My husband was looking for black jeans but ended up finding a great fitting light grey pair! The Jeans were hemmed and sewn and ready the next day- awesome, cause he was needing them soon. The price is the price. They have their own brands and others I haven't seen before a lot of unique tops, sweater's, jackets to check out as well etc. Nice to discover a new place to look. Came in looking for some new denim jeans and just saying I was helped is an understatement, was guided and styled by Harold himself who is so sweet and thoughtful. I think it's rare these days to come across a craftsman whose so skilled and knowledgeable in their trade like Harold, it's honestly an experience! He picked out some jeans for me after I told him what I was looking for and they were perfect, love them!! Their sales folks are jeaniuses ;) I brought my fav pair in to have the crotch fixed up. Repairs take 1 week / $25 (good deal) My girl and I hoped on finding some solid black jeans. They offered us a few options and again the sales folks helped narrow it down quickly. Overall we were in and out in about 30 mins. Great shop, great reputation and solid products. I was in the area and decided to check out this little store with my brother in law, immediately upon entering we were greeted by the owner, however while looking at some jeans and sweatshirts, we were being watched very closely by a worker standing directly in front of the entrance door, I ignored this, and after my brother in law tried on some ($280) jeans, the owner approached and asked us what he thought. He said he loves them, but is browsing around for now. The man's expression visibly shifted from a smile to a frown, and he told us that "if we want to browse we should check out other places" and literally motioned us out the door with his hands. I was about to buy a jumper, but I'm glad I didn't, because rude and greedy business practices should not be rewarded. I finally decided to go for my holy grail of raw denim and bought a pair of Samurai Geisha. I originally wanted to get them hemmed at another store in Socal with more experience but gave A B Fits a try because of their denim collection and reviews. I am beyond disappointed that they did not get the hem right.... One leg is longer than the other and I even expressed to them how important this pair jeans is to me and what it means to have it done right. If both sides were too long it wouldn't be a problem but one hem is the right length and the other is too short...unbelievable.... at least they got the tapering part right -_- . I am so disheartened that my favorite pair of jeans just got ruined if this can't be fixed.. I waited a really long time before purchasing this pair and it means the world to me... can't believe it turned out like this. If you have a pair of jeans that you love.... beware and be sure to tell them the length exactly! Don't depend on just the pinning because they only pin one side!! I've had a really good experience at this store but only for men's clothes. My fiance bought a pair of pants there once and a few weeks later went back where not only did they remember his name, they also remembered his size, and pulled out the jeans he wanted without even asking him! Then when I went to buy him something and wasn't sure it would fit the same salesman, who happened to be about the same size, tried it on and then MEASURED it against another shirt he had to make sure it was the right fit. So nice! Sometimes it does feel kinda stuffy (particularly the downtown store more than the northbeach one) but they have some really cool things and a good selection of jeans for men and women. A lot of places can be thorough and friendly if nothing out of the ordinary happens but when something is not in the 'if x then y' matrix do you fall apart? However, if your thighs are rippled like Thor's and your legs can kick Shaka Zulu's arse (like mine can), then the selection is perhaps a bit slim. Nevertheless, there's a nice selection of custom (never-heard-of-the-designer) brands that are fresh and you won't run into someone wearing on the BART. The staff that I encountered here were very strong-willed, which is good when they apply that "will" to helping you get a nice fit. It also means that they'll try to sell you something even if it "painted on" (re: Thor's thighs) and not too comfortable. So be strong-willed back. After jeans shopping failure in two states at 12 different stores (probably more than five dozen attempted pairs) I had nearly given up on having denim in my middle-aged life all together under the sad life realization that NOBODY makes jeans for men of average height and shape. (Special "thank you, Bitch" to the kid at Citizen's in the Castro for being brutally honest ["Yeah, those are a total snore on you."]) So I relinquished my false sense of control and gave my free over will to the search engine of yelp, vowing to try whatever shop first popped up on my search: "Best jeans shop for men, San Francisco, CA." And voila: AB Fits appeared--like a Marina Chick at a Lulu Lemon sale. After an extremely no-pressure welcome to the shop (and a greeting by resident dog, Ginger), I gave my challenge to the sales staff: 30" waist, hips, and moderate quadriceps (that means "skinny fit" jeans won't even clear my knees). After another ten try-ons, and an admitted "Yeah, you have an interesting body shape," from George. "But I don't think you have a 30-inch waist," Ginger accompanied me to the changing room, where we settled on two pairs: one Levi's vintage redux and one San Francisco line--both high waist-ed to give my freakish body a more-normal look (RE: hide those hips!). George's sales commission from my purchase will probably pay half his rent for the month--I tried bargaining him down by asking what my "check in on Yelp!" discount was [nada/zilch/nothing]--but that's okay. Mission complete. I now have new jeans (or will have after the "free" hemming, which will take about a week)--and a great place to go to get future pairs. One happy camper! read more

OK, so I'm from LA. That means I am used to great shopping: offbeat boutiques, emerging designers... it is easy to dress well there. Not so up here in the Bay Area. People really wear Banana Republic... like, all the time. As I cannot afford to fly back down south every time I need a wardrobe update, I was very pleased to find AB fits. They actually carry jeans that are not found in every low-budget shop on Union Street. I bought three pairs that I already love endlessly, and they are not seven/citizens/james/true religion/chip&pepper. The salespeople really know their stuff: trust them, and they will find what you want, and steer you away from what won't work (example: I wanted to try on some Rogans, but was dissuaded as they were "not for my body type". I pushed, and had a horrible self-esteem moment when said jeans would not go past my knees). Plus they hemmed them for free - nice touch. read more

