When i entered the store on Thurday and a girl with blond hair who i figured goes by the name of Audrey pointed at a customer who was dressed with long rainbow socks and pigtails with shorts and a tank top and instead of focusing on counting her register she calls another employee and starts pointing and making fun of the customer mind you i was right there when hearing that and i felt so disgusted that i just left and don't feel comfortable shopping there hope they do something about this. read more

I think this is one of only a couple bad reviews I've ever made but I wanted to share an experience I had on 12/9/24 around 12:30pm I needed to return a couple of clothing items I had purchased 2 months prior. On the receipt, it states "if the original purchase date is greater than 30 days, we will be happy to exchange the merchandise for you or ISSUE A GIFT CARD AT THE CURRENT SELLING PRICE." So I came in and said that I "wanted to make a return in exchange for a gift card". (I believe I used the wrong wording, but I'll get into this later) The person at the checkout (receipt says their name is Elena) said that they couldn't because the purchase was made more than 30 days ago. I told them what the receipt says. Ignoring what I said, they then repeat that I needed to make the exchange within the 30 days. It went back and forth until I showed them and read aloud on the receipt where it says I can exchange the items for a gift card. (I feel the need to include here that I wasn't being rude or short, I used to work in customer service so I totally get it.) Then finally they say, "I can give you in-store credit" and I say yes. As they are typing on the computer, they say, "Just to let you know, we are making an exception for you." (Huh???) Then they hand me a gift card. I'm not sure if it's because I used the wrong terms and said "return in exchange for a gift card" instead of just saying "exchange", or I should've used the term "store credit" instead of "gift card", but regardless the whole interaction made me feel weird and they made me feel like I was trying to do something wrong. I understand that they probably have to deal with horrible people all the time, but the way they were talking to me as if I was being difficult, when I was just trying to tell her what the receipt clearly states. I don't understand why I was "an exception". For anyone trying to make an exchange after 30 days of purchasing anything, be prepared. read more

This Hot Topic had the nicest customer service i have ever experienced. I wanted to give a special thanks to the employee Devin for going above and beyond! Yesterday I left my phone at Hot Topic and did not realize I had lost it until I was at Spencer's and it was very close to closing time so I freaked out a bit. Two minutes later I see a green-haired girl chasing me into Spencer's (a whole floor above Hot Topic) to hand deliver my phone back. Asked her name (Devin) so I can give the special recognition she deserves. I also asked how the heck she knew where to find us and she goes "well you had asked about where Spencer's was so we figured we'd try Spencer's first but we didn't want you stressing and retracing all your steps to find it" All of this with the kindest smile on her face even though it was only 10 minutes before closing time and most other stores I've been to the employees can be annoyed during closing. My receipt said my cashier at Hot Topic was Hunter (I believe w the pink hair) and she also did an amazing job with her customer service skills and it seemed to me to have been a joint effort for the two of them to go through the extra trouble of communicating and tracing me down all the way upstairs to safely return my phone from me! Both amazing employees with exceptional customer service, thank you to Hot Topic and both these stars!! Value these two employees, they are rare jewels in retail these days. And I hope they see this review because they both deserve to be recognized and prided in their work ethic and beautiful customer service. read more

Terrible customer service. Woman in short dirty blonde hair was so strict about Squishmallow mystery bags. If you shop for squish, you know there's holes at the bottom of the bags. Got there right at opening time to an empty store to have that lady tell me that I am not able to look or feel the bags. It's retail & a stuffed animal. Quit ruining people's day who just want a specific Squishmallow from a mystery bag. Left with nothing because she was being a jerk. If a customer gets joy to feel for a specific plush, don't deny them that luxury. What do you care which one I get if I'm ultimately spending my money in your store? NEVER shopping at this Hot topic again. read more

Shit service. Wearing a mask, & harassed 4x in 3 minutes that mask needs to be on nose, it fell once slightly when talking and the employee had a panic attack.. then it was literally on my nose & she came at me again that it needs to be on my nose.... WHICH IT WAS, IF SHE WASN'T HALF WAY ACROSS THE STORE SHE COULD SEE IT. But decided to complain instead.. good luck selling anything. read more

Went in in hopes of finding a Rick and Morty-themed car shade today. As I was browsing the relevant section, I was approached by a sales associate who promptly asked if he could help me find anything. He looked, and another associate joined in the search. Sadly, they sold out apparently very quickly (I was told as much by the associate at the Spencer's in the same mall). I was offered in-store order pick up, but since I don't live near the area I declined. I thought that would be the end of it but the two of them actually went out of their way to check the inventory of stores nearest to where I live. They offered to call and hold the item, but since it was still a bit of a drive for one item, they gave me the phone number of the store and item SKU in case I wanted to reserve one later. I've had about 10 years retail experience before my current job, and in my training I've always been told to greet and acknowledge every customer who enters the door. Well, I feel pretty damned acknowledged, and it was refreshing. I wish I got their names. . . Let's say, gentleman with glasses and girl with stunning graduated green hair. I LOVE going into Hot Topic! I love the stuff they sell there, but I really LOVE the employees!!! I've been to Hot Topic twice in the last 5ish days and both times the employees were so nice and helpful! I wish I could remember the cutie pies from the other day because they were great, but today's employees were just as awesome! I was helped by Sarah and Mikhayla :) They were super friendly and kind. Even though the store was packed with people, they were super cool and calm. They were really enthusiastic about the merch that my 12 year old daughter picked out and they made her feel really good about her interests. Thank you Sarah and Mikhayla! Keep up the good work! If you are into rock music type clothing, Hot Topic is the place to shop. They do sell other items: Pop novelty clothing and accessories, body piercing jewelry and even baby clothes. This store location is fairly small. When it does get busy it can be difficult to get navigate through the make shift aisles. The employees I have encountered are friendly, helpful, and down to earth. Hot Topic is one of those stores that is fun to walk into and just look around. read more

