This review is for the new Double Chocolate Mint Sundae at the Costco Food Court. If you're on the fence about the new Mint Sundae, get the vanilla/mint swirl. It reminds me of a Shamrock Shake but not as sweet, and the vanilla rounds out the mint perfectly. The chocolate fudge and the crunchy cookie bits on top are the perfect combo kinda like a deconstructed Thin Mint. Love that Costco has this flavor and color combo in time for St. Patty. Not my favorite Costco. For some reason, this is the worst parking lot of the SD locations. Best gas, worst lot. Almost impossible to get a handicap spot, and some of the most irritable shoppers. Endless circling for a spot must really make them nuts, because I've been yelled at more than once. Indoor food court, which makes it more difficult to just get food. Not as much seating as Carmel Mountain, so you may be standing to eat. And a lot of people eat after they shop, so watch out for carts parked everywhere. The rest of the warehouse is similar to the smaller locations, but each has its own layout inside. They don't seem to get the specialized items that some locations do, but they have all the standard items. read more

My real gripe, though, is with the young man working the AT&T kiosk who was heading to work on Tuesday at 3:30 PM. Son... I was kind enough to let you in front of me on the freeway. I even let your distracted driving slide because I try to be a decent human. But then you cut me off again, TWICE- on Nordahl and on the way into the Kohl's parking lot and around the backside of Costco. And you didn't even have the decency to let Costco customers cross with their carts to get to their cars. Get off your phone (yes, I saw you on it) and DO BETTER. Picture it- December 21, 2025. It's the Sunday before Christmas, there's a huge storm about to swallow up all of California, and it's the last day of the sale booklet.... Now, I don't celebrate Christmas and I try to avoid all the holiday madness, but I couldn't avoid Costco on this fateful morning. I needed a few regular items. With a solid plan in place, I parked at 8:57am and took full advantage of the executive hour. I timed getting in line JUST as they opened the door- I didn't care that I was all the back by the loading dock. The line started to move, and quickly! Costco employees were prepared- they had 3 people outside making sure everyone followed instructions and no one cut in line. Let me tell you...you don't want to mess with these bouncers! Once inside, everyone (minus me!) made a beeline to the bakery and meat department. I was able to get what I needed in peace, before I headed that way. That's when the mad rush started and I overheard everyone's holiday plans, what they were making, what day, and what they needed. I was able to stay in my Costco zone, game face on, get what I needed, make my way to the cashier (and mind you, there was no one there because everyone was still debating how many pumpkin pies they would need because Uncle Joe was coming on Christmas Day and bring his new wife, and the family hadn't met her yet).... I cashed out, made pleasant small talk with the cashier about Galbani marinated mozzarella balls and went on my way. Cheers to 2026. read more

Costco is great and large quantities of some items or larger items that are at your grocery stores. They have seasonal freshly baked cinnamon rolls during Fall/Winter! So good that you crave them! They have great deals on vitamins and other things at a pharmacy. But again it's large quantities. If it's something you use often then the bulk size is worth purchasing. They have a nice clothing department too. You have to hunt for the larger sizes unfortunately but they have as large as 2XL for men. They have excellent frozen meat, meals, pizzas, etc. Soup. Salad etc... seafood is great too! You can get a day pass to check it out. No sharing membership unless the second person lives with you. Doesn't have to be a spouse. Glasses are great here and they have an onsite optometrist, just check if they take VSP or EyeMed etc. For your car they sell tires! Also Costco travel and other perks! Busy San Marcos location! The parking lot is always a mess, and getting in there too. The gas station isn't too bad at times but can be really busy. We hate going here because it's a busy location. But they have all the good stuff. It's just like any other Costco. The lines on a weekend is pretty long. The self check out is long too. Busy times, be prepare to wait. Found out the best time to go! It's a Tuesday around 3pm, there's nobody! The food court is inside, and it's a weird method now. You order on the computer then take the receipt and wait in another line to pick up your order. They no longer call your number. They just need one more Costco in North county on the 15, somewhere between RB and Escondido. read more