Lots already written about AB Fits, but worth mentioning again how refreshing it is to go grab a pair of jeans at a place that knows their shit and doesn't carry an attitude to prove it. Went a few weeks ago not really looking to buy anything, but decided to try a few pairs on anyway. I'm not super picky, but generally don't buy spur of the moment. The woman working that day pulled out some sizes, had me try a bunch of options on and found a pair that fit perfect, decent price and exactly the style/wash that I prefer (plain pockets, dark wash, and straight cut). Yeah prices are high in general, but you (should) know that going in. The free alterations shave a couple $$ off buying other places, combine that with the good karma of supporting a local business and you've almost self justified the extravagance. read more

Came in after getting my mani/pedi next door - after checking to see that the dog was not there. Being afraid of dogs, I've been kept away from here often. This visit, I met the owner - Howard. I also managed to pick up a couple tops, a dress, two denim trousers and a jacket for hubby. Love the Raven trousers - great for work and play. Great to see they are carrying more feminine tops, not just sporty ones. The soft material and simple cut with a twist makes a great top. I just had two jeans repaired here and while a little pricy, they did a fantastic job that will last me a long time. They stock various fits/jeans for both men and women, from skinny to straight, all from reputable producers, so quality is never an issue. Plus, they'll alter your denim purchases for free after noting where changes need to be made. Apart from the buying experience, AB Fits is also a joy to work with in terms of alterations. The crew is extremely knowledgeable about pants and really does deliver when it comes to fix-ups. Which are reasonable. The shop has provided to both denim connoisseurs and casual-pants-wearers for 20+ years, and the quality of their goods, their customer service and their overall knowledge of the industry is exemplary. I was looking for a jean jacket, and we spent the next half hour trying on a variety of jackets in all styles and price points. If, like me, you realize that there is a dinner party in 90 minutes and you just finished a bike ride at your buddy's place and your apartment is on the other side of town and can't wear full spandex to said dinner party... shop here. I had seen the store a handful of times, even browsed once or twice, and hadn't bought anything. I dug everything on offer, but couldn't swing the price to add to my already full closet. Until the story above happened and I knew I'd like everything I bought from AB Fits and wear it all again. I don't do throw away, or too trendy style so everything needs to last. Howard hooked me up. Jeans (Levis Made & Crafted), Button up (Taylor Stitch) and cardigan (Gant) in under 40 minutes, every bit of it from the sale section, and all of ti rad. I had a great time talking through options with Howard, he instantly picked up on my style preferences and fit, and went to work. I have since shopped here several times (read: a lot). Buying things both on sale and at rack rate, and every stitch of it worth whatever I paid for it. He stocks quality and sells style. You want both in your closet. read more

The second I walked into the shop I was a greeted by a beautiful dog, whose name and breed I did not get. They had a wide selection of apparel, and a beautifully set up store front. The woman who helped me had such an impressive knowledge of jean brands and types, and was able to find the perfect pair of jeans for me on the first try. The hemming is done on the spot for free, and they were even willing to ship the jeans out to my home in Boston. This place had the best service I've ever received at a clothing store, and I will certainly be returning here for another pair of jeans next time I'm in the market for some. TL;DR: Howard's the man. If you want quality denim and a ton of other stuff you won't see elsewhere, go here. We're lucky to have a spot like this in SF. Alterations are great too (and way cheaper than Self Edge). Howard knows his stuff, gives great recommendations, and has a laid back personality that I imagine would be inviting to even the noobest of denim noobs. His customer service alone is a reason to pick this place over the competition (trust me, I've tried a few others). The shop has a good selection of US brands, but also carries some Japanese brands (e.g. I got a pair of Big John jeans). Only reason I'd buy from another shop honestly is if there's a maker I want that AB doesn't carry (not like most of this stuff ever goes on sale, especially true of the brands AB Fits doesn't carry). My whole experience at this store all happened within 45 minutes, but I can safely say that this was my top shopping experience that I've ever had at any clothing store that I've ever purchased something from. The store rep, George, was a really nice guy who helped me figure what pair of APC raw denim jeans would be right for me. He was really informative and helpful in helping me figure out what jeans would fit to my style. He finally picked a pair for me from a pile and I was pretty sold on these jeans; they fit so well and looked great on me, there was no doubt in my mind that these were the pair for me. After choosing these awesome jeans, George said to me that he could fit and hem the jeans for me for the low low price of FREE. What did he just say? I was thrilled about this except for one factor. The jeans would be ready in a week, but I live all the way in Fremont and traveling back to the store would be quite an ordeal for me. The owner overheard me saying this to the rep and walked over to me and said, "We like to take care of our customers who travel far distances so how about I hem those jeans for you today? I can do it in 15 minutes." I instantly became a strong believer that this store employs and is owned by superheroes. I paid for the APCs, left the store, and after 20 minutes I came back and the store rep hands me a store bag with the jeans wrapped up, ready to take home. Denim Lovers rejoice! This is THE spot for underground brands of quality jeans. Lots, if not most of the store carries "made in USA" clothing. There was a diverse variety of raw and washed denim neatly stacked in a long island display. They do offer a fitting rooms and the ambiance was chill and friendly.
