I am amazed reading all the negative reviews of this location, citing bad customer service. I have never had a bad experience here. I've been coming in here for years and never had a problem. I really enjoy coming in here, and no trip to Valley River Center is complete without a stop into Game Stop. Employees in here are fantastic. They are always helpful and typically check to see if I need anything as I'm looking around. Sometimes when they are super busy, I'll have to go hunt one down. But obviously when they are busy, I can be patient. So I'll tell them when they are done with whatever they are currently doing for another customer, I have questions, so come find me in the store. Which they have no problem doing. You just need to tell them that you need something, so they are aware. They are always more than willing to help me find whatever I need, answer any questions, which I typically have, especially when I come in here on my own without my husband. The store is tiny, and can easily feel cramped if there are a lot of people in here. They have a big product selection, I love that they sell used games, which are in good condition. I have never had a problem with a used game I've bought here. I know they always ask you if you want to buy a warranty, which is like $3. It isn't a bad deal, but I've never needed it, so I rarely buy it, unless I buy games for my nephew. For a 7 year old, I think the warranty is actually a great idea. They don't carry obscure or old system games. It's mostly for newer consoles, Xbox360, Xbox One, PS4, the newest DS, ect. It's not like you'll find original Game Boy games or anything like that here. If that's what you're looking for, go to a used game store that is local, not a corporate store. I've only bought a warranty on a game once, and it was simply because it was a gift for my 7 year old nephew. Which pretty much means he can destroy it and still return it and have it replaced. They put some sort of sticker or something on the case, and explained it to me. The important thing was I didn't have to worry about a receipt for my sister in-law, if she needed to return it for my nephew, and she could return it in Salem, where she lives. Which isn't a problem. Obviously they have a good return policy, being anything can be returned to any Game Stop store, no matter the location. Which makes buying gifts with the warranty a great thing. I dislike that they answer the phone while they are talking to you, but with only a couple employees, they do have to multi-task. It's annoying, but they are just trying to do business, and will ask the customer on the phone to hold because they are with customers. So it's not like they get distracted by the phone. Will I return? Absolutely! I have never had a problem in the store. Even when they are busy, I never have to wait long to have someone help me, and they are always super friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I went to GameStop in valley river mall in Eugene to sell my Xbox and some games tonight and the way I was treated by the person working was very uncalled for he was really rude I have been doing business with them for the last 30 years always bought game systems lots of games I've spent a lot of money I have always been happy with them but I took my system in tonight and I needed a controller so was gonna buy a controller there and just sell the system along with a few games and he told me I couldn't sell it because I would owe him 3 dollars and so I said why is that I sold my other one just not even 2 weeks ago and got almost 200 and he said system was defective which it wasn't I tested it out before going there I said well why is it defective he wouldn't even respond to my questions he was short with me I just don't understand why such attitude I just asked simple questions what bothers me most is that he treated me that way it isn't about the system as much as it was shock for how I was treated I walked in with great attitude I was never unkind just wanted to know why clearly he didn't like his job but I wil never buy or sell games to the valley river center GameStop again because of it I also won't be referring friends and family there not after the total disrespect tonight . read more

Placed an order online to pick up a game in-store. Somehow, despite double checking at every step, the pickup was placed to the wrong store. Maybe it was my mistake, maybe it was website error? Who knows. Didn't think it'd be a big deal. Either way, I went to the wrong store and just purchased the game instead after realizing my order wasn't there, then called this one to cancel the pickup. First, the assistant manager had no idea how long I had to pick up the order before it would automatically cancel, which was my initial thought for getting a refund. Then, when I asked about cancelling it so I didn't have to wait, I was told he couldn't "for your protection". In case someone called and pretended to be me to cancel a game purchase and get money credited back to my account? What? How devious! When I pointed out it was kind of dumb nothing could be done and then paused to think for a moment, the assistant manager took that as a quick opportunity to hang up on me. I called back for clarification on what I needed to be in store for and he just said it's policy. He made no attempt to help me. He made no attempt to tell me how soon the order would auto cancel. Just generally had no interest in helping me. GameStop is overpriced and rarely has sufficient stock. Good service was the last thing they had going for them and now it looks like that's turning into a dumpster fire too. What a shame. read more

