ADVANTAGE. I left very happy with my purchases...and didn't have to further complicate my travel plans by buying another suitcase to accomodate my new purchases. THE SALESMANAGER'S NAME IS BLAKE. After being completely ignored at Ambiance, it is so nice to walk into a store that is attentive and unobtrusive. The style is great from chic to urban rock-star. I got a cute jersey amazing fit white dress that Toniya suggested. She is so sweet and helpful, I would have NEVER picked it out, and it looked AMAZING! Plus they are the only store that sells Salvage which is so punk, raw and mixing of fabrics its seriously HOT. What is better is that they do not buy a huge stock and thus not everyone has it, making it unique. They also have some great men's clothes. read more

Update: Since writing the review below, the owner reached out to me and apologized for his employee's behavior. So the observations below are likely outdated. I'm in the market for new jeans and have walked past this place several times at night. Was finally able to visit during store hours today and would NEVER go back. As soon as I walked in, the shopkeeper began pushing jeans, shoes, shirts and offering special discounts, claiming to be the store owner. Now, trust me, I understand how difficult retail on Union Street must be in this economy. My ex boyfriend owned a store years ago, so I get it. But when I didn't immediately bring anything to the counter, he said, "Oh, you're just browsing I guess? That figures." Nevertheless, I continued browsing and was on the verge of trying on a sweater when the guy said, "They have this stuff down the street at Rugby. You should just go there." Unsure as to whether I'd just been insulted, I politely said that I'd come back and inquired about Saturday store hours. He looked at me incredulously, didn't answer my question, and went back to texting on his cell phone. I mean... is this guy nuts? I'm a gay guy living in the Marina (i.e. I spend money on clothes) who goes out of his way to support local businesses. But I'll never go back in here (and by the way, most of the clothing is best described as Euro trash). Fortunately, I found a cool shirt just down the street-- at Rugby of all places. After one satisfying experience at High Society, I went back for another and was sorely disappointed. The owner(?) was very pushy. He sold me 2 shirts at discounted prices, but when I got them home I realized that they were damaged and he was trying to get rid of them by saying that the irregularities were supposed to be a'the style".
