Service here was good, the guys helping me out were really patient with me as I was going back and forth deciding which games I wanted to get and would nicely let me look at games I was interested at in the locked cases for as long as I wanted. In terms of selection I think they have a good selection on the retro and modern games and consoles which made me spend even more time in the shop! They also have other things like pokemon sealed products and single cards which I assume they are selling at market price and toys like Funko pops and figurines. Came to look for some vintage games for a collector friend in Denmark and for a Wii Motion Plus controller for the kids. It's located in a small strip mall I've passed by in Milpitas and glad we stopped by. It was amazing to see such a large crowd of people coming in and out, it just made me feel like people still appreciate physical hardware. This feeling was acknowledged when I saw a row of CRT TVs for sale and how much better the games looked on their intended non-held hardware. They have a little bit of everything retro and have games ranging from loose to in box, it was cool seeing so many games I grew up with. The most nostalgic systems were the NES and SNES for me. Prices were not and and barely above market though my kids did notice the Pokemon stuff was marked very high. Staff was great and asked me for my requests and immediately looked it up. Sure, they did have that, but most of the things they had were actually retro consoles, games, accessories, and toys. They had some games I've been meaning to get. I was especially impressed that they had already replaced the internal clock battery--a huge plus since I'm planning to play Seaman! I also walked out with Phantasy Star and UFC. I went on journey with this store and the service and understanding by one worker (Shams, as stated on my receipt) was greatly appreciated. I was looking for a Playstation 1 and a couple of games. Asked if they had Final Fantasy VII and to my surprise they did! Purchased a PS1, Final Fantasy VII and VIII, a NES controller, and Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES. Buying a console in store, they offer a 5-10% discount on games you buy as well. Went home to try them out and had some problems with Final Fantasy VII, and Super Mario Bros 3, and the NEE controller. I returned to the store the next day and brought up the issues. The controller and Mario game was swapped out with another they had in-store. Quick, easy, no problem. When it came to Final Fantasy VII, I brought up the issues of the game not loading after the Playstation 1 boot screen. Brought up the very scratched disc. He offered to call another store (his brother's store iirc) and offered a free disc resurfacing. I gladly took the offer and drove to the store, GameTime Hobby. They resurfaced it for no cost and it was quick. The disc looked brand new. I went to play it and it loaded into the game but I had a new problem. The very first encounter, the battle scene would not load at all. I returned to Retro Rewind the same evening, stated the problem, we tested it in-store and the problem persisted. I ended up refunding the game. Shams was super apologetic about the problems. I had no problem with it whatsoever understanding retro games has its problems with age and degradation. After all that, I appreciated the service and the lengths Retro Rewind, mostly Shams, went through to get the game I purchased to work properly despite it not working in the end. read more

Was looking for a few N64 games and was recommended to check this place out. Originally we couldn't tell if the store was opened or not as it was very empty out front (door opened so we good!). This is a very well organized place that's kept very clean; it's very clear what's what laid out. There was only one person wandering the store when we went and one guy behind the counter on the phone. I didn't think much of that, but when we inquired about a few N64 games in the counter display case - he immediately put the phone down without even saying 'give me a second'. I honestly found that refreshing and appreciated that service was instant despite him doing something else. Prices of the games were on par to what we've seen online, no complaints there. No refunds, but store credit exchange for 7 days after purchase if there's an issue. Final Thoughts: It's a good place to check out for nostalgic older games and such. read more

I used to come here a lot back when the old owners ran it and loved it. I definitely won't be coming back here again though. The workers are condescending, extremely rude, and don't seem to even want to do business with customers unless you're purchasing the highest priced items they have. They do trade ins, but if you want to trade something for more valuable items, they basically won't allow you to even if you're trading in high value stuff to them as well lol. What kind of business does that? Their trade in value is a joke too. They say they offer "competitive pricing" yet offer me less than half of what my stuff was worth. Retro Rewind sells games from previous console generations. I like how they also deal with ones from the current generation, but you'll find most old games. When I got inside, the games are properly organized by console as well as the gaming consoles. Some old games are pricey and some are reasonable. Like the Mario & Sonic Olympics Wii games are over $20 as if you need to pay extra for super nostalgia. There are rarely any GameCube games and they are kinda hard to find. Also, I see that there are a pile of products laying on the floor. It seems that they are trying to place them to proper places. I think that area is suppose to be like a place to play games? I looked over accessories of the consoles at the left side of the store, but there are rarely any of them. I guess that the store is too small to display them at the front. So maybe ask the staff if they have any specific ones from the backroom. Good thing that they sell GameCube memory cards, and up to 16MB or 64MB?? Nowadays game storage cards are at 500GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Goes to show how much technology has evolved. I haven't bought anything there yet since I am not interested in buying games at the moment, but my sister bought GameCube and Super Smash Bros Melee from this store. I wasn't really impressed with my experience with the new owner of this retro game store. He acted as if he owned this store since the pandemic started when I asked him about the layout of the store being different compared to when I first came here a few years ago. He claimed that the layout has always been the same. After reading the past reviews, it seems like the store changed ownership sometime last summer, so he basically lied. I saw the past photos from a few years ago; the layout definitely changed. When I called him about the price of a certain game, he was hard to understand over the phone, and when I arrived at the store, he was still hard to understand in person since he mumbles sometimes. These experiences already left a bad impression on me. And then when I tried to let him about the pricing that I saw compared to other stores, corporate- or locally-owned, he kept interrupting me and acted as if I was wrong about what I was saying. But I wouldn't be wrong if he just let me finish explaining what I was trying to tell him. I found that to be a bad sign of customer service. He honestly didn't seem all that friendly, so I won't be coming back. The old owner and employees were a lot nicer, to be honest. read more

They also are not a shady business they are up front and honest, I came here to trade in my console after calling them yesterday, they didn't waste my time everything straight up and clear, gotta take a break from gaming due to a new kid but I'll be back when I have time again. This place was pretty cool and the worker was really friendly. When I needed to trade in some old sports games such as Madden or FIFA, Shams didn't lowball me at all whatsoever. He gave me the option of giving me $6 cash or $15 store credit. I took the second option because it had more value. The store had a huge selection of any games you need. There weren't any games that interested me at the moment so he gave me a receipt to keep note of the in-store credit for future use. 3rd time back and they've redecorated the entire store and it's a lot more clean and organized! I wanted to get back into my old time favorite games and was in search for either Rock Band, Guitar Hero, or DJ Hero. After some researching, I decided to go the route of also purchasing a Wii so that I could play DJ Hero again... I was always a PlayStation guy, but unfortunately there wasn't a mix of a PS2 system and DJ Hero Turntable set that I was interested in. An issue came up with one of the turn table controllers that I bought and the owner was nice enough to accommodate the concern and I left very satisfied. It could get pretty busy in the store with customers and their questions, so just make sure you're not in a rush and know what you're looking for. The owner will answer all of your questions once it's your turn. Plus+ - I was also able to leave with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles! Other things to note - Don't be intimidated by their prices. It seems like some or most prices are not really up to date and the owner is kind enough to let you know if that's the price or is willing to go lower. - I've read some past reviews for this place with concerns that Retro Rewind checks prices from other competitors to either sell you the item at or a little over marketplace value. In return, you get a good prestige working item in your hands without the need to pay online fees and wait for your item. Sometimes paying a little more and supporting a local business to stay up and running for the community is how it should roll. But no way in hell do I think their price gouging their items to rip customers off. Awesome place to browse for your old time favorites and will definitely check back here first if I decide to bring a game back up from the past to play in 2023! read more
