They said they could look at it for $395+ if I needed a new drive it would also be additional. The other option was buy a year warranty membership for $195 plus anything else I might need so it cost about $315 to fix my claptop, an HP. I dropped it off on Friday, picked up on Sunday night. Today marks the worst interaction I've ever had with a retailer in my 40+ years of consciousness. Here's the recap: I recently bought a tablet from a Best Buy (BB) competitor, but I saw a better tablet on BB's website that was an open box. I returned the first tablet and immediately went to the San Marcos BB to buy the open-box. The item was cosmetically fine, and the box had "Inspected by Best Buy" stickers on it. Great, so far. I got the tablet home and charged, but when I went to do the initial setup, the tablet was *still logged in by the previous owner!* So much for "inspected." I performed a factory reset and tried again. Nope, factory reset protection meant I still needed the previous owner's credentials. I called Geek Squad (GS) and they assured me they could handle it. I drove BACK to the store, only to be told the tablet could be returned or exchanged. Seemingly annoyed with the most basic form of customer service, the 20-something redhead GS member told me two stores with comparable open-box items. So later, I drove to *another* BB store, only to be told they could not locate the item. Wow. Ok, I'll take the credit on a gift card, since my debit card would take days to clear a refund. In the BB parking lot, I used the gift card to order a comparable (but out-of-area) open-box item from their website, then I drove an hour home. When I got home, I had an email that the order was canceled because they could not locate the item at yet another store! Now there's no tablet and no money left on the gift card. I talked to four different overseas CS reps, telling the story four different times, only for them to tell me they will investigate and then mail out another gift card in 2-4 business days. Today is Wednesday and I need the tablet this weekend. Four business days means, maybe, next Tuesday. That's fitting, I guess. See You Next Tuesday! I'll waiting at the front door of my bank in the morning, and filing an immediate charge-back for the $300 that has vanished into the ether. Naomi was there to greet me and assit with whatever I needed. She spoke to me about my experience at the Oceanside location , expressed sympathy and said she let the manager know what happened. Ruben and I spoke a little later where he walked me through pricing and took the time to check on an open box item that wasn't on display. I feel he and Naomi went above and beyond to help me out. Have been a Geek Squad Total member for many years and have always been satisfied with their service. The agents are knowledgeable and have always solved our issues with computers, printers, etc. That being the case, the Best Buy telephone services are as frustrating as any I have ever dealt with. The virtual assistant system does not offer opportunity to reach the correct person unless you have an extension and will cut you off repeatedly unless you ask for something you don't want like sales. The chat line advises it will send your email a verification code that I have yet to receive after several different exchanges. For a merchant that sells technology, one would expect a particularly competent method for contacting a live person for help. read more

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding the frustrating and unacceptable experience I've had with a recent appliance issue. I am a disabled veteran and nearly 70 years old. I have been a loyal Best Buy customer, but this recent situation has left me feeling ignored and unsupported. Less than a year ago, I purchased an LG over-the-range microwave from Best Buy along with an extended warranty. The unit has since stopped heating. When I contacted the Geek Squad, I was told, without much explanation, that since the product was still under the manufacturer's warranty, they could not assist me and that I needed to call LG directly. I was confused--I bought the product and the protection from Best Buy. The Geek Squad agent ended the call without giving me LG's number or any helpful direction. I had to look up the number online myself. LG support walked me through some steps, confirmed the unit needed a repair, and arranged for a technician from Teckrom to come out three days later. When the Teckrom technician arrived, he said he didn't have the necessary parts. A few days later, he returned this time with a step ladder but then told me he couldn't remove the microwave from the wall to complete the repair. He said I would need to have it removed by the original installer. I contacted Best Buy installation services, and I was told they do not offer uninstall services and that any complaints related to installation had to be made within 60 days of purchase. Should I have predicted I'd need to remove the microwave months later? That's not reasonable. This experience has raised serious concerns for me:    *   Why am I being pushed off to the manufacturer when I bought the product--and protection--from Best Buy?    *   Why doesn't Best Buy support its own installation or coordinate uninstall assistance when it's needed for repair?    *   What exactly am I paying Best Buy for if not for service, support, and a sense of responsibility? I am now being told I must hire someone out of pocket to uninstall the microwave just to get it repaired. This is incredibly disappointing and feels like Best Buy is stepping away from its responsibilities. I am requesting the following: 1. Assistance in having the microwave properly uninstalled at no cost to me so that the repair can be completed. 2. A clear explanation of what my extended warranty covers and why Geek Squad refused to assist. 