Came in to trade in a psa graded card and the associates tried telling me my card looked fake. I could understand the hesitation if this was a high value one or did have some fake looking parts of the slab but it didnt. this was a $35 slab that i won online and no one in their right mind would fake such a low value item. Tried explaining this to the clerk and told him i don't live nearby and he didnt want to hear it and told me come back when their expert was in to verify it. Totally ridiculous, they made me waste a trip out here and 45 minutes of my time. This store was also terribly understaffed when they had instore drops. The employees were a big help here! I believe the two guys that helped me were Marco and Dante, sorry guys if I spelled your names wrong. I was trying to return an elite controller & get a new one since I had the warranty. They were both very patient and respectful with me while trying to find my account information/transaction. They were able to help me out and find it after all, and I was able to get a new controller. It was a huge help so I didn't have to go back to the store I got it from since it was sort of out of the way. Came into this store after work to get the new Zelda game. After patiently waiting in line, the person at the register helped someone else who just walked in before helping me. A bit suspicious, but whatever. When I get to the register, he tells me they can't sell me the game if I didn't pre-order it. Thats some BS. It felt like the employee at this store is either racist or prejudice. I ended up going to Target and getting it from there. Tons in stock. No hassle. No excuses. GameStop isn't all that bad as a company. It has its issues. But this store is one of the worst. I'm an avid gamer who purchases new games even if I don't have the time to play them all. This GameStop location is in a strip mall so parking is easy and accessible. The store is set up like most of these chain stores are and they keep a good stock of the most popular games. The staff is highly knowledgeable and friendly. They help get me hooked up with an Xbox One and even took my old Xbox in trade. Don't go in there trying to sell your old games and peripherals for any significant amount of money and you wont be disappointed. They will give you a fair price for what it is...old tech that most of the world is no longer in the market for so it doesn't command any great return...games are NOT an investment...lol. They have an extensive used game stash...better than most I have seen, probably due to the location being so convenient. Used games and peripherals are a great buy and many where never used so if you don't mind not getting the original packaging you can save a nice bit of cash. Why not a 5*...the up sale! They are in a constant loop. If you know what you want, get in, get it and get out...if you diddle around and are indecisive...the up sale will be on. For all the popularity these games and systems have, THEY ARE NOT INVESTMENTS...if you like limited edition games and content, pay for it and enjoy it, don't try to get a return on the initial expense later and blame the store. What should have taken no more than 30 seconds was a 4 minute nightmare of trying to get me to refund the game so that I could repurchase it with the protection plan, which is something I already said I didn't want when I bought the game online. Then, while the employee was holding my game hostage, I was vigorously informed about my ability to pre-order and about some random upcoming game that I had zero interest in. I cannot imagine the circumstances that would get me into their store again. read more

I made it 1 minute before closing and proceeded to ask lots of questions about warranty and controllers. They answered every one and never pressured me to leave as they were technically closed. Very nice people. Right before I left I asked if they knew of any StarWars games for switch. This one I've been in a few times and have always treated me very well. I came in this morning to return a controller that all I did was get hassle from the girl in the San Marcos location and was helped and greeted by Reggie... Super nice guy very helpful very honest. I should have reviewed this awesome place a long time ago. Every time I come here I get the best games including Mario Kart Wii. I keep thinking we should go to Wal-Mart for our video games since sometimes they are cheaper but they are always sold out of the popular titles and I hate wasting a trip. They even have a scanner at the front of the store where you can scan new and used games to get pics, videos and even pro and user reviews. They can tell you about new games coming soon in on various systems and you can play some games in the store. I have never heard them say they were out of something. Yippee :) read more

The used items can be a good buy sometimes & same for the employees they can be very helpful & even take extra time to help you. All of which can be very nice for the customer. Yet I still can't give them more then 3 stars for this reason - Personally I always feel like this stores employees are either up selling you or deceiving you; at least the few times over the years I have gone there. I often feel ripped off or worse cheated. They do offer a awesome return policy though, just be sure to go before 6 days as I have had issues if it is the 7th day for returns or exchanges. If I go to the other store I have had better luck, but still the same game playing by employees as I stated above. Which leads me to believe it is more a company thing & thus my big issue. If I wanted a shady used car sales person selling me game's I would come to this place. My friend works for another store like this but different company & used to work for this one; he has warned me not to buy unless I am sure of it & to be very careful of the used items (even the refurbished ones). With all of that aside, you can sometimes find a great deal. If you don't mind the above. Parking is not the safest even with such a large lot, lights & sheriff near by. This is in light of going there on Black Friday. We went there to do a trade in, of a PS3 and Wii although we didn't have the nunchuck so they wouldn't take the Wii (no big deal.) My partner waited in the very long line as I looked around at the different merch, I was looking at the different Pokémon decks when the cashier turned around and asked me if he could help me with anything. However he wasn't very friendly, the decks were close to behind the table, so I don't think he liked me being there. He was impatiently working people through the line. When my partner reached the front I went and stood with her, the same cashier from before did the trade in- mumbling the entire time of what a hurry he was in. He didn't have time for any questions, for some reason my phone number did not go through for the power up rewards card (I pay extra to be a Pro member because I go in often to do trade ins.) He just bypassed that part of the system, meaning I didn't get my extra trade in credit I usually do. I understand it's Black Friday, but each costumer deserves time and respect. The other employees were nice even with the added pressure. My partner and I were hoping to get a game but after the experience with the cashier we just left. I traded in my PS4 and a bunch of games that I never used, to put towards the purchase of a new 3DS. The trade went well enough, but before coming here, I checked online, double and triple checked online to make sure they had them in stock, which they did. I told them I wanted a brand new 3ds, not a used or a refurbished model but a brand new one, they come back from the back room with a refurbished unit. I explained to them that wasn't what I wanted, and the website showed they had some available ( I understand what the website says and actual stock could be off) they said all they have are the refurbished models. I asked if any other gamestops in SD county had one and I could go pick it up. They checked and said no stores anywhere had one and if I wanted one they would have to order it and it would be a few days. I took my store credit for my trade ins and began to look around the store, I called the Gamestop in Encinitas and asked if they had the New Nintendo 3DS in stock or if they had to order it, they said they had MULTIPLE on hand. I also asked if they could check stock on other stores and they said the Vista location, one of the San Marcos and an Escondido store all had a few new in box units on hand. I ended up driving to the Encinitas location, not only picked up my new console, but also bought multiple games from that location. This Vista location is the most convenient in terms of distance from my house, but I will take my business to a different location after this, and I have since this incident a few months ago. read more