COSTCO @ San Marcos Who doesn't love Costco! I really enjoyed stopping by this location, parking was super easy to navigate and find. I went on a Tuesday, so there is plenty of room and not too many people. Sadly there wasn't many samples, but I highly recommend stopping by on the week day to avoid long lines. Great deals as always, I always recommend checking your costco app or online to know what's on sale! Service is great, quick to help you if needed, and selection is good. They were out of the coconut water the 9oz size, but still had the label there, so hopefully that restocks. Other than that, highly recommend stopping by, gas station is great as well, just 4.10 for regular! read more

Costco is a big box store. It's your standard run of the mill Costco and yes they do have a gas station so all your shopping needs will be met at this location. I am sure I went inside to get a few items but a careful later I don't know what happened. This location is neat the freewas so egress is an easy thing. I will say going through checkout here always seems a bit quicker than other locations, although they are just as busy. I don't go to this location often due to the difficulty of getting in and out of the parking lot, since there is really only one way in/one way out and it causes a lot of traffic. read more

Costco has been asking if I want my items boxed and putting them in the box (mostly). I'm happy with them taking care of this issue despite me not bringing it up to them anymore. The customer service is typcially excellent, but be prepared to wait in a long line if going to the tire center. Fyi: Watch out for the ATT employees. I've been lied to on 3 separate occasions when discussing their service and plans. If I didn't know any better, I would have fallen for it. Verizon was pushed out of Costco for similar reasons in the past and Costco should pay attention to AT&T's tactics. read more

I have literally called at least 5 times over the course of 2 weeks and no one has ever answered the phone. Impossible to speak to someone. There are multiple RACIST Hispanic women working at this location. It is absolutely ridiculous the way I blatantly see the switch from one customer to the next. The rudeness, and being accused of stealing was absurd!!! This has happened with the greeters, ignoring me, while I greet them and say thank you after scanning the card. This has happened after I paid for everything and for in line and was chased down because chicken was switched out by an employee, and then when she saw she was wrong, threw my receipt back at me. One of the busiest Costco's I've been too. Coming in the morning means that finding a spot is very competitive. Coming from Nordahl making a left onto center drive 2 lanes. The right lane leads to the gas station and the left leads to the parking area. The layout of where they place products is slightly confusing compared to other Costco's. Today, I experienced racial discrimination at Costco San Marcos location, and I feel compelled to speak up. I was shopping at Costco with my 1-year-old son when the cashier, Patricia, treated me in a way that was clearly different from how other customers were being treated. At checkout, she insisted that I place my cart on the left and carry my baby through the right-side lane alone, saying it was a "rule." I explained that my child is too young to sit in the cart alone and that in all my 10+ years of shopping at Costco, no other cashier has ever enforced such a rule--they have always allowed me to stay with my baby for safety reasons. Patricia refused to listen and said the other cashiers had been wrong all along. After I checked out, I asked several other moms if they had been told the same thing--they said no. I then spoke with a floor manager who confirmed that there is no such policy. It became very clear to me that I was being treated differently, and I strongly believe this was because I am Asian. This experience was not only frustrating, it was hurtful. Discrimination--especially against a parent with a young child--should have no place in a store like Costco. I am sharing this not only because I am upset, but because I hope Costco will take this incident seriously on how to treat all customers with respect, fairness, and equality--regardless of their race or background. Happy to be a Costco member again! Took a few years off. This location is really easy to access from the Escondido/San Marcos area. Has all the usual amenities gas station, food court and shopping. It's a little different now with the card scanners at the front. The great thing now is the digital membership card on their Costco app! Even if you forget your physical card no worries you'll still have access to get in. The staff was friendly at this location, very organized they kept the lines moving quickly. Self checkout line was so long but we it moved so fast we didn't even notice the wait. Selection here is always great. Costco does a really good job of sourcing new items. We plan on getting most of our furniture from here. Pricing is always reasonable especially when you use the coupon deals. Great store and excited to be back! read more

