Worst customer service experience ever. I was hanging out with my friend at the mall earlier this Friday afternoon, and my friend wanted to go into this gamestop location to check for something. They wanted to buy a DS/3DS game. They ask the cashier if they could please buy a specific game, and then the cashier starts making unnecessary comments or "jokes" amongst how my friend has to "demand" for the game. We found it so offputting because.. it's basic manners to say please and thank you to anyone of service at any establishment. He starts going off about how I should "demand for my friend" and help them out to be more demanding? Something amongst those lines. Maybe the cashier was joking around but he was honestly doing too much. It seemed like he was putting my friend down for his own laughs. What's funny about this? He then kept making small talk with us when my friend clearly just wanted to pay and leave. We were visibly uncomfortable and we weren't engaging that much in the conversation, but he proceeded to keep pushing his "jokes". He started asking what I was doing with my friend at this store, and I responded that I just am. My friend wanted to check the store out. And he goes off talking about how he "gets it" and that he feels like he to be there for his friend later on after clocking out, and that he didn't want to go. It irritated me because it is absolutely none of his business to be asking about customers and completely unprofessional especially in a work setting. It's understandable to exchange words then and there for conversation and to give customers a satisfying and friendly experience at stores, but this is genuinely made us uncomfortable. It almost took forever to only buy a singular $5 3DS/DS game. When my friend finally is able to pay, the cashier probably thought it would be hilarious, and hands the game to me rather than to my friend, the actual customer who is purchasing the game. The conversation ends with more unnecessary jokes about us coming back to this store... Let's just leave it us never returning. Went in to trade a PS5 slim and PlayStation classic mini. Female associate was helping me out but she wasn't experienced enough in checking the PS5 slim with a disc drive. The lead or manager who has long hair and big build who also isn't knowledgeable came to help. His tone has an attitude. He said the PS5 slim disc won't work. I was watching the female worker load the system and there was a message I couldn't see fast enough and I told him the disc drive needs to be registered. He said they won't accept it because whatever I did to the disc drive. Then he tried the PlayStation classic mini and the system only comes with a usb wire and does not include an adapter as shown on the box. He cannot take it in since they don't have a spare adapter. So I went to another GameStop and the worker there had no problem with the ps5 disc drive. It needed to be registered by being online and then restarted. Went in looking for a gift for a friend. When I walked to the checkout counter, a manager I'm assuming (did not get his name but he was a late 40s-50 white guy with longish hair and a grey beard and glasses) was verbally berating one of the workers (younger girl with black hair) about pushing policies. He was yelling to her about these policies in an aggressive tone while I was waiting for them to notice me and ring me up, mind you there's customers around while this manager is rudely talking to his worker. Once they notice me, the guy greets me with a "you need something buddy" in the same rude tone. I said I was trying to buy my one item. While they're ringing me up, I had to repeat my membership phone number 3 times, and once they finally entered it correctly, the manager says loudly "you're pretty soft spoken!" Sure yeah, then they explain my membership is expired, I ask if it can be paid with the card on file, and they say no I would have to rebuy it today to get my 8$ off at purchase with the points on file. I said no it's fine not today, which the manager follows by saying "he said nah it's fine" in a mocking tone to the other worker. Is this really what customer service is nowadays? I mean this guy has the nerve to be openly mocking and rude to his staff as well as the people coming into the business. I would seriously look into this guy's behavior because it looks like a hostile work environment from my perspective. I'm even more frustrated now after seeing how everything played out. When I first came in to trade my OLED Switch, the dock was missing the backplate. I was told that if I brought back the HDMI cable and strap, they would accept it. Before the trade was even processed, the employee named Andy started telling me a random story about another customer who came in with a broken SD card slot and how they couldn't take that. It had nothing to do with my situation and felt like he was already trying to justify lowering the value, even though the system worked fine and I was bringing back what they asked for. I followed exactly what they told me and came back with the accessories. They accepted the trade and gave me $186. But after I mentioned that I also had another Switch to trade in, Andy suddenly took $60 off the value for the missing backplate after the trade had already been processed. That was never mentioned before and felt completely unfair. Then when I traded in my older Switch (V1), they dropped the value to only $48 because it was missing the HDMI and charger. But I had already included the dock and Joy-Con strap. No one told me that missing those two items would remove the $125 promo value entirely. If I had known that, I would have made a different decision. They didn't even explain it. They just processed it as defective and moved on without saying a word. This whole experience felt VERY shady. It's like they tell you one thing and then change the deal after they already have your stuff. I really regret doing my trade-ins here. Be very careful. Still, I do enjoy a new one here and there. This location was once much smaller, but they have now expanded and are a bit on the bigger side. Despite it being bigger, there is still a ton of people here and you might find yourself having a hard time moving around. They don't