This place is pretty average. Most of the employees are either really excited to talk about video games and offer you every detail about options for games or they have zero interest in video games. More often than not I get the ones that are excited to talk about video games. I've had my share of trade-ins and their trade-in value is pretty low. I stopped taking games there 5-6 years ago because the value was so awful. About 10% of the selling price of the game. I get it -- they have a lot of that copy. But don't buy it for $2.50 when you sell it on the shelf for $25. My most recent experience wasn't the best. I was looking for the accessory device that plays PSP games. They are new on Amazon for about $45. I asked if Gamestop happened to have one and I showed them the ad from Amazon. Wasn't expecting a price match, but was hoping maybe they had one on the shelf so I didn't have to wait to order one. They checked and didn't stock one but could order one. I would be charged shipping of some kind, but they would lower the price to $30 for the device so including the shipping, I would come in a few bucks less than Amazon. Would take a week either way, so I opted to help out the local business. When I got the part (it was shipped to me), it was USED, not NEW like the one on Amazon. It already had some games on it (most were freebies from PS+ that I already had on my PS3 or PS4). I formatted the entire thing for the previous owner's protection and got the device up and running. It is a little shaky. It has to have the HDMI cord in it very specifically or it won't display a picture. It works, but it sure as hell is finicky. The return policy on used products is 7 days. I didn't even open mine after I got it for 5 days (because it took a week and a half instead of a week so I didn't have time to play it right away). I would have had to swing on during one of the two remaining days to deal with it. Also, they couldn't get me another for another week or more. So all in all, this device works -- mostly. It is about on par for the course for this location. Sometimes you luck out, sometimes you don't. I stop in from time to time, but I will buy games on-line or go to Video Game HQ. I would check them out as a last resort for local purchases personally. read more

Granddaughter bought a $25.00 twitch card. Got home and wouldn't take code. Called the store cashier gave us another number to call for the card. Got that number and twitch person couldn't find the number to call to get walked through how to fix it. I called Eugene store again. Manager said nope can't take back since number has been scratched off. Well how the hell do you validate it if you don't scratch it off? He said unable to verify if its been validated. HMMM..... Poor business... No more from us...... We even had the receipt. Seems they could have tried to validate it but he did nothing. Thanks GUYs... read more

My latest and probably last experience started with buying a game from gamestop while I was on my honeymoon in Maui, HI. People there were fantastic! Sadly when I returned one of the games I bought was fairly scratched, and unreadable by my new Xbox One. I called up this location since its close to me and asked if I could possibly just swap it out for a working copy. I was treated like I had asked some unreasonable request but I got a rude yes. So I popped in there later that day-I was greeted very rudely, like the guy hated every second of being there. I kindly explained I had called earlier and was told I could swap the disc. Without even acknowleging what I said he proceeded to look at the disc, grab another, and put it in the case, and slid it back to me. Just making sure I didnt need to anything, I just asked if there was anything I needed to sign as a swap, I was given a prompt and rude "No" and he literally turned away from me. I've done retail for many years, and I get people having a bad day. But this was beyond rude, in no way insprired me to ever shop there again. If you're in the Springfield/Eugene area, places like Video Game Headquarters are much nicer, much better in prices and trade value, and to top it off local-go spend your money where they value you. read more

I February I went in to purchase a refurbished Xbox 360. I was told that one would be sent down from Corvallis and I could come by and pick it up in a week at most. It has been three. I called after the first week and was told that it had not come in yet. I waited another week.Called in and nothing. Okay. I called in a few days ago and was told that they would have it in a few days. I called back today and found that the order was placed three days ago, for something I did not want (Pre-owned). The person who I have been dealing with has has had an attitude and was not helpful. The original person that helped me in the store was very kind and gracious, making sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. Too bad her order was never placed and I never got to deal with her again. GameStop is one of those video game stores that's like the McDonalds of video games. Everyone hears about it and a lot of people just go there because they didn't know there were authentic ones to go to. All they ever seem to have is games that just came out for whatever was a current trend. Every time I go in there I'm immediately bored and have never found anything I would want to buy (at that price). Other game stores have all that stuff PLUS all kinds of other games. Game Stop will only have what you're looking for if you only play games that are currently trending and new. And they charge more for those same trending games than normal game stores (like Video Game Headquarters or Big City games or CD Game Exchange) do. Also, if you're wanting to sell or trade in your games, DEFINITELY go to one of the local game stores and not GameStop. They don't pay well and that's an understatement. read more

This stores customer service, or lack there of is a joke. My hubby bought me the new Xbox one 500GB for Christmas. The other day it stopped reading discs and the home button on my controller stopped working. We called the store to see what could be done. While explaining the issue, I realized the lady wasn't listening. I asked her to repeat what I had just asked and she replied "ma'am, I don't want to argue". I asked her again, please repeat what I just asked you, to which she replied "I wasn't listening". Maybe this store would get better reviews if anyone working there actually tried to be helpful. Not suprised at the low ratings at this location about 2 stars is what they deserve. Poor customer service inattentive staff, and low knowledge base about games outside of the three main brands (Playstation, X-box, Nintendo). This location is in the mall so forget about a "quick trip" to the game store and avoid going here at all on the weekend unless you like to be packed into a tiny store packed full of teenagers and ignored by a rude staff. 2 stars is generous. They have a lot of work to do to make this location customer friendly. read more

I don't know why Gamestop gets such a hard wrap. They are always understaffed so you know what you are getting into, but the deals they provide are pretty undeniable. When you catch them and they aren't busy, they always treat you well. I will give GameStop five stars. The store is at Valley River Mall in Eugene Oregon. GameStop sells used games. I try to go there every month. I like how they sell all games, it is close, and has good game deals They have many games for every systems. GameStop has a game consoles for sale. It is close and easy to get to. It is fast to get games. The game deals can get you a jaw dropping deals. You can get a console for $150 or less. I would like more games at GameStop.