3. A commitment that Best Buy will take more ownership over its sales and services in the future--especially for senior and veteran customers like myself. Well, I learned something from my unfortunate interaction this afternoon with The Geek Squad at the San Marcos Best Buy. I hope they learned something, too. But I'm not so sure. Ever come across someone in a service business job where their attitude is you the customer are there to serve them instead of them serving you? Funny, but my wife experienced that at the nearby DMV this morning. But let's face it, that is what we all expect from a government agency, particularly the DMV, but not a retail store. My wife had taken my computer in to get serviced, to fix the blue screen of death issue that continued no matter how many times I uploaded and ran the Windows OS 11 system repair. After about two or three days, they emailed her saying it was ready for pickup. She was required to complete an online form for a pickup appointment day and time. She unfortunately missed that appointment and when she went in at a later date, they refused to release the computer to her, as they insisted they needed to brief her on exactly what they did to fix the problem. Evidently, they could not do this without said appointment. The fact the service repair was already paid for made no difference. And no consideration was given to provide a telephone briefing at a time convenient for her. Nope, their store. Their rules. When faced with this reality, she told the Geek Squad service representative that she would instead send me back to pick up the computer, so I could get the service briefing and not her. She rightfully reasoned I would have the questions to ask she would not. But nowhere in this Geek Squad interaction was she told that I needed to be on the service ticket, otherwise they would not release the computer to me. So, I show up at the appointment only to be told they could not release the computer to me as I was not on the service ticket. The Geek Squad representative was equal parts unapologetic and adamant. Her stated reason for doing this was to protect the data on the computer from unauthorized access. Quite honestly, I do appreciate that. But the fact my CA driver's license showed me having the same last name and same home address did not persuade her. Neither did putting my wife on speakerphone while I was in the presence of the Geek Squad representative. The Geek Squad representative's fix was to give my wife the corporate phone number for her to get me on the service ticket. It took my wife only about 5 minutes to bust through Best Buy's automated telephone prompts to get to a live human being. She is good at doing this. And she reported that the corporate office service representative was friendly and helpful when finally connected to them. Pro tip: Keep repeating the phrase "customer service" in response to all the tiered automated system prompts. In most cases this is the fastest way to get to a real live human being in any automated call center. It occurs to me repeating the phrase "you suck" might work as well, but I digress. So, what should have been a 10 minute event ended up being 45 minutes, which included 10 minutes of me asking questions regarding what they did and why their approach of wiping the hard drives, clean installing an OS from a flash drive (and not from an online download from Microsoft like I had been doing) was going to have a better outcome. From all this I got one quick, meek apology from the Geek Squad representative. She was convinced all along that they were in the right and had a difficult time recognizing people make mistakes, including Geek Squad folks. My wife and I have run our marketing agency for 40 years. No one has to tell either of us how crucial customer relationships are for your business. So, here are a few tips to our friends at Best Buy. Show a sincere interest in helping the customer, no matter how bad your day might have been up to that point. Ask their first name and use it in the interaction. When a conflict arises from the company's stated policy, use power words like "easy" and "fast" when offering a solution as a way to minimize the sense of inconvenience you are imposing on the customer. Recognize that we are all human and fallible, including the folks at Best Buy. Show some empathy when delivering bad news and not a "that's your problem and them is the rules" attitude. The Day After Update The Blue Screen of Death (BSD) error occurred again. Only the browser running when it crashed with the message "Critical Process Died". So, insult to injury. The Geek Squad did an incomplete job that did not rectify my problem. I raised the "what-if it happens again?" question to the Geek Squad representative when picking up the computer. She said they would run an extensive diagnostic check of the system. I'm not sure I want to run that gauntlet again. read more

Should be ZERO stars. Purchased car audio for our truck. All suggested equipment was wrong. Day of installation installer did not show, nor did he call out of work. Wasted a day off. Rescheduled for a different location, and that's when we were advised that ALL the equipment was wrong and that I needed to order something extra from Japan. No thanks, wasn't going to continue to wait. RETURNED everything. I was still being charged for equipment and an "installation fee" i never received. Filed a BBB complaint and they were useless. Best Buy confirmed they messed up finally removed the installation charges but not the charges for the equipment i returned. Sent me to collections and screwed my credit. I purchased a printer 3 months before that broke down. He explained why that printer was the worst for my situation. Geek Squad Car Review: Hector or whoever the tech who service my car was very unprofessional. I came in with my car regarding some audio issues and to install new speakers I bought at Best Buy. Before starting the install and paperwork I asked some basic questions like asking if replacing my front car speakers would resolve my audio issues since they started out of nowhere a week prior. Hector then proceeded to claim that my cars age and stock speakers were blown without actually testing