have many employees so forget about being helped while you're looking around. Also, when you do buy something they really push you to pre-order another game. I'm truly tired of having to hear the whole pre-order monologue every single time I come here. I'd prefer it if they turned the complete opposite direction of me and talked to the wall. Ever since GameCrazy went out of business, I've had to come here a bit more lately. I even signed up for an Edge Card. One of the cool things they do once in a blue moon is they have trade-in deals where you get up to 50% more for your trade. Usually a trade would run you about 25% to 40% of the original new price (if the game is new enough), so adding another 25%-50% usually gives you some value. On top of that, you can use the Edge Card (which is now the Power Up Rewards Card) to buy things off their website. You couldn't buy things online at GameCrazy so it really helps. Also, the original manager from the Capitol Square GameCrazy is now a manager at this GameStop, so I feel quite at home. Anyway, all the reviews before mine are pretty much obsolete. This location has expanded ridiculously. They took over whatever store was to their left, and now they have their own mall entrance right across from Century Theaters. I don't know why it was done, but I'm not complaining. Maybe it's because having their own entrance allows them to take part in midnight releases that prior to this expansion have never took place? Now with its size, it's become a lot more spacious and organized. Going here used to be a drag because it was so cluttered and full of people, and now I don't have to feel so claustrophobic. They also make a really valid attempt at keeping all their games in alphabetical order, so the place is shoppable (if you're stupid enough to buy games at full price when they aren't that great). Also, I've bought new released around three times here (that isn't that much, but honestly, Amazon is a whole lot cheaper) and it looks like they don't gut their games anymore. The location of the store itself is convenient as you can go inside, buy a game and leave quickly as it is one of the closer stores to the parking lot. Although, I usually only go to this location on weekdays, everything is laid out nicely and it helps make things easier if you k ow what you are buying beforehand to avoid the clumps of people just browsing or lining for the VR display. The staff in general is fairly nice and if you are a gamer, the environment will be very comfortable as the staff can generally cater to your needs. I am not a fan of their trade in policy, but if you are a PRO member (I am), there's more value when trading games. I'm not a gamer but I do play games on my phone occasionally. It's also because I have a 7 year old boy who until now didn't have any kind of game consoles. He plays when he's at a friend's house. No luck but advised to just keep checking in as they would only get few units at a time. They won't even allow us to pre order. My son saved almost enough money for this console. We were passing by Game Stop inside Great Mall and he wanted to go inside. He asked, and lo and behold, they have it and I had to go inside and talk to the cashier about the details. I was in shocked because we didn't plan on finding this today. I had to step back, think about it and then ordered it. It would now be a part of my son's birthday gift since it's coming two weeks before his birthday. He saved $326 so far and I have to fill in the rest and a one year wait. They have two bundles available. The first one was $499 with several games and accessories included. The one we purchased was $399 with accessories and one new game called "Arms". I looked up this game of course and if it's purchased separately, it's $59.99 and the accessories cost a lot more. So it's a deal except I'd prefer Zelda instead. It's included with the first bundle. He would want to play Minecraft with it so we will have to purchase it separately for $30 as a download online. I was worried about the 32 gig and have to download the Minecraft. The staff assured me that was plenty of space because Minecraft is small, about 1 gig. And the other cashier said she downloaded about 10 games to her own Nintendo Switch already. I purchased a protection plan for two years for $29.99. It's cheaper than the other store which is $49.99 for the same console. I looked up all the details before purchasing. I don't like to purchase this usually but it's cheap and GameStop said they'll replace whatever goes wrong with it. The Switch's controller usually goes bad. The staff at this store was friendly, attentive and patient. I love that they talk to my son too. Every time we encounter staff that talk to kids and make them part of the conversation, it makes me feel good. GameStop has two types of membership. One for $14.99/year with a whole lot of benefits. I don't see myself going back to this store a lot to be worth it but I did sign up for the basic/free one that turns every dollar spent into points. I may have turned over a new leaf for GameStop! Going into it, wasn't really a fan of GameStop/Electronics Boutique in general as I felt the customer service hasn't been there, let alone the prices for the game were cheaper elsewhere. Made the decision to trade in a couple consoles to upgrade to the one X. Decided to take the hit and bring it into GameStop and take what I can get for it rather than going the craigslist route or letting it sit and lose value. Had several questions and concerns prior, so I decided to call into the store. I was greeted by Tyler, who was exceptional over the phone. Answered my many questions and left no concerns after our chat. Brought the consoles in and requested for Tyler. He made the process very easy as he immediately got started testing the consoles and inspecting the games, while still carrying a great conversation in the process. He is very knowledgeable with electronics and shows a great passion for what he does. I appreciated his honesty during his assessment of my trade-ins and welcomed his suggestions. Once it was all said and done, we added my trade ins up and I was able to walk out a happy man with the One X. Tyler, thanks again for your assistance and expertise!