I came here yesterday because I needed to find some things to finish up for my costume for a party my friend and I are throwing, and well, from some odd reason, the Escondido Hot Topic didn't have things that the Carlsbad Hot Topic did have. I ventured into the store and was automatically greeted by some amazing sales clerks. I walked in and was greeted by a very nice girl. She told me about certain things that were happening in the store, and I said thank you and headed about my way. I looked around and found all the things that I needed to finish my costume. Hair dye and make-up all on display nicely and everything in sections so it was all so easy to find. When I was done, the lovely young lady (can't remember her name) opened up the jewelery case for the piercings an then told me about some of the specials that they were running on those. Finally, the gentleman who rang my stuff up (I think his name was Jerrad or Jared) was nice and smiley. I love great customer service like this. everyone should learn from hot topic! read more

Feel the angst! People that work here are cool and the selection is freaking sweet, maybe even a little overwhelming. Love that the associates here can rock their own look: piercings, tattoos, dyed hair. They're also nice as heck.They engage with you and offer their help and if you say you're "good" they'll back off and let you do your own thing. For a group of people that the rest of society might brush off for how they look, these folks are far from substandard! Now I'm not gothic, nor grungy, nor rebellious against my overbearing mom and dad that don't understand me, but that's okay because this store has something for everyone! I primarily make my way in for a new band t shirt every once in a while (Sublime shirts are my drug!) Pop culture explosion! (I'm talking to you, fans of Disney's Frozen)! I actually came in to exchange some shirts my husband bought me (in the wrong size) and wound of leaving with a Little Mermaid swimsuit! They have so much stock, it's kind of hard to shop sometimes. I mean a lot of things you can't even reach without some assistance from an employee -unless you're unreasonably tall. Sales and promotions are awesome. Why I only just recently started frequenting this store still baffles me. Not only do they have a huge selection of merchandise for every fandom--so dangerous for a Disney geek like me who also loves Bob's Burgers and Funko Pops--but the customer service is always on point. Hot Topic is a great local shop to go to for all your gothic/punk/emo style needs. The have a range of earing/tongue ring/guages/nose rings up for buy. Clothing varity also like corsets, skirts, shirts pants jackets, hats, socks, under garmets ect, all of your shoping needs. For the woman [[and the occational guy]] jewlery and toys, blankets, collectible items and music. Backpacks and school supplies or just supplies for writing in/with. It is a great place to go to for almost any and every need. read more

I didn't have the best experience. I understand that staff are required to notify customers of any specials that they have going on and they may check up on you from time to time but it really started to feel as though I was being followed. I couldn't turn a single corner without being told about some sale or asked how I was doing. It didn't seem like they were actually interested in helping me either. It seemed like they thought I might try to steal something. I work in retail and I know how people behave around customers who might steal. I gave up trying to shop and just decided to check out. The guy snatched my stuff out of my hand when I told them I was ready and stomped towards the kiosk where I was told to pay. I really don't know what I did to give them the impression that I might be a thief or why they were so rude to me in general. I've been shopping at hot topic for years and most of my experiences have been positive so this really sucked. read more

Hot Topic has 3.00 stickers, 20.00 shirts and 15.00 cds. If you're fine with spending that, then by all means go ahead. The HT cards are pointless, as I have been collecting "points" for 2 years now and nothing has happened. The sales they have are just clearing the shirts noone will EVER buy for 5.00 off. The associates are friendly, and the selection is typically wide - - if your music taste is Black Veil Brides or bands like it. Their "digital catalogs" contain a wide variety of punk and pop-punk clothing, however the store has barely a selection for that kind of music, however has 7 BVB Shirts and 32342 SWS Shirts. Anywoo I usually don't buy any thing when I go here, but it is a fun store to walk around in and enjoy the music of the employees choice. read more

I usually enjoy Hot Topic merch and I've been purchasing from them since 2004. Their overall stock is pretty decent, but I've been ignored by staff members when I'm at the register on two separate occasions. I turned around and walked out the first time, the second time I stood my ground and waited to be helped, although they tried ringing someone else up before me. I probably won't be shopping at this one anymore. At least I won't be ignored if I purchase online. read more

I just wanted to commend the Hot Topic staff at the The Shoppes at Carlsbad. Stephanie and Hope are THE BEST! They are always so gracious and helpful with my son and daughter and I! They are fun and cheerful and friendly AND we love shopping there! We frequent the store once a month (at least) and I noticed how they greet every customer as soon as they walk in no matter what it is that they are busy with. Ive been in the store during busy times and they treat everyone like they are special. I don't ever mind waiting. I especially like how they acknowledge people waiting in line to check out. They are always so fast and efficient with a genuine friendly attitude. I always know what the latest deals are as soon as they greet us. Hope and Stephanie are ALWAYS so friendly and nice to my kids and they compliment them on their choices which makes my kids feel special. I wish I was treated with this much customer care at every store I shopped at! These ladies are great and I hope they are acknowledged for their hard work and absolutely ROCKIN customer service! read more