them or inspecting them. He then proceeded to install the new front speakers, and after installing he handed back my car to which I told him I'd like to test it before signing off the installation completion. After testing the problem was not fixed and the audio sounded exactly the same as the old stock speakers, I then mentioned to him that a week prior I had new spark plugs installed and asked if that could be a potential issue he then mentioned it was unrelated and my stereo was the issue. He turned me away and told me I would need to buy a new stereo and come back when I had another appointment. I ended up taking my car to the mechanic to switch out the spark plugs and that fixed the issues I was having with the audio. Faulty spark plugs were the culprit and saved myself from spending hundreds of unnecessary dollars. I decided to make another appointment for a audio check up after fixing my audio issues to confirm with geek squad I was no longer having issues and when arrived hector (the tech) decided to start tearing down my center console with power tools and not being professional and ended up breaking some screw covers etc. please take pictures before coming here and beware! read more

I took the T.V. back to the store and they said it was 1 day outside of the return policy, "1 day". I was upset and let my son know. He called Corporate Customer service and they told him if he purchased additional coverage for $50 it gives him 30 more days. He purchased it, the additional protection for $50 and I returned to the store only to be told by the store manager Jordan Alexander that he still was not going to exchange it or honor what his corporate customer service said. A retired firefighter bought me a new computer from Best Buy and was told at the time of purchase that I could bring it into Geek Squad to get my old laptop data transferred for free to the new computer. When I arrived for my appointment with the Geek Squad in San Marcos - the two employees had zero personality and didn't seem to be enjoying their job much. When I explained the situation they said that even though it was a gift purchased at Best Buy that they could not transfer the data for free, but I could pay like $120 or something. Plus a sales pitch for maybe $180 annual subscription of some sort? I joked with them that I was clueless with computers and how hard would it be to transfer the data if I reached out to a friend that was a little more tech savvy than me - and then he just regurgitated a sales pitch about their geek squad protocol basically being the best and did not answer my question. I was ready to get it done and had they answered any questions or had any sort of personality it could have been an easy sale... I figured I would rather go to a small business if there was one available, and I saw the five star yelp reviews for J&B. I gave them a call and had a pleasant phone conversation where I was treated like a human being and all of my questions were answered thoroughly. Same when I showed up in person - nothing but positive vibes and genuine care for my situation. Also, Jim has a great personality and doesn't take offense if you ask simple questions. J&B did the work super fast and when I came to pick it up Jim again was extremely pleasurable to interact with, and so was Chris who walked me through very basic computer things that might be annoying for Geek Squad if they would even take the time to answer them. Jim clearly cares about members of his community as well as the environment. I had no idea how the recycling business works and how we can donate to some organizations and they make profit and don't properly dispose of the computer parts they don't use. First, this review is a reflection on the entire Best Buy/Geek Squad customer service debacle they operate as a brand/company which has completely devolved. While their individual customer service reps speak to you respectfully, they are quite inept at solving basic issues and must be following protocol not to escalate anything, ever to management or someone who may know something. My husband & I purchased a mesh system and router spending over $1300 for the items as well as their "service" membership. We scheduled install for 1 week later (earliest date available). We received text messages re: item delivery and a live customer service call a few days later confirming the appointment. I was told to expect a call the day before for a tighter time to expect the tech. Well, that call/contact/text never happened. The day of the appointment, I spent from 7:30am to noon on customer service live chats and calls (approx 6 different agents) who had a range of responses like, "you never had an appointment," " you have to reschedule your appointment & pay for service again," to "this is not my dept," to "this is not in the scope of what I can do," to several more. Well, when I asked to escalate this to management, I was told "ok" only to be sent to another agent in another department who was just as unhelpful as the previous one. Yes, the proverbial run-around. I asked to speak with a manager more than 5 times and was never connected to one. There were problems with my "old" account from 15yrs ago being conflated with my newer account from 5 years ago to my current account info- all of which has still not been handled. So #1-they could not reschedule me within a reasonable amount of time (within 5 days). #2- They couldn't connect me with management. #3- They couldn't update my account. #4-They didn't give me any reason to believe that any one of them truly knew what they were doing and NEVER SOLVED MY ISSUE, a simple reschedule. I spent 4.5 hours of my life I can't get back speaking to individuals who CANNOT assist their paying customers. DO NOT buy anything from Best Buy, Geek Squad and expect SERVICE from them. This includes their upsell service membership which is laughable (refund requested). I went online and called a service tech company for install and got an appointment for 9am next day at a reasonable price. read more