We have loved and always gone to Costco for price and quality. Unfortunately the quality has come under question. We bought a Samsung refrigerator freezer ($2,300+) less than three years ago. We have had techs out 3 times (Ice machine x2 and water dispenser x1) on Thanksgiving morning it stopped cooling. We are outside the 90 day warranty from Costco and we are outside the warranty from Samsung. Spoke to Jeff (manager) and he said it is between us and Samsung. My disappointment with Costco is not because they refuse to stand behind the products they sell beyond their stated warranty time, it is because they are currently still selling this same model, when is notorious for failing and breaking! I guess the take away is purchase the extended warranty and avoid Samsung products. read more

Returns are never an issue, and the associates are nothing but kind to us. I returned to Costco San Marcos Optical a few weeks ago to get my new prescription glasses (frames and lenses) with Wally. We got my wife's glasses last month and they were excellent. We have been getting our prescription glasses at Costco with Wally for a long time now and we have been extremely happy. Again, Wally was absolutely a pleasure to work with. As always, he was extremely nice, friendly, courteous, knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. He helped me pick two beautiful pairs of designer frames to order clear and sunglasses with my new prescription. I picked the 1.67 High Index progressive lenses. Wally patiently did all the needed measurements for progressive lenses and also all the insurance paper work. Wally was simply outstanding! I got both my glasses in two weeks and they are super nice and cool. One pair needed a little frame adjustment and Wally took care of it. This review is ONLY for the frozen Asian products. The Mila Soup Dumplings are filled with the cheapest, fatty, chewy parts of the pig. So inedible that I returned the bag. The Bibigo Steam Dumpllng contain decent quality meat, but not much more than a teaspoon of it tucked inside a fat sweet bun. Just weird stuff. The design of their gas station creates a huge bottleneck and it's an absolute nightmare almost every time you go; and 2. The food court has gone downhill. Not only did they stop the combo pizza, which was the best thing in their menu, they continue to push out sub quality food. not a fan of the chicken bake at all and don't even think about trying their new "calzone"...I don't even know if this thing can be called a calzone, it's absolutely disgusting and we could not finish it - imagine the worst hot pocket you've ever had...yeah, it's worse than that. read more

I used to come here to shop if I was in Escondido, they usually have a lot of good items, recently the quality went down for some reasons, I was at 2 other Costco the day before, and the seedless grapes were huge, but the one in San Marcos had all small, not sure why, if the delivery truck came down, they would hit here first, so they should get the good stocks as usual, hmmm. Lacking in customer service big time. Went in grabbed a number & while waiting I walked around & browsed glasses (also lacking in selection). While I am waiting this lady walks up and asked pricing on glasses. They proceed to answer her questions instead of asking her to take a number while everyone else waits. When they call my number I have glasses that I want to get the prescription filled so I ask her about my insurance give her my insurance information which is CSP and she says she cannot locate me, but I have to call VSP so I proceed to log into my VSP account the same way she told me she needed to log into my account, which was my name, date of birth and last four of Social Security, which she said she couldn't find me, but I proceeded to log on with the exact same information that she had meanwhile, she's helping other customers and I'm standing there waiting then I tell her that I was able to logon and she still tells me that I need to call VSP for authorization at that point I just asked for my glasses back nicely and decide I will go to Costco in Carmel Mountain Ranch. She didn't even offer to try to check my name and date of birth again in case she could've made a typo which I'm assuming it's probably what happens since I was able to login with my information that she needed. Lastly, she was not very friendly didn't smile once maybe she was having a bad day. read more

Apparently after ordering pizza on the kiosk and paying for it AND receiving a number on the receipt, you are supposed to go up to the whole pizza pickup window and check in with them before they will start making your pizza... I stood there patiently for 30 mins before someone told me this is what you're supposed to do... The hard working man at the window told me it says this on the kiosk somewhere but it is my opinion there needs to be a BIG SIGN by the pick up window with these instructions read